This is the first time I watched "Ah Hong is Bored" and was so thrilled and entertained by the walk-about. There were 2 things in particular: first, it takes a personality to do what you're passionate about and that shows alot in your clip. Second, I could sense a story in relating to the elderly tailor who makes cheongsum for a living. Can you imagine how one feels in a changing landscape after working for 30 years and when your friends and loyal customers depart gradually, leaving this world - it must have been quite emotionally wrenching for her as she moves on with life. I hope to bring to light how many aged ones are grabbling with this fact of life and trying to move on in the aging society. Cheers to your work - like your video very much.
Ah Hong I am your new viewer, having tuned into UFM 100.3 earlier this year. Well done. I used to work in the area of this mall, another 1 that you featured. Keep up the good work.
29:02 This Brother brand sewing machine was common in households where stay-at-home mums like mine use it to sew for factories as sideline income :) There's actually an oil reservoir underneath the machine where you'll need to top up the sewing oil regularly (not cooking oil ah). I used to flip the sewing component up just to look at the oil reservoir and scrutinize how it greases the machine. Amazing machine. If only my mum's machine didn't break down and was kept. Sews very well as it's super sturdy.
The big club which got euro dancers and stage is at level 4, and it’s also the old cinema. On the right side first club if take escalator. It’s difficult to notice because from outside it look small and it have a front entrance.
My rich friend live near there and he said the working ladies became even more aggressive after Covid. His kids don’t like to walk pass there and had to to take a detour. I guess that’s why the authorities decided to close all the bars for good.
the classy auntie branded bags shop very interesting, although i can't afford to buy .. 🤣🤣🤣. The Cheongsum tailor shop, hope there more new customer engaging, Old customers pass on and rental forever increasing, very hard to survive.
I've been to this building last year! I felt somewhat dodgy at the ground floor at then and only went to B1. I hope other tenant would come in and the building get more welcoming atmosphere
Was a fan of the famous New Udon mookata back when it was in Golden mile complex so will go there to eat soon. I think people gonna feel weird when they hear "I'm going to Orchard towers to eat mookata" lol 😅😅😅
The cinema was later taken over by 1 of the only 2 known strip clubs in OT, Crazy Horse. The department store opposite the cinema was taken over by the other strip club, Naughty Girl, which converted itself to a bar and moved to a lower floor as you saw. Pretty sure they were one of the few known strip clubs back that survived the bygone days when Singapore wasn't that developed and was still considered one of SEA's known s*x tourism spots. My friend's dad used to work as a bartender in Crazy Horse in the 90s, people were straight up doing it everywhere 😶🌫
@@HongisBored Open secret that government didn't want it to be on record I guess. I went to Crazy Horse a few times in late 90s to attend birthday parties but that's it. To the best of my knowledge, it still had freelance strippers all the way up till 2016 at least. They don't openly advertise they have strippers, and they're very strict with entrance screening because s*x work is still illegal despite OT's reputation, don't want undercover AV to come ruin catch everyone. When you ask if they're employees, they'd just tell you those are "freelancers" while the girls themselves would lie to you that they're customers here to have fun(lj). It used to be a thing where if the diu diu diu restricts entrance to 21 years old and above only, it will have strippers or it's going to be more "wild". But it's not a thing anymore since 00s as some bars implemented 21 years old and above entry rules to ensure YPs and teens with fake ICs don't come ruin the night for actual working adults who's just there to have fun.
@@HongisBored We have quite a few, it's an open secret in a sense. I used to work as bartender for night clubs so it was a known thing, think illegal massage parlors where most people wouldn't think much of. It's not publicized because strip clubs are very certainly illegal, their dance platform is movable and they have people wearing ear piece stand guarding at both entrances, link bridge, and near escalator of each floor to report when AV is coming in. I was at Crazy Horse circa 2014 to celebrate my friend's 21st birthday, music suddenly stop as I saw the employees quickly push the movable dance platform with stripper pole into a hidden room at the back, then MC announce AV coming. There were definitely undercover AV or at least informants there, as the AV came in and immediately went to the hidden door where they hide the platform. OT had less raids compared to those strip clubs masquerading as thai discos/ktvs at Beach Rd area though, but I'm no longer working in the scene so no idea if it still exist. Even if it does, it'll be those "special hour" sleazy stuff where it only start after 1am.
