I own a 1978 C10 that I bought from my uncle 15 yrs ago. He bought it used in 79 and towed a 30ft camper all over the country from many years. When he wasn't camping, he was towing a bass boat to fishing tournaments. It had a stock 350 that whole time. He loved that truck. In the late 80's when the drivetrain was worn out at almost 240k miles, he had the 350 rebuilt .30 over and swapped in a 700r4 that he had built specifically for towing. That combo now has about 100k miles on it. I've towed a few things with it, but it's mostly just a Sunday cruiser now. That said, it's actually been more reliable than my 2014 F150. All I've done in the 15 yrs I've owned it is a mechanical fuel pump and a ball joint. Anyway, love your rigs. Thanks for sharing.
same my grandfather had a 83 suburban with a 350 and the extra suspendion/towing packages and pulled a full size airstreamer camper. never had issues. i have it not at 118k miles. runs like a dream.
Hey man just a extra tip when you mentioned the fuel tank. If you ever have to replace your fuel pump and you have to drop your tank, take the time to create an access panel through the floor so that you won't have to drop the tank in the future. It's the best time to do it when you have the tank out. It can be done very clean without looking like a hack job. When the fuel pump goes out it's never in your driveway and empty it's always with 30 gal on the side of the road or something. The value of not having to drop the tank with all the gas in it is beyond explanation.
I appreciate this video. I just purchased a 1990 350tbi Suburban 1500 w 128k miles. I have a 21’ boat tandem axle (6k). Put 2” leveling blocks in rear of Burban. Towing for 1st time 4th of July. Added trans temp gauge. 🤞🏻
Looks like she did alright 👍 I have an 85 C30 suburban tow rig. A few years back I installed an 86 corvette tpi engine which it did great. I turbocharged it with a single gt45 and of course it did better it took me a couple years to get the tuning right. Now its getting re-done with a twin compound setup (4 turbos) we'll see how she does. Also have a turbo squarebody pickup they're a blast.
1990 Suburban V1500 towing capacity: 6500lbs, 2022 Canyon towing capacity: 7000lbs. I did not hear you factor in the weight of the driver and driver's hat in your towing calculations.

78 has the round headlights right? Sounds like a cool truck that definitely earned its keep
@@jimmykale Yes sir.

Yeah a marine hatch is what I need if I ever do this again!

Good luck! Keep her in drive and enjoy the scenery… can’t think of a more patriotic sight than a square body towing a boat on the Fourth of July!
Keep the videos comin man! Im looking foward to them as a fellow Jeeper from Michigan. I just bought my first TJ and I am hooked.
Awesome what part of the state are you from?
@@jimmykale I live near the Springport/Olivet area.
Love the old school tow vehicle. Now, I have to look for one of those, too.😂
Thanks, It’s a really fun vehicle, I get more thumbs up in it than I do the Jeep!

Wow quad turbos! That's pretty wild. I'd be happy just to comfortably tow at 75mph.
Loving the TJ. As an 2006 LJ owner I really love the extra wheel base over the TJ. Do a walk around (break down) on that project?
It’s in the works!

Hahaha , well ya see the hat adds bravado to the whole setup, roughly doubling the printed rating……
7000 lb is the towing limit, don't tow in overdrive
ex owner 1991 chevy suburban v1500 barn doors
I love the barn doors as well, I agree about the overdrive, I just wish I had some 31s to bring down the revs while towing in drive…
