Kerbal Spaceships Are Serious Business - Realistic Playthrough - Part 1
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- I can't put it off any longer, we're going to play Realism Overhaul as far as I can take it, and hope that we can have some fun and maybe talk about real science while we're at it. Part 2 will follow tomorrow!
(if someone has a better title, please suggest it). - Ігри
Holy shit. I never knew the mod ended up on your doorstep. I worked on it with NathanKell back in the day when we initially called it Realistic Progression Lite. I abandoned the project, but I'm glad it was later picked up and brought to heights I wouldn't have ever dared reach. It's amazing!
It’s still improving to this day
Thumbs up before the intro roll finished.
I have unreasonable expectations. Yay!!
Mythricia That's true, this might be his worst video ever. But probably not.
+Mythricia jup insta like just because its scott
+Jordan Shank even if it is, all of his videos so far have been thumb worthy. At least, all the ones I have seen.
Today marks the 1 year anniversary of this series, and with it, the remembrance of how wonderful it was, and the homage to its legacy that it has left for aspiring KSP'ers everywhere.
today marks the 5 years anniversary of your comment
By the way Scott, the clouds aren't compatible with RP-0 according to the RVE dev so it's not just you having problems
kendokaaa what's RP-0 if you don't mind me asking?
I haven't come across that.
+MrMartGonzo It's career mode for realism overhaul.
Scott Manley
Ah! I see Thanks.
I've been finding workarounds for RO, and the first manned "pod" (plane pod)'s bug doesn't carry over to later aircraft.
As for the fairing bug, put the science experiments before the nose cone and then put the nose cone. Works perfectly :)
kendokaaa I was having issues with clouds with KSPI as well. I had to cherry pick parts. There was another one im forgetting about. But I cherry picked until it worked with compromised parts selections. Kind of a headache but, now it works! I wonder if RO is the same way. Though I am sure picking parts from it would be totally defeating its purpose.
Don't blame you for starting this, it must have been hard to Kerbal your enthusiasm.
Fantastic - a new series of yours to loose myself in! Judging by the look of that new tech-tree, this is going to be another lengthy series, too :)
Hazard-ish unfortunately that techtree says nothing. if you have the community tech tree it's gonna be that big.. for me a lot of it (especially the end bits) are empty. I know Scott probably has a lot more part mods installed so it could have filled everything but you can't judge that by the amount of nodes
i'm a subcriber of yours
+Monster mix without proper grammar
+Monster mix *Scrubscriber*
"loose" yourself into a grammar book fam
I would suggest calling this series Serious Business (or SRS BSNS for short). Because as we all know, that's what realistic KSP is.
+Sky Render I like that, I think we might have a winner.
+Scott Manley Seriously, if there aren't any other suggestions then I'm going with this.
"The Real Deal" "Kerbal Space Race" "Kerbin meets Earth" "Realistic Space Advancement" just a few suggestions
This is a snippet in Scott Manley KSP series history!
Hey, Scott is launching off rockets near my house! Sweet
Stormtrooper MK-97 Hey, Scott is launching off rockets 9500 km from my house! Sweet
Stormtrooper MK-97 Hey, Scott is launching rockets 7410 km from my house! Sweet
Stormtrooper MK-97 Hey, Scott is launching off rockets ! Sweet.
+Snaiper Suji Mayne wut
Hey, launch is Scotting houses near my sweet! Rocket.
"Planey the Younger" Oh my lord that's the best pun I've ever heard
I was yawning and then this video popped up, i think my lungs have imploded
also "The planets rotation will carry it out of the way of danger" Scott talking about the communists in Cuba? it would probably caused some havoc if you launched a rocket at them going at 1000m/s
I think he was just talking about it being better to land a rocket in the ocean than on land, as potential civilization/wildlife in the way would be exploded by the rocket.
I think it was on course for the Bahamas actually
What about coral and marine life...
Obviously, they don't matter as much.
FrisianGoron I'm pretty sure the rocket won't do that much damage to the marine life
I have watched this series like 4 times now. I just keep coming back to it. The idea of RO/RSS is so cool to me. That along with Scott's style of gameplay just makes things fun
Glad to see more KSP from the master! You were my "GO TO" guy in my early days of this game. I fell in love with Kerbal and even purchased several copies for friends. I still fondly remember my first docking in orbit around Kerbin. All of this... because I found your vids on YT. Thanks for all of the time you invested doing tutorials and such!
I just recognized that interstellar quest ended when the kerbonauts discovered the warp drive and flew to earth. The new series starts on earth so technically that's a resumption of interstellar quest.
You just made my life worth living.
Oh. My. God.
You are a genius.
+Fred Heil It's a reference to this as well ua-cam.com/video/08VHWTGgfgA/v-deo.html
+Fred Heil It was implied too with the weird-men-landing-talk
Suggestion! Just "Serious Business"
It's simple, and kinda silly, so it's all good.
I've been waiting for this since Interstellar Quest.
How awesome is this channel! i get to hear a narrator (Mr.Scott Manley) that sound exreamly similar to Carl Sagen, and get to teach my nephew about Physics, Astronomy, Aeriodynamics and the history of science!
please keep uploading this series!
Wait, why are there Russian kerbals in the American Kerbal Realism Overhaul Space Program? Or is there a secret Russian launch site in Florida?
You see nothing, understand komrade?
The Soviet Union invaded the USA in Cold War. We just haven’t told you. Until now.
Americans finding that out: guys get your m16s
FINALLY YOU SCRUB. I've been waiting so long for this.
MOD LIST MODLIST MODLIST MODLIST!
Did you even watch the video a few weeks ago showing how to download them?
lisa lavergne see I did but ckan doesn't work for me. I always get an error like 90% through the downloads
+Jon Deal I get that too, but if I re-try them, I get them the second time around. Like clockwork. What has been downloaded on the previous attempt is still there, ckan just grabs the remaining parts and then installs everything. It almost always takes 2 tries for me.
lisa lavergne Link plz
lisa lavergne Gimme that link!
If Scott is watching hello it's Ryan just here to say hi I haven't seen you for a while since you live in America and I live in scottland
Hi Ryan!
You're not Ryan, I'm Ryan. You're Charles! :)
But.... But I'M Charles...
+Scott Manley is that your brother Scott ?
"mysterious green men landed in Africa with a ship that can warp space and time"
very nice touch, I'll be waiting for the kerbals from interstellar quest to be making cameos as ufos/crew
I did not get the "planey the younger" joke when i watched this 5 years ago. Im glad i got something out of the cultural heritage class.
Glad to see that Kerbals have survived and thrived in their new home following Interstellar Quest! :D
Hopefully this series will be able to teach me enough about RP-0/RO/RSS so that I can finally give it a shot!
Thanks Scott!
All of my hopes were realized when you said "I haven't done a series in a long time... I just want to start doing something regular." Oh how my dreams have been dashed on the cold, hard rocks of twinkie powered death stars and iOS apps ported to PC...
Maybe it's a problem with electricity? Like for some reason the control pod isn't storing the electrical charge, so things like flaps and breaks and such can only work when the engine is generating electricity.
+Lord Cottington 13:30
James Nguyen I don't think he's right. I think he needs to put batteries on or something because if you look at the bottom it goes from green to purple which is what happens when you run out of power. Look when he cuts his engine at the bottom left.
+RomulessI From my personal experience with a similar plane, the issue is there from takeoff, and the Bonanza cockpit has a stored charge like any other, so it should have the power it needs at that point at least.
And besides that, I highly doubt any power draw by the flaps would be high enough to immediately drain the cockpit's battery when, for example, you've been running the engine full throttle for a few minutes then cut it to zero. The flaps still cut out when you do that, but running the engine at full would fill the cockpit's battery pretty quickly meaning you should have enough charge to power the flaps when you subsequently cut the engine.
I think it's just a bug to be honest, wherein the flaps are somehow unintentionally connected to the throttle, but that's just a theory.
A Game Theory!
...sorry
Lol that ol' scientist's voice there Scott, IT WAS PERFECT! Haha (23:24)
Holy shit. That planet graphics on the menu screen! WOOOOW! That looks mindblowing.
I watched this in high school. Memories.
I call all my 'semi-stock' career modes _"The Right Stuff"_. This play surely qualifies! Can't wait to see Kuck Yeager in the next episode.
Yeah, was waiting for a series again. Your Interstellar Exploration series was the reason to subscribe!
Especially the fact that you played without reloading, quicksaves and so on :)
Good luck Sott! This'll tide us over until 1.10 is released.
And don't worry, we've all been eagerly awaiting a career-mode playthrough (not counting those tutorial series you made) for so long that we're happy even if you don't include a dozen extra mods.
Scott Manley proving once again that he is indeed the Kerbal Space Program master.
A alternate title "KASA Space Race"
Making Kerbin Earth-sized is the first thing that springs to mind when you say "realism".
Yes!!!!! Finally I've been waiting for this for a long time!!
Planey The Younger? Nice. I was introduced to Pliney last time I was in CA, both Younger and Older. Very much enjoyed.
Great to see you're starting this. This will definitely give me inspiration for my next 652 hours of KSP.
I have no idea why you were doubting your ability to ramble for 3 minutes, I pretty much watch all your videos because you are such a good science rambler in the first place~
Scott Manley FINALLY! I waited for this since the end of Interstellar... The first episode was fun already!
7:00 to 9:00: You spin me right round, baby, right round, like a rocket, baby, right round, right round.
Well now, i just found a new channel and an interesting series to watch, lots of explanations included and that means lots of popcorn included, nice! ^^ Great video, great details, good man. :D
Finally! The series i have been awaiting! Im almost inclined not to watch it... So i could wait untill its finished, then watch em all at once...
12:10 "the only engine we have is the derwent"
Scott. I am disappoint. I saw that Continental right next to it on the parts list. What problem do you have with using prop planes? The Continental is more than capable of completing that altitude contract, I've used it myself to hold altitude at 4km for survey missions.
+Tanya Sapien Did you use it recently? People have serious issues getting planes off the ground with the prop engine, I get a couple of messages every week about the pain of flying with that prop.
+Scott Manley im glad you started this series. i really want to get this game, but i cant justify the cost of $40, even though i know the game is great.
Blox117 ITS ON SALEEEEEEEE
Scott Manley I was using it literally yesterday, newest version. You just have to watch your AoA and stall velocity.
in all fairness I am using stock aerodynamics, so it is possible it isn't balanced for the realistic aerodynamics, but what peeved me is _that you just glossed right over it_. a "yeah we have that engine, but it's broken right now" would have made me much happier.
+Tanya Sapien I had a whole livestream where I repeatedly failed to get it to take off. 1.8kN of thrust is less thrust than the stock Ion engines.
Planey the Younger. Cracking me up. Don't fly any of its relatives near Mt. Vesuvius.
oh man, please release these as much as possible. love it.
OMG the cockpit of the Beechcraft Bonanza (yeah as Scott said ^^), I "have" one of this at the aircraft club I'm licenced !
Lol scott trying to nuke cuba.
minihjalte I think you mean the Bahamas. Either that or you should take high school geography
+Nick Woodruff high school?, that can be learned by just looking at a map of North America
***** He did say "trying" - it could have just been a truely abysmal attempt. Which would be little comfort to the people of Freeport, admittedly
+minihjalte I mean, when Obama said he was planning to reopen relations with Cuba I didn't think he was going to do it by having Scott Manley kamikaze a rocket into Cuban waters.
He is using late 40s tech in this video so its safe to assume its the year 1948 or something back then Cuba was a US ally.
Ah finaly the long awaited Realistic Playthrough is here ! Maybe the game is broken and buggy by the sheer amount of mods burdening it, but this is the game mode we all wanted, It will be much greater fun trying to visit our moon, our planets. As the series is named "realistic", i hope you will attempt to copy real history as close as possible in the game. It would be not only fun if we could relive history, but that would be also highly educational !
Plany the younger. Well done. That's the best thing I've heard all week.
I loved the arrow fletch style of your rocket fins!
Yay new series.... not fan of the time to build things, but let see how this goes.
Hopefully we'll do a manned landing on venus (lol I doubt it) or a space station near the rings of Saturn, and mining outpost on Titan.
Whatever it is, good luck Scott !
When Soundwave I went into the ocean, I couldn’t help thinking about the fish. Poor, poor fish( sniff) You made the fish sick!!
Hey! Regarding the controls lose when throttling down the engine, KSP has this weird mechanic where Engines generate electricity and when you run out of electricity you can't control your craft. You might want to check the electricity counter and see if whenever you throttle down you run out of electricity as this might be your problem
For those who don't know, the Derwent engine is based off of the Rolls-Royce Trent series of engines, named after the river Trent. Rolls-Royce is based in Derby, which the river Derwent flows through.
Ah, the sound of his surprise when he thought it was 182 days, but then realized it was 1824 days. The cheer in his voice.
Hey Scott, I'm a big fan of your videos both from KSP and the more science oriented ones.
I'm excited about this series and hope you continue it, as I coincidentally just started my first attempt at Real Solar System/Realism Overhaul/RP0. Looking forward to the first orbit episode as I'm still at high sounding rockets.
Teach us, Obi-Wan.
PS, 'Planey the Younger', brilliant XD
I've followed your other series before, and while they are pretty cool, I hope this series runs for a while.
I like how the rocket was like a high speed dart when it was dropping back to Kerbin.
21:10 "Let's hope that I don't break it"... *breaks it*
Great to see you back on another series!
So, do you have a list of all these mods? I'd love looking at some of these, especially the realistic parts.
Hurrah, at last another series to get into. Looking forward to this, it's a toughie.
Awesome video, looking forward to part 2!
i know its kinda late, but maybe that bug with the engine being off has to do with hydraulic pressure for moving the control surfaces, so when the engine is off, there is no hydraulic pressure to move them.
Yoooo! So glad your back into a regular series!!!
Woot for another play through, looking to be an interesting new pack.
So excited for a new series!! I suck at actually playing the game. Much more enjoyable to watch you play it.
So happy for this series Scott! Been waiting for it!
FINALLY!!!! I MISS INTERSTELLAR QUEST SO MUCH OMG
IT BEGINS
Can't say I'm anything but excited for this one! Good luck. Try not to crash too much.
I'm sure you voice could keep us on the edge of our seat for hours, nevermind 3 minutes...
I was so excited to when I saw this was out, to the point I literally dropped what I was doing (it was only faffing on my tablet, it landed in my lap so don't worry) and started this video...and now it's buffering for ages :(
Great first episode, looking forward to the next one!
Kerbal space program: *proceeds to take half a year to research 2 things at the beginning of the test tree.*
I spilled Sprite all down my shirt while taking a sip when I saw the title of this video. WOOHOO FINALLY!!
I'm glad to see you're up and running, and I'm looking forward to part two. I had thought about building a RO installation, maybe these videos will convince me.
Perhaps you might use 'The Kerbal Space Race' as a title?
i can say the "realistic playthrough" will be perfect
Love the series so far! I just hope it will not get cancelled prematurely due to bugs
Awesome!! It landed right off the coast where I live! Jupiter! Kerbal FTW! Scott FTW!
From Camp Pendleton, CA. Just saying hello, and thank you for all the amazing videos. You an unhealthy of science fiction have gotten me to pursue my degree in astronomy.
0:38 I love how he pronounces zero
I'm really hyped for the new series!
+Scott Manley Could you please give us mod list?
Yay! Dude awesome. I love watching your seriesssssssss.
FINALLY another Scott Manley KSP Playthrough :) Looking forward to an epic space program :)
8 years ago in history, Scott Manley inadvertently started the Cuban Missile Crisis.
21:54 says "Insufficient Avionics, Locking Controls", but on the other hand the "vessel" mass says 94 kg which might be referring to the pilot on EVA.
You should call this series SMASA (Scott Manley Aeronautics and Space Administration)
lol I love that callback to interstellar quest
I'm liking this so far! I'm excited for part two. :D
Awesome!
I was looking forward to this series.
I hope the devs fix all these bugs soon, maybe the publicity will urge them to work on their mods.
Yay! Ever since your tutorial on how to install all this stuff, I got REALLY interested! I tried it out, but it kept crashing on my computer. :( I'm really excited for this series! Thank you for sharing!
+Onychoprion27 HOpefully KSP 1.1. will fix a bunch of the memory related crashes (without adding too many other crashes).
My body is ready for some hardcore KSP gameplay. For science!
Awesome :) I've been waiting for you to start another series!
I've been waiting that for so long ! Thanks Scott, we're about to fly safe now :p ( Sorry I practice more KSP than English )
These mods look very attractive! I did a RSS + Interstellar series a while back (goal: man on mars), good memories!
Yes, new scott series! also I missed that haunting fast forwarding VAB music
God, this made me want to revert to an older KSP and get an RP-0 game going, thanks Scott! :D
YEEES A NEW SCOTT MANLEY PLAYTROGH!!!!!!
HYPETRAIN!!!!
