- PLEASE READ THE MANUFACTURERS COMMENT BELOW! IT IS PINNED! I messed up when I made my comment about the quality of the aluminum. I took for granted that a friend of mine had legit information, and didn't fact check it while editing. I am sincerely sorry.
Nice job on the vid Owen, Thank You. just a couple notes, i use Aircraft Aluminum 6061-T6, definitly not cutting cost on Materials. I also changed the inserts that come stock from WFB to APS 95a for better rebound. Also Riptide made new molds on the Kores and they have a better fit now.
Thanks for the reply! Good to know, I should have checked my sources for materials. I trusted someone else who gave me that info and that was wrong of me. I’ll see if I can add a note in the video.
That’s all great news, I’m glad to see y’all taking those steps to improve.
I sincerely apologize. I strive to be fair in my videos and this was a big oversight. Y'all didn't deserve that. I pinned your comment and made note of it in the video description.
@@owencampbell777 they are not low cost trucks. But if you compare them to Valkyrie Voxter, yes they are one step under concerning aluminium quality. Dont Trip Cybin are 6061-T6, while Valkyrie are 7000 grade series aluminium. I own and ride both. And yes there is a noticeable difference. Now It's completely justified by the huge price difference. Dont Trip Cybin did cost me nearly 350 euros for a pair, meanwhil Valkyrie Voster costed me 600 euros for a pair. Depending on your budget, you will have two beautiful products. Now the Cybin aluminium tends to get small scratches much much more easily. And regarding the specs and the price, it's normal. I think I will make a professionnal surfacing polish to my Dont trip trucks.
Wow, I haven’t thought about longboarding in years, or touched a board other then my trusty Dinghy I keep in my trunk. Brought me back to the silverfish days, ‘twas a simpler time.
Great review. Definitely lots of pros and cons to consider with all the adjustment options. I've tried Mollys and Slalocybins briefly. I don't think trucks with insert bushings are for me. Ended up going back to Valkyrie Mk3's. Simple, consistent, and high quality.
Mollys hardly turn, I’ve never liked them. Slalocybins are a little niche for downhill stuff. Wouldn’t hurt to try a more modern insert bushing truck
To pop out the insert bushing i just get a little bit of vegetable oil and dab a little in there. I give it a little wiggle, then give the hanger a little pull up the kingpin. When i push it back down it usually pops out first time. Sometimes a lil wiggle is required when pushing the hanger back down. Then i just whip all the oil out and clean.
Great idea, I’ll give this a try. Do you use Venom inserts?
I run the D.H. Cybins currently have been for awhile. Your review is absolutely spot on for how my experience has been with them.
That’s great to hear, it’s always a relief to hear others had similar experiences
Timestamp 29:10+ you discuss wheelbase length, but Paris and Ronin aren't as 'short' as you reference (1"), and DH Cybins aren't as 'long' as you reference (2.75") In actuality, both Ronin and Paris add 1.75" from bolts to axles and DH Cybins only add 2.125". So, a total difference of +3\8" which, although agreeably longer, is fairly negligent. (For ref: both my Ronins and DH Cybins are at 50⁰\20⁰, and the Paris are at 50⁰\50⁰ - but even if Paris had a 20⁰ baseplate, it wouldn't subtract maybe max .25" from it) (Note: I only looked into this because a friend said he'd quote: "Never buy DT trucks because they add so much more to the WB!" and referenced this video)
Another sick video man, you genuinely make unique content that the DH community needs! I’ve recently got some mollys and was wondering if u know how those compare to the dh cybins?
Mollys are slower to turn, they have less rake. They were designed a long time ago, so they feel a little outdated. That’s not to say they’re bad, I think they can still be great trucks. The times I tried them, I’ve opted for higher angles than I would usually skate and looser bushings.
@@owencampbell777 Yeah I’ve definitely noticed they don’t turn lol. Currently running them at 73/78 front at 50, 93/95 back at 25 and it feels decent. I’ve never gotten to try any other precisions so I had nothing to compare them to
I can't even see that bushing seat it's so shallow! I'm an old geezer at this point but my buzzed trucks swallow the entire small diameter of a riptide chubby no problem. I've just been getting back into the gear reviews and stuff mostly for nostalgia but it is WILD to see these modern set ups. I've ridden boards that were like an extra foot longer and trucks that no joke were double the width of some of these modern dh trucks. I can just about recollect P-Swiss talking about running slalom set ups for Maryhill but people thought he was crazy back then. I really wanna make retrospect doc on how the dh scene and the gear has changed the last 20 ish years.
Great review! how do you think the Don't Trip Danger Danes Pro model would compare. Which has a the spherical bushing in the pivot cup and a urethane in the insert bushing.
Hard to say. I know that with sphericals in the pivot AND bushing seat, the truck is incredibly nimble and precise. Way faster to react that anything currently on the market. Ideal for tuck-leaning and gripping smooth roads. You might have some chattery slides if your setup isn’t tuned well or the road conditions are strange. Bumps will be extremely prevalent without urethane to dampen them. I don’t know what the urethane insert with spherical pivot combo would feel like. I’m really curious but I don’t have a clue.
Just what I needed. Thank you. Love the downhill254 tshirt
Glad to help! I love this shirt, DH254 had really high quality ones made. I always make sure to rep the best reviewer in the scene
Watching right now. I'm not really a DT guy, but into LDP. I just got Slalocybins for my top mount pumper, was curious to see how they compared to these. You ever mess with any distance riding?
Thanks for the videos!
I’m good friends with Cori Wolff, Pantheon team rider and Miami Ultraskate 2023 Women’s Champion. She has been introducing me to LDP lately, so my journey has just begun.
@@owencampbell777 Right on! I'm sure you'll excel. I'm planning to do my first Ultra next year. Hope to see you there!
Sick video! I have had that clunky noise in the baseplate when I lean come and go on my Mollys, and heard it in a friend’s set. I think it was caused by over tightening the angle adjustment dudes but I could be wrong. Have you experienced it much since this video? Cheers
I get that clunky noise too. I had it more when my trucks were new, but it still exists. I never really knew what caused it, so that's an interesting hypothesis. These trucks have so many small parts that it feels impossible to narrow it down to one component, but I'll see if loosening the adjustment bolts does the trick
What size are the hardwares used to lock the baseplate angles?
.25 inch, I don’t know the metric.
@@owencampbell777 ok, thanks!
Why do you have your wheels sitting on your window sill soaking in all that sunlight?
My blinds are always closed and turned upward so skylight doesnt come through.
I open it once in a blue moon. I know about UV degradation
I also keep my freshies in a drawer with desiccant packets, just for the extra level of preservation
What do you think about guto pro model ?
They seem like decent freeride trucks but I think the design is very outdated. I don’t think they would be very competitive against modern race trucks. I would choose Hakis over the Guto Pro if I wanted a truck that was good at all styles of downhill
nice vid! super informative!
It’s Venom tall barrels, that are gonna fit these trucks, right?
Yes. The original DH Cybin used regular barrels, NOT talls. Dont Trip upgraded them years later to have talls. If you’re buying them used, pay attention to that.
Good to know, thanks!
like 191, just discovered you today
Pro-tip: double check your angles.
Thought I was riding 55/15 at a race . . . Was actually riding 30/15 😂
OMG
@@owencampbell777 unstable and didn’t turn - a winning combo 😂
Lmao. I’m going to try that split for shits and giggles. Also to know your pain
@@owencampbell777 let me know how you go! Haha
Apparently someone at Newtons years ago got their split round the wrong way and binned it super hard on their first warm up run lol
I have the slalocybins. Does anyone know if their a urathain pivot I can buy, that will fit the spherical bearing hole.
I’m not sure if you can remove the spherical in slalocybins. If you can, then any insert bushing will fit it
I had asked DT when I was looking for trucks and the answer:
"You can’t replace the spherical pivot with urethane. You can use a Kore to replace the spherical in the hanger".
Not sure if you've ever heard of igus sphericals but they're polymer ones that are supposedly very vibration dampening.
@@tanukistrider6541 thanks i'm looking them up.
@@tanukistrider6541 Stange that Dan says that. the sperical are replaceable (with a blind puller) Then you hust need a urethane pivot to match
@@no66 interesting! Thank you. What pivot would work?
Always enjoy your Reviews Owen, on point, straight to 🛹
Thanks for your support ☺️
I got a set of hakis, would highly recommend using venom inserts. The riptide inserts feel a bit loose and wear a lot faster from my experience
Yes, more visibility for true wheelbase as opposed to board wb. I wish truck companies would specify a lot more of their specs such as height, wheelbase change from the mounting holes, and bushing seat so that we can make better informed purchasing decisions. Height especially I believe is a really important measure of how a truck is going to perform, and lower is better because it is a lot easier to add risers than it is to bore flush mounts into your deck.
From the sound of your setup you would probably really like the new Valkyrie slalom trucks. Although one big negative they have is a very vague center, but I think you get used to that pretty quickly, that and of course price.
I really appreciate your incredibly in-depth long term reviews. I can't wait for the zenit bullet review that is coming out in 2 years or so. It is very uncommon for reviewers to use gear for so long forming opinions, so I think it is awesome. We are also just so starved for good review content in the dh industry. Keep doing the good work.
Small note, the Zenit I’ve been riding is not the Bullet. It’s a custom Rocket with the Bullet shape
I’ve skated the new Valks for only two runs at the local on a friend’s setup. Super interesting feeling, but I had some doubts about the back truck. I’d need more time to see if the back truck geometry is actually decent when paired with the new geometry front. His setup had some torsional flex issues, so that could be part of the problem
Killer review. Interesting to learn all that was to learn about the spherical bearing and your preferred use in your setup. Thanks dude!
Seems so weird having the narrow trucks for stability. On e skates we go wide for stability.
Except for the raith vengeance, that's e skate is a downhill board specific setup and it does 80mph. But you don't need a hill, or slides. I know it isn't the same tho
Your idea that wider trucks are more stable is true. Modern trucks are so inherently stable that you can sacrifice some of that stability for better agility, cornering, and braking force.
@@owencampbell777 I'm about pooping myself at 31mph topped out on my wowgo 3e. It blows my mind how these dudes go 60mph down a hill with a 25 inch wheelbase.
I got Paris v3 7 inch RKP trucks 95A double barrel bushings with cup washers and 30 is ALL I want to do. However if I got riptides I'm sure I'd be more confident at 30.
You downhill guys are nuts.
I just got into skating in general a couple months ago due to falling head over heals in love with E skate.
The ability to run such a narrow hanger comfortably comes from the split-degree baseplates. Most of these narrow DH trucks run a sub-25 degree baseplate in the rear with at least a 50 degree front. They would feel borderline unrideable with symmetrical degree plates.
You can achieve additional stability with your wide trucks by just de-wedging the rear with a wedge riser, just always be sure to always run harder bushings in a lower degree plate.
I bought DT Skate, I bought 5 sets of different trucks from Mark, thanks mark, I have since bought 2 more poppies for LDP, I like Zenit boards, great company,
Have you thought about making tier lists?
Edit : you’re on point about product galleries needing to be larger & more in depth
I haven’t, that’s sorta Brian’s thing over at Hopscotch. Don’t wanna step on his toes, and he already does them well
@@owencampbell777 very true, love his vids as well. I just love hearing multiple perspectives.
Great video...great review. Quick question, do you bore out the hanger side of the bushings when using a spherical bearing in the hanger? I think that may be more of slalom thing, I never knew about it until i got a sk8kings modified Bennett with the spherical in the hanger and they did this. I also have DT Bhanger front slalom truck/Slalocybin rear that came with the bushings already bored out (I think). Probably doing that would make them a little too twitchy for DH, but I was jus wondering if you have tried them like that. It also makes the bushings feel much softer. I have a Haki front/DH cybin rear set up for DH/Freeride but have never tried the sphericals in them, just the Riptide and Venom inserts.
I haven’t tried that, but I’ve been thinking about doing this. I’ve skated bored out slalocybins but truthfully I can’t tell you what they felt like before
Hey, I’d love you do a vid explaining the oversteer and understeer stuff and how you adjust that.
I actually filmed that yesterday! Just need to edit it and record some examples, so be on the lookout!
Awesome!
