Loving this series. I may be an outlier here, but I LOVE the snobbiness and pretentiousness of wine culture. I like that it's serious and interpretive. To me, it's a form of art. For me, drinking it is akin to going to an art museum; although some art (like wine) is fun and playful, I generally wouldn't go to a museum to eff around. I go because I'm interested in being serious and truly taking in the art. I also love watching people make educated guesses on vintages and varieties. But then again, I'm also a natty wine lover so maybe I just don't get it 😝😝 Anyone else?

Hey hey! Thanks so much for the kind words! Nothing wrong with the loving the seriousness - although it's fun sometimes to be able to laugh at ourselves and not take it so seriously. LOVE your analogy of an art museum! That's kinda the beauty of art though, it's for everyone - irrespective of background or skill level - but of course, birds of a feather will flock together.

What do you mean the rest of the world is obsessed with cool climate fringe wine? Can you tease that out a bit? When ever I travel, all I see is an obsession with France, particularly with high income Asian countries like Singapore, Hong Kong etc.

Sure thing! I think there's a grammatical point to be made here - not 'fringe' wine - but the cool-climate 'fringe' - i.e. the edge of winemaking that 'cool/cold'. France being a big part of that - but usually the geographic 'top half' of France seems to be the focus more so than the warmer 'bottom half'. Or in Italy - the focus being on Barolo, Tuscany etc. Or in Sicily - it's Etna, and not the warmer flat-lands. As an industry, we tend to focus on cooler/colder = better. That may be the case, but the warm fringe of winemaking equally hasn't had dedicated to it, as many resources (historically) - so there's an argument to be made that there's a lot yet to be uncovered on that fringe - think Morocco, Lebanon, Inland Australia etc.
