I like your 8 inch dob videos. A lot of people has them and do not consider them as capable of doing Astrophotography without a tracking system. You covered the two key elements. First helping people understand fundamentals of camera settings when doing Astrophotography. Most people don`t take them off auto. Second you can use a dob with limitations. The moon is close enough to take good photos even without stacking or processing. The moon is one of the most photographed objects in the sky. You can see details in the craters. Sometimes it rotates more of the backside of the moon . If i want raw one click photos i always come back to the moon. I am glad i found your channel. Good job.
I recently got a 8inch dob because of your videos and i am now seriously considering getting a Star Adventurer to get into astrophotography. Keep the videos up.
Finally, a new video, I have been waiting after I saw your post on Facebook. A good video as always 👍 and I love your background music too. You always choose the right music for each video. That's why I enjoy watching your vdieos so much.
Welcome back! The 8" dob is nice all around size. I used my phone to take a photo for the first time of the moon. Fun to share with others. Keep it going! Love the moon photo.
I saw a nebula shot once where the person edited in a way that gave it an almost 3D feel, with the nebula seeming to hover above the star field. Your moon shot gave a similar feel. Very cool work! Thanks for sharing. I am just getting started in astrophotography, and glad to see what other people do. It is appreciated, as it helps me work on a hobby which has been getting me through these tough times, too. Thank you!
The whole 3D thing is really cool. It's definitely a method I'd like to start playing around with. Thank you for watching, and glad you could find some inspiration here!
You make me regret selling my Dob. There’s a very simplistic, and natural, feel to a good Dob that just isn’t there with all the complex setups. I feel like far too many people overlook the Moon as a good target. The Sun also. I’m glad you got a break away from the stress from the current situation. It’s very taxing indeed. Cool stack. You got a lot of detail. I like the Moon against the stars. Ever consider motorizing the Dob? Anyway, I hope you have many clear skies.
While I do love my imaging rig, nights out with the dob are so relaxing in comparison heh. It's funny you mention the Sun as well because I have been looking into solar imaging recently with my Z61! As for motorizing, I have given it some thought. But I think if anything I would go for a larger motorized dob first :p Thank you for watching as always man, cheers!
Skywatcher's dobs are by far my favourite dobs. I really like the colors and the finderscope is great. Having a 8inch dob like that is amazing. I've got a 10inch Skywatcher dobsonian though
Oh yeah, the HEQ is still going strong. I've mainly been practicing so I can get better with using it and post processing my images heh. It'll be making a comeback soon... long as the clouds work with me :p
Hi, great photo and channel 👍, on another topic, what would be the best camera settings, canon dslr, on an 8 inch dob to photo a comet if doing a 2 second exposure at night or evening? Comet NEOWISE
That's a tough call for me to make really. Funny you mention this because I'm planning on a shot at Neowise this weekend as long as the clouds work with me. From what I have read, it's a pretty bright target. So my thinking would be a good low iso. 2 seconds should be more than enough! Good luck!
Thank you for taking the time to do these videos. You give lots of good info, and motivate us to stay up late at night! (I want to see more pictures of the dog and cat!).
Have you ever thought about using a dedicated astronomy camera? The reason I ask is that I ordered a SvBony SV105 and I have been searching hi and low on how to use it in my 8" Dob, to no avail.
Really liked the video! Love the 2 final images and the video at the beginning. I wasn't that impressed by the Barlow lenses. The reason I say this is that I don't have one yet but was thinking of getting one to get a bit closer. Not if they made the video so soft though. Not sure what to do now:)
It's great to hear your voice again. It's a nice break from all the crap I'm being fed through the suggestions that have came my way. You don't even have to post anything. Just hearing your voice and seeing your face face helps me get away from this shit show that's been going on that gets me twisted inside calms me, aside from the beautiful images you show. It is good to have you back is what I'm trying to say.
Appreciate the kind words 🙏. Times are strange for sure. Just gotta do what we can to stay moving forward. I’m working (slowly) I more stuff for the channel, so stay tuned! Clear skies and good vibes my friend!
@@AmateurAstronomyStormchasing Any time I hear from you I get excited because the amateur shots seem to show the effort that goes into this. The narration, yours especially make me fell like we're buddies. Thank you for that.
I know very little about telescopes The views through the camera were beautiful If i was looking through the eyepiece without the camera would it look as good
Great video! I have an 8" dob too and noticed that you seem to have yours on a table to raise the height slightly? I'm looking for one which is sturdy but portable. I'm not sure if you can recommend one? Keep up the good work!
what is max usable magnification ? I have a NIkon fieldscope ED82 I want to adapt to use astro EP's. I know it can be done. Currently it has 75x max zoom that enable sight of saturns rings and jupiter with all the moons. Just a little awkward to use compared to telescope but I'm hoping I'll be able to get 90* bend in like astronomy telescopes there is so much to know about this stuff
I'd be reaching the upper limit of max mag. at ~400x. Heh sounds like you have a pretty fun project to work on there! Good luck with it and clear skies!
Hey... I really enjoyed the video...and was very impressed with the pics you obtained... I had no idea you could see so much through an 8” Dob.What could I see using that to view the planets and galaxies?
Seeing the Moon through an 8 inch gives me a reasonable estimated benchmark for my 4.5 inch. Looking forward to the Aug 25th half moon. NASA did an incredible 3D photo shoot of the Moon - which is something I’ve been working on myself with spherical depthmaps.
There's a lot of shills on here. And I've been watching your videos since the very beginning you started showing them. I have a question for you concerning the moon and the moon's light. The moon's light seems like it comes from within the Moon your thoughts? I'm an amateur telescope as well I absolutely love it it's changed my perspective on how I see a lot of things
I bought the same telescope, and last time i found first time Jupiter, but it was totally bright, i couldn't see any details..(of course i saw 4 moons) can you tell me why? Should i buy something more, or i will see more when i will drive to better location where is less light?🤔 sorry for my English 😂❤
How are you able to achieve focus with that setup? The only way I can achieve focus with my dslr + orion XT8 is if I use a barlow, but that really reduces the field of view. The XT8 seems to have essentially the same specs as yours so I don't know how it is working with yours, unless maybe the camera itself is behaving differently to mine. Nice video though ;)
I screw my camera straight onto the telescope with the t ring instead of using a t adapter and inserting that into the eyepiece. I’m not sure if the XT8 allows for this or not. I have another video on my channel showing just how I do this! Just search for my How To Attach DSLR to Dobsonian video! Hope this helps.
@@AmateurAstronomyStormchasing Ah I see. The stock focuser doesn't come with this: www.amazon.com/Orion-5117-Adapter-Crayford-Focuser/dp/B000YPR28E which is needed to screw on with the t-ring. That being said I'm pretty sure I've held the camera as close as I can into the focuser and minimum focal distance, and still couldn't achieve focus. There might be a couple things I can try though and if they work, then I might need to get one of those.
So im liking all of your beautiful views of planets and im trying to also get good images but i have only a 2inch telescope with a focal length of 600mm and a objective lens of 50mm. I would love to get a bettter telescope and i stumbled upon the Celestron 114AZ Newtonian Telescope Do you think its good?
Great channel just subscribed. I have had an 8" skywatcher with an EQ3 mount for about 8 years now and hardly used it. Our weather in Wales is usually rubbish even though we have dark skies. I have just bought a used Skywatcher dobsonian mount on Ebay. Great condition and will be far quicker to set up. The only problem I have is that I will have to drill the tube to screw the mounting rings on. Could you or someone else tell me the exact measurement from the bottom of the telescope tube to the bottom of the ring please so I know just where to mount them thanks!
We’re your individual shots all sharp? I had a go the other night with my dob and camera and just couldn’t seem to get a sharp focus, this was my first time shooting through a telescope. I’ve had better success with just a lens on my camera. I’ll try the multiple shots plus stacking next time though, looks like fun!
Yeah they all came out pretty good! I spend A LOT of time trying to get my focus just right though. I finding using the live zoom on the camera and zooming way into individual craters helps me get a tighter focus. Good luck!
yo the exact same thing happened to me when I was watching through my 8 inch at like 11 pm. I was looking at the moon and the clouds started to come over until it was totally blocked :/
