Don Muraco's Bizarre Promo
Вставка

- Lots of people have their opinions on what are the worst promos of all time. This, however, is ranked high in my book. Don Muraco cuts a promo on Junk Yard Dog and Ricky Steamboat that he must have put very little thought into prior to getting on the mic. "It's all numbers." What is all numbers?
Update: I've come to enjoy this promo much more since I posted this video 6 years ago. It's still really weird and goes off the rails, but I'm also a Don Muraco fan so I'll allow it.
Gene was a total pro. I remember being a kid and worrying about his safety every week 🤣
Same here 😮😅
Same! I always felt like Ultimate Warrior or the Legion Of Doom would hurt him by accident😂😂😂
That’s what we call selling folks
It’s funny with Gene, when you can watch it again and again , you see how he tried not to laugh. The old timers were pros in the ring and on the mic
With no judgement or lack of respect, in my older years it was funny to find out just how drunk Mean Gene was most of the time 🤣
So many sources: Nash, DDP, Piper etc
When I was a kid everytime I saw Fuji film in stores for cameras I thought it was made by Mr. Fuji, lol.
Kenny Ryan 😂🤣🤣😆 Hilarious. Thanks for sharing.
This is so funny.
Hahahaha I would too, if I was a kid around then...!🤔😁
It was! Mr Fuji's family owns Fuji film. Look it up. Google it.
That’s gold
After the most coke impacted interview Mean Gene ends with the classic straight line…
“Ok gentlemen, I can’t thank you enough”
...set against the guitar solo from Madonna's "Dress You Up".
No drugs
Do you think so?
This is why the '80's ruled. There was always an element of cheekiness and humor to the best promos.
it was great!
Oh yeah big time
....and plenty of cocaine.
This is one of the worst promos I’ve ever seen in my life. TF you talking about?
Dude is obviously a fucking idiot and had nothing to say. This was dogshit
Only downside is they were controlled by a balding lying egotistical maniac who's wrestling was average at best
"64. Maybe 65, or maybe 46 in somebody elses eyes."
Truly a magnificent quote.
@@thefreestylefrEaK I think he, and Fuji, were high af that day...
@@thefreestylefrEaK Lysdexic
Now we know who taught Scott Steiner math
COCAINE!
64 +5 =
OMG i can't believe this is on UA-cam, i haven't seen this interview in almost 35 years, i used to have this on a VHS tape back in the 80's and i used to watch it everyday because it just made me laugh and it brightened my day, it's classic Don Muraco and even he knew he was rambling at the end, thank you for putting this up.
Is Zeus you're personal God belief
The great and wonderful Mr. Fuji had the best cheeky smile of all villains and you could tell, as you can see here with Gene and Don, he was always having a true good time. I sorely miss the old-timers. Long live their memories! ❤❤❤
💯❤😊
Fuji's unyielding smile throughout Muraco's crazy shit is an inspiration to anyone who ever considered giving up. If Fuji's smile can endure this...you can do it, kids.
LOL Fujis smile is very sadistic, but in this specific promo I guess it was more masochistic.
I liked this. Don got a little existential. No wonder a lot of fans don't understand.
“time and numbers and space”
Had me puzzled. Looks like Muraco broke into a Roddy piper voice for a bit and then some Macho man weirdness...
As the old saying goes-Whatever works! Don didn't care who you put in front of him-he was gonna do his best to just steamroll right over 'em!
My thought exactly, was he channeling Roddy for a minute there?
Sorry, I made a similar comment before noticing this. Glad it was not just me.
Don Muraco was one of my all time favorites, but that was brutal.
OMG I was at the Coliseum that night! It was the first live WWF event I ever went to. Thanks for putting this up!
Piper tribute from Don off the top for sure! Even nailed the physicality.
What's stranger is the Guitar Solo in Madonna's "Dress You Up".....😂🤣😂👍👍👍
we have a steamboat and a dog, isn't that a wonderful story
LOL
Muraco was one of the best heels ever.
Muraco was a beast in the 80s.
Muraco and Fuji was a great team.
From the way he's swaying and the look in his eyes he's still recovering from last night. And the way he started talking, I think he was with Roddy Pipper.
Piper
Time, numbers and space
Words to live by: "It's all numbers, and time, and space" - Don Muraco.
Don did his best work with a mouthful of powdered sugar donut...
A nose full of powder
The reason the WWF in the 80s was so great is because we always got to see the stars in squash matches against jobbers and enhancement talent. The matches were short and there weren't any storylines except at the lead up to the expensive pay l per views. It was awesome.
Muraco would have been a awesome Italian goon in a movie.
If you think this is horrible, you just don't get it. It was brilliant, he didn't corpse and kept his composure even when he knew he had no idea what the fuck he was saying. True professional.
Muraco was one of the greatest heels in history and those promo were genius. As a face, he just sucked.
@@adrenochromejoe7448I think he was great at both.😅
I fcat checked this promo and I can verify the veracity of Mr. Muraco's statements. Dogs and Steamboats love each other.
It seems like Muraco is trying to crack up Okerlund intentionally here.
In fairness. It was said it was a bizarre promo not a horrible promo. Anyone who ever thinks this promo is terrible does not know pro wrestling.
Thank you Adam to bring me to the gem.
Better than the scripted crap today.
I saw these two outside of Boston Garden! Over 30 years ago.
Don Muraco promos are pure genius!
64, maybe 65! this is awesome
Dude was doing Steiner math wayyyy before Scott ever was
He had a lot of bizarre promos. That was part of his shtick. He was the surfer from Hawaii. He was an awesome heel. His cage match with Snuka I could never forget.
I met Don at Worlds Gym in Hawaii back in 1990. The nicest guy for sure.
sounds hilarious to me
i don't think you understand what makes a good promo
Muraco is one of the masters of the promo. He was funny on this one but literally fell off the bar stool LOL!
gene wanted to burst out laughing
hahaha, Mean Gene's expression at the end was so funny, looking at Muraco, like "what the fuck are you on?"
This promo is better than the promos of today
wasn't great, but NOT even close to being a horrible promo.
He looks like he was high when he did this promo.
64 will always be 65 to me now after watching this
YOU GOT 64? I GOT 65
@@mgb4692 YOU GOT 46? I GOT TWO OF THOSE TOO
Don Muraco is one of the all time greats on the mic. How dare you call anything he does horrible.
noooooooooooooooooooooooooo
He said bizarre
Damn Muraco's promos straight rocked everytime he touched the mic.
I love the little look Gene gives to the camera when he says,
“No, I’m not”
1:29
This isn't that bad. Better than promos today. In fact it was only at the end here when Muraco tried to *riff-off-of* Gene's "numbers" comment that it went-off-the-rails. Even so he managed to make it *rhyme at the end.*
Did I hear right? Was that a metal cover of Madonna's "Dress You Up" at the very end? Hahahaha Awesome.
This is genius! Both Fuji and Muraco are having a good time. They talk about nonsense so they appear more dangerous.
They’re incredible. They can slapstick ham it up, or be very threatening - or anything in between. I agree that there was an element where they throw in some Asian mysticism at times to make them more mysterious and threatening. I remember being a little kid, and muraco claiming that that Steamboat was in for a big surprise, as Mr. Fuji - as a master of the martial arts - had taught muraco a counter to every single one of Steamboat’s moves. As a little kid, and a huge steamboat fan you were like: uh oh!!
Indeed, ha ha ha,- as-so!
@@datacipher lol, as a kid, I would worry too if mr Fuji and muraco said that. They scare me a little even now and I'm 42.
Sounded classic to me
nah, that was just crap.
Both were high as hell. Look at Fuji's eyes, it's a dead giveaway
"It's all time and numbers... and space"
I think the Magnificent One may just have tried some Maui-Wowie and channeled his best Roddy Piper before the interview.
What a great clip. Thanks for posting.
I remember a kid I was watching a promo with Morocco and Fuji and they were in Hawaii. Fuji mentions, “once we get back to the United States, everyone will pay when they face magnificent Morocco.” I remember my late father saying, “Mr. Fuji, Hawaii is in the United States.” 😂
And that's funny because Fuji was born in Hawaii
Morocco? Which part, Casablanca? 😅
Lol " I can't thank u enough." Explains everything lol
Yup lol
64 maybe 65 or 46 in someone else's eyes...🤔
I liked Fuji walking away his face said "what the hell?"
It wasn't that bad until he started talking about numbers and space, but that was partially Mean Gene's fault lol
fuji is stuck in npc mode just standing there grinning not understanding what muraco is trying to say
Well Muraco is known for being great on the mic, so he is allowed a stinker!
"Take the steam outta the boat and the boat don't float"- Rowdy Roddy Piper
LOL! Don seemed to be channeling Piper there at first!
Sounds like Muraco is trying to do a Roddy Piper impersonation
When I was in 8th grade in 85, a classmate saw Muraco walking on Ferry Street in Newark,NJ. He asked if wrestling was fake and Muraco told him it was.
This is not horrible, this is going with the flow, "ad-libing" by the masters- Don Muraco and Mr. Fuji! Ha HA HA, Ah-SO!
As Macho would say "Space is the place!" :D
Morocco should have done that promo before he started coming down off the coke
Can only assume Fuji was put with Muraco to keep him heel in fans eyes, as his promo work is really enjoyable
mr fuji standing there smiling for the camera thinking damn man can you cut a better promo than that damn son your makeing yourself look stupid
My tooth was getting a cavity drilled out at the end, but then I turned it down.
sounded like it was written for Roddy Pipper
must be the truth, I was about to say the same thing
James Cave
just watched it again its a bad piper imitation
yeah, sounds like hes doing a piper imitation. that was first thing I thought. the whole delivery, and even his voice. he was probably trying to rip off piper as he was the top heel
Piper never had a promo written for him in his life.
Maybe Piper wrote it for him, but yeah in one way or another its very Piperesque
i thought the promo was actually good until he started talking about "64" that i didnt get, but i think it was just some jibberish in response to gene pointing out the numbers on his shirt. certainly not the worst i have ever seen in promos, but i wasnt focusing on the numbers i was focusing on the " steamboat finds a dog" thing LOL
Muraco and Scott Steiner should have really sat down and wrote a math textbook together.
I think the Ultimate Warrior found this inspirational.
The Magnificent one often talked in circles to confuse the legion of dopes. he did his best talking in the squared circle, the ring.. Does he look naive? Does he look like he just walked in from the dorm? Heck, NO!
after 40 years I think i just figured out the #s !!!! BIG THANXXX 4 THIS VIDEO .
Talk about being wasted. He probably didn’t remember doing this.
"Hopefully that is not your age". Gene missed his moment. I truly thought he was witty.
Mr. Fuji LEGEND!
"Time and numbers and space." LOL! Sounds like something Ultimate Warrior would say. Of course, Warrior's promos kicked ass!
Bizarre? This is pure intellectual gold. It will be studied for centuries, the same as Plato and Socrates.
Dude! it's quite obvious that Fuji and Muraco smoked a huge cannon of a joint before the interview... maybe even Gene had a few tokes.
As Chief Wiggum would say "hopped up on goofballs"
My Mt Rushmore of fuuny promos:
1. This one 2. Mr Wonderful "The body that men love....to fear", 3. Dr Schultz " Hulk Hogan You belong in San Francisco", 4. Lex Luger "CAN HE AFFORD TO PAY ME TO WRESTLE RON!!? I DON'T KNOWWWWW - IM THE BIGGEST STAR EVER IN THIS ..ARGHHH". - Honorable mention; Jumping Jeff Farmer "You've got me.....mad now"
YIP!
Omg WWF playing Madonna at the end haha
They played a lot of 80's music in the WWF back then, afterall it was the 80's haha!! I remember a Greg Valentine promo from '85 ish and they used the song "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" from Tears for Fears lol.
It looked liked muraco was reading off of cards his eyes kept shifting and it looked like he wanted to start laughing cause I don't think he understood what he was saying right
I would have guessed drunk.
That was Muraco's Scott steiner impression. Lol
Completely forgot Mr. Fugi. Entertaining Heel manager
as the late Gordon Solie would say "Indeed"
Mean Gene will always let you know its a horrible promo when he is making that face like "REALLY?"
All this was missing was the fade to black with Gene being caught saying, "what the fuck was that?"
It's wasn't a terrible promo. He just didn't punctuate the conclusion with a memorable statement.
Adam from Partsfunknown sent me here
I wish promos were still like this lmao
They would do loads and loads of promos in one day. During this time period of TV tapings, Don and Mean Gene talked numbers for promos that went to the different markets. The number on Dons shirt is what they both are referring to. It is why Gene points to it. One market, I think it was the Philadelphia Spectrum Gene said your 5 short. Meaning 69. They played with the numbers for about 2 or 3 weeks. It is just Don and Gene messing around referring to the number 69. You had to have seen the promos at this time for a few markets to understand it.
even if what you are trying to describe is true it still doesnt take away from the fact that this is a garbage promo... he mentioned other non sensical things before they started talking about the number on his jersey.
which means it's 10x better than what we have to watch today
@@RedroomStudios You just like todays scripted trash & that's fine... if youre a toddler
@@ModernDayRenaissanceMan no I dont. I havent watched wrestling probably since around the early 90's. I prefer late 70's to early 80's period, before WWF went all Hollywood with it. I like wrestling promos the way Flair did them - talk about how great he was and about how he was going to kick his opponent's ass.
Don Muraco was billed as being from Sunset Beach, but he sounds like he's related to The Brooklyn Brawler
He was and still is from Hawaii.
Mr Fuji corpsing was just icing on the cake.
And now back to "Fuji Vice" 🤣
Fuji was strangely articulate here. I only remember semi-coherent ramblings.
I liked promos when even the tough bad guys could goof around with Mean Gene and still be talking about kicking another dude's ass. Wrestling doesn't have to be Braveheart all the time.
awesome outro music; "dress you up in my love"
That music has got Cindi Lauper......MAD now (Jumpin Jeff Farmer promo😅)
