  • This video is about market gardening in Southeast Alaska, including harvesting Eazyleaf & Salanova lettuce and comparing the two varieties, and comparing baby chard & spinach for use in salad mix and discussing harvesting techniques; in the greenhouse, transplanting a second and final batch of basil following lettuce harvest and, out in the garden, transplanting the sixth and last batch of the main Salanova lettuce crop after pulling out bolting spinach; checking growth status of the first planting of basil in the other greenhouse and harvesting from a row of orach there for use in the lettuce mix; later harvesting out in the garden for a second cut of both Salanova lettuce and baby chard for the lettuce mix; seeding soil blocks with a seventh succession of Salanova, a third succession of green onions, and a second try at cilantro, although they might all be too late to be useful; waiting until Friday to harvest other items (garlic scapes harvested to sell for the first time this week) because of uncertainty about final orders coming in on Thursday, which fell on the July 4 holiday; weeding & hunting slugs at pac choi bed ends; and running drip irrigation in the greenhouses a number of times throughout the week trying to keep soil moist during sunny days.
