Excellent guide, my friend, this deserves more attention. I had no idea about the log analyzer in particular. That's gonna be super useful in showing up all my warlock guildies xD
This is a great guide! I do have a note however, in phase 8 (which is current as of this comment), the current 4 set from Ulduar grants your Mind Blast 4 seconds of 240 haste. As Vampiric Touch and Devouring Plague benefits massively from haste, there is an argument to be made of changing your rotation a bit based on when you cast Mind Blast. This is just a friendly reminder, use it as you'd like. Personally I use the standard opening no matter what, and keep in mind Mind Blast if I see CDs line up in a way that allows me to cast MB before DP/VT without too much downtime.
You can check out the shadow priest sim at wowsims.GitHub.io and input your gear to see if changes your rotation, but it’s likely nothing will change. I’ve never seen it adjust my rotation and I’m 4 pieces off of phase bis currently
@@Pants_Gaming Yeah, i have noticed it does not change the rotation, but if you think about it, doing; VP - DP - MB as normally the first 3 GCDs, or doing VT - MB - DP, doesnt really matter on how much time you are losing in dot tick time, but having that 240 haste present when you cast DP, should increase the DPS slightly. Can even go MB - VP - DP as they both benefit from the haste. But you lose 1 GCD of uptime om your dots. Imo, its worth it.
a few things 1. You recast dp after lust is cast anyway, so that first DP having 240 haste doesn't mean anything if you don't get an extra tick in the few seconds it's active before you recast DP (which I don't believe you would) 2. 240 haste is only 7% haste so it's not as impactful as it might seem 3. The sim optimizes the rotation based upon the highest dps cast in that moment so the fact that it doesn't change the rotation means the buff is not impactful enough to warrant rotational changes I understand what you're trying to say but people have already mathed out the set bonus and, while it's really good, it's not strong enough to impact our rotation
I changed my rotation around the 4 piece for a week and it didn't really change much. I just cast it normally. It eventually lines up with vt/dp cast quite often during a fight, and waiting for MB to be off cd to recast a DP in the changed rotation wasn't worth it.
Great video with awesome tips! I have a question about the advanced rotation. I was told that I should cast MF after VT>DP to get 5 stacks faster, then SWP >MB. Why is it more advantageous to cast VT>DP>MB>MF>SWP?
It's possible trolls may do this if they pop berserking on pull, but my sim was configured to cast shadowfiend 2 seconds into the fight and Bloodlust 3 seconds in. With these settings the sim did mb into mf with my gear, even as a troll. The reason to cast mind blast is that it's a higher damage per cast time than mind flay, but overall it's a minor change
Even as a long time SP player this was helpful, mostly the tool you linked showing me how much dps I am missing because of clipping my MFs early or not getting my dots up quick enough. One thing I would add and this is more so for specific fights rather than overall. Vezzax and Hodir you get a metric ton of haste from either the puddles or beams, mind blast can only gain so much from haste however MF, VT, and DP don't really have that fall off. There is a WA that can tell you when your haste reaches a certain thresh hold where MB is not worth it to cast, though on Vezzax and Hodir (in beams) you really shouldn't be casting MB almost at all. It's only really ever kind of worth it on Vezzax if nobody else is doing a mortal strike or something similar if your raid is not good with getting his mark out of the group, so maybe casting one when that debuff comes out to prevent some healing if nobody else is.

So, this is conjecture but since getting 4 piece t8 i've swapped to Fade->MB->MF3->on use effects + VT-> DP-> SW:P opener. 4 Piece falls off just after casting DP, and you've got trinket procs, tailoring proc, glyph, shadow weaving, demonic pact, and lust rolling on your initial dots. Plus you save the globals from reapplication. Mind blast comes off CD perfectly after SW:P and you've got freshly applied dots so you're free to get a full inner focus MF3 with your buffed spellpower. When multi dotting targets that live long enough for reapplication I very much prefer to cast VT's sequentially before applying SW:P. It's a very slight dps increase but it's mostly to make reapplication easier, which for my smoothbrain equals more uptime. I still use SW:D for timing dot applications. IE you notice you'll have 1 second left on DP after finishing your MF3. You can either channel a MF2 then reapply, or SW:D->DP. I'm not sure how much haste/sp is needed for this to be a loss. But in current gear it still "feels" correct. Although it's very niche, maybe getting 2 casts in a fight. Also during movement, it's a great time to recast DP after SW:D. Ignis knockup is a great example of this. You can SW:D on the way up and recast DP on the way down. Please don't take this as criticism! Just adding a couple thoughts. Overall I think it's a very well made and concise guide. Edit: I should mention I only use that opener on patchwork style fights, but lolulduar.
Tackling these in order of your post 1. I literally got my 4p last night so haven’t done much experimentation but the sim hasn’t shown any of what you’re saying to be a dps increase. It may be something that feels better due to timings though. I don’t understand the first mind flay 3 as you’d be applying swp a tick late, but if its purely to avoid double casting DP then could make sense when trying to save mana 2. Spreading VT first is always correct. I tend not to do it on 2 targets but that’s just laziness on my part. Always the play and the more targets you’re dotting the more it’s worth 3. I use SWD during dot reapplication as well but as gear scales it’s going to be more niche than it already is. I thought adding it into the guide would hurt more than it would help since the uses are so few and far between. There is an awesome WA that calculates when it’s worth it to use swd so I’ll add that to this post so everyone can use it 4. Definitely correct to spam DP on the move. Really good video got me understanding Spriest a lot better. The only thing I'm really confused about is when do I use SWD? I see the glyph can make it deal 10% more damage below 35% but when do I weave it if at all?
It’s kind of a worthless spell in Wotlk even with the glyph. There are niche circumstances when it’s a dps upgrade but that’s only once or twice throughout a fight so I didn’t mention it as misusing it will cost you more dps than you could gain. IMO save it for movement and don’t use the glyph
Theres a really good WA called Dont use mind blast, that I use. It shows you when using MB would be a waste of haste from the 4piece. It comes in handy. I also use the fojii sw:p snapshotter WA. Gives a nice % visual on when reapplying sw:p would be worth it. Generally its during all SP/crit modifiers in encounters, but it's nice to have if one forgets
Cast swp at 5 stacks of shadow weaving. Swd isn’t used cause it’s garbage in wrath. It has niche uses but those go away with higher gear. Use swd for movement only
Awesome guides man love the content. Question - in the case where your best weapon doesn't have Crit on it (I currently have the Staff off Hodir 25), is it best to swap to a High Crit weapon before the Sw:P snapshot?
You can but it’s such a minimal dps gain that I do not do this. SWP is such a weak spell that it’s not worth doing in my opinion It different for locks and corruption. Since corruption benefits from haste it provides so much more dps than swp so it is much higher value for them Glad you’re enjoying the content!
Awesome video! Although, isn't there a macro that does not allow you to stop the channel of mind flay early? Pretty sure I remember using that to never clip mind flay allowing me to just spam my keys without a worry (also, as tier 10 MF becomes primary and more important than MB and everyone knows you can't spam MF key repeatedly)
The nochanneling macro you’re talking about is a dps loss. It introduces additional lag between casts where casting a spell manually after mind flay does not have that lag. Also you can’t clip this cast which is a second reason it’s a dps loss Also in T10 mind blast will mostly fall out of your rotation so mind flay will be cast repeatedly while not reapplying dots. Though you may still cast blast on occasion (not entirely sure yet tbh) but I’ll have another rotation guide for T10 as we approach ICC. I don’t know what you mean by not being able to spam flay as you’ll be casting it in succession for most of the fight with the T10 4 piece bonus
@@Pants_Gaming I meant that you can't spam the mind flay keybind while it is channeling as it will stop the current channel (once off the GCD) and start casting a new one 😅 ok, I didn't that about the channeling macro, I will not use it...
Where do you combo inner focus with? I've always done it with MB but I think I see you cast it with mindflay. I made the assumption a hard crit MB paired with no mana cost was better but maybe, as mana isn't much of a issue more you pair it with flay as its more damage?
I’m an alt spriest, so I don’t know all the ins and outs, but was just thinking today about swapping up the rotation based around 4 piece t8…what if we open with mindblast into a VT/DP w/ the haste buff….and also on that note, what do you think about saving MB for a 3 second left of either VT/DP (ideally both falling off at the same time) to make sure the haste buff hits a “long cast” being the duration of DP/VT, as opposed to simply making mind flay, a “short cast” slightly shorter, would there be value there? Conceptually less mindblasts throughout, but insuring the haste buff gets maximized w/ high damage casts.
The shadow priest discord has done a lot of work regarding this. The short answer is no. You don’t change your rotation at all as it doesn’t provide enough benefit since the 240 haste is only 7% haste. The opener is different though as it depends on your gear. On the shadow priest sim you can select precasting mind blast to see if it’s better than VT. I’ve never had it be a dps upgrade for me personally but you can check it out and see if it is with your gear wowsims.github.io
honestly im not sure on that one. it's so minimal that I've never looked into it. I probably could've timed that better so that I started casting vt when the dots had < 1 second on their timers. in that case you want to cast VT because of the cast time
Why do you cast mb while lust? I thought you should just spam mf and dotting up while lust?! -> I read this in the shadowprist class discord. Great video so far!
At current gear levels mind blast is more damage per cast time than mind flay even during lust. This can be different for trolls if they use berserking with lust. As our gear scales with more haste and spell power mind flay will be worth casting over mind blast but that's not going to be until late in the expansion
Why don't you cast swp as 2nd ability after you precast your Vt? Both MB and Mindflay will benefit from a 10% damage increase. Ive seen more guides saying you DP and MB before but to me it makes no sence
So it is actually cast but it’s hard to tell because the newly casted DP has the same duration as the old DP on the dummy. Lust comes out, I cast mind flay, swp, and then DP. You can tell by closely looking at my spriest weakaura in the center of the screen. The DP icon gets shaded as the timer counts down but that shaded area resets once I recast, despite the timer reading the same number This happens at 5:46 This was my second video so definitely could’ve done a better job highlighting my casts and syncing up the audio and video
@@Pants_Gaming The nameplayes were super small when I imported your profile, looked nothing like your video. Imported someone else's and worked fine. Cheers. later tater
The sim does not use engi gloves on the second DP and shows it as a DPS loss. It still prioritizes them at 0 for the initial DP. Is the sim different for your gear? I guess you could argue that if you have ANY downtime in the first few casts (due to boss positioning, etc.), it's probably better to wait on gloves.
Yeah that was a mistake on my part. Correct that you shouldn't if there is any movement in the beginning of a fight and I think my brain has been configured not to use them on pull from Ulduar since it doesn't make sense to on most fights. In a pure single target fight with no movement you absolutely should trinkets/engi gloves on pull
At the end of the Bloodlust here you had about 8 second left on Devouring Plague. Wouldn't it have been a DPS increase to then re-cast DP just to snapshot the Bloodlust onto a fresh DP?
What about using devouring plague when on the move like during Saftey dance in naxx, it does instant damage and is instant cast so in that kind of unique sit could be used to more damage while death is on CD
@@Pants_Gaming If you precast MB instead of VT in your opening rotation it can result in higher DPS with 4set. Linelo added a precast MB option to the sim, so I'd recommend checking that out.
My guild tells me that there’s something called a mind flay macro. Do you know what that is? I’m guessing it’s something that you can just spam to hit another mind flay the millisecond a previous 3 tick one ends but I can’t find it online
The nochanneling macro you’re talking about is a dps loss. It introduces additional lag between casts where casting a spell manually after mind flay does not have that lag. Also you can’t clip this cast which is a second reason it’s a dps loss.
@@Pants_Gaming thank you for the quick reply and thank you for making this guide. This will be helpful breaking through to the next level. I get what you’re saying with the potential latency associated with a macro, but planned to get around the clipping component by having a separate bind for flays that’ll be clipped and flays that I know will be full cast, such as when all dots have more than 6 seconds remaining and I just used mind blast. But that just seems like a whole lot of extra work for nothing
No you almost never cast it. Only if you’re moving and there are rare occasions when reapplying dots. Though I would only cast it on the move if I were you
@@STioobie always fall off. for VT you want to time it so you have less than 1 second left on it's timer when you start your cast. That way the last tick will deal damage and you almost instantly reapply VT. DP recast once it falls off
Dont think spriests use mind blast if they have ret with blue judge it's just for mana and doesnt do enough damage to just skip mind flay if i remember correctly
What about the rotation of our new set where MB gives haste, been testing it i think if u cast VT, mind blast then DP is more dmg since Dp gets the added haste. Nt sure if i should cast mind blast first into VT then DP. would like to know ur thoughts on the rotation with the new set bonus
My profiles for Elvui and plater are in my ui video. But if you really want my whole setup I can set up a Dropbox for my addon and wtf folders tomorrow
I think in the opener if lusting immediately, Pre cast Mind Blast(with Wild Magic), Gloves, VT, DP, Flay. That way your first VT and DP are effected by Gloves/MB 4pc buff and Lust off the bat without having to recast. That's gotta be the burstiest opener no? Especially if lust goes off immediately after MB, 3 considerable haste buffs.
You should never lust immediately in my opinion. If you use lust immediately then those first few globals are spent putting up debuffs and wasting the raids use of bloodlust as everyone is not casting their most damaging abilities until a few seconds later. Classes like shamans and priests want to get out their pets before lust so they need time at the start of the fight to set everything up.
Meanwhile I got kicked out of every single "top guild" on all warmane's realms in both factions because I said crit potions in most situations are optimal and got into a fight with toP GmS and ToP sPriEsTs on that dog server, everyone and their mother both precasts and later uses haste potions, in every situation, every scenario, every boss and every gear, it's hilarious how low the IQ of those players is. It’s in the video description!
@@Pants_Gaming Got it, thx :)))))
Awesome video!
You dont use Sw:D in the rotation? Or is it only when moving? Maybe I missed that 😊
Theres a really good WA called Dont use mind blast, that I use.
Got a wa for pain as well. Only problem is. I dont know at what % its worth reapplying pain. Especially with fight length being a variable 😅
5:45 in this rotation, you don’t say shadow word pain at all… but I see it’s casted, so when would u cast it?
It looks like you cast it before the last tick of the first two back to back mind flays, if that makes sense, yeah?
I also heard zero about shadow word death… that’s not apart of the rotation at all? That seems weird
Cast swp at 5 stacks of shadow weaving. Swd isn’t used cause it’s garbage in wrath. It has niche uses but those go away with higher gear. Use swd for movement only
@@Pants_Gaming amazing, thanks so much!
SWP is such a weak spell that it’s not worth doing in my opinion
It different for locks and corruption. Since corruption benefits from haste it provides so much more dps than swp so it is much higher value for them
Glad you’re enjoying the content!
mmmm some really helpful tips thankyou
No problem!
Rly good spriest vid!
Thank you!
hey, awesome guide helped me a lot! is there a way cou can link the weakaura?
Awesome video! Although, isn't there a macro that does not allow you to stop the channel of mind flay early? Pretty sure I remember using that to never clip mind flay allowing me to just spam my keys without a worry (also, as tier 10 MF becomes primary and more important than MB and everyone knows you can't spam MF key repeatedly)
The nochanneling macro you’re talking about is a dps loss. It introduces additional lag between casts where casting a spell manually after mind flay does not have that lag. Also you can’t clip this cast which is a second reason it’s a dps loss
Also in T10 mind blast will mostly fall out of your rotation so mind flay will be cast repeatedly while not reapplying dots.
Ye I simed precasting both... precasting MB sim 50-75 higher then precasting Touch, for myself at leasst!
hello which addons are you using for target and you character frames, and DoT spells drain down list on the left?
at 7:33 I saw you prioed casting vamp touch over devouring plague, Is that the actual prio?
honestly im not sure on that one. it's so minimal that I've never looked into it. I probably could've timed that better so that I started casting vt when the dots had < 1 second on their timers. in that case you want to cast VT because of the cast time
great video ty
The Advanced rotation, is it just viable when guild pop Bloodlust at start? or should always start with advance rotation + shadowfiend?
shadowfiend will depend on the fight but you should always do the advanced rotation if you feel comfortable doing it
Why do you cast mb while lust?
Check out the shadow priest discord at discord.gg/classicshadow
A lot of your questions are pretty basic and can be answered there in the pins
@@Pants_Gaming alright mate I'll check it out, thank you
5:51 I don’t think you recast DP there, the cd shows it never got refreshed
So it is actually cast but it’s hard to tell because the newly casted DP has the same duration as the old DP on the dummy. Lust comes out, I cast mind flay, swp, and then DP.
You can tell by closely looking at my spriest weakaura in the center of the screen. The DP icon gets shaded as the timer counts down but that shaded area resets once I recast, despite the timer reading the same number
This happens at 5:46
This was my second video so definitely could’ve done a better job highlighting my casts and syncing up the audio and video
@@Pants_Gaming gotcha, thanks for the reply
Do you have a plater profile I can copy? I like how small and simple your bars are.
in the description of my UI Video
@@Pants_Gaming I copied it and it looks nothing like in the video for some reason lol
@@SilentKME you did something wrong then. I just tested it and it's exactly the same
@@Pants_Gaming The nameplayes were super small when I imported your profile, looked nothing like your video. Imported someone else's and worked fine. Cheers. later tater
Again, you did something wrong
Is that passion's WA or yours. If not, please link
It's Fojji's Priest WA's. Here's the link wago.io/vs8uwOVD3
At the end of the Bloodlust here you had about 8 second left on Devouring Plague.
Wouldn't it have been a DPS increase to then re-cast DP just to snapshot the Bloodlust onto a fresh DP?
16:18
What about using devouring plague when on the move like during Saftey dance in naxx, it does instant damage and is instant cast so in that kind of unique sit could be used to more damage while death is on CD
Yeah I didn’t cover that in this video but it’s what you want to do. Use sw:d first and then DP spam until you stop moving
whats the spell bar at the top left that gives you the timers for BP and stuff.. i need to know :D
Here you go wago.io/FMPBah6sw
wth, where did this lust with shadowfiend come from?
With 4pcs T8 I am still not sure whether MB should be the opener or still VT.
depends on your gear. use the sim to see which is better for you wowsims.github.io/wotlk/shadow_priest/
With T8 4pc, would you open with Mind Blast instead of Vampiric Touch for the extra haste on your first VT/DP cast?
No the T8 4p bonus doesn’t change your rotation at all, it’s just a nice haste bonus
@@Pants_Gaming If you precast MB instead of VT in your opening rotation it can result in higher DPS with 4set. Linelo added a precast MB option to the sim, so I'd recommend checking that out.
@@CallCarsonMe Thanks for letting me know! I'll have to take a look
why shadow word pain is last in order?
Does this change in p3 due to the haste buff gained by MB on your 4 set
nope nothing changes. just enjoy the haste
Hey om your WA it has red numbere under pain -6.9% whst does that mean. I have the addon and when I do it it does the same or it gives me 5.7% or - %
Red means if you recast shadow word pain you’ll weaken your snapshot and do less damage. Green means you can improve your snapshot by recasting
@@Pants_Gaming thank you sooo much!!! you been a big help.. i hope you get the girl of your dreams man...
This may be the dumbest question you get but does Vampiric Embrace only heal your group or can it heal the raid?
Read the tooltip. It says party only ;)
@@Pants_Gaming Yeah I read that but was going by what someone told me….🫠 Thanks for the quick reply!
you're the guild leader right?
Nope, just a raider
But that just seems like a whole lot of extra work for nothing
it'd be nice to have a section on talents :\
I'll have a video out on talents next week :D
so do we not cast shadow word: death on CD?
No you almost never cast it. Only if you’re moving and there are rare occasions when reapplying dots. Though I would only cast it on the move if I were you
@@Pants_Gaming thanks i been doing this wrong all this time casting it on CD
Another scenario could be during Ignis when he casts jets and you’re thrown into the air, I cast SW:D while mid air
Another question do i let my dots fall off and reapply or reapply before they drop?
@@STioobie always fall off. for VT you want to time it so you have less than 1 second left on it's timer when you start your cast. That way the last tick will deal damage and you almost instantly reapply VT. DP recast once it falls off
what do i have to do to make my dmg numbers look like yours?
That’s from Elvui. I changed the combat text to the font Expressway
Dont think spriests use mind blast if they have ret with blue judge it's just for mana and doesnt do enough damage to just skip mind flay if i remember correctly
You don't remember correctly. You only drop mind blast from the rotation when you get 4 piece tier 10 from ICC.
@@lsthatadeer Or if you have extreme levels of haste such as during General Vezax.
What about the rotation of our new set where MB gives haste, been testing it i think if u cast VT, mind blast then DP is more dmg since Dp gets the added haste. Nt sure if i should cast mind blast first into VT then DP. would like to know ur thoughts on the rotation with the new set bonus
Your rotation doesn’t change because of the bonus haste. So keep doing the same thing and keep pumping!
Can you just copy your addon folder so we can just copy all your addons with the same adjustments you have? Pleaseeee :p
I also looked on your discord and it looks like you have a file for each addon separately.

I’m the advanced guide when are you casting shadow word pain?
@5:43 once I get 5 stacks of shadow weaving after the 2 tick mind flay. My bad for not saying that
@@Pants_Gaming THANK YOU!! : )
Easy to learn. Extremely meticulous to master. People say warlock is harder. Yeah....ok....
Used to main lock and Id say theyre about equally difficult.
Hell, these are the same people playing fire mage on Sindra with bis gear, then again, that is everyone, I guess 10 yesrs is not enough for people to pick up on the most obvious shit in a game 😂
This is the first non dogshit guide ive ever found
