    You will be able to use it with android device. When you connect to your Android phone select pc/mac option. It will work. I have tested it with zoom H6. It worked

      Thanks for the contribution! I will have to test it though, since the H6 is quite a bit more advanced than the H1n.

    *I use an Android device and I use the Zoom H1n mounted on my smartphone rig and it works great recording in a convention hall. So it DOES work with Android to record audio while shooting video. Good informative video, btw.*

      Ans thanks for the contribution as well! Quick question, do you set the H1n so that the USB is in PC Mode, and then it works with your android device?

    Hi Roger. I tried connecting my Zoom H1n to my Pixel 2 via USB C adapter and gave the option to use as an audio interface for PC/Mac in the H1n. It works fine in the Pixel 2. At least for phone calls. Yet to test it in Zoom meetings. Cheers.

    Thank you so much Roger for your clear, concise exclamation of the Zoom H1N. I am a complete novice when it comes to sound recorders and you explained everything so clearly. I just have one question and it is with regard to the card; is it better to use a MicroSDor a MicroSDHC? What is the difference and what write/read speed should i get? Thanks again Jim

    • @RogerinFinland
      @RogerinFinland  Рік тому

      Hi there, and happy to help!
      So, about the cards. MicroSD is the size you want (physical size). Then the difference between SDHC and SDXC is just capacity, SDHC go up to 32GB and SDXC are above 32GB.
      I am not 100% sure but it's possible that the H1n doesn't accept SDXC, so to be safe get a 32GB SDHC. That is still A LOT of capacity when recording audio.
      About the speed, in general "the faster the better". However, the audio data rates are low enough so that you don't really need to be concerned about write speeds at all. Read speed will make a difference when copying from the card to the computer. In that case the card reader is usually the limitation.
      For example, I have a bunch of 170MB/s or even 250MB/s read speed cards, but my laptop card reader doesn't usually do anything faster than 80MB/s.
      Hopefully thi answered your questions!

    Just to be completely sure: Is the mic/line in jack truly STEREO?
    For example, can I record the stereo mixdown from an analog mixer and keeping the stereo width?
    Or does the H1n downmix everything to mono when using the mic/line in?

    Great content. Do you have advice on how to configure audio settings for the LUMIX G9. It has an audio level scale which can be set to -6db, but I have seen some videos, (for other manufacturers camera) using the headphone volume settings to get the audio settings. Kind regards.

    • @RogerinFinland
      @RogerinFinland  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the positive feedback!
      The -6dB on the G9 is the gain of its preamps. You need to set both, the gain of the G9 and the output of the H1n (the output volume) so that the audio levels on the G9 (looking at the meters) do peak somewhere between -12 and -6dB. The recommendation would be to have higher gain in the H1n and less in the G9.
      In general I prefer to set the camera to some auto levels, record to the H1n (not plugged into the camera) and sync in post.

    Great Tutorial,will the H1N only except a 32gb Card? also I want to use the H1N for band rehearsals(4 piece Rock Band) have you got any approx settings I should try.I will be recording in wav 44.1k .

    • @RogerinFinland
      @RogerinFinland  2 роки тому +1

      I don't have it with me right now, but I think I have a 64GB card in it.
      Anyway, 16bit 44.1K has a bitrate of ~1400Kbps (635MB/h) so 32GB gives you a bit over 50 hours of recording time 👍🏻😊

    Is it possible to record voice from an external mic (BOYA BY-WM8 Pro) AND internal mic simultaneously?

    • @RogerinFinland
      @RogerinFinland  2 роки тому +1

      No, that's not possible. The H1n records only one stereo track at a time, either the integrated mic or something plugged in the 3.5mm line in.
      As soon as you plug something to the 3.5mm input the XY integrated mic is disabled.

    Can i record sound from mixer, if yes, please recommend me the cable/jack.

    • @RogerinFinland
      @RogerinFinland  Рік тому

      Not sure if I understand the question. The H1n is not a mixer, it's a recorder.
      If you want to record the output of the H1n into something else, like a camera, you will just need a 3.5mm TRS to TRS cable.

    Hello,i would like to ask for your help.I have a problem with my h1n.Recently i tried to change my settings for a better sound.The only thing i changed was the sound format from mp3 320 to wav 48k 24bit however while i was recording i noticed that hn1 makes marks by itself and when i stop recording the sound is half of what i recorded.For example a sound of 10 minutes long when i click the stop button and click the play button to hear what i recorded is 5 minutes long and half of my sound is missing skipping parts of what i recorded.I searched everywhere and i can't find anyone facing the same issue.All my other settings are off (limiter,lo cut,auto level,auto rec,pre rec, self timer,sound mark).I tried factory settings,tried changing batteries,updating filmware.NOTHING IS WORKING.Also everytime i turn on and off hn1 i have to set date and time.Can you please help me?Is there anyway to fix it? I even open the device inside but it doesn't seem something is wrong or broken.

    Hi Roger, I have started using H1n to record dialogue for weddings, but it does this windy effect, when the voice changes the sequence. Is there any way to improve this ? or only post production? I would be grateful for your reply

    • @RogerinFinland
      @RogerinFinland  Рік тому

      What so you mean by "when the voice changes the sequence"? And, does the "Windy effect" sound like increased noise level?

    • @anzak9284
      @anzak9284 Рік тому

      @@RogerinFinland yes,a good example would be when they laugh then I get this "breeze" otherwise the quality of the audio is great. Thank you !

    • @RogerinFinland
      @RogerinFinland  Рік тому

      All right, so two things come to mind:
      If the noise happens during silences (no speaking) you might have the autolevel turned on, which will boost the signal (and noise) during silences.
      If the breezy sound happens during laughter, that is likely due to the spikes in air pressure (we expel air fatser when laughing, coughing or sneezing). The solution is a dead cat or wind muff.
      Hopefully this helps!

    • @anzak9284
      @anzak9284 Рік тому +1

      @@RogerinFinland thank you for all your advice, I think dead cat or wind muff won't be a great option for me because I attach the recorder to the microphone, and will look funny, it's already junky enough 😅 I saw other wedding videographers doing it so it thought h1n would be a good option for me,but maybe its not. :((((

    how to seperate overdubbed track layers on computer?

    • @RogerinFinland
      @RogerinFinland  2 роки тому

      You can't do that. The overdubs are recorded on top of the previous track, as the H1n is only capable of handling a single stereo track at a time.
