that is not nailing it, nailing it is producing sounds extremely close to the original, however this is a very well done version of the song one of the best I have heard since the songs release in 1974
I’m 65 years old and y’all make me tear up and proud to know that we still have some young folks interested in the great music of my youth. Y’all are awesome.
Same here! Turning 60 next July, I’ve played this song many times at beach parties in Hawaii when the kids at the time sort of remembered it and joined in. It’s a classic everyone alive remembers in some fashion. One of the best “join in” beach party songs I resorted to among a mixed crowd. As soon as the chorus kicks in, “Oh black water, keep on rollin’ Mississippi moon…”, People of all ages feel it whether they remember it or not. It’s just one of those songs. These guys arranged it so well! It’s tear-jerking I agree. The different voices coming in on lead, the harmonies, captured the soul of this classic song. I’ve played this at beach parties after a gig that didn’t play this song at all. Not even remotely related to it. Yet, everyone is singing along and smiling to this song on a beach with just a couple guitars and lots of voices. I wish my professional gigs went as well and fun as playing Black Water in the sand with a bunch of strangers.
I’d like to add something I remember about a crowd at the beach just taking off on this song. Me and my rhythm guitarist set up the song and just start out the whole feel. Because at a beach party there’s no rules, people pick which part they want to sing and sometimes join a team on the chorus. The lead is right there in the background and some join in and commit to that. Or they’ll change places just for fun. No matter what, it’s the most fun unpracticed group song ever.
D-minor, well known in the Spinal Tap movie as the “saddest of all chords” add a 7th to it and there’s hope all of a sudden. That’s what I did with this song that started just barely sad, then turned happy without changing keys. The lyrics tell the mood. The guitarist has to interpret the feeling projected on the fly. Sorry if I’ve gone on too long. Love this song, love these fine musicians, and I’m just smiling remembering things I forgot about years ago. Just an old man missing his youth I guess. Peace and aloha to all of you. 🤙🏼
I consider myself a fairly gifted vocalist and stringed instrument operator, but, as a person in touch with reality, I would be lucky and thankful to even sit in the same room as these people. Insanely gifted, and I'm thankful and grateful to be alive in their time.
I have watched this many times and I think my favorite part is the absolute grin on the face of the bass player whenever the camera pans across him. They are definitely having fun.
Yeah that made me joyous to watch, Pretty sure that be me if i was playing that good lol and then once we finsh it I'd be like that was awesome lets do it again lol
I think it would make an interesting video to hear how the four of them met and decided to play together and if they have any long term plans of adding an occasional guest or two to their group. I know I`d love to hear Allison or Skylar, just to mention a couple of names sit in now and then.
I don’t think people can even fathom how perfect this was. How 100% fucking pERfect, it was. This needs a billion views. This is live, genuine, one perf take, rehearsed, perfected, thought through, classic, unbelievable music. I’m totally stunned dude.
You nailed the emphasis on how awesome that performance was! This is probably my favorite Dooby song (I probably say that about several), and I just love how they did this!! The voices and alternation - inspired & perfect. The guitar duo at the end - what a thrill to listen to!! I’m gonna proudly share this (as a good find)! Cool this group is from Czech Rep (I married into a Czech family who relocated to Texas).
The year was 71, Doobie Bros lived a few houses down the street from me in San Jose Ca., played in the basement, right before this song came out, memory lane, you bring it all back❤
I am a 70 year old who was a musician back when this music was fresh and alive. I don't know if you guys realize it but you are far more than just some guys and gals playing the great old music. This was the best era for great songwriting and performing in the rock and roll era. You are keeping this tradition alive for people of your generation and introducing these cherished songs and bands to an entirely new audience of kids who don't know their parents or really their grandparents generation of music. It is actually an awesome responsibility! This was the age before internet and mindless video games when great songwriting and performing were prized commodities. A far better era than today. Yeah there was the Vietnam War and some challenging times but the music united the entire generation like no other force that exists today. What young people for the most part experience musically today is equivalent to fast food - there is just no nourishment in terms of craft and musicianship in it. Anyway keep up the great work of reaching another generation of fans for this wonderful music.
Man, the mix on this one is *chef’s kiss* Making that microphone case shaker and guitar case kick drum sound like some studio shit. Such a pleasure as always y’all!
Holy Moly, you folks take me back to the best years of my life. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Just think, if I had given in to cancer, I may have missed this. Thank you!
In 1973 we were all getting changed into our basketball uniforms after driving through a snow storm to get to this tournament. Buddy starts singing this song. We all joined in. what joy I felt.
This would've been my son's birthday but COVID-19 took him. He was my best friend & he loved same music that I do. Doobies music never sounded better. Thank you so much. He would've thoroughly enjoyed this.
The joy they have in their music flows through their playing. I’ve been playing guitar for 45 years and I wish I had half of their talent. I did have some medical issues that I overcame, was temporarily paralyzed from the neck down which affected me for a long time, but recent spinal surgery has brought back the dexterity and hand coordination.
Friends, I'm recovering from a surgical procedure and in a lot of pain. Watching this just lifted me out of my pain for a few minutes and brought a huge smile to my face. It was heavenly! I was a teen in the 70's and Black Water was one of the best (coolest, baaadest, grooviest, most far out) of the many awesome songs to come out of that decade. Your artistry here in this arrangement was true enough to the original to take me back to those days, and yet original enough to let me appreciate you, some of my favorite musicians. I follow all of you (except the bass player - don't know Andrew) on UA-cam and love your work.
Je vous adore.. 😍 vous faites de la musique simplement, mais avec tellement de talent, dans la plus pure tradition du folk des années 60' et 70'..thank you..
Honestly, I'm impressed that you managed to create this in just 8 takes; it's a very complicated song, both musically and vocally. All of you clearly know what you want to hear, and you know when you've gotten there. You're saving an entire generation of great songs, please don't stop on these group collaborations, they are some of the best work to be found on UA-cam.
I’ve been watching Josh and Carson since they were in high school, what talented young men. This is UA-cam at it’s best. A window into the lives of others. Thanks for sharing your talent and hard work.
Well, this did it for me.....neck hairs on end, socks empty as I'm blown out of them , heads gone, feeling euphoric.....thank you so very much. Love from across the pond.
I literally made a big "woooooooohooo" when drums and bass dropped in. Goosebumps covered my whole body, my heart bounced and I laughed about myself cause this came from out of nowhere - I couldn't control this...
Is there anything you DON’T do well? My, my - that was freaking great!!!! 67 year old brought back to my 19-20 year old self in the best imaginable way - through song. Your voices, musical abilities and sheer artistry are off the charts. Love listening to all of you - love seeing you all together even more. My sincere thanks for taking my generation’s music and not only keeping it alive, but making it fresh and relevant again. You rock!!❤
You nailed this cover WITHOUT A FIDDLE! Your musicianship and joy in making music is inspiring, uplifting, and exciting. I'm 70, and you've made me promise I will never stop making music, though I will gladly step aside and let you take center stage and show everyone how it is done for real.
Still my favourite collaboration right here. That bass kicking in during Elle Cordova's verse is goosebumps and I've listened maybe 100 times since this came out. The guitar duet is as good as it gets. Josh is supremely talented but it would have been big effort keeping up with the supreme Toni Lindgren. Perfect collaboration. Love it love it love it.
I saw you, and Reina, in Nashville. Thank you for coming! You guys just open up the universe with your hard work and talent. Not to mention good taste. Hope to see you guys soon!
Yes, but Carson's performance was uncharacteristically free of any other facial contortions. I was checking to see if that new moustache was anchored to tent pegs hammered into the floor. JUST KIDDING! Love Carson and all the rest of the gang. Stellar performances all round! 💖
Being a 68 year old grandmother not much can make me get up in the middle of night but you guys sure had me up and having a great time. It makes me happy cry to think old times and old friends. Thanks to all of you! ❤
I am 73 and loved this song when it first came out. Still do. An homage to Huckleberry Finn by the Doobies? Has to be. In any event, this is about as pitch-perfect a cover as one could hear. A fantastic job, folks! Artists like you keep these classics alive. Thanks for that.
The big smile on Andrew Foreman's face throughout, pretty much says it all. Each of you individually are excellent musicians, however something magical happens when the four of you make music together. Thank you.
Do we love these people for their music, yes...Do we love them for the fun and kind spirits they show, yes.....Their is something uplifting about the out takes that gives us a tiny insight into them as people...and that is somehow as soulful as the music.
I hope you're all enjoying playing as much as we're all watching and listening. Please keep playing what you love. Music has always been good for the soul.
RDC and TOF playing a iconic 70s rock /pop song by the doobie brothers. All of a sudden im back in 1975 and in.9th grade again. Ah sweet perfection 😊❤🎼🎵🎙🎸🎶
This was a favorite song to sing for me, back in the day. Nice to see that it's not forgotten. I'm 71 now and my Custom Guitar and Amp just collect dust, arthritis has made it impossible to play anymore. Rock On. 😎
The acapella was the best part... Also the last part of the video where Carson sang.. What is that? Wow!!! It's amazing!!! Watching the last part 5:53. The smile of Toni makes me coming back watching this video again and again and again.
@@mattsmitt00 Sounded like "you said you'd come back in an hour / you haven't come back yet" (?) Couldn't find that as any song lyric, maybe it was something original?
Maybe it’s an original yet to be recorded/released. (Reminded me of a Radiohead song from In Rainbows at first.) Can’t wait to hear the song in its entirety.
Early in 75, my senior year in high school, we went on a ski trip. This song played on the radio constantly on the 3 hour trip to and from the resort. I had never skied before and had so much fun. This song has such pleasant memories associated with it I smile every time I hear it. Thank you for making me smile!😁
simply can't stop playing this song (and many others). It makes me happy and restores my faith in the younger generation, here in Holland and all over the world filled with so much talent. Thanks and please don't stop the magic.
My absolute favorite song that takes me back to 1974! Honestly was a little afraid your group, that I truly love, might “damage” my beloved song that I have listened to hundreds of times. But NO! I really enjoyed it! Thank you!!! All while sitting cross legged barefooted in the back of an RV! The key was the guitar licks that Josh and Toni killed! Banjo? Of course Reina! I shouldn’t have worried 😅
The level of quality and attention to detail in these while still feeling like a very relaxed and laid back production/experience is absolutely insane. Amazing job
I HAVE TO TELL YOU... As a southern hippie that song is written into my DNA! ALL of you did SUCH a good job! And Carson has the the stash to match the time-warp! Thank you all for the fresh cup of coffee this morning!!!
I call it Carson’s 70’s porn stach. He covers up his handsome face. Why? I don’t know. I agree. I was a southern hippie myself. Love this song by the Doobie Brothers. These guys do a fantastic covering it. It amazes me how well they cover songs with very few instruments. The songs actually sound better than the originals.
Do Josh & friends (of whom there are many besides the ones in this video) ever fail to amaze us? You can dismiss most of what's popular in "mainstream" music today. This is where you want to be. Josh & the troops just get better all the time! Go Josh, keep on crankin' out the good stuff!
My first thought was that I did not want to hear that overplayed old song again. How could I have been so wrong. You injected new life into a stale old classic. Well done . . . no, I really mean it - welllllll done.
Wonderful! And this may be a trivial appreciation, but I love how you all stayed perfectly in pitch during the a capella. When the instruments came back in, you needed zero pitch adjustment. That’s a mark of seasoned pros.
Shut up!! Did that classic come out of those younguns?!!?! I'm picky about my music and not inclined to waste time on the mediocre. This was off the charts. I'll definitely come back for more.
I scanned through the comments to see if I was the only one who didn't know she played banjo. When I saw the reflection of her in the beginning with that banjo, boy, did it wake me up!
They way you play, the songs you play, the sound of your voices, stirs emotions in me like nothing else. I can't listen to half of your songs without shedding tears.
Josh you are ahead of your generation brotha! Been a fan for 10 years strong. So much to say.... since Kelly...wow! I'm a fan but a nobody. Your ability is mind blowing. You, Carson, The Other Favorites, any of your friends you collaborate with, Toni, Reina!!! THANK YOU!!
Wow!! wow! This is like the graduate course-level follow-up to Stuck In The Middle With You, which is the song that got me hooked on Josh, Carson, Reina and Toni. Outstanding! And now I know that this song is from the Doobie Brothers, lol. I'm am so jealous, watching this tight knit band of friends. :) Thanks gang!
It’s awesome how you all do your solo and duet work (very well) and then come back together to make this kind of music. Apparently just for fun as much as anything. I hope you love it as much as we do.
Speechless! Spot on of super talents combined in a 9x12 studio. Space confinements finely emulates the singer-song writing genre whilst punctuating artists' brilliance: Talent dispels time and space
Bass player just groovin.
How he held off for the first minute and a half is amazing

I've been a producer for more than 25 years and I have to say.... You guys blew me away. Wow. Much love.
After listening about 20 times, I finally noticed how perfectly they nailed the stereo soundstage. In the back of a bus. With three mics.
@@dcqmichael right everyone does 16 isolated tracks today, this is from the old school 4 track days!
Been watching their videos for a while. They seem to be moving up in the world. First a van, then a motorhome, and now a tour bus. 😀
I love seeing the younger generation keeping the classics alive! Thank you!
A other musical gift 🎁
The level of quality and attention to detail in these while still feeling like a very relaxed and laid back production/experience is absolutely insane. Amazing job
The bass insertions are just lovely
He sure seems happy.
OMG this is incredible. The guitar solos with Josh and Toni are unbelievable.
I’m an old man and this makes me feel so young, love ya
Honestly, I didn't think anything on UA-cam could top your cover of Baby Driver, but you proved me wrong. Everything about this is perfect.
My first thought was that I did not want to hear that overplayed old song again. How could I have been so wrong. You injected new life into a stale old classic. Well done . . . no, I really mean it - welllllll done.
That groove when carson and andrew come in is immaculate. Unreal chemistry
Absolutely agree.
I love the music and all of the musicians, but that bass player just blows me away. He is sooo cool.
Exellent version of this classic song love your band Josh 😎

Wonderful! And this may be a trivial appreciation, but I love how you all stayed perfectly in pitch during the a capella. When the instruments came back in, you needed zero pitch adjustment. That’s a mark of seasoned pros.
I've been wanting to say that the videographer is excellent. Not only on this video but on all others.
Echo what Emery Bowden said... I'm 63. You guys are keeping good music alive and well. Fantastic cover. What a great bunch of artists.
Elle, Josh, Toni and Carson is a SUPERGROUP!
Shut up!! Did that classic come out of those younguns?!!?! I'm picky about my music and not inclined to waste time on the mediocre. This was off the charts. I'll definitely come back for more.
Thank you Josh, Carson, Reina, Toni and Andrew!
This is probably one of the best songs on this channel.
A ton of talent per square foot in that little "room". The dual solo with Josh and Toni was great. All of you are masters of your craft.
Reina's vocals were fantastic! What a great job everyone 👏
She's good
I’ve commented before….but I’m still utterly amazed by this performance. I’m not even sure if you guys know how what you did here? This……is music.
Great music. I had no idea that Reina played the banjo. Even more talented than I knew.
I scanned through the comments to see if I was the only one who didn't know she played banjo. When I saw the reflection of her in the beginning with that banjo, boy, did it wake me up!
I have been watching her since she was in college and had not seen her with a banjo. Toni is a supreme picker but Reina is really very good.
They way you play, the songs you play, the sound of your voices, stirs emotions in me like nothing else. I can't listen to half of your songs without shedding tears.
Dropped a tear or 2 for sure on this one, something to do with lost youth and losing old friends I suppose, just great music....
This is just too perfect. Certainly groovin'. Now all we need is Long Train Runnin'... 👀
out of the park
I saw the Doobies in concert and they would be so proud of you guys and gals!!!
Reina Reina Reina, WOW ! An Angel!
It's good to see young people still enjoying the good ole music instead of the bull crap that's out now!!! And they are great musicians!!!
I know where I've seen these guys before, performing the Eagle's "Hotel California"! Love it!
2/9/23
Reina on banjo... This fabulous... flawless... fun... funky! plenty o' funky!! Thanks guys!!
I daresay this was even better than the original. The additional harmonies and mixing of voices for the harmonies elevated this an amazing level.
I was thinking the same....is it blasphemy to think so? :)
Immaculate. And that guitar bit in the middle...ahhh. The hair was standing on my arm like a wire brush
Love love love. I'm 65 grew up with these songs
Instant classic. Back of the bus. Reina, Toni, Andrew and Carson on board. Nailed it. Thanks for another great one.
3:55 Josh goose bumps. When the two guitarists played off each other was amazing, the the bass🙃. The vocals were sublime.
Goose bumps? The first thing I thought of was Goose (and his son) in the Top Gun movies with that stache!
Y'all, I keep coming back to this because it's the best version I've ever seen
I don't want to work. I just want to bang on these drums and/or listen to you guys all day.
Man the jams between those 4 must be amazing
