The bare steel will rust for sure. The first time this thing goes through a rain storm or a high pressure car wash, water will leak in and get trapped. All those 1/8 in holes with raw edges on the inside won't help either. Eventually as the rust progresses it will expand between the unit body frame and fiberglass layer causing what is known as rust jacking. This will push the fiberglass away causing cracks in the blended edge where Bondo was used. Eventually the expanding rust will cause gaps and poor fit. This car may be OK for a few years as it's in a warm, dry climate. But the prep shown here is not correct and won't hold up in the long term.
Good thing we don’t get rain here in Az nor will this car be going through any car washes. However the fenders will be completely sealed off which won’t allow any moisture to get in. However you are correct only time will tell but this body kit will probably get damaged from rally driving before any panels fall off.
I've seen other wide body applications where there's been cut outs in the quarters for this. You could spray something after the fact. I've also seen panel bond to paint. No clue if that's a good idea or not.
Bucky Lasek is pro skater, then became a rally cross driver for Subaru. He’s also got a UA-cam channel, it’s good. He built a wide body impreza coupe with an Sti swap and it’s insane.
Cool build, My question is about how your gluing on the rear fenders onto bare metal. Is there a possibility of moisture getting in between the two panels and causing rust issues? Or are you not bothered because of the dry climate you live in? I would have thought a coat of paint would help.
Awesome, am after a 2 door Impreza RS myself now to do a B22 build, so will be watching the whole series. Love the care taken when applying the panels ...
Of all the content that I love from your channel, the subaru GC8 project right now is what makes my days lol. Awesome stuff bro. I am glad that the universe is making this happen in your life.
If you are out west, this will work, the panel bond if spreadout over your bare metal it will last longer. Running a coat of metal etching primer, or epoxy on your bare metal areas, would have been the ideal way to do the quarter panels.
OKay is Randall up for hire or is he your exclusive guy? Just purchased a retired GC8 rallycar that needs some love and I don't trust anyone, but after watching this, Randall is the man.
Definitely motivated from watching your videos, got my st coilovers for my avant and have to drop the subframe in order to get the old springs out, saving my self $1000 by doing it myself
Hey Cam. I’m not going to wide body my 19 WRX mainly for easier daily use. So I just picked up a 18 STI with no motor. I’m doing a ChargeSpeed wide body kit on the 18 STI and I’m curious about 1 thing with the panel bond. The kit will be here around June 23-24. Before I start grinding, I see you just ground down and cleaned your metal contact points. Should that metal be treated before bonded for rust inhibition? I live on the East Coast. We can have a wet and snowy climate. I’m a bit concerned with any bare metal.
So to me this is more 22b build then gc8 sti. Which idk what ur going for cause I just found this vid. But what is the difference body wise with a RS coupe and Impreza coupe vs the gc8 sti. Not the 22b.
I'm loving the build and videos im looking to get into a subaru but need some advice from some subaru people im looking at a 2004 subaru impreza just had jdm motor swapped in 50k miles New trans, exeddy clutch, throw out bearings, fly wheel bearing, tial 44mm external wastegate, 1050cc injectors on e85 and new gaskets all around. Dude is selling cheap cause he has 2 other subarus and is truck driver he also told me needs new front bumper flog light and re tune since motor swap. Does is sound like a good buy? I don't want it to sound to good to be true ya know
Isn't there the possibility of rust underneath the fiber, where the paint was grinded and the metal was left "raw"? That has to be 100% sealed, I think that's almost impossible.
Make sure you still do that collab with Bucky when it's finally done :P
I literally started watching you when I watched the blow off valve install on the ST and now I’m addicted to your videos and learn allot from you
Is there any concern about rust forming where the metal was stripped bare for the panel adhesive?
I don't believe it should be a problem as the adhesive should act a a pretty solid barrier from the elements. But only time will tell 🤔

Bro! Those pins saved my life 😂 THANK YOU
Holy shit Bucky is casually helping mock up the wing LOL
Can we all agree that Randal is a blessing!
Dude I can’t believe Bucky brought you the wing! That’s so badass!
who is Bucky?
Seriously?
@@andrewog300 Yes serious. This ma first time watching this kind of video.

Cleco pins!!!! Thank you for finally calling them out, I saw Tureck use them on the GR Supra build and wondered what they were.
Even im learning a lot from this channel

Bucky! Such a chill dude!
Same kit I will be using on my swap. Thanks for posting this and Bucky's video will both be very useful in my journey.
what is the exact name of the kit?
@@owenadams9538 Pretty sure it is the 60mm ABW WRC kit.
Awesome, am after a 2 door Impreza RS myself now to do a B22 build, so will be watching the whole series. Love the care taken when applying the panels ...
I’ve seen those pins used a thousand times but I don’t think anyone has ever shown how they work like you did. That was awesome!
The work going into this is amazing. Cant wait to see more
Coolest video you've made so far. Car is dope🤙
Completely agree
The wing looks so cool dude. Not only that but seeing it delivered by Bucky (one of my childhood heroes) just put the icing on the cake.
Of all the content that I love from your channel, the subaru GC8 project right now is what makes my days lol.
Awesome stuff bro. I am glad that the universe is making this happen in your life.
Wish there could be such projects where i am from, tho its a dream to do a project bike or car on youtube just need the support
Love the content and build. Can't wait for this epic journey of a car build! Hope to meet you one day Cameron!!

Im a journeymen body tech there is a side of me that hates this hack work but the other side is like man this is cool....
arnt you worried about the bodies panels rusting where you sanded down to bare metal, so you could apply the glue???
Thia is turning out nicer than I imagined cant wait to see the finishes product
but also why wouldnt you atleast prime the bare metal... no matter what you do moisture is gonna get in there and some corrosion protection...
i never asked about the cleecos because i just get them from the hangar :)
OKay is Randall up for hire or is he your exclusive guy? Just purchased a retired GC8 rallycar that needs some love and I don't trust anyone, but after watching this, Randall is the man.
a v notch trowel for the glue. Then you can spread it right to the edge and nice and even. cool vid! keep it up Cameron, dude.
I just picked up an Impreza RS after my WRX was totaled and I went w the GC8 wing! The V6 looks so sick w that body kit tho🔥
Love the collab energy in the car industry now!
Why wouldn’t you cut out the rear fender to save weight.
Love your content and how your voice is so chill haha
Wouldn't bonding over raw steel be a recipe for rust?
Loving the content man, this is super super in depth! Really needed this because I want to try this as well. I just have little to no experience :')
Makes me miss my GC. Fantastic video. Love watching stuff like this. This is going to be so sick!!!
I'm so excited for this build, keep up the great work 👌
Definitely motivated from watching your videos, got my st coilovers for my avant and have to drop the subframe in order to get the old springs out, saving my self $1000 by doing it myself
love the version 6 STI wing
did you not cut away the quarter center not needed? it saves weight, and allows for easier molding.
Where did you find Randall? I need to find a Randall for my project!
I need a Randall too 😂
But what about the bare metal? Won't it rust?
looks super dope cant wait to see this beast keep up the great work..

Just wondering why you just didn't weld or leave the gas fill door? Wouldn't that help with preventing the fiberglass from caving in?
Hey where is the detailed install video for the wing ? Im in the process installing a oem v5
Doesn't the oem metal panel rust after making it bare metal? So after glueing it is not protected??
Dang it!!! I was looking forward to the fuel door installation with the 22b kit.
I click the like button before watching every video containing Subaru...
The spoiler at 26:03 is a replica subaru S201 model. Believe it or not, that whole bodykit is replica of an oem kit.
so how are you keeping the bare metal under the kit from rusting?
Fiberglass and plastics can sometimes be either brighter or darker so be careful
this thing is so dope cant wait to see next episode
how did you determine how far the "clicko" pins needed to be spaced?
So to me this is more 22b build then gc8 sti. Which idk what ur going for cause I just found this vid. But what is the difference body wise with a RS coupe and Impreza coupe vs the gc8 sti. Not the 22b.
Brings back memories with my gc8 widebody conversion @22subie
4:40 👌
Crazy that 22b-Sti sold for £171k last month in UK
Question, rough guess, how much would this cost if I paid a body shop to do it? Just a rough figure?
Bucky is such a cool guy love his vids too
Don't have to worry about it rusting under panel?

Just wait for the next video 😉
Where did you get the car stand I need tht fr
Gonna be so sick!🤘🏽🏁
Bro so jealous of this build it’s gonna be awesome
Pls make carmaspeed accessport covers👉🏼👈🏼
What bodykit kit is it?
I feel like I say this a lot but I think this is your best video. Can't wait to see the finished product and have you take me for a ride :^*
Videos just keep getting better and better right
UA-cam just baited me, it was on my fyp and i thought there was a new episode 😅
Bucky delivers?! 😮
Love this build

Let's go bro!!!!!!
Buys a wing, gets delivered by Bucky. I need to move to Cali
I’m in Phoenix AZ yo
Man even more sick. Bucky drove all that way!!
Your channel needs to blow up tho,,, wish i could meet you in person im a huge subaru lover😱
Kip going bro...gd work👌
Dope dude, will be interested to follow
The door is probably just sagged .... should have just blocked the sideskirt down .. it'll be wavy af anyways
Seriously, Bucky showed up to help? I actually need help here to complete my GC8, I got no helpers
* wii sports music *
NICE CAULK
Please tell me you handed off some Carma gear to Bucky.
good job ;-)
Damn I've never been this early
actually 22B body kit fits v6 sti wing better, the 22B wing just too wide and fat.
Trendy
I miss the 350z videos.
bro just disrespected the S201 wing
Fking nice.
You would have been better off going to Mayco 🤦♂️
I know Cameron be smoking Doobies bro.
