I'm so glad Mr. Truck is back. I hope you keep him as long as he's willing to do it. The weigh safe hitches are a game changer. If I was pulling a trailer regularly, I would definitely get one. Great video guys
I just watched a video about a week ago, where a guy in Alaska drove this exact model (Chevy HD 2500 Trail Boss with the 6.6 Duramax) from southern Alaska to Prudhoe Bay. Great vid by the way. He had installed a Titan XXL fuel tank with 63 gallons. Titan also makes a 43 gallon tank for the 1500. Both fit perfectly with no modifications needed. If I ever get that 1500 GMC Sierra AT4, with the 3.0 liter Duramax, that tank is the go to move for sure. 1200 mile range at 30 mpg. Road trip! Road trip!
@@mikecarmean1676 Legend? He's like a 10 year old kid. Always asks the dumbest stuff, always says the same stuff. Worst personality on YT. Andre bring back the blonde lady. At least she's more personable.
I have a 2021 3500 Denali and tow a 44ft triple axle toy hauler and the weight ranges from 18500-20000 depending on how it's loaded. I tow in Florida, Georgia, and Alabama mostly for camping and usually get 8-8.5 in my truck. 70-72 on the highway. Truck is bone stock. Unloaded at the same speed is 17-18.
My 2011 F250 6.7 came with a 28 gal fuel tank. Now that is small. I added a 50 gal tank in the bed so now I have 78 gal onboard. That's 700 mile range towing. Makes my wife beg to stop before I need to refuel.
Diesel weighs about 7 pounds per gallon. So that adds 350 pounds plus the weight of the tank. Not a huge impact compared to the plus side of less stops.
Great Video! Seeing these trucks hauling close to max load is great content. Most guys buy these trucks with the intention of hauling close to maximum. Seeing these truck responded well as far as power and steering boost my confidence in my truck! Now I know I might add airbags if I get close to towing this weight other than that. That looked easy on the truck! 😄
Id like to know what semis are getting 7 mpg or more. Ours get around 4 or 5 loaded. But then again we're around 100,000 all the time with 500+ hp trucks.
GM needs to up their fuel tank size. The 1/2 ton trucks are now 24 gallon tanks! My Dad bought a brand new 1996 F-150 base model and it had two 16 gallon tanks. He loved it! Especially for those who tow, the 3/4 ton should be 40 gallon option at least. A 1 ton chassis should be 40 gallon standard with option for bigger. The long bed has plenty of room for a larger tank.
I have the GMC At4, the mirrors are great for towing, however they need to be about 3''s lower. They create a horrible blind spot out to the front left.
I love your guys videos but I own a 2019 3500 GM with the 6.6L. Diesel engine don’t get good fuel mileage until about 60,000 miles or around that. I have 70,000 miles in my truck and I didn’t start getting good fuel mileage until around 55,000 miles. I get now around 20 MPG not towing on the highway averaging 80 MPH. And sometimes I get even around 22 MPG with no hills.
wow. My 2024 AT4X HD diesel I get 11 in town and 14-15 highway. Overall 400-450miles from full tank of fuel. Whoever claims better is full of crap or drives only downhill with heavy tailwind. My deleted Denali LML averaged almost 200 miles better from full tank
Please explain how you use cruise in a panick stop on a mountain? I literally just got rid of 2 23 duramax trucks. You can't even tell the exhaust brake is on. My 2 24 powerstrokes are quite a bit better, but my 22 Ram is the best. Then on top of it the duramax mpg is the worst.
@joshszydel8202 for simple grade braking it works absolutely perfectly in cruise control I have a 2024 and it's absolutely perfect at maintaining speed downhill in cruise. "Panic breaking" also kicks it in full tilt, his complaint was about it not just immediately braking when getting off the gas, these won't do that , it's not how they're programmed
It’d be interesting to see the MPG of the Ford and Ram comparable trucks, towing the same trailer. Another test would be the same Chevy, but limit the top speed to 60 or 65. That stretch at 74 must have hurt the mileage. Thanks for the video!
This is why pretty much every commercial hot shot you see on the road is a Dodge due to fuel efficiency. Dodges and Fords are cheaper to buy, and the Cummins let's you keep more profit. 12mpg or better with a 40' gooseneck fully loaded is the magic number.
I think the comparison to the semi fuel economy isnt quite fair. Put that load inside an enclosed trailer with some aero fairings and youd get 10.5-11 with the truck. And if you pull 2 pieces of equipment on an open flatbed trailer you will absolutely not get the 7 or 8mpg with the semi.
I had a 2022, I thought there was an exhaust brake gauge if you scrolled through the center screen where you check like your def fluid and stuff like that. My 3500 I got rid of would only avg like 8 mph loaded. I went back to a Ram after that.
@between my dad and I we’ve had like 4 of the 5th gens, but honestly I don’t like to keep them past the warranty. I keep a car to keep the miles off mine other than when I go to rodeos.

Of course it is illegal to drive barefoot, but you are spot on with your thinking.

So there was a 2500 ZR2 before a trailboss? Seems like a backward move. Y’all should do this same loop/load with the 2500 zr2 to compare, if it can even handle that much weight.
No offense, you probably don’t tow heavy or in remote places. When you’re getting 7mpg you burn through fuel quickly. Also, many gas stations are tiny. Even though you’re low on fuel, you’re unable to stop at many stations when pulling a large trailer because you simply don’t fit. An extra 10 gallons can get you an extra 70 miles, which could be huge and lower someone’s “range anxiety.”
What's the scaled rear axle weight with that load? I use my L8T 2500hd as a hotshot and with all of my gear and an empty trailer that leaves me with only 900 lbs of load capacity.
