- 1981 Invader OMC 2.4 with OMC 400 Stinger Sterndrive, Impeller replacement. Cable shift, out to disconnect, and don't forget to Unbolt retainer clip for Cable before trying to remove out drive.
why no video on removing it from the boat?
The champher on the clear ring faces up lightly coated with grease.
Anyone working on these do yourself a favor and invest in a manual. That orange silicone tells me someone’s been there before. Ring was upside down and sealant required is permatex 2. Not silicone. If not sealed properly it can draw in exhaust gases causing overheating.

Thanks for posting.
Thank you for posting, been putting off doing this service myself. Do you have a video of the removal or replacement of the leg itself, or is that pretty self explanatory?
I do have a video of me removing the leg. Everything is pretty self-explanatory except for the gear linkage for forward and reverse. It’s a little tricky, but I have a video in my profile somewhere showing that as I did the impeller.
Does the unit need to be removed from the boat. That shifter cable has me worried.
@@65wldstln yes the leg needs to be removed, shifter cable for a the worst part but easy once you understand how it works.
Thank you!
How did you get the shift cable removed from the lower unit
I never had to take the cable out of lower housing sorry
How did you pull the cable out? Did you use pliers?
There is a u clip and a bolt holding it in . Used my hands after you in bolt it.
You can try pliers if it is heavily siliconed , but line pulled through with my hands
Get yourself a helper when doing that cable.that cable is expensive, and has to be carefully put back in.
Is the 800 Stringer the same
Im not 100% but most are similar
It's pretty similar
