This is the best version of Uncle John's Band I've ever heard. Not the best cover, the best version. And that includes - I'll probably be burned at the stake for saying this - the Dead themselves. (Forgive me, Jerry for I have sinned!). Truly amazing!

I just listened to this, ... amazing. Art in exchange for art: I'm driving up to Reno, dangerously before midnight, running moonshine from the setting sun.......between the pearly blue sky, and the smokey pines, the jagged peroxide-pure white teeth of the Sierra wearing snow.......And below, the gold-bearing wedding bands of weathered mantles, soil the color of an Irish Setter, betrothed to the climate at 6000 feet. CRV like the grasshopper flying. The road ground up with chains of fourteen wheelers bearing the shackles of bondage. Asphalt rutted not with plowshares, but with Marly's ghost melting................................................... I hear you. I'm losing a musician friend right now. Tears for him and the loss of the magic that was made seeing him across the stage with him smiling back. I've played music for most of my 70 years of my life and I am saddened by the loss of close musician friends. But then I how could you know the sadness and loss without sharing the joy and bond of the brother and sisterhood that we held?

This is a magical song - and this is a truly magical cover - the angelic blend of voices and lilting rhythm really bring out the spiritual dimension of the lyrics - the joy of the performers was palpable. I'm a 200+ show Deadhead - from all the way back to the Haight - and I'm pretty sure this is the best and most uplifting cover of one of my all-time favorite songs ever - it drew sweet tears from the gate.
