I aim very happy with the car's upgrades from the Y. While the Mercedes is interesting, I think I would find all the buttons and lights distracting. I love the clean look of all Teslas, and don't ever want to have to deal with buttons again. I can, however, understand how the Mercedes' features would be more entertaining for people with kids. Isn't it wonderful that we are getting to the point where there are more and more options for electric vehicles? Keep up the good work!
20:37 Because there are many not so attentive people on this world and having a car turn on simply when you get in might result in some issues. In addition, not everytime you get into the car you would actually want to drive it somewhere.
The app of Tesla is better. You can’t start the EQS with the MB app. With Tesla app, you can drive even without the fob (key on MB version, you must have the key to start your eqs). You can open your home garage with the Tesla app. But not MB app.
Great review. Now I know the Model X is overpriced. ( Sorry Tesla fans). Cabin quality and craftsmanship of the EQS is so well done. It's like a Sheraton bedroom compared to Tesla's Motel 6. The battery pack is the only well worthy advantage IMO. If you have a family, 0-60 times is not a factor either.
Yes, great review. My suspicions were correct. So happy I’m not paying for “luxury” but for performance, practicality and piece of mind. It will take much more than a fancy grill and flashy interior to give up these.
Tesla has a way better battery pack, and better range overall. Also gets you access to the supercharging network, which is years ahead of CCS. Also more storage, and ease of use.
Nice review. EQS has a lot more space (leg space) than Model Y or Model X, so no comparison there. Also the range is estimated at 285, but you will get 350+ actual range on it in city driving, where as Tesla is the opposite.
Air doesn't go through the grille because there's no engine to cool therefore it's not needed. It would just create more drag. Those lines are probably for looks and maybe aerodynamics.
Tesla Fan here and sold 2018 Model X and replaced it with EQS 450 4Matic. No complaints. Things I miss…. No Frunk in the EQS. Otherwise EQS is better in every way. Thing I don’t miss. The FWD on the X are a disaster and not family friendly for our needs. Try parking the X in a parking garage, you’ll soon realize FWD doors will not open all the way and having access to kids in the back seat is impossible. Still have my 2018 Silver Model 3 and will keep it until I upgrade to the S.

Thank you for the really detailled comparison! 😃👍 You have an American viewpoint. Interesting, but don't forget it's a German car. The operational concept is a bit oriented to German habits and to the habits and expectations of Mercedes owners. Just turn the time 20 years back and imagine you'd compare a Mercedes coupé vs. a Dodge Charger or Chevrolet Camaro. Completely different concepts for different people with different habits in mind. 😉 That's the interesting in globalisation: most people can choose what they like to purchase depending on their taste. And thanks to internet and UA-cam that everyone can make an informed decision. You gave your good share in helping people making a decision! 😃👍
I have not driven the EQS or any other MB EVs. But I testdrove a new Model X and was surprised at how noisy it still is as well as the poor ride quality despite having air suspension with the improvements from the Raven upgrade. Very disappointed in the X. (And of course the Model Y noise and ride are even worse.)
@@bavariancarenthusiast2722 I tried the EQE SUV and agree that it was very quiet, fairly comfortable, and has decent performance. The trim I drove was not very exciting, and the ride was a bit unsettled.
Excellent and honest review. Great job. I like the tech in Tesla but hate the customer service I bought 4 teslas starting with my Very Orange Tesla Roadster #796. And 3 model S. Probably my last. Very disappointed in FSD. 11.4.4 sucks. The fact that you can never call anyone. When I started with Tesla I had the numbers and contact info for the head of service and Battery development. Now I can’t talk to someone in Reception at a local service center.
Great review we bought the EQS 580 the other day for a great deal. Still learning some of the abilities, but must say the comfort of the drive is fantastic, and the overall feel we are very happy with.
The outside is so boring and yet the interior is so stylish. I think the extra ~$10k over the Model X is to pay for all the rgb lighting 😅 It does look very cool though. I still think the Model X wins for me in most categories but I do believe that ride quality improvements for the Model X and S would really take them to that next level.
@@JakeRichardsong Proven every single time I drive either one of my two Teslas. The rigging calculations that Tesla has been accused of is very nearly accurate to my own experience. By contrast, I recently bought a Rivian R1S and the experience is entirely different. I actually get the range that is qualified and in real world. I think I might have still held out some doubt had I not experienced accurate range predictors on a car.
Fair and fun experiential comparison. The service dictates of my 2016 Model X has been, and still is, impersonally mean and cruel. I' will next opt for the EQS,: because preferentially, a sales/service PESON conversational interaction and negotiation is worth it, for an old guy like me.
If you’re an “old guy” Then I guess no internet for you. Go back to rotary telephones. And hit the library when you want information. Every tesla appointment I had they came to my house. That seems to be service to me?
Great review! Really day-to-day perspective which is very refreshing. For me its not a real comparison - the EQS much higher quality and superior in any way - except if you need the Tesla charging network (which will Mercedes use now as well), which would be a deciding factor for me. Since I live in Europe with a good CCS network - it's not a deal breaker for me. The EQS is a luxury car- the X is an appliance and people mover, for what it is - the X is way too expensive.
Let’s put it in this way: Europeans can’t match tesla in where it matters the most for vehicle - the power train and have to resort to becoming some upholstery maker with some fancy leds, wallpaper it ‘luxury’ to impress the uninformed.
@wsu8568 you can speak for yourself! I'm an American and having had the pleasure of both, I chose the EQS. It makes the tesla feel like a cheap Chinese knockoff. The tesla was not a bad vehicle but if you factor in the price point it kinda is for what you actually get. The only cool aspect about the X was the rear doors, the kids love it! Other than that it did not feel as special as the EQS.
4:36 You can seamless put a gas car driver inside and it can start without any instruction.... Seen that way, a former Mercedes Gas Driver can start with no problem ^^
Mercedes needs to get off their high horse and leave ICE design cues behind. So much wasted space and materials, and goofy design choices (external port for wiper fluid, a start button, and artificially limited regen) Legacy autos are way out of touch
Ambient lighting takes away from your night vision in a big way. Especially that one. As cool as it looks I’d never have it on. I don’t even use the tesla one.
That is simply not true. You adjust each zone to the brightness you like, and it is not even close to distracting. Only someone who has not driven an eqs at night would suggest that
4:19 No thanks! I love my Tesla model y and cannot imagine having to turn the car on and off. I like getting into my Tesla and it being ready to go. So seamless and effortless!
So you’re telling us you’ve never had a better car? I drove a 2018 Raptor in high school, back then i thought it was the best thing in the world until I got my hands on a GLS580 in sophomore year of college. Two months ago i went back to Shanghai and rode in my dad’s Maybach.. all i can say is you need to experience different things to enjoy life instead of living in a bubble
Does the EQS need regular servicing ? I may be cynical but Old schoolCar manufacturers are likely to nail you after you buy it with expensive servicing as they have done for decades. No servicing is still one of the many things I love about my Teslas.
Ahh, the EQS 450 is nice and so much superior to the Tesla - but wait you really need to review the EQS 580. There is no comparison there, night and day - Mercedes quality and luxury outstrip Tesla. Charging, I have no problem charging my 580 at Electrified America (EA), I took a trip from Phoenix to Charlotte North Carolina and had no issue charging (great network). I saw several Tesla charging on EA even though there was a Tesla charging station not more than 5 miles away (?). Best though the trip was free as Mercedes gives you 2 years of free charging (with 30 minute sessions). Another differentiator - Hyper screen, it's awesome, one screen across the entire dash, look beautiful. O can go on and on, love my EQS 580!
I love my EQS Suv. Smooth ride and the lighting and technology is amazing. I’ve also had a Tesla and even with the few advantages it had. The EQS ride quality and interior feel is leagues ahead and I would never go back to a Tesla.
Great review! If you turn off the creep function the car will come to a complete stop without hitting the breaks on strong recuperation. If you give the back seat pen holder a second light push it will slide all the way out into a cup holder.
Nice car but doesnt look very sporty. Looks like any other regular car. For that amount of money It should look a little more sporty. The lights inside are cool but after a month off playing with that they become boring. Just my opinion..
This car looks INCREDIBLE.. but I'd be most interested when I'm going on a road trip.. and at that point.. no way. I'll take Tesla for the supercharging network all day long. Once they implement NACS, it becomes a viable option IMO.
I am warning you all. Please do not buy this car based on its outside beauty. They do not have spare parts in stock for this vehicle. If something bad like an electrical part is not working or some minor accident happens, you may keep your vehicle for months in workshops. My vehicle has been sitting in a workshop for the past 60 days since they do not have a spare part, and the funny thing is they do not have an ETA for that. I have knocked on all the doors and even wrote a letter to the CEO MB. They do not have customer sympathy; eventually, we will waste our hard-earned money. German company does not care about Americans. I suggest buying a TESLA even though they have issues with the car is better. They are customer friendly modern company.
After this video, and having visited the Mercedes website (again)... I believe for an SUV I prefer the Model X over the EQS. However, I might prefer the S-Class Sedan from Mercedes over the Model S.
Yuu should try an EQS with the Hyperscreen. Will give you more tech and also remove the piano black center console. If the size of the EQS is too much, the EQE SUV is also great.
I see much more deal breakers than you. Like too many physical buttons, leather seats ( both last century), no frunk, not as efficient as Tesla, hardly working OTA updates, too heavy, etc.
Nice review, thank you! I'll stick to my Tesla soon to be Teslas. Love my '22 MS LR for it's non cluttered interior but placed an order for '24 MX for more cargo space while waiting for my CyberTruck. Have had enough with ICE vehicles made under the MB , BMW and LR logos. And, getting way too old to bother with all those knobs, buttons, etc.
Being a R1S owner and have driven Model X, I prefer R1S more. R1S & MX are more practical for family with kids where EQS SUV is more for adults. Level-3 autonomy, HUD, rear wheel turning, ambient light, massage option and quiet cabin are basically new hallmark of Mercedes Benz brand.
Good review. You are testing the lowest level EQS SUV. No Hyperscreen, and the worst looking body kit available. I own the EQE and EQE SUV (Wife's) at the level you reviewed because that is what I wanted. With that said it makes the comparison very one sided and not completely accurate. It is a fun conversation though. My Sister-in-law has a Model Y and it is what made me go electric. Also double tap the rear cup holder so it comes all the way out.
Unless you love dealing with dealerships, Tesla all the way. The dealerships will find ways to make the maintenance of EQS comparable to ICE, if not most likely more.
Tesla called me and sold me the car. I picked it up in a dirty dusty transport yard, and do at least 5 trips each year to the big stinking hot tin shed (with zero bathroom facilities) to fix tesla issues. I get updates almost weekly to fix tesla’s last updates, and I cannot actually call anyone to discuss how the regular warranty repairs are going on the failure proned car. Yep, I’ll take the accountable dealership back. Over the tesla stupidity.
70 mph test showed that EQS SUV got 375 miles (EPA 305) and Model X LR got 331 miles (EPA 348)

I love the clean look of all Teslas, and don't ever want to have to deal with buttons again. I can, however, understand how the Mercedes' features would be more entertaining for people with kids. Isn't it wonderful that we are getting to the point where there are more and more options for electric vehicles? Keep up the good work!
Most welcome
I did watch might be 40 videos of EQS but yours was the best
Still I’m going to buy the MB.
Thank you Kim
Awesome to hear. Thank you!
EQS looks more executive than family oriented .
Features of Mercedes EQS SUV I want in Tesla is, HUD view, Rear steering control, and quietness 😂😂
20:37 Because there are many not so attentive people on this world and having a car turn on simply when you get in might result in some issues. In addition, not everytime you get into the car you would actually want to drive it somewhere.
Liked the rear wheel steering and HUD. A decibel meter comparison over the same stretch of road would be great.
2:52 You actual can open it, but there is nothing to see for customers. It is for Service only.
The point is that there is no actual front storage space, like all Tesla cars have.
The app of Tesla is better. You can’t start the EQS with the MB app. With Tesla app, you can drive even without the fob (key on MB version, you must have the key to start your eqs). You can open your home garage with the Tesla app. But not MB app.
Incorrect. I have had someone pick up my EQS for me without a key
@@kalintashev rapid acceleration is just that, it is not performance.
Tesla has a way better battery pack, and better range overall. Also gets you access to the supercharging network, which is years ahead of CCS. Also more storage, and ease of use.
@@Paul-sd8vk The Tesla has greater range.
Nice review. EQS has a lot more space (leg space) than Model Y or Model X, so no comparison there. Also the range is estimated at 285, but you will get 350+ actual range on it in city driving, where as Tesla is the opposite.
Misinformation at best.
Air doesn't go through the grille because there's no engine to cool therefore it's not needed. It would just create more drag. Those lines are probably for looks and maybe aerodynamics.
there are cup holders at th back too, in the eqs, loong press the pen holder theyll pop out.
can you do cadilac Lirq next
Waiting
Tesla Fan here and sold 2018 Model X and replaced it with EQS 450 4Matic.
No complaints.
Things I miss…. No Frunk in the EQS.
Otherwise EQS is better in every way.
Thing I don’t miss. The FWD on the X are a disaster and not family friendly for our needs. Try parking the X in a parking garage, you’ll soon realize FWD doors will not open all the way and having access to kids in the back seat is impossible.
Still have my 2018 Silver Model 3 and will keep it until I upgrade to the S.
If only the Model X had the same ambient lighting, HUD and 3D surround cameras.
Ambient lighting 3rd party on my X ROCKS
is that for mood or does it have an actual function?
@@mikeni1225 Not sure why you’re asking that, Isn’t it obvious? Ambient light for the mood and feeling, whereas the HUD and cameras have function.
@@mikeni1225 yes it has a safety function. The lighting all pulses red when another car is in your blind spot or you trynopening a door into oncoming traffic or bikes
I don’t care about HUD, don’t get the obsession with that.
Thank you for the really detailled comparison! 😃👍
You have an American viewpoint.
😉
That's the interesting in globalisation: most people can choose what they like to purchase depending on their taste.
Didnt buy any Tesla because the noise
Tesla quality ain’t great overall. More of a tech, cool vehicle
Try the EQS and let us know :)
@@bavariancarenthusiast2722 I tried the EQE SUV and agree that it was very quiet, fairly comfortable, and has decent performance. The trim I drove was not very exciting, and the ride was a bit unsettled.
@@davidbryant2872 Thank you for your feedback mate! Will you or did you decide for a new ride base on it?
Excellent and honest review. Great job. I like the tech in Tesla but hate the customer service I bought 4 teslas starting with my Very Orange Tesla Roadster #796. And 3 model S. Probably my last. Very disappointed in FSD. 11.4.4 sucks. The fact that you can never call anyone. When I started with Tesla I had the numbers and contact info for the head of service and Battery development. Now I can’t talk to someone in Reception at a local service center.
Model X doesn’t look like an SUV. It’s too smal
Great review we bought the EQS 580 the other day for a great deal. Still learning some of the abilities, but must say the comfort of the drive is fantastic, and the overall feel we are very happy with.
Congrats on the new ride!
Kim, nicely done. Fair assessment. Rear wheel steer yes! Quiet is signature Mercedes S. Tesla still rocks for me.
Benz. The interior!
EQS far superior to the Tesla X in quality and comfort. Tesla needs to move forward with new designs and quality.
The Tesla X has better range… BEFORE we all found out Tesla was rigging its numbers.
Rigging acusation not proven.
I'd love to change your mind.
If you’re an “old guy”
Then I guess no internet for you.
For the price and being Merz, the running board should retract until the door is opened.
EQS all the way, better all around and super luxurious 😊
EQS please
Mercedes needs to get off their high horse and leave ICE design cues behind. So much wasted space and materials, and goofy design choices (external port for wiper fluid, a start button, and artificially limited regen) Legacy autos are way out of touch
The EQS is out of my budget. I am waiting on an EQE SUV 4MATIC. I’ve seeing a lot that Benz has been holding to their range numbers and plus as well.
Mercedes-Benz vehicles have too busy interior and the interior lightning for me is way too much
The EQS SUV and EQE SUV are built about 180 miles west of Atlanta.
Oh in which city?
Ambient lighting takes away from your night vision in a big way. Especially that one. As cool as it looks I’d never have it on. I don’t even use the tesla one.
That is simply not true. You adjust each zone to the brightness you like, and it is not even close to distracting. Only someone who has not driven an eqs at night would suggest that
4:19 No thanks! I love my Tesla model y and cannot imagine having to turn the car on and off. I like getting into my Tesla and it being ready to go. So seamless and effortless!
Can't imagine having to push a button? The Humanity!.... First world problems are real lol
EQS - it’s like a car and a disco ball had a baby
How much heavier?
I'm VERY leery of any fragrances.
Anyway, good to see MB start to move on EVs. Hope they stay up with the Chinese at least.
I would prefer Mercedes Benz EQS !!!!!!!!!! Luxury with style and technology 👍
10:45 EQS SUV has less cargo space than a Model Y: 74 vs 76 ft^3.
Drive a Tesla Model X P90D since 09/23. No issues , always running, and no 100k bottoms ….. the case is clear. Greetings from Switzerland
That’s great to hear!! Owner of a model Y 2023 and already looking at an X for the future
Nice car but doesnt look very sporty. Looks like any other regular car. For that amount of money It should look a little more sporty. The lights inside are cool but after a month off playing with that they become boring. Just my opinion..
Tesla is falling way way behind, and Elon thinks everything is just fine.
model X also love the exotics options but i am moving away from all the buttons.
Cool, in reality the MB goes a lot further on a charge (check Kyle's test) than EPA, a lot further.
EQs is like a cool baby mama car like a push present 🎁
Thank you for letting us know! Hoping and praying everything works out for you.
Do you know when the 2024 EQS SUV will come out? I’m not sure if I should wait or get the 2023
Amazing video. Was very curious about this car. Thanks so much for making!
Glad you liked it!
After this video, and having visited the Mercedes website (again)...
I believe for an SUV I prefer the Model X over the EQS.
However, I might prefer the S-Class Sedan from Mercedes over the Model S.
Luxury and quality of builds of MB all the way!
Mercedes👍
Yuu should try an EQS with the Hyperscreen. Will give you more tech and also remove the piano black center console. If the size of the EQS is too much, the EQE SUV is also great.
That was on the list, unfortunately, no one in my area was renting the 580.
I see much more deal breakers than you. Like too many physical buttons, leather seats ( both last century), no frunk, not as efficient as Tesla, hardly working OTA updates, too heavy, etc.
Leather seats? What’s wrong with that?
@@jackz4149 The production of leather seats is absolutely not acceptable from environment point of view (not sustainable)
@@janh-r8h they’re really comfortable and all my cars have nappa leather, faux leather feels cheap in a 6 figure car
Hi Kim, I wonder if you can review Hudway Driver for Tesla. It is a head up display
TESLA ALL THE WAY….
There are cup holders, right behind the device holder (pen holder lol). You just gave to pop it out all the way.
That is a fat car! I would forever be parking 2 miles away from everything
I heard the Benz EQS gets amazing range... Is it true?
it gets much closer to advertised than Tesla's advertised range
Forget Tesla
Love your videos. Keep em comin.
Yes, I'll likely replace my 2016 Model X, preferentially, with some extraction of the Mercedes EQS.
Biggest thing now is price. Model x brand new is now starting at 80K where the EQS is 100k plus
