Heir unlike the last video with the Ardieai I am not going to rant about how good they actually are, but I will mention something unique about the Illyrian Marines. Another hidden stat in the game is accuracy. Besides artillery (land, fixed, and ship-mounted), almost all units have an accuracy stat of 5. The Illyrian Marines however have 15 accuracy and therefore can much more effectively throw at units that are engaged with allied troops without causing friendly fire. Also, there are only 5 units (non-artillery) with more than 5 accuracy. Illyrian Marines, Dacian Heavy Skirmishers and Dacian Heavy Bowmen all have 15, and the Amazonian Riders and Scythian Noblewomen have a 20. Now projectiles also have their own accuracy (effected by the shot type) and marksmanship bonus (added to the unit's accuracy) but almost all small arms have a marksmanship bonus of 30 unless it is flaming ammunition then it has 5. There is also a bunch of other stuff about what range the unit is engaging at, but this comment is long enough. The point is Illyrian Marines are very good at throwing javelins into a fight that has already started.
Thanks for the info! I didn't know this and that's awesome cause I love Illyrian Marines. So many javs and cool outfits to boot! Also, you seem very knowledgeable...I'd love to see a collab between you and Heir where you go over some really cool, semi-hidden statlines from the game. There's so much I think I'd need to sift through the info of each unit on the wiki or look via Pak file manager.
@@wickd_5736 Thank you for the praise and you are welcome for the information. It's been years since I learned a lot of this stuff (don't always remember right without looking it up). A little more than a week before Emperor Edition came out, I got back into Rome 2 and specifically wanted to learn how to mod stuff. I only have very basic programing knowledge, so I had to learn a lot on my own. The two most helpful things for me were Sebidee's guides on total war center forums and Magnar's channel on UA-cam. Not only did I learn to mod Rome 2 from these guys I also learned to understand how CA stores and organizes information, which is super useful for finding out how things work. These guys did not get enough credit even when Rome 2 was in full swing, and I believe both are still around making stuff so go check them out. If the old Rome 2 stuff, they both made, is floating around it is super useful for understanding in game interactions if you are interested. For the second thing I am pretty busy right now, and not really sure what a collab would be. I mean me sending Heir a bunch of screenshots of the DB tables and a short description of what they mean doesn't really make a good video. TW Atilla for all its quirks and issues had multiple websites that had all of the hidden stats and interaction in a form you could easily look up. Idk if people ever did that for Rome 2. By the time I cared about it I already knew how to find it myself so I honestly couldn't tell you. EDIT: though this just came to me I would love to see some stuff done about unit entities as the game hides base health, speed and mass behind really confusing descriptions of weight classes and doesn't tell you crap. Maybe with some time there is a video in that topic.
A nice way to figure out a unit's commander is still alive, is to get your screen in to said unit's face. Usually at the front middle, there is a guy dressed or equiped different from rest of the dudes and he is the one. If its the general unit so the commander is the general of the army.
Thank you for the video! The worst thing about the Ardieai is... their faction icon. The units' banners look like plain white piece of fabric. It is difficult to see which unit is wavering and which is fleeing.
3:20 my god cathage just kept throwing cav in, u guys are most likely LEAGUES with the capital letters better than me, but even i know sending all my horses into so many javelins cant be the best use of the cav here
Too see if a general has died hover on any unit and on the little card above them that has their fatigue levels and men left it will say general has recently died or general is dead if it says non of this then the general is still alive.
I don't understand why the Ardiaei player charged his Illyrian Thureos into the Noble Fighters. Should have at least used square so they wouldn't break almost instantly. Heir, love you videos but you are completely wrong about Ardiaei. They are most definitely one of the strongest Greek factions in-game. The mistake people often do is that they play them defensively. Noble Hoplites have a charge bonus of 30 which is _very high_ for a hoplite unit and can be used to a devastating effect. 2 units people also sleep on are Mercenary Celtics and normal Illyrian Hoplites. Celtics are fast and great for flanking and normal Illyrian Hoplites have 105 armor which means they can take a _lot_ of missile fire. The most glaring weakness of Ardiaei is their weak cav (similar to Sparta) but since Rome 2 is an infantry-dominated Total War, it's not a huge drawback.
