  • This video is about market gardening in Southeast Alaska, including noting basil germination and moving them under lights in the house and later noting that a few pansies in the same trays are finally germinating; managing Salanova lettuce successions by slowing down an improperly timed seeding intended for a second planting, and seeding more flats of soil blocks intended for a third planting; prepping garden beds and transplanting out kale, collards, mustards, lettuce, leeks, green onions, chard and bok choy; also noting germination out in the garden of baby chard, spinach, mizuna, and later carrots, plus the clover undersown beneath sugar snap peas plus orach germinating in the greenhouses; hand-seeding more baby chard and Jang-seeding more spinach & mizuna out in the garden then broadcasting microclover under the beds of kale, collards, and mustard plus broadcasting New Zealand White Clover into two more cover crop beds and hand-seeding a second succession of sugar snap peas into one of those beds; covering transplants & seeds with Agribon to keep out migrating birds and other pests such as root maggot fly and spotted cutworm moth; trying out new clips to secure row cover to wire hoops; harvesting orach, spinach, mizuna, and pac choi from the greenhouses; and it appears that white crowned sparrows are in the garden this week after fox sparrows departed last week.
