Thanks Jon for the video. This has solved the mystery 'check drain' that we had been getting. I had checked the drain outlet so many times only to find it empty. After watching your video i cleared the black tube which was full of 20 years of gunk. FYI the tool to remove the screws was a T20 and i also found it useful to fit a garden hose over the Y piece and blast through the gunk out that way. Thanks again.
Hi John , Thanks for your filming of your project and solo efforts to clean your Miele. On a very similar mission myself recently with a 9 year old ( juvenile?) Miele washing machine W 3370 I found very similar blockages within the top 1" diameter ( thin ) pipes . A strong tap rinse produced a ball or wedge of fluff containing or centered on two plastic clips - the sort used to hold on newly bought clothing or linen to cardboard within the original packaging! Also gunge in the larger pipes that I managed to also remove and clean...not withstanding the back of the dispenser drawer . I lost my ecoball down the loo and eventually sourced a replacement from a Miele spares company that also refused to take card details over the phone or by email!.
This excellent fix worked for me last night. We had been getting 'excess detergent' light for ages, and we initially thought it was because we had changed to more concentrated powder the machine didn't like. The clothes were washed fine, but were wetter than they used to be after every spin cycle. The main waste, pump and filter were fine, but black pipes shown in this video were totally blocked with what looked like thick wet cement, and it took quite a lot of effort to clear. Opening the side as seen in the video was awkward, but I didn't want to disturb the front, either. Managed it by removing the top and rear side-panel screws, and finally using a large flat screwdriver to lever the side panel off the bottom of the machine. That allowed it to open about 45 degrees - enough for me to access all the pipes and pump without disturbing the front. Anyway, the machine works like brand new again, and it's 11 years old and used in a hard water area. A big thanks for putting this video up. 👍
Hi. Thanks for the videos. Worked a treat. I had tried everything else and had concluded it was a failing pump. Tubes cleaned out and refitted and the machine now functions great.
Thanks for the video, after replacing the dampers and not solving the problem I cleared the small black tube which was totally blocked. Thanks for your video!
Thanks for a great video. I have one question about the lid that covers the little ball on top of the waste mekanism. Was there a gasket in the lid? When I removed my lid there was a rubbery sound like something fell down. Can't seem to find it now...
Useful video. My w526 side panel has some kind of catch at the bottom. I can free the top edge and back edge of the panel but not the bottom. Any tips on how to get the bottom edge free?
hi Stuart, I believe the panel lowers out off the catch as all the bolts on the front, back and top are removed and then you pull the top of the panel a bit away from the machine. I hope this is (still) helpful for you.
@@musicteacha Thanks, I worked it out in the end. It was because I was trying to remove the side without taking the front off. I had the same issue as you. Excess detergent warning and not draining properly. Cleaned out the black pipes as you did and it is now working fine again.
We’ve had this for about 14 / 15 years and still working fine. Apart from cleaning pipes as per video have emptied front filter a few times and cleaned the inlet hose junctions at back of machine. Otherwise no problems.

I did this job on my W1914 today, I used a compressor to clear and the grey sludge snake from the long pipe made it half way down the garden!
That sounds incredibly satisfying

Halleluja! This totally worked! My tubes on the Miele w5741 were 90% clogged. Disgusting job, but so worth it! 🙏🏻
Excellent, the 'long tube' was completely blocked.. The machine now drains and spins as efficiently as it did when new. Thank you
Thanks! Both tubes clogged on our old Miele.
Great Glad it helped. Ours is still going strong, 15 years old now.
Hi John
Thank you so much for this, it has been very helpful those pipes were full of some disgusting stuff.
Top man, tried everything else so will give it a try 👍
Thanks- this helped me. There was a piece of plastic stuck in the y piece
I have the same machine and done this also to mine and a friends machine😃

Yes rubber seal
Informative video. Would you know how the water level can be raised manually on a W5943? It would be greatly appreciated.
Why would you want to raise the water level? Because something is wrong with the machine?
How do you pull the hoses off - they are very tight fits
Does somebody know what the white box in the back is for? In dutch they call it a 'water return flow protection' or a 'rising pipe'
Thanks awesome vid
Very helpful Thnx for posting.
My pleasure. Hope it helps 👍
Do I have to open the side covers to replace the shock absorbers?
My machine is 15 years old i was getting 'check detergent' fault, and it was not draining and spinning out the water correctly.

For how many years do you have this washing machine and does it still work after this fix? I am using once a month limescale remover in mine

@@johnfharvey that is awesome! Well now I know how to do it thanks to you, if you ever decide to clean again record it ;)
