  • Meet Jim Parks, a 99-year-old Canadian war hero. He joined the Canadian Army two weeks before his 16th birthday in 1940, lying his way in. By June 1944, Jim was 19 years old, a part of a mortar platoon of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. He recalls storming Juno Beach in the early hours of D-Day. Jim remembers the death of his friend alongside him as the Canadians pushed toward the beachhead. After the beaches were secured, the 12th SS Panzer Division launched a counter-attack on the Canadians. After D-Day, Jim’s unit continued the fight against the Germans, where he would see months of combat in Holland. Thank you, Jim, for your service, and thank you, Zach Dunn, for introducing him to me.
