One of the best "showcase" interviews not just on this channel but that I've ever seen - Pebble's CTO was willing to delve into so much detail, and is clearly very intelligent, experienced, and passionate about this product, and Kyle matched him to keep diving deeper on the details. Hugely impressed, hopefully the actual testing is even half as good as this.
I've seen a lot of videos about this RV. This is the first one that goes into great transfer and the type of motors. Keep up the great geeky work. Can't wait until you can play with one for real
These kinds of videos do such an incredible service to upstart companies like this. He's clearly very passionate about his project and has really put his heart and soul into it. Helping him get exposure could easily be the difference. Well done.
Thank you Kyle for fantastic review, so far no other reviewer gave us so much information and made so many right questions. You sold me on Pebble. Going from Lightship to Pebble. Advantages are: Magic connection, electrocromatic windows, lower weight to be able to tow with SUV, one button integrated levelers, plenty of storage, good sized fridge, multifunctional oven. The negatives are just 2 wheels, low inner height, flimsy table, less battery, less water. Great to have competition in this field as well. Team Pebble: congratulations on great product 👌👍👏🏻
@@alsheremeta Certainly another "axel" or bogey could be added as a "tag" axel, Could be a "quad bag" air suspension like a '73 GMC motor home, but why? "Dumb" old fashion single axle trailers do have some stability issues, but, you may have forgotten this is a "software defined vehicle". Single axle stability can be achieved with electronic stability control. Why add all the extra weight and expense, when better results can be achieved?
Love how you got to nerd out with Dr. Stefan Solyom the CTO. Shows he really cares and understands the product. He also seems to reciprocate how much you understand about the typical problems with certain solutions. Good in-depth dialogue and was fun to watch.
This is how you know the one writing the comment is German, Doctor 😂😂😂 I'm Swedish, investors look at Sweden, not Germany. Our country is run like a Musk company, we are efficient, quick, quality, without German bureaucracy.
I don't know where they get the 7 day number, but it should be able to do much more. I ran a '21 18RRBL trailer for 3 weeks in the desert with 10kWh battery bank and 2000W solar. Could've gone longer but the limiting factor was water.
34:21 exactly! I’m towing a 2004 popup that really hasn’t changed tech wise in 20 yrs with a 2023 EV that can “guide itself” to the trailer and can power it for a week!
Love the progression as Stefan starts to realize that Kyle gets it - all of it. My husband and I have been considering Pebble vs Lightship. Watched this - put in Pebble reservation 😊
Thank you Kyle and Stefan for the in-depth video of the new Pebble Flow. I've been following the progress of the Pebble since day one, and I'm very impressed with the close to final product. You have literally thought of everything. Looking forward to the road test by Kyle and the team. It will no doubt be awesome! I really enjoy Kyle's honesty in every review of new products in the EV and now, RV world. P.S. Kyle, thank you for saving me $2,000 on our new 2025 Model S Plaid through Tesla's Referral Program. The process was simple and I really appreciate the savings thanks to you! Cheers!
Been waiting for a nerd-out look at the Pebble for a while! Great in-depth look and I now fully expect a full camp with dogs and now maybe a couples camping trip for maximum awkwardness!
Kyle sounds like he knows more about the nitty gritty electronics of this than the CEO lol. I love it. And I love the way Kyle pushes him to answer things like traction control questions. Something that most people wouldn't think about but something that we care about.
I think there are some specs the CTO doesn't want to divulge, probably for good reason. However, he's loving that Kyle figures them out anyway. LOL. That makes for a very fun, dynamic interview!
@ indeed. Like motor type and motor power are totally normal things to not disclose for competitive reasons. Especially with that other brand that they just interviewed launching soon as well. I’m sure Kyle will figure out some way to get us the nitty gritty specs on those motors. I’m sure he’s not above putting it on a dyno 😂 proper OOS research.
275/70R18 tires have a max load rating of 3,640 lbs. So both tires are rated to carry a total load of 7,280 lbs. GVWR of the Pebble is 6,800 lbs, so at maximum weight the Pebble is using about 94% of the tires GVW rating. Standard practice is to not load tires beyond 85% to 90% of tire load rating. This is even more of an issue in a two wheeled trailer that has no spare tire on board. So you have the equivalent weight of a 1/2 ton pick up supported on two tires, that are also drive wheels. In my opinion the Pebble Flow should have 4 tires with tire ratings sufficient to support the weight of the trailer at no more than 85% of the total tire rating.
That thing looks awesome. If I buy it right now it'll be paid off before I retire. It seems expensive for a RV, but its less than half the price of a starter home here and no property taxes. I have accepted I will never own a home. So I for one am grateful they are giving me exciting options for pods to fade away in once my body is no longer worthy of exploiting for labor.
I feel these EV RV companies are missing the mark. They need to be designing an axle/battery package that they can sell or license directly to the mainstream RV manufacturers. The price and features are never going to be competitive if they are designing their custom RV layouts themselves. Most large RV manufacturers order their axle packages from a axle supplier. How great would it be if they could order an axle with motors and battery and then design the RV from there. The mainstream RV manufacturers generally know nothing about electric motors and battery technology but they know how to design efficient and inexpensive RVs with slide outs, proper holding tanks, features, etc. You don't have to re-invent the wheel here! (pun intended?)
They're not after the masses, they're capitalizing on the rising popularity of outdoor recreation / RV camping "upmarket" and appealing to people with LOTS of disposable income (like R1T/R1S owners). These have high end appeal and won't be cheap to own. Imagine how expensive even a small amount of damage to that fiberglass exterior would be to repair...
That's a great idea, but I don't think having this solution is inherently at odds with that nor a bad idea. There are lots of things that you can redesign with the knowledge that you have batteries and propulsion that aren't going to be addressed in a conversion. Ultimately, if they can prove that this type of propulsion idea has legs, that's a much better place to start licensing negotiations and/or sourcing the other stuff from than just hoping the entrenched players will notice me senpai first. Hell, it's a better package for acquisition too.
Making the whole thing themselves let's them capture more value, they get to own the entire experience, and the market is bigger. They can always fall back to selling axles and components.
It's almost all about aerodynamics, that's also fairly light when you've consider it has two electric motors enough 50 kilowatt hour battery. Also the modern RV industry is a total joke, this is comparable to an airstream.
They may wish to add an optional mosquito netting for the awning area so you can use the "Inside/out" space in the evening when mosquitoes are bad. It could be velcro or magnet attached to the open awning creating a space outside protected from the bugs and still allow the kitchen window to be open.
Amazing video. When Kyle first did a deep dive of the Rivian r1s, the information impressed me so much, that I ended up getting an r1s. I’ve known about pebble for a while, having put a deposit down a few months ago, but Kyle’s deep dive with Stefan was enlightening. I am looking forward to being a Pebble owner
Great in depth review. I’m a huge fan of all the OOS channels. You didn’t give your comparison of the two EV RVs. Are you going to do a comparison video?
Great walkthrough, love that is not highly edited content, thanks. You seem to know your stuff so it build confidence in the review. I subscribed because I want to hear part 2 when you tow and experience it.
The Black tank size is gonna truly be a huge hold up for most RV buyers. We have a 55gal black, and it’s good for 3-4 days with 2 adults and 2 kids… It’s typically 2-4gal per person, per day, for black.
So much about the Pebble is cool, but I don't see how that rear inside area is going to work except as a bed. If you're using the screen projector, I couldn't see even a semi comfortable place to sit and watch--are they thinking people will be on the bed with big piles of pillows on the shelf to make sort of a back rest? Also, if you have it in desk mode, you need a chair, and there's no out of the way place to move the chair when the bed is down. A very collapsible stool is the best I can think of, and don't find that appealing. Curious to see what other folks think.
Nicely done. Most comprehensive tour I’ve seen. Only miss is black tank. All black tanks suck. Would like the option for more fresh water and a dry flush toilet. I have a little experience with Laveo and so far so good. Power fresh air vent? Integrate cell /wifi antenna , router? Starlink ? Hot water system? Fresh water disinfectant system (Ozone system seems to work)? Radiant floor heat would be cool. Maybe integrated with battery conditioning. I hope the promise of quiet AC is true. RV manufacturers have a poor definition of quiet. Tv watching looks uncomfortable. Looks like a hit, well done.
Look forward to your towing test. Hope to see how rv motors affect efficiency on gas and diesel vehicles in addition to EV. Especially in the ‘charge rv “ mode.
I can book sooooooooo many Air BNBs for this kind of money. We used to tow a 32ft trailer and we enjoyed it but to be honest there is just no point financially. Our last trip to Texas, Mississippi, Florida and Costa Rica were all AirBNB and it was wonderful.
On another video by Pebbles, they stated that you can disengage the drive system on the trailer while towing and charge the battery while traveling. It would work ideally with an ice engine or long range ev pickup like the Silverado. And Kyle the table slides in all directions so there is plenty of room to enter the seating area.
44:15 - Please, for the love of all that is holy, add an ability to open it simply and easily from the exterior _without having to use a device app._ If I'm boondocking where there's no cell service, I don't want to have to deal with Bluetooth or WiFi connection flakiness and connecting to the trailer, just to open an exterior door. Same with the "one touch self-leveling." I shouldn't need to use an app to do these things. (He implies a couple minutes later that the self-leveling may at least be possible through an exterior button.)
That price and bed to desk setup is EXACTLY what I've been looking for. I like the thought of a van, but having a normal car to go around town once I'm at the camp site, is a more attractive thing.
Kim Java just put out a video on this trailer with the CEO! She actually towed it with a small suv. Very impressive on the driving characteristics when the motors were engaged and not engaged. The battery actually charges while being towed when the motors are disengaged. Ice truck or Silverado with more range would allow the battery to charge while being towed or use the motors going up hills and then charge going down hill. The options are numerous! You can regulate how much water you use when you are not hooked up to a water supply. It also has a special shower head to regulate the water.
I would like to see a Mini- Pebble around 2500 pounds, slightly narrower, no rear bed, just a front convertible dinette, kitchen and a rear wet/bathroom/shower, slightly smaller battery, good for the Mach E, ID.4, Tesla model Y, and the other small compact electric SUV's, should come with some cost savings too.
34:57 he’s right. I really feel like they “get it”. There’s a lot here that shows they just get the average camping and off grid living people want. Especially with an EV. Offer an affordable financing option and long term warranty. Seriously I can see myself living in this as my main home as a digital nomad that wants to live down by the river.
Around 33 mins you asked him about the powertrain and it was the one question I had really, which he didn't answer, was how does it know when to use the motors vs regen, and how much. I feel like you need a direct (electronic) connection between the two to work properly.
A weight sensor on the hitch will make it work correctly. So the hitch can measure if there is pressure on the car from the trailer, or if there is pressure on the hitch from the car pulling the trailer. Another thought is to use a OBDII port to plug into the towing vehicle, and then use the car's electronics to show throttle position or braking. Also the trailer knows when the brake lights come on. There is also a type of thing that can measure the acceleration of something. Like if it is speeding up or slowing down.
Much more practical way to set up an RV trailer than the Lightship - the potential for a disaster with the roof lifting system of the Lighgship is very high, here it is nil.
Wind turbines are not all they are cracked up to be. I don't want to camp in a area with 25 MPH winds to make the turbine work correctly. Even at 15 MPH wind, that is not a ideal location to go camping. Below 15 MPH, the wind turbine is not effective. Yes I saw a guy camping at Quartzsite, and had a 400 watt wind turbine in a 20 MPH wind. So in 24 hours, that can provide 9,600 watts of power. What do you do once your 400 amp hour 12 volt battery is full? That is only 4 KW of storage. And if you have a 400 watt solar system, it will fully charge a normal 12 volt battery each day by itself. Yes I have lived in a RV with only 330 watt solar system for over 2 years.
Very cool! Great tour and lots of interesting information. These guys clearly care greatly about the quality of their products. I’d be curious with such tight software integration what would happen if they don’t succeed as a company and the software isn’t maintained. Will things gradually stop working for customers?
We have developed inside out, outside in - it’s wonderful… yeah its called an open window 😂😂😂 A lot of marketing fluff but hey fair play they’ve made a decent effort. Hope it goes well for them
Very nice Trailer and awesome video. I am limited to a 19.2 foot in length do to my garage. I have a Scout Terra on reserve. Also considering a Silverado EV Trailboss. Looking at a trailer that is under 19ft long with folding tongue called Exodus Capax. It is a hard sided pop up for a lack of a better phase. My question is the Exodus Capax is 7,500 lbs loaded which is heavier then the pebble but 4 feet shorter which one would do better for range on ev tow vehicle?
What about screens for the open windows? Lots of bugs when camping. And the opaque window setting is great, but what about a blackout mode for sleeping?
Will be interesting to see if they do an auto setup at some time. Centers in the lot, parks far enough back where all the utilities are ready to connect, auto levels, etc .
Great tour Kyle. I'm looking forward to your own Testing of the Pebble. My BIG question is flat tire with hub motors. That could be a significant issue and I'm guessing something like a nonpowered wheel tire for limp home that could be externally mounted but that's a big ass tire/rim that would be ugly and affect the aero.
I would like to see Out of Spec test towing the Pebble with the Lucid Gravity. It looks like the Pebble CEO & Lucid CEO are on the same power efficiency page.
The interior layout is remarkably similar to my teardrop travel trailer, just slightly stretched in length, and obviously more headroom in the bed area. If the price on this drops under $100k, I'll be getting one. Edit: Dang. Just got far enough into the video to hear the tip-to-tail length of 25'. That's *ONE FOOT* too long for my garage. My 24' teardrop *JUST* fits, with its tail *touching* the back wall, and the garage door _JUST_ cleaning the hitch by about two inches. I love parking my teardrop in my garage, as it means I don't have to winterize it, I don't have to store it off-site, so I can just throw my clothes in and go camping. Pebble, make one a foot or two shorter in length! Maybe shrink the bathroom ever so slightly. Also, I should note that CNET did get to tow one around at CES. Can't wait for you guys to get it. (And TFL to do an Ike pass towing test with it!)
@ Because solar doesn’t provide enough to keep it warm to avoid needing to winterize. Keeping in the garage means I don’t have to winterize. And there is a window next to it that is enough to keep it from draining.
@AnonymousFreakYT given that this rv has its own built in HVAC system, couldn't its hvac system keep it warm if necessary? Plug it into your house so it can put its excess power from its solar into your house when it has it, and draw down power from the grid if/when it needs to keep itself warm? And drain out the water and stuff before winter? I'm just spitballing here because i don't live in a hard winter environment so I don't know what else winterizing might entail. Just seems like a waste to put 1.1kw of solar inside a garage.
@ Can’t just backfeed solar into the house, that takes transfer switches and other equipment, and it wouldn’t produce enough to matter. The water tanks aren’t fully insulated from the outside, so would still freeze in extended cold snaps, even with interior heat on. Garage can get below freezing, but barely - its internal heat _is_ enough to keep from freezing in the garage.
High 5 video cant wait for your picking up trailer what happens when no more juice going to drive motors as you are motoring on highway or up mountain i would think regen still work .
It would be neat to see a comparison of the total KWH consumption(tow vehicle and RV) between towing with and without the RV using its battery to move it.

Single axel is a big mistake, I would never purchase a travel trailer with a single axel.
Until we get a perfect trailer we are not going to be alive. I agree with your assessment, but I just placed my order.
@@alsheremetaeven if the second axle was passive, forward of the active motorized axle, the trailer would be much more stable…

For anyone else wondering like I was those are Goodyear Wrangler Workhorse HT-LT size: 275/70R18. They cost $286 each on the goodyear website.
275/70R18 tires have a max load rating of 3,640 lbs. So both tires are rated to carry a total load of 7,280 lbs.
You could set up a star link for satellite internet
You could do many things, his point is having an alternative of not using Bluetooth/wifi which can be a hassle.
That price and bed to desk setup is EXACTLY what I've been looking for. I like the thought of a van, but having a normal car to go around town once I'm at the camp site, is a more attractive thing.
notify me when they have a small rv for the model Y.
That is so interesting best setup i have seen amazing wow
Wow great video making me want to get one
dang Kyle this is sweet, and in dept, now to cough up the170K, wow awesome podcast Pebble should be a killer
Great review champ excitingly interesting towable RV
Double thumbs up.
They should call this one rock, and call the mini one the pebble
I need one of these 😮
The table slides! Cannot believe he did not know that!
The interior feels like one of those smaller like 39 ft yachts
Saw one on side of road near Big Sur or Carmel around July 4 holiday. Think it was being towed by Rivian!
While at CES I checked out both Lightship and Pebble. Pebble seemed like a better product to me.
Wow made for EV’s 😊 a wind turbine and expandable solar roof would be nice
I love living in times when $100k trailer is "Not too bad" 😭
Exactly when he said $150k not bad for that little thing
We have developed inside out, outside in - it’s wonderful… yeah its called an open window 😂😂😂
A lot of marketing fluff but hey fair play they’ve made a decent effort. Hope it goes well for them
Trans America road trip with both!😂👌👌👌
tis be my house
Very nice Trailer and awesome video. I am limited to a 19.2 foot in length do to my garage.
I have a Scout Terra on reserve. Also considering a Silverado EV Trailboss. Looking at a trailer that is under 19ft long with folding tongue called Exodus Capax. It is a hard sided pop up for a lack of a better phase.
My question is the Exodus Capax is 7,500 lbs loaded which is heavier then the pebble but 4 feet shorter which one would do better for range on ev tow vehicle?
That synchronised laugh a minute in
🇦🇺🚐 awesome question and answer! I am a full time grey nomad, and the Pebble has more functionality than I could have ever dreamed of.
What about screens for the open windows? Lots of bugs when camping. And the opaque window setting is great, but what about a blackout mode for sleeping?
Need this to Norway also.
In Sweden 🇸🇪♥️ pull thru Tesla chargers is everywhere. Why not?
It’s interesting, the Lightship is only 2’ longer, but at least from behind the screen, it feels much longer than this
Think this is a better and more traditional travel trailer with great upgrades.
Lightship AE.1 is 26ft and Pebble Flow is 25ft. Floorspace is almost identical. We've spent a great deal of time in each. -Producer Tim
Cool.. but bed is too small. Hitching up is hard? Weird comment. That is interesting being able to back it up to a charging station. pretty cool.
Will be interesting to see if they do an auto setup at some time. Centers in the lot, parks far enough back where all the utilities are ready to connect, auto levels, etc .
what a nice guy
Why would you put this in your garage when it has solar on top of it?
Next revolution in battery electrics are campers absolutely #solarolla 😊😊
It would be neat to see a comparison of the total KWH consumption(tow vehicle and RV) between towing with and without the RV using its battery to move it.
was wondering if they would be building a model for the Australian market?, lokos awesome
