wtf aggressive doesn't mean purposely swerving left and right on straights though
ik in reality the aggressive could be faster.
no aggressive is always slower. you have to be in the middle between smooth and aggressive. they said it in the video but not really show it...
Yup. That's what I wanted to see. Aggressive and risky to where it pays off sometimes, but sometimes you lose the gamble.
exactly what i was thinking. Aggressive usually is slower, especially in the long run, but 2 seconds slower and driving like a complete ass-hat swerving and missing every apex is pretty bloody good.
The video is somewhat of a parody. Listen to what they are actually saying.
I think Randy had way too much fun making this episode!
They had to retake the part with the girl several times, because Randy felt like he could do better. Wonder why...
agreed
Losteribledeldorte
Drew V ... how so ?
Haha, honestly he was a total professional and I felt very safe on set!
But what if you're agressively smooth?
passive aggressive.
my driving style lol
Keiichi Tsuchiya
Then youre fast. Mike in this video drives agressively smooth and is lightning fast.
passive aggressive?
Randy, I don't think you'll be nominated for any Oscars for your acting.. It was entertaining as hell to watch though!
I gave him a sympathy vote for having the courage to make fool of himself like that.
He is a better actor than any other car journalist/presenter
Chris Harris and Jason Cammisa are both pretty awesome presenters.
That was a bit exaggerated. I think there's a time for both aggressive and smooth. Sometimes to make the pass you gotta get a little aggressive but to keep the lead smooth is usually better.
5:09 I just died inside
and there are some cars that if you dont drive them agresively they understeer a lot
That explains why Lorenzo is impossible to catch once he's leading, but God help him if he has to battle...
@@youtubehasgonecorrupt2636 yo its been 4 years u good tho
Kinda silly comparison, you dont choose either silky smooth or balls to the wall, you stay within the happy medium of them both.
exactly a slight slide where you leave black marks on the ground but no smoke this is f****** ridiculous when did Motor Trend try to be a comedy channel is this the problem with a larger audience now you have to make the retards happy that have the attention span of a mouse. I want technical this was a great idea executed like it was done by a 12 year old
You guys need to relax, this channel has 5 million subs and only 1 or 2 percent are actual drivers. I like to show these videos to younger drivers so they understand the point without getting too technical. Once they grasp the concept, I then get technical
What I mean by drivers is racing drivers or people who track their car
I've coached karting for kids (real karting, as in the sport) and I always tell them to be smooth, calm and have patience especially at the start of races. Because it's not about going balls to the wall aggressive in the first corner that's gonna win the race. If you watch good or professional drivers, you'll see them PUSH the driver in front of them on the straights, then make their move in the corners when the person in front makes a mistake.
I agree that professionals tend to make their moves when they put their opponent under pressure and their opponent messes up, but the starts of races are very important too.
You know, you can drive aggressively without drifting around like a slowpoke ricer.
The thing they are getting at is driving at the limits not over the limits. To understand the limits you need to be aggressive enough to reach the limits. If you can take a turn at 83 MPH before you lose traction, it's both slower to take it at 80 and 85. You also have to keep in mind your brakes, tire, and vehicle wear for more endurance type races like Indy and Nascar.
This taught me more about life than driving
Dunno. I thought there would be a balance between show and the scientific method.
Instead it was all just a really prolonged way to tell someone that smooth is faster without explaining it.
They pretty much covered it discussing corner entry and exit, tire temperature, "outdriving the tires." Wasn't really scientific but that's the case.
Except when you give Ben Spies or Casey Stoner a bike. There's no explanation for that.
aluisious The discussion was really insufficient though. No depth in the arguments.
Actually those were more statements instead of explanations or arguments.
There are many situations and many cars with which you dont just overheat and overdrive the tyres just by pushing the cars limits.
Especially if its only one round, i almost guarantee you that you cant overheat a decent racing tyre... unless you compete in formula d, of course...
Since when did MT turn into cringy "comedy" channel and not for car enthusiasts?
Ever since you lost your sense of humor.
TRIGGERED
Rando is the best screw off
Drew V ayyy
Randy now makes Motor Trend seem less spam worthy!!
Also he is here to teach people like you how to drive and have fun in a car..
The acting in racing line and porn is on the same level.
Loved this episode! Walked away a little happier. :)
Hearing that makes our day, Jayson!
ik i died
Holy cow! Motor Trend responded to my comment! Awesome!
Jayson Williams s

slow is smooth and smooth is fast
We always said that in the U.S.M.C. I have never heard anyone else use that phrase, but it is so true.
***** I know my stuff don't you worry haha :)
Mind blown!!!!
Blown is mind and mind is blown
Ma dick has Fkd And fk has dicked
One question, How are so many people complaining about this free entertainment. If i didn't watch this, i would have probably wasted 8 minutes on something far worse and lower quality. THANKS Motor Trend Channel!
One of the best ads I've seen
Too bad they're too long for TV eh
they had to explain the thing with the tire because slicks go down fast when you drive aggressively. if you watched this closely the plot was that the aggressive dude lost because his tires wore off
Randy is just cool man! Love this guy
Some of you forza players, please take note
Slam into guys, when they brake for corner entry. Note taken
+Jones Nobs especially in the first corner, you don't want to have to pass them on the rest of the track.
Pressing the button harder doesn't make you go faster... said no racing gamer ever.
Home of the Mad I said that and I’m a racing gamer
I've already taken that note. I would have gone through a junior chassis or two by now if I didnt.
Randy's first kiss since 79'
Randy, I enjoy to see you enjoy your job the way you do (even though I'm asking myself is the drive in theater scenes are really necessary, but I understand the "driving" point you are trying to make) even if it's not necessarily new concepts to me after doing auto-x for years in different cars, then corner working and driving HPDE evens for longer. I love seeing you indiscriminately thrash cars around the cali tracks you do. I've left my cars in the US and am working overseas in Denmark where the tax on all cars is beginning at %120, so I get to practice my racing line via bicycle for now. Probably E30 or Volvo 122s on in the near future :) Slow is fast! Thanks Randy for sharing your driving experiences on the internet!
Randy, you are the funniest guy on motor trend. i cant tell you how happy i am that they gave you your own show. i just love it.
Randy's series has easily become one of the best and definitely one of the funniest.
Many thanks! We're glad you're enjoying it!
Honest to say, Motor Trend is getting better and better every single day. Hell, I don't care if Top Gear would come back or not anymore
I just laughed my ass off!!! thank you!!!,I needed that!!! Dano 9/16/16
So glad to hear it, Dan!
Is this what Randy was doing instead of driving the Golf R and Focus RS? Honestly his insights are my favorite part of head2head
Mr60610, ditto!. Dano
Aggressive Randy looks like Howard Stern. Really enjoying this series. :)
Randy please don't smoke weed before you make the next episode!
Love this series lol
Those MX-5's sound really good.
Randy is the voice of a generation. This is an oscar worthy performance.
no, that was all genuine praise. That video made my day better!
Thanks Randy for adding alittle fun but also being educational on driving styles. Great job.
As a motorcycle track day rider who just started cars via sim racing (AC), these videos are GREAT!!! Huge differences between vehicles. Funny videos too!!
would have been cool if you just made a video about it
A lot of my friends miss understand the meaning of smooth.. they always drive well under the limit, telling me that smoother is faster so they couldn't possibly go any faster. They call me aggressive but I don't actually slide the car, I'm just testing the limits and traction several times throughout the corner but still very smooth.
This video did not help them understand as the aggressive guy was just being an idiot, all over the place and sliding the car.
Why doesnt he just get some rotation and correct the steering every now and then? And the smooth guy maintain full traction the whole time with no rotation?
The cutaways, in my opinion, are just the right amount of cheezy. I love it!
Lmaoooo the whole skit at the beginning was hilarious but "0 to 100 real quick" is where I finally lost it
I know the answer, but I'll watch anyway...
I fucking love randy
Pobst is the bester evar.
Much appreciated!
This is far and away my favourite show on the channel. Randy, you're awesome.
as usual,i always leave a motortrend video smiling :)
That makes us smile.
I love hearing Randy's breakdown a car's handling characteristics in his reviews ... this was a bit silly, but still great entertainment. Go Randy!!
Thanks Randy, I has a bad day at work. But then I saw this episode. I feel great now.
I'd say its about putting down the power in the most efficient manner, that applies to aceleration, taking curves, and braking but in this case its about reducing speed without loosing grip, so within these boundaries you have to be as aggressive as possible
Smooth vs Aggressive is exactly my problem at the trackdays, I guess it's a matter of focus, when I have cars near me I just want to pass them asap and end up been slower.
Great episode, thank you!
love this show, love randy. keep it up
Randy can sure hold his own for his own channel! Yeah, it was over the top, and I'd have preferred seeing 'aggressive' without over-the-top wasteful extra kick-outs (the ones in the corners were fine, but it looks like a few were thrown in), but we sorta get the point. That aside, Randy - congrats on your show, and thank you. Keep in mind that you don't have to prove anything to us by being the ultra-showman - most of us would be just happy even if you gave us a dry lecture, lol; you're already well known.
Randy Pobst is the Bill Nye of the racing world. Thanks for the entertainment!
MR.Agressive was faster by 0.24s
..according to their stats with 2s headstart and finish of: 1:35:39 & 1:37:15
Such a great video!! Love you Randy
This is probably funiest episode that Motor trend ever made!GREAT JOB MOTOR TREND;))))
Come on! That was not agressive driving, that was driving as a RICER.
Dating advice from 70's Randy should be it's own show..!
As for people complaining about over the top demonstrations, this is geared towards beginners and is sound advice when you're getting started.
I love the silliness of this series, I would love to see more :D
Looking for a helmet like this, anyone knows what brand this is?;((((
I have always liked Randy. Good to see him have his own show on MT and not just filling in to test drive cars on Jason or Johnny's show. Keep 'em coming Randy!
You can count on it!
All Randy needs is a dragon print smoking jacket, an Afro and a bottle of Couvoisier...super smooth! great driving tips, Randy making the world better one shift at a time
I'm Mr. Aggressive on Forza and GT
the only way to win in those games
Pretty much, I always played as the person who would ram other cars and cut corners thru the infield to gain position
That's a good place to do it.
I love this series
Love this series
I actually like these skits a lot even though he's not the best actor but thats part of the humor! Keep it up Randy! Do what you like to do and enjoy it!
Randy Pobst, I love you! I've learnt a lot from you already.
Like how Randy plays two characters in this episode. He's the aggressive driver and the marshal too
I always remember a piece of advice that applies to racing and many other things in life: Slow is smooth, smooth is fast
What a charismatic guy, really enjoying the new series!
Love these episodes they are so cool
you make my day randy
great episode !
I have a really good question is it better to gear down going in to a corner or just use brakes?
what are those rims on mx5 can you please?
Randy, you are awesome man! Keep doing what you do!
Oh man this was amazing! Way to fly your true colors dude!
My favorite episode so far. Took me a while to recognized mr. aggressive
They really hit it out the park with the new Miata's design.
the fast and furious reference with Randy driving past the start line lol.
love it, wish that it can update the sametime as on the motor trend on demand
Love this guy 🙌
so excited Randy has his own show! :D
This is so sweet
What an awesome video.
I have nothing against fooling around but why on earth did you make a show with a racing driver as a host that should be about learning a good and fast driving style and then just make silly, completely uninformative episodes? If you want something just for fun give him a dirttrack and some old pickups or something but don´t try to make it seem like it should be informative.
yea this was needlessly cheesy and boring.
Oh thank goodness I'm not the only one thinking this. What demographic was this even aimed at? Kids who can't afford cars?
i think it was pretty nice. i mean ofc tires wear off faster at higher temperatures, but that's not interesting when you don't use slicks. slicks aren't common to usual drivers so they were explained. i already knew what this is about but i wouldn't say everyone would
one of my favorite episode :P
great job you two
This was so funny!! Btw when I clocked my fastest lap time at the go kart racetrack in my town I was driving aggressive af
Love this series, unfortunately not much to get out of that episode... it happens. Hope the next one will be as good as the previous ones
Yeah, I was really looking for an argument of entering a corner with lots of momentum and carrying it through vs. coming in hot and using heavy braking to hit the apex.
gotta love Randy
This is some real quality content right here...
Got it. Don't overdrive the tire and keep it smooth. Solution get a better tire since the BF's couldn't handle the pressure. lol seriously, fun episode. Thanks
That was amazing
Agreed, in general the only time overpowering the drive wheels is of any benefit is if you need to increase slip angle beyond what the car could normally do at speed, a hairpin on a steep grade comes to mind, burning rubber on the track rarely ever improves lap times.
I died when he dropped that Drake 0-100 reference 😂😂
Between my two cars, I run mostly Falken, but have a couple BFgoodrich sport comps
thats one hell of a bf goodrich add
can you buy that track spec miata?
This was awesome😂
I love this series, I'm familiar with all the content but it's put into good context so I end up showing it to younger drivers. It's hard to explain how to be smooth and apexes to a four year old in karting😂
Glad you're enjoying it, Matheus, and thanks for writing!
I should be the one thanking here, thanks for the great Racing Line episodes!
Omg this is the best video ever i love you randy
I liked the visual analogy, lol
0-100 real quick. I died.
Randy, you the best!
LOL... Randy.... THANKS FOR THE VIDEO!!!
Loved the video and comedy in it :D
It is true that smooth lends to better lap times, but aggression is vital when attempting to overtake opponents. For example, on a corner entry, you might brake later than usual and give up corner exit speed but if you time it correctly, you can overtake an opponent and stay ahead because you are blocking them off until you have to brake for the next corner, which you'll have to take smoothly and regain momentum
