Dai Aoki's Ne Waza is a work of art

- Dai Aoki is a Japanese male judoka who competes in -60 kg weight category. Aoki is a rare example of a male judoka with a purely Ne Waza based style of Judo. He is far from the most successful judoka's, but he is undoubtedly one of the best ground specialists in modern Judo.

When Dai Aoki starts attacking from top he has options to flip over to pin or directly to arm bar for submission, what a genius judoka
Always amazed to watch the top guys. They are fighting against the best Judoka in the world. He only does a few techniques but does them all so well. Everybody knows what is coming, and they still can't stop it.
This dude's a complete grappler. Love to see it.
This guy is dangerous with his tremendous skills as a judoka.
AWESOME, he's displaying the side of Judo that we don't get to see much, control grappling, most enjoyable to watch tyvm, I will certainly follow this skilled practioner
how come we don’t see that much of it? I haven’t watched that much judo but i’ve almost never seen submissions like this
@@joeysung311 IDK maybe he's an exception or specialist, I've noticed in many sports there are unique athletes who have been different and that's what make them stand out champions, just my opinion ( a martial arts practioner and fan )
@@ogckrow5227 Learn something new everyday, thank you very much
What an incredibly talented judoka. We haven't seen this kind of judo in a while. ❤
I though Japonese are very strong before but they are not successful in MMA.
@urimtefiki226 There are a lot of factors, but I wouldn't make the conclusion that the Japanese are bad at MMA as they were one of the founders, and they had some tremendous athletes in the past. Right now, they've had a dry spell in talent, but things could change in the future. Who knew there would be a chinese heavyweight boxer that would knock out Deontey Wilder. Sports keep evolving with talent from all over the world.
you mean grappler...in the first minute in a half he's done no judo....just pulled guard and submit his opponents.
@amckay2266 you know, in my stubborn younger years I'd probably say the same, but grappling came from Judo, and it is the gift of God. Judo is the best 💪🙏
@@amckay2266 This is part of Judo
Thank you so much for the video.
Thanks for watching!
that's pure Judo !!!
TOTAL RESPECT 👏
Hi, I am not familiar with judo techniques, but his stile made me think of a boa constrictor. Impressive. Bravo
It's more used in Jujitsu than normal Judo.
Wonderful wonderful wonderful
This is beautiful
I love BJJ, but I beleive this is what ground fighting should look like. Yeah, a little rough and not too technical maybe, but so is the fighting in general. I just can't see BJJ's slow and methodic rolling as safe for a real-world application. I'm not saying You can't finish someone swiftly with BJJ, I just love Judo aggression.
This is nothing compared to BJJ ground game though. This judoka got away with so many sloppy techniques just because their opponent doesn't know even the most basic BJJ white belt defenses against them. BJJ is methodical because it needs to be, against opponents who actually know how to escape these positions.
@@soggie7157 judokas ragdoll BJJ black belts in the UFC tho, we've seen it multiple times
This video just shows the importance of BJJ.
Many times the opponent doesn't know basics escapes.
I love both: Judo and BJJ.
@@soggie7157bs, give a time stamp and explain the sloppy technique.
I'm sorry but that doesn't make any sense at all. The reason it's rough is because that's how judokas tend to work in the ground, shaped by training (focus on takedowns obviously) and competition rules. BJJ is methodical because it only cares about ground fighting, why make it rough (more "realistic"?) when there's no need for it? That's what it looks like when you know what you're doing. Sorry if this isn't what you meant but the way you said it it sounds like you think BJJ should be rougher because that's more realistic, as if being less technical and more desperate is somehow gonna make things better for you, whether in real life or in competition. Sounds insane to me, sorry.
how did I just discovered this guy?! it's fucking madness
Totally miss this…..
That huizenga roll/reverse omoplata was absolutely sick.
So effective and brillant. Pure techniques.
merci pour le partage c'était genial !!
Incredible ne waza.
This dude is a Phenom!!!
Honest question, how much time are the referees allowing a judoka to work on the ground until they get (or don't) the submission, or the pin?
As long as progress is being made they will let you do it for as long as it takes.. but if the other person defends successfully for maybe 5 seconds they will stand you up
Amazing! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🔝🔝🔝
Legs that reach and contort while feet that grab…amazing.
When dude stood up and he was hanging on his arm ....that was epic
Very powerfull techniques, I like the quick achievement, it seems it succeed any times!
Physical strength superiority, balance and agility, in succesfully countering the attacks, methinks.
Beautiful
I know dozens of guys whose newaza is just as good. But their tachi-waza is nowhere near as dynamic. He throws with newaza in mind. I really think what sets his game apart is his dynamic Tachi-waza that sets up his newaza so well. His opponents are scrambling to defend because he launches into his newaza before they have time to settle and tuck things in after being thrown. His throws leave them with arms open and before they do anything about it he pounces.
No you don’t. Aioki is a 3 time IJF GP medallist, including a gold.
You do not know “dozens” of people with better newaza
@@tsak912 Actually, I do, absolutely. I have nothing but respect for Aoki, so don't misinterpret my comment. I am more disappointed in how the rules of judo have been changed, primarily due to entering the Olympics, to minimise the use of newaza. It's the rules that lead the techniques in any event. Aoki should enter one of the big money newaza-focused events like ADCC or the one-off CJI event, where even one victory gets him $10K, and the championship gets him $1m. If Aoki did decide to compete in one of those, I am sure his training would change to deal with the new set of newaza rules he'd have to deal with. He's a realist. If you argue his focus is not money, I'd be somewhat cynical, then I'd suggest he compete in the BJJ Worlds where he can fight in a dogi with a rule set that is closer to judo. He might do really well. And I'd be barracking for him.
I agree with you on the Olympic rules and how that has “changed” Judo.
Still don’t think you know dozens of people who have better newaza but, that’s just my opinion.
Thanks for the polite reply, cheers to you
@@BudoTraining could be that he knows little about heel hooks etc., I doubt he has trained them considering the Judo ruleset. Besides, he makes better money in Judo probably and CJI is nogi, totally different beast
You know loads of people who's ground work is just as good...no you don't, shush.
He's top level Judo player who will train with the best in the world.
You obviously have no understanding of what these guys go through.
Thank you for always awome vidoes! 🔥 Could you make Akimoto hirouki vidoe?
Thanks for watching, I'll think about that.
Genius. While most judoka focus solely on throws, he focuses on subs. They cant defend it well because they are not training grappling defence.
awesome newaza!
He reminds me of Flávio Canto's style/approach. It may be something innate or a direct influence, but who cares? Newaza is beautifully working again.
I just commented the same thing
@@MakeBlasters2024 Wise man 👌

Any relation to Aoki Shinya?
Was thinking that , kinda looks like him
👍🏻🤝👍🏻
What is that roll he does? It looks like some sort of kimura or americana or something(sorry i dont do bjj). Also is it only legal for brown belt and up?
It is a reverse omoplata. Basically a Kimura done with the leg.
genius
I will see a fight with a very good bresilian Jujitsuka, there will be amazing

What we are doing is truly just Judo no more no less.. as Jiu-Jitsu practitioner
Isn't this wrestling more so than judo??!!

they do BJJ for grappling bro...not impressed with your lack of throws....grappling on the other hand is phenom.
Wow, judo changed a lot since i practiced it. Looks more like Bjj to me
I do not know what you trained, but ne waza amount decreased during the years rather than increase in judo, so it is rather the opposite. We were seeing much more of this in the past.
So, unfortunately you didn't train in a good Judo dojo.

The music is horrible :(
It's really good. But apparently not good enough to be useful in Olympic Judo and to get into the national team.

No. This is 2016. No fouls there.
much easier when your opponent is always wrapped in a blanket tied with a bow
It is more Brazilian jiujitsu … not judo
I love it 💪🏽🔥
This is part of Judo, pure as it should be trained. This is a complete judoka
His doing bjj
What happened to the rules of Judo??? I haven’t competed in 20 yrs, but this guy is more of a BJJ guy and the refs give him all day to work on the ground, with out even having a hold established??? This is like when they removed leg attack takedowns, totally changes the sport.
What are you talking about? It's actually the opposite. Allowing time to develop work on the floor is how it should be. Sadly not always refs allow for it.
@@SoldadoPatoso Like I said, haven’t competed in a long time. But when I did, I was at the national and international level, and in the 90’s you had 3-5 seconds on the ground to establish and attack a submission. Per the referee criteria, I am assuming that has changed? As far as ground work being allowed, Judo is a throwing dominant sport, yes they have ground work, but the focus is takedowns. If you give a competitor a ton of time to work on the ground, you open the door to turning it into a BJJ match. Don’t get me wrong, l like BJJ ( won the us open in 95 in BJJ ) but it’s a different sport, would prefer to see Judo stay throw heavy, as in the past. Just my 2 cents.
Almost a bjj guy. Super cool!
Almost? I suppose a good 95% of bjj guys would have a very hard time with this athlete on the ground
@@gabrielepicco3582 Same kind of athelete, same level (world tournaments...)? No, i'm not that sure . Different sports. Judo and bjj have totally different times, rhythm and strategy. So you think you can compare a professional mma guy with good boxe with a professional boxer in a boxing match? no dude...
Good fights but its in the most corrupted part of the world
