The clock is the story-teller. Notice how the Clock chimes in relation to the emotional situation of the story.
How did I come up with the story?
Early 1950s.
My maternal Grandpa was a Post Master in Kuala Pilah. When he retired, he bought a 3-bedroom single storey house in Kuan Woh Yuen, Ipoh.
In 1956, I was in Standard 1 Anglo Chinese School, Ipoh. When my father was transferred to Taiping to work, in order to not disrupt my education, I lived with my grandparents in Kuan Woh Yuen. In 1957, I was in Standard 3.
Grandpa had a clock in the living room. This clock had a swinging pendulum and chimes as well. I always felt that the clock was watching what was happening to the family.
Grandma took me to the movies. We went for walks in the neighbourhood. She also bought me sweets from the Ting Ting Man, an Indian vendor on a bicycle with a square glass box filles with yummies at the back. I felt the clock was watching. I had a great time.
After seven decades, the memory of this clock is still with me.
Now I would like to transform these happy moments into a song with delightful stories.
