Check out the young From the Top cellists playing with superstar Joshua Bell in this cover of the Beatle's tune "Here Comes the Sun"! ua-cam.com/video/NQPBBsawGTk/v-deo.html
12 years old with an other worldly mature tone. Getting the notes down & the melody to speak is one thing but producing them so they strike the listener's being is a whole other thing. Gifted.
It's always makes me smile to see such incredible classical musicians in more accessible places like this. Reading the description, it's so true that a lot of people don't realize that classical music is still very much alive and thriving. Thanks NPR for bringing some wonderful performers into the spotlight!
I played the violin when I was little for like a week. My neck and arm got tired from trying to hold that thing up for so long, i was so over it. She is very talented!! All of them
Um WOW that clarinet player was making me cry with his piece. He was a little nervous but then he up and SLAYED all over the place. The chello player was doing good too. I love the project with kids he’s doing. And the violinist as I stated before... WOW WOW. TINY DESK you are settling us all ablaze! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥just killing it! Thank you!! 😭😭😭😩😁😁
ghostie7790 Javier is an incredible performer isn't he?? You can see him on another music video (and a little interview) here: ua-cam.com/video/XvUCAa8txXI/v-deo.html Enjoy!
So marvelous! I heard young Kaia on From The Top Nevada playing Hot Canary which absolutely blew me away. After watching several adult performances of the same piece I realized Kaia has the absolutely best interpretation.!
Simply outstanding! Well done to all these young musicians for the incredible work and talent they have showcased here and thank you Tiny Desk for another moment of pure musical joy :)
Awesome performances! This really made me question why I've been hiding behind excuses to not practice music anymore. Something out of topics: the pianist should become a broadcaster or something. That voice is soothing
Amazing performances from young musicians, and classical music to stir the soul (and counteract the tarantula poison!). Who could ask for more? I love that the Tiny Desk collaborated with From the Top for this. From the Top is truly a gift to the musical world, just as is Tiny Desk.
Another wonderful choice by NPR music. Im glad to see these young musicians get a chance to shine and to inspire other young adults. Cant say I understand the dislikes on the video. These online trolls are already doing their job or its salty clowns who wish they had an ounce of these young people's talent.
Eric Cohen Letting young musicians shine is what we do! For more, check out this video with two young From the Top performers performing with Joshua Bell! ua-cam.com/video/NQPBBsawGTk/v-deo.html
Soooooo much talent! This inspired me to get back to the clarinet (the first piece I want to learn to play again is The Tempest) and piano, and to learn the violin (again, gotta replace my "play play" violin first so I can actually tune and play it properly) and cello like I've always wanted! This was great! So young and so bright! Keep it up guys! Now for another listen, again"" "From The Top" (repeat LOL)!!!
Melissa McIntosh So glad you were inspired! The clarinetist in this video was also featured on another one of our videos. Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/XvUCAa8txXI/v-deo.html
Had no idea From the Top was still around. I watched it a lot growing up, completely jealous of all the talented acts they'd have on there. It wasn't just classical either, I remember a young Nikki Yanofsky did some nice jazz standards as well. I need to try to catch more of the recent performances.
Ghostface GZA We're still around! :) Check out this video of a young pianist performing Bach with a tap-dancer: ua-cam.com/video/ObEqrZhDjCc/v-deo.html. You can also listen to all 355 episodes of NPR's From the Top on our website at www.fromthetop.org/listen/ Enjoy!
"All the music is considered" your slogan prays. After listening From The Top's pieces, I sincerly have to recognize how deep you fulfill your pretension of considering all... as for hearing it, I initialy pondered it implausible, YOU MANAGED: fond. Congrats tiny desk!!! A note for sound engineer. Reaching that profound sound from a vertical!!! Man!!! Perhaps a detail no everyone gets to notice, but is high quality indeed.
Made me want to pick up violin again. Not that I’m getting to that level in any reasonable amount of time. Schedule just won’t allow for the dedication that she has clearly put in.
OK, I looked her name up....the violinist is world renowned.... super protege..she has played many famous music halls as a headliner....so nice to see her on Tiny Desk...
This still might be my favourite rendition of Julie-O to date. Its so hard to continue the flow of music through some of those sections , and he does it.
Bravo! While listening to their young performers, my heart became dynamic and hot. And after the performance finished and 4 people appeared together, I got goosebumps! Regrettable thing I felt in the third performance: I felt I should have prepared a grand piano, not an upright piano.
Think about how many hours -she- they have practiced in total. It makes me wonder if I could be that great at something if I effectively put that much time in something.
10,000 hours is the going meme, i think thats practice for 3 hours a day, every day, for 8 years or so =) not so bad if youre doing something you love.
onion456 lol, 3 hours a day is pretty mello. As a former music mayor, you'll practice about 4-8 hours a day easily. Guaranteed 4 in classes, and you'll easily grind out another 2-6 at home. If you wanna count listening, then you're stacking on more.
That violinist is 12, smh. I don't think I could be trusted to fry eggs at that age. Tiny Desk is the gift that keeps on giving.
you made my day! ahah
i wouldn't trust her to fry eggs either 🤨
Tiny desk is just 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥flamin the place UP

i was frying eggs by 7-8,
but i wish i was learning to play an instrument instead.
Noah on that cello is also brilliant --- all of these young musicians are extraordinary! WOW!!
Yessssssss he is my favorite. I cannot stop replying his part over and over. Such a gorgeous song he chose

This is in my top 5 favorite tiny desk
Refreshing to see young virtuosos doing their thing.Another great one tiny desk 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙌🏾 Peace and Love
The cello piece gave me chills ✨
Yes. The cello stood out the most to me. Should be in a movie. D:

Had to check the playback speed just in case I left it on x2. The speed and precision is incredible !
absolutely breathtaking. the final sonata brings tears to my eyes and this whole set is stunning.
the clarinet piece got me teary and shit. seriously good stuff
Wow - loving your spectrum NPR
So marvelous! I heard young Kaia on From The Top Nevada playing Hot Canary which absolutely blew me away. After watching several adult performances of the same piece I realized Kaia has the absolutely best interpretation.!

shit stuff yeah totally agree with you
Right????
The description says From The Top is a podcast. Maybe he already is.
I was JUST thinking that. He's got that gorgeous soothing "NPR voice" lol
How professionally they are play! Beautiful!
Amazing performances from young musicians, and classical music to stir the soul (and counteract the tarantula poison!). Who could ask for more? I love that the Tiny Desk collaborated with From the Top for this. From the Top is truly a gift to the musical world, just as is Tiny Desk.
Thank you, Steven! :)
The clarinet, wow, all of them are just incredibly talented.
I had to hold my breath watching this. wow. just wow.
She is only 12 years old and shredding the shit out of that violin!
I may as well just give up at this point...
A notorious member of the Thugs Comment Society.
She’s amazing for her age but she needs to vibrate her chords and develop a deeper sound
These kids are so talented! Wonderful performance
Clarinet ❤ beautiful Javier.
They chose some fucking awesome pieces
I'm a long-time From the Top listener and supporter. Great to see these kids on TDC!
FiddlerSteve that's fantastic thank you so much! ❤️
Thoroughly enjoyed this!!
I completely respect and appreciate Miss Kaia's violin, but that cello was just amazing. Sorry winds, I'm a strings kind of gal. :)
Skills, talent, precision, emotionless play to send a lot of them, then, when u shake off first emotions u see them too. Music for my soul.
What a talented bunch. I hope they keep practicing!
Nathan Hallow Us too! :)
Damn, these artists are amazing. Just amazing how passionate they are about music!
The amount of genius and practice that must've taken😍 Both of them are so talented!
very refreshing to see this from tiny desk! thank you npr ❤️
Ty. This was so nice to see and hear this morning. 07.04.18 ♥️

From the Top I will watch more of their performances. Thanks for the reply and for all the fine work you do for these young musicians.
Bravo! Impressive at any age.

Would love to see/hear these 3 collab and perform a piece together.
Made me want to pick up violin again. Not that I’m getting to that level in any reasonable amount of time.
Schedule just won’t allow for the dedication that she has clearly put in.
Pure talent. Beautiful sound👌🏽
Chance and Francis and the Lights will kill it in the Julie-O beat. This is dope.
Never thought I would see a solo clarinet piece on Tiny Desk! I love this series.
Loved this! Great talents!

Holy, this is LIT!
Wow she is EPIC.....
That cello song was definitely interesting and enjoyable. As were all the pieces, but that one stuck out a bit more to me.

This still might be my favourite rendition of Julie-O to date. Its so hard to continue the flow of music through some of those sections , and he does it.
