The letters are intentionally designed to scare people into paying and these ones with the "are you in on 'date'" window is there to add pressure to the scare tactics within the letter. The truth is and take it from someone who has been getting these letters for 4 years It is incredeibly unlikely they send someone (i haven't had one yet). Even if they eventually do send a person all you have to do is just politely refuse them. You are not required to give them any information and you are also not required to give them access to your home.

BBC Licensing are like a bad fart, that won't go away. I have been BBC Free and TV free for years now, but they continue to intimidate. Send your officers. Get your warrants. I don't care anymore tbh.
As someone who worked for a government contractor who had authority to send out letters and (fair) PCNs, I can confirm that templates are used, with the details being inserted by a person, and then the letters and/or PCNs QC'd by another team before being sent for printing and posting. There is NO chance these threatening letters were sent in error.
Even if it were a computer just randomly picking a date all communications should be checked before being sent out. Like you say, absolutely NO way these were sent in error. Absolute liars.

Im proud I don't pay a TV licence. I haven't had one for years and the BBC 'love letters' that come through my front door incessantly, make me happy that I pish them off that I don't respond, they don't know my name and they threat and threat and threat. I waste their stamps and they haven't a clue who I am and yet I am legal that I don't need a licence. Happy Christmas @bbc x
I used to work in debt collection for a retail bank. There was always a person involved to decide what action should be taken, what letter should be used, whether to cancel cards or whether to pass the debt to debt collectors. Same with loan defaults, calling in guarantees or deciding to settle. There are too many variables for the system to be completely automated. Even if a list of people and suggested actions is produced, someone has to make a decision, even if it is to follow the recommended action. Whoever runs the licensing system can't claim the letters were sent in error because there is always a person involved.
Australians simply stopped paying en-mass and they had no option than to abolish the licence…, unfortunately in the U.K. we put up with anything, we whinge about things but are not prepared to make a stand …we have gone soft !
The BBC are almost beyond parody now. Licence fees to pay extortionate wages to ever more biased presenters and Stasi tactics to anyone who has the temerity to object. Can I just give a big thank you to Daniel for all his hard work in bringing his content to us and may I wish him and his family a spectacular holiday season and prosperous New Year.
They should just put an advert on the BBC telling people that they need a licence. This way those of us who don't need a licence don't have to put up with the threatening letters (they've directly told me they don't believe that they are threatening or intimidating in any way) and those that do need a licence who have one will get to see the advert telling them what they already know! There you go. Fixed it for you BBC! 😂
Oh, it’s definitely deliberate! I’m currently being bombarded by their increasingly threatening letters! I don’t even own a TV. It’s time to end this nonsense - but it won’t happen under Two-Tier, Free Gear, etc 😱😢
Rishi Sunak, when pushed by Nadine Dories about removing the fee, said, essentially, that it is a tax matter and so will be dealt with by the tax arm of government. It's a media tax plain and simple, an unfair and preposterous one.
They wouldnt visit even if they threaten it. I have had no less than 15 visit letters since February when I moved in to my place. Not a single one has been actioned.
My question would be 'what are they proposing to do on these 'visits'? As far as I'm aware, you can watch live TV on PC, Tablet, Smart Phone and all manner of devices. Do they propose to search your property from top to bottom. to see if you have these? Total BS!
That is true, however successive NZ gov'ts have continued to bail media/TV companies out with multiple millions of taxpayer funds so that they would continue to propagandise the population.. So effectively we are still paying to listen to 'our masters voice'.
What I find interesting is years ago the BBC removed their channels from Sky's encryption system, which had a very narrow footprint over the UK, RoI and parts of Northern Europe. Instead the BBC chose a satellite system with a wide footprint, stretching to North Africa and broadcast "in the clear," without encryption. The BBC did this knowing they had no means of collecting revenue from outside the UK. How does this make any sense at all?
Au contraire - was looking forward to the knock on the door from one of their minions and letting them have my rehearsed response. Little disappointed.
If the Broken Biscuit Company can't provide you with a list of all live TV channels, let alone define what a live TV channel actually is, then how can they possibly enforce this nonsense?
You don't require a TV licence to watch BBC if you live outside the UK, as many people do. The BBC TV licence is a tax for the British public. I have not watched the BBC for over 20 years, and i don't watch any live TV or BBC iPlayer; in fact, I don't watch TV.
Well, I phoned TV licencing to tell them that I didn't need a licence. I tapped in my reference number and selected the option that asks me to confirm I didn't need one... I then was told by an automated voice that I'd be put through to someone to speak to. I waited two minutes, and was then told that there was a ten-minute wait. I then hung up, having already confirmed it and given my address reference number. I came home today, and found a letter telling me that an officer has been scheduled to visit my address "any day of the week, morning or evening"... If they arrive, I will tell them the above, and withdraw their implied right of access.
Watching the food go round in the microwave is more interesting than the BBC. As is watching the washing machine spin and the classic watching paint dry.
I told them when I moved back to the UK. Went online and told them I didn't need one. When I moved into my current home, I already had several of these threatening letters. I decided instead of telling them again, their rudeness did not warrant a response. They can keep wasting money sending threatening letters.
One of these tools turned up at my old place to "verify" my claim that I didn't need a licence. I opened the door with my coat on, told him I didn't live there, locked the door and walked off. They've started on me at my new place. I don't even have a TV, but no way in hell am I letting them.
This is appalling, and intimidating. With all the advanced technology I dont believe this should sver have happened. Merry Christmas Dan, thank you for all you do. Merry Christmas Everyone! Love and peace to All❤
We let them know a few years ago that we do not need a licence. We recently received another letter to update them by 31st December. Why do we need to tell them again?
I have not watched TV for what must be eight years or more and will not be intimidated by the BBC no mater what. They produce nothing of interest or of truth. Even if the BBC was free I would still not watch anything they produce anyway.
We've got the BBC, TV Licensing, Capita and a whole host of other companies who work within their little space. If you think your details are confidential with TVL then think again as the BBC is the data controller for TVL!!!! The whole thing is a mess and needs breaking up immediately. This HAS to stop.
@suziemorgan-stewart918 yes once upon a time it was a criminal offence in this country but obviously that's no longer the case .... Depending on who is demanding the money 👍
I'd like to see a 'Citizen Journalist' (auditor) write to their nearest TV Licensing office, telling them that they intend to visit on given date, and see how they get on.
The fact the law states you have to buy a BBC licence even if you make a point of never watching BBC and only watch other channels is completely unacceptable. The BBC know damn well that the majority of people are quite happy not to watch BBC channels. And so have pushed to make it illegal to watch any TV without first paying for a BBC licence. How on earth can they get away with that??? That's the same as having a car... and making sure you never use toll roads or bridges... yet even so... you still have to pay the toll charge every time you use your car. If we apply this law to such things... then anyone using the Tilbury Ferry to get to Gravesend should then also have to pay for a Dartford bridge toll.... even though they never used it... and were indeed... at least 6 miles away from it at all time lol.
The clue is in the age of the licence.... its from the 1940's when you only had the BBC and even if you had a TV you had to have a licence..... The BBC still thinks its the 1940's.... :)
An apology is NOT good enough. There would be somebody somewhere who got this letter and changed plans for Christmas day so they can be at home to speak to these sales people.
I got one of them 25th of December intimidation letters, the letter is as out of touch as the BBC, Keir Starmer and his government. In many of the letters I've received they actually accuse us of criminality.
Question. If one has to pay a BBC TV licence to watch other TV channels, do the BBC give any of the TV licence fee to these other channels? Yes, I think this letter was total scare tactics, and intimidation
After the ludicrous reporting on the recent German Christmas market attack now is definitely the time to call it a day with the license, especially if you were sitting on the fence.
I did get a letter you spoke about, in an earlier vid, I must tell you that this time next year ,I will be 76 I do have a TV, but I only watch Netflix and prime all films and series, I don't record or watch any live programs I do get PIP because I am disabled, the thing is, with the first letter, I was Angry, and phoned them but I got an automated voice, I then, this week I got a letter saying they will check on me next year. This makes me so so angry, BBC used to be something we loved, but through the years they changed, as well as shielding pedophiles , no not my cup of tea at all.
Imagine if your energy supplier wanted to enter your home without consent due to a warrant to make sure you haven't bypassed your meter even though you have told them you haven't. Its a private company
I had a letter last week stating a visit was was happening on the 18th and I waited all day but they didnt turn up. Ive now had 20 letters this year. I think its intimidation for sure.
I feel exactly the same way as you do about TV licencing BBB. The cash only goes to the BBC and the upkeep of the UK television transmission system. The Licence fee heavily constricts other Freeview broadcasters.
Haven't had a TV or licence for years, despite telling them I don't need a licence I get these letters almost monthly, I don't even open them, put them straight in the recycle bin, they are only flyers.
What bugs me about this "error" is that they say they have apologized? Where, when, how? Did I get a letter in the post to say how sorry they are about this mistake?
Apparently they’re coming round next week to check if I’m watching tv without a license, Good luck with that, I refuse to make a second declaration to say I no longer need a tv licence, & I refuse to converse with them, I refuse to prove it to them, Although I may open the door to them just to say.. “Could you come back in an hour because my favourite programme is just starting”🤣
top chap! Now you've done that you'll notice the letters will soon change to 'legal occupier' as you no longer keep giving them authorisation to keep your details....
@@MongooseTacticool Haha!!! I hope your cat understands when he/she is looking up bird watching on bbc iplayer and how to make catnip gift sets, they must have a tv license!!
The sending of letters designed to intimidate is not new. Perhaps forty years again, after receiving several such, I responded by sending them a letter measuring six feet by 2 1/2. That stopped further letters for about ten years! The company appears to be staffed by out-of-control aggressive late-teenagers. Or perhaps they have simply never grown up.
If I drive on the M25, I do not pay a toll to the M6 owners. This is a toll, a turnpike, on the airwaves. It is wrong. Even Sunak called it a tax, which it is.
Gosh. I pay tv licence because I, (well my wife anyway) watches BBC, I had no idea it was due if you watch or record anything (bar exceptions), that's ridiculous. How do they get away with that. And IMHO that does not look like a computer glitch, its sharp practice. Why can't they be taken to the ombudsman. That will have scared some well meaning, licence paying individuals, on xmas day, probably spoilt it for them. ......... And don't tell me they don't send notices to people that pay their TV licence, from personal experience, they do. Even if you have a standing order to pay it. Still get letters. For some reason these people are not being audited/monitored by any professional body, and they should be.
I was a certificated bailiff back in the poll tax 90's, I'm pretty sure, like liability orders, there are times and days you cannot collect debt and Xmas day was definitely one of them.
@ apparently they had outsourced the work to a third party that had deduced a “person” registered to my address at some point. May have accessed the iplayer from somewhere. However neither mine or my wife’s I players showed any activity for over 18 months, from their own records.
I have had three threatening letters from TV licensing. I had Covid for almost 2 weeks then at clinics , biopsies etc and finally surgery which is being followed by further treatment. They then sent me a horrid letter saying their representatives are coming to my flat to see if I'm watching TV ! The wording suggested they'd be coming into my flat. Outrageous!
It doesn’t matter what I think about the TV Licence I have to buy it because I do watch live tv including the BBC, however I think that you are 100 correct in that the letters were definitely sent by at least one person in the department that compiles them, a computer controlled system has to have human input to set the whole process in motion, and that person is the person who made the computer error of “put crap 💩 in , then you get crap out”, but tv licensing is an autonomous vehicle for hounding people to get there 30 pieces of silver, and that means that they can get away with it, and the apology is, of course, just playing lip service to their responsibility for cocking up………..AGAIN. P.S I think that the TV licence is a farce, as is the BBC itself, and in this day of age the BBC should either become a commercial enterprise or just scrapped, we do NOT need a taxpayer funded broadcaster in case of an emergency situation, we don’t need a broadcaster who is unbiased (which they are anyway) and by getting rid off either the BBC or scrapping the licence fee would put a little bit of money back into licence fee paying peoples pockets, but that is not going to happen because the government see the BBC as an extension of their authority and try to get their message across to the public before commercial broadcasters do, but that doesn’t happen very often as they are so poor at news gathering that they don’t pick up on important issues/events until the following day, week or month.
I've worked with email templates and letter templates for 27 years. I can tell you for an absolute fact that if this was done in error then their process has more holes than Swiss cheese. Someone somewhere is in charge of this and either allowed a scheduled letter to go out without checking (let's say every week) or it's been deliberately targeted. In any other business this kind of practice would incur heads rolling. I bet my bottom dollar nobodies head rolled. They thought they'd be able to get away with threats without being called out for it. Someone somewhere pressed SEND or someone is in charge of a routine and knew it would go out and was so incompetent they forgot the date. You'd never see them so this across another religious festival. I bet anything.
TV licensing is becoming as desperate as Keir Starmer.
No-one is as desperate as Kier Starmers wife though!!

The BBC think they own every tv station. They do not. If you don't watch their channels you do not need to pay a license. Its ludicrous
No, they don't give any of the billions of pounds to other channels
@@phil18751 That's what I thought. Isn't that a fraud of some kind?

After the ludicrous reporting on the recent German Christmas market attack now is definitely the time to call it a day with the license, especially if you were sitting on the fence.
This week I heard Radio 4 trying to spin the Southport attack as an issue of violence towards women and girls!😮.
Merry Christmas to you, Dan and family, and all viewers 🙏❤
Absolute disgrace. They cant do anything if you don't answer the door to them! They are nothing more than door to door salesman.
We should not be taxed to have a TV. BBC should be subscription like other companies or use advertising.
Just remember just because someone knocks on your door doesn't mean you have to answer it
Thank you for all you do to help us understand all this. HAPPY CHRISTMAS to you and yours.
#DefundTheBBC
They thought they would scare people into paying it by threatening them on Christmas day
I feel exactly the same way as you do about TV licencing BBB.
The cash only goes to the BBC and the upkeep of the UK television transmission system.
The Licence fee heavily constricts other Freeview broadcasters.
When they say sorry it's a sign of weakness on their part .... they acknowledge no one watches it anymore ❤
Sent in error, press X for doubt.
Dont pay b.b.c , for onesided stories, or edited to suit a narrative , protecting pdfs
"Will you be in on Christmas day" let's be honest very few people wont be. Clearly intimidation.
Yep, if the BBC are that confident in their programming then they should go subscription. But they're not, so they won't.
It is ridiculous. I choose to pay for TNT, Sky Sports and Amazon Prime. If I watch them I then have to pay for a BBC licence too!
Nope want them defunded
Apparently they’re coming round next week to check if I’m watching tv without a license,
Good luck with that,
I refuse to make a second declaration to say I no longer need a tv licence, & I refuse to converse with them, I refuse to prove it to them,
Although I may open the door to them just to say..
“Could you come back in an hour because my favourite programme is just starting”🤣
top chap! Now you've done that you'll notice the letters will soon change to 'legal occupier' as you no longer keep giving them authorisation to keep your details....
@ yes, they’ve already changed to the legal occupier,
Why would I open a letter without my name on it?😆
"Legal occupier", yeah it's a shame my cat can't read. 😂
Funny!!!!!
How the hell does a TV licence cover watching UA-cam !?
Would be wonderful if we had an impartial unbiased news channel for Britain
Daniel as always a great detailed presentation
You are a champion for the non legal of us❤
I was a certificated bailiff back in the poll tax 90's, I'm pretty sure, like liability orders, there are times and days you cannot collect debt and Xmas day was definitely one of them.
its was printed by machines that dont know its Christmas by people who dont celebrate it....
@@robtheplod Probably an illegal immigrant getting cash in hand.
I’m sick of their letters. It’s nothing short of bullying and harassment. I’ve told them several times l do not need one !!
I challenged my letter and they basically blamed a third party for it. 🤦🏻♂️🤔🤦🏻♂️🤔
That's a GDPR breach hunny
@ apparently they had outsourced the work to a third party that had deduced a “person” registered to my address at some point. May have accessed the iplayer from somewhere.
However neither mine or my wife’s I players showed any activity for over 18 months, from their own records.
I wonder how many letters they send out...? And then I wonder how much tax they are writing off on 'stationary'
Demanding money with menaces ? Their office is near Runcorn !
Is it. I live in Runcorn😂
Shucks, I was so looking forward to visit on Xmas Day !
Bring it on you, goons !😂
