Can you tell me what kind of apertures you were using for the test photos and what focal lengths. I want to get this lens mainly for landscapes and want to know how far you pushed the aperture since there seems to be a large depth of field in most there.
Recommended to be used around F8 - F11 for landscape photography. Otherwise you will end up with some vignetting and distortion on the edges. You might have to experiment in that F stop range. All the best.
This video shouldn't have any dislike! See the straightforward review we all want to see. I love the close up shots of the lens, looks like you must have used a 50mm for that, very nice. Thanks, I just got mine for $280 on eBay yesterday, has not arrived. Great review!
Thanks for your support! I haven't looked to see how many dislikes are on this video. You got a great price on the Tokina and I think you'll love it! I shoot with mine quite a bit and one of the best purchases I've made for my camera. And thanks for noticing the close ups! I try to get as close as I can in my videos so viewers can actually see what I'm doing easily. I think it helps make the viewing experience better!
You can put filters on the Tokina lens. I’ve not used filters on this but you probably won’t see the rings of the filter. The lens comes with a lens hood and that doesn’t show up at the widest at 11mm. I’m using a Canon M6 with cropped sensor.
Bro, does this lens have a is? I just bought canon 10-18mm stm. It is good for travel video but not quite good for lowlight and not too sharp. How are tha images on tokina 11-16mm? I am also thinking about get this one.
I really love my Tokina 11-16mm. I don't think it has image stabilization. But it is affordable for a wide angle lens. I mostly shoot video with it but the pictures I take look fantastic with this lens!
I believe that the Nikon D3400 is a crop sensor camera? I would still suggest the Tokina 11-16mm. There is a Nikon version of it. Not sure if it's wide enough for you but on my Canon mirrorless camera it does the job and the images come out nice. The Tokina is worth checking out since it's not too expensive.

There is a Nikon version of this lens. You may have bought the Canon version by accident. The Canon version would most-likely say it's for EF mount and the Nikon version will be for DX mount. Hope this helps!
Oh yes! I eventually realized my camera had a burned/defective pixel! This video was shot on an old Canon Powershot point and shoot camera. Thanks for watching!
How would you compare this to Rokinon 10mm t3.1 cine DS (equivalent to f2.8). I want to buy a wide angle lens for my d500 for 4K video. Is it sharp enough for indoor events. I'll be using this for video only. I understand with Rokinon I'll be missing Zoom option in video but my main concern is sharpness & crystal clear video. Thanks
The Tokina website says the DX II has an internal silencing motor for Nikon cameras that don't have AF drive gear and motor. Also they added some lens coating for "improved optical performance". That's all I could find as far as technical differences in the DX vs DX II versions. Hope this helps!
Thanks! I really enjoyed the monorail shot. It worked out great with the slider hanging slightly over the railing on the 4th floor of the building I was on.
Great review just 1 feedback the zooming of still photo was a bad idea as it beats the purpose of letting your viewers get a perspective on how the shot framed :-)
Thanks! I was going back and forth on whether to zoom or not on the photos. But I can see why just a static image would be better for showcasing the photos.
What was the f-stop on the still pictures? I am having focus issues on my tokina and want to check it is not because of the aperture value which i am using...
Oh man! I'm not sure the F-stop on the pics in the video. I'll have to see if I can find this project folder and look at the properties of the pics. I'll let you know if I find it. Are you still having issues with the focusing? Did you ever figure out what was causing the issue?
Cool photos! I am interested in this lens! But I wonder if the noise from the motors affect the video? Is the noise too noticeable, when video recording?
Yes it's a possibility that the camera can pick up the sound from the focusing motor but I don't have any issue with noise. I usually focus before I start recording. The motors aren't in use while recording unless maybe you hold the shutter button down 1/2 way to re-focus. It's not a constant auto-focus lens. Hope this helps!
+Septimus Thanks for noticing the finer details in my video! I used a Kamerar SD-1 Slider/Dolly for several shots. Here's my review of the slider: ua-cam.com/video/IM4SroZgaKY/v-deo.html This slider also has wheels on it so I can get amazing sweeping shots like on the tricycles when there's a large smooth surface. I use the slider quite a bit and it adds extra dimension to video shots.
I would say this is definitely one of the best inexpensive/affordable wide angle lenses for Nikon and Canon! It's also f2.8 which is great. However it's for cropped sensor cameras. I put this on a full frame Canon 5Dii and could only use it at the 16mm focal length. But I really like this lens and I'm glad I have it!
I believe the Tokina 11-16mm has a 77mm filter ring. I like the adjustable ND filters because they make it easy to change. Here's one from Fotga that's just under $20: amzn.to/2GCcUxF I haven't used a polarizer so I don't have a recommendation right now but again 77mm is what you're looking for. Hope this helps!
The Tokina 11-16mm is for crop sensor cameras. I put it on a full from 5D once and you can use it on there but you have to use it at 16mm to avoid seeing a black ring around your image. Thanks for watching!
Those smooth looking shots were taken on a camera slider. I'm using the Kamerar SD-1 slider which is a slider and a dolly. Most of the time I just use the track but because this is also a dolly, it comes with wheels. The shot of the tricycles at 4:43 is where I used the wheels. I got it on Amazon here: amzn.to/2o8bPJh Also you can see my review of the Kamerar slider I own here: ua-cam.com/video/IM4SroZgaKY/v-deo.html
Do you still own the lens and is this lens still your primary ultra wide angle lens you choose to shoot with? Great video and I find it intuitive and educational. Thank you
Yeah I still own the lens and love it! This is my primary lens and I find that I use it way more than my other lenses. But I do carry around my other EOS M lenses just in case I need to switch but those lenses are pretty small in size when compared to the Tokina.

I agree! This is a great lens! As far as the music goes, I don't know the track off the top of my head. I'd have to look back in my project file. But I think I got it from UA-cam.
