One of my fave moves. This always worked for me in real fights.
Thanks for watching!
Certainly does! I used this in the schoolyard as a fifteen year-old after only having seen it in a book on Judo. Same for collar chokes - had never done them in real life, but worked a treat. You really can teach yourself stuff out of a book, it worked for me.
@@SaveWesternCivilisation Same and I never learned judo this was natural
Does it actually work nogi?
@@richardgomez1151 well yeah its a wrestling move as well. Although in wrestling they do it in one step.
Thanks Sensei! Way break down my faaaaaavorite throw. Great refresher!
Thanks for watching!
You guys are actually amazing I learnt few throws and trained on them with my brother and mastered them. Look forward for training this one to add to my takedowns
Its hard to imagine you've been able to master techniques if you've just been training with your brother - we always recommend that our videos are used to supplement your training under the supervision of a qualified Judo coach - not just to develop understanding of techniques, but importantly for your and your training partners safety.
Thank you I've been failing to do this throw in randori now I can :)
Thats great! Thanks for watching!
Thank you I’m getting ready for my green belt and I forgot this
Good luck on your grading!

This is my fav take down I use often in bjj.
It's a great technique!
It’s an amazing technique something out of a movie
Thanks u sir🙏

I was taught to straighten the right leg. That's maybe why I never got beyond Yellow...
You just need to find balance with your drop. It's not so much about thr exact leg position, as making space for the hand work.
thanks

I’ve been afraid of doing this move since my teammate hyperextended his knee taking a tai Otoshi in a tournament. What’s a good way to avoid hurting uke when planting the fulcrum leg?
1. Tai-otoshi is about controlling the space between uke and tori - the only contact needed is the hands. 2. So you don't need to be making contact with uke leg in any way, no leg contact, no knee injury. 3. A lot of people teach doing a pop with the leg to get uke over, but its not needed and increase the risk in injuring ukes knee.
Agree with Efficient Judo. Sometimes, keeping that slight gap between the legs of Tori and uke is difficult in a fight though, so drill making sure Tori leg crosses uke's well below uke's knee. This stops uke's foot from being trapped against the floor which is when this damage happens....
Very nice
Thanks for watching!
This is one of my favourite move but could you maybe do alternative grips aswell
Have you watched our competitive variations video?

The few times I have practiced this uke has landed with a lot of all body weight on my right leg making me very worried about getting a knee injury from this throw. I know it’s hard to say what I am doing wrong without seeing me, but is this a common mistake?
@desr2395 It does happen to beginners sometimes. Sometimes, it is just a bad uke trying to anticipate the throw. It's hard for me to say what you need to improve on but pointing the knee downwards can make this safer for you, so they won't collapse your knee laterally.
hello what do you think is the best throw for a leaned forward opponent BJJ/wrestler
It depends - BJJ practitioners often stand square, sometimes weight forward, sometimes weight on their heels. If they are stood with their weight forward, throws like uchi-mata work well. If they have their weight on the heels (even though they may be bent forwards), simple kouchi / kosoto (rear throws) should be used.
Against a good wrestler its a different game, they will generally be in more of a split stance (one leg forward) with better posture than BJJ practitioners. Assuming they are wearing a gi, use the grips to keep them away from doubles and singles, you can still use ashi-waza to threaten and set up your main throws, its as much about making them play your game than saying X throw is the best one to use against them. I hope that helps!
thanks very helpful comment @@EfficientJudo
Ankle picks. If you know how to pull the leg to you or control their posture.
Control your rhythm, your tie up, and your setup. The takedown will come.
tomonage. it prevents gving up your back
I don't wanna shake hands with Tyler anymore. His full name is Tyler Otoshi.

If your interested in just seeing the throw - check out our demo videos - we've got videos of all the classic throws with no talking or instruction.
Hello I am new
Thanks for watching!
Why not hip toss? This looks like if he steps over your leg in nullifies the throw.
Its a completely different throw - sure a hip toss could work, but requires you to lift the opponent, commit your hips deeper, more risk of being countered by a big pick up etc. Tai-otoshi just a different technique, its down to each person to find what works best for them and understand the situations then they would be used.
If he steps over the leg he is in prime position for uchi mata, in addition, tai otoshi is one of the fastest throws, being just slightly longer than the sweeps
Sorry ale stopa cofająca Tori powinna cofnąć się do stopy lewej Uke. Taki szkolny błąd.
I'm not sure if I understand you correctly, but Tori is circling around. Tai-otoshi is about managing the space between tori and uke. If Tori moves is his next to ukes left foot, then their torso will be blocking uke, preventing the technique.
Good video but the volume is a bit too low.
Thanks for watching! This is one of our early videos and we worked on improving the sound over subsequent videos.
It's like uchimataing both legs
Uchi-mata is very much a leg throw, where the action comes from tori leg. Tai-otoshi is a hand throw, the leg postion of tori is just to allow themselves to get low enough, the throwing action comes from the hands. The mechanics are very different.
@@EfficientJudo wow thanks for the reply love the channel and thanks to it no one in my bjj class will stand against me
@Kyle Blevins I'd say take a look at our judo for bjj video too! We've tried to provide a whole strategy that can be used in that one video, including getting your grip and throws off that grip.
Anyone else here because of John Danaher's post ?

Drop seio nage, harai goshi, tai otoshi
Thanks for watching!
Buy or mic or increase volume somehow
Thanks for the feedback, this was recorded in our first ever recording session and we released this video 5 years ago - we made major improvements since then.
No sound?
The audio is there - just quiet - it was one of our first videos we released and have been working on improving our audio quality.
@@EfficientJudo oh okay, my system isnt very good so I didnt notice. Btw really enjoying your tutorials : )
The lapel mic received ogoshi

Tai-otoshi ?
Yep, Tai-otoshi.
You really dont need to block the outside leg just forces your body next to him and bring him on your back place his weight on your back and throw
except thats not a tai otoshi
@@markrobertson3015 then what do YOU call it !!! Its on his title video
what he is demonstrating is tai otoshi, what you suggest is not tai otoshi. if you dont block the leg its not tai otoshi
If uke is on your back, it wouldn't be a tai-otoshi, it would likely be seoi-otoshi.
muita enrolação
why do you think that?
Niby fajne ale słabe bo kurde psycha siada jakbyście nie mogli szybciej mówić jak to się robi ;-;

@@EfficientJudo Ummmmm yourwelcome ?
to dobry rzut, choć nie dla wszystkich najlepszy (przepraszam, używam Tłumacza Google)
Wow
Very poor instruction. First rule Always Full demo at speed conditioning from approach with opponent.
Next break it down without dialogue. At this stage only positivity don't show the wrong ways at all. If student isn't shown wrong way then may be not think it. That is for student coaching individual.
This black belt is a beginner and this video is not good training video. Very poor standard.
