To sing bass parts from Voiceplay I need to eat like a gallon of ice cream and sleep 14 hours and get a double sinus infection all in the same go and HOPE that I can get in that low range
I thought my growl note were depressingly high compared to others, but this has shown me that while they aren't as low as I'd like, with practice I can definitely do some of these songs. Thanks for putting this up, it just made me feel a little better about myself
SirRandomMonkey in this video, none of the notes are subharmonics. The only video where geoff hits a sub harmonic note is in their twenty one pilots medley
Well my chest notes around G1 sound like that, and I also frequently use subharmonics, I know that the G1s in "Arabian Nights" and "White Christmas" are not that. It's especially obvious in the "White Christmas", because it's a seamless slide. Subharmonics require a transition of some sort. Oh and I'm not even going to debate his G1 in "Death of a Bachelor", it's obviously chest :P If you want to hear Geoff use subharmonics, have a listen at their "Twenty One Pilots Mashup", I think it's a great example!
They aren't subharmonics or growl, but if they're chest the tone is quite mangled. His tone has improved lately (Nov 2017) though. The one in Arabian Nights could be throat singing and White Christmas is more of an amplified gurgle.
:You will find this comment under every Vocal Range video of mine: Please refrain from any type of comment where you write your range and ask if is it good like "chest G1 - C5 and I am 13-years old". It is most respectful that you allow people to comment what they wish, if you don't you might as well disable the comments. Nice video btw. :-)
I imagine he can hit those notes quite reliably considering he can drop a decent ways beneath them without any loss in power or sound, like in The Death of a Bachelor
semi acappella music He is considered a true bass, and usually true basses lowest comfortable note is around B1 so I'd believe that he could sing those easily
On Kurt Hugo Schneider's channel he put up a twenty one pilots mash up with voiceplay and Geoff seems to hit a few F#1's. I think he hit a couple in sub-harmonics and some in chest. The chest ones might be growl but the sound like chest notes.
Same, I can’t tell if it’s me or my headphones, but did you have trouble hearing anything below an Eb1?(I also have to mention that E1 is the lowest note on a freaking four string bass)
@@macm.3889 Yup. I had trouble listening to the Eb1. But then I realize that the lower the note, there is a high possibility that the speaker can't sustain that note. Thus silence happens.
Giuseppi Enad, Okay, thanks. That’s good to know with the speakers. Also, I want to get better at reading treble clef(since I read alto) so I’ve been messing with string arrangements a little bit, and just came across VoicePlay a few days ago, I know that they’re vocal arrangements, but it’s amusing to me that in their partwork sheet music, the only instrument I can’t mimic on a cello(a bass) can’t even be reliably used to mimic him(even though a note out of that range is relatively rare(except apparently Eb1?)) (I play viola anyway, so most of their voices are a lost cause since I have nothing below C3) But it’s fun to try and transpose it regardless.
I’m so confused. All of these videos people are arguing about what notes are actually chest or subharmonic... why does that matter? It doesn’t make it any less impressive because he is still hitting the note without frying it
Callum Hening I’m not sure about his notes being chest voice or not, but why do his lower notes sound so croaky? His E2 sounded nice and deep, but the lower he went the more jarring the notes got. That happened with a lot of bass singers, and it doesn’t sound good at all.
Wow. You did some really good research for this video! Two ideas of me you may want to think about in a future update: In the recent video, Twenty one pilots mashup, Geoff hits a F#1 several times with subharmonics. I don't think the E1 in this video (10:24) is chest voice. In my opinion, this is either sung with subharmonics as well, or vocal fry.
no, it's a slide, you can't switch register during a consistent slide. Also, he only hits subharmonic f#1's during his solo but after that, when he's diong bass, he sings f#1 in chest
Really some good effort!!!In fact i myself have Absolute Pitch and i didnt realise that the D (in the phantom of the opera)was a D1 and not a D2. (Ofcourse AP doesn't help in identification of which octave lol)
Well that’s four octaves, but yeah, he has C#1(though I can’t hear anything below Eb1 right now for some reason) He has a solid C5 so that’s only one semitone under a full four octaves, and he undoubtedly can reach into falsetto, so that’s a solid four octaves, which is ridiculous as an avg singer has about 2 - for reference Brendon Urie’s range is extreme and he has 3 octaves and 6 notes (After his chest range, it goes C5 D E F G A5) that’s only two notes below C6 so that’s really really close to a five octave range(serously) which is like superhuman
That looks like Chris Rupp from Home Free at 9:13 !! Was he ever part of the group or he was just doing a little cameo (that’s probably it) anyway, awesome. I mean I know he left Home Free at some point
He is NOTNOTNOT a bass-baritone LMAO. He's certainly a very low-bass. Bassitones have difficulty tapping C2 most of the time. Basses should be able to belt G4 with practice just like tenors can practice to belt G5+.
Can you make a J. None vocal range video? They just released a song today and he sings high and low in it so that would be a good video to take notes from
I genuinely think Geoff is a professional throat singer or some shit, because in White Christmas @ 9:45 , you can hear his D2 even sounds “croaky” and that’s why he can slide down to the G1 cleanly with no break. But before he starts the last 2 notes he is in chest, clear difference in tone and sound
My lowest growl is A1 with fry i can hit G1 and F1. But my voice is still pretty high. Highest Chest note is C4, with falsetto a G5 and Head to C6 and whistle to Mariah Careys' high notes
Trust me. A lot of people checked all of his notes and only one that we are not certain about is the F1 from Phantom of the Opera. That might be chest but F♯1 and G1 are definitely growled.
Does anyone else find those drops in The Death of a Bachelor to be the most satisfying sound?
yess!!
54321blader totally
I find it painful to hear it, Because the note sounds SO forced, and it hurts my voice thinking about it xd
It doesn't sound good in my personal opinion he dropped to the wrong note to fast with a sharp change
To sing bass parts from Voiceplay I need to eat like a gallon of ice cream and sleep 14 hours and get a double sinus infection all in the same go and HOPE that I can get in that low range
I mean I can hit most of the low notes he can it just sounds fucking wild when he does it
or learn to do subharmonic
ahahah
And drink loads of whiskey
I mean a lot of people can hit at least some where in the second range I mean I can hit low c and I’m a counter tenor and yes I get the joke
