Correction the theatrical version of a new hope never got released, unless you’ve got a 36 mm film (That you shouldn’t have 😜).
What those 2006 DVDs actually are are are THX versions from 95 (Although they did come out in 93 as part of the definitive collection on US laserdisc and George (in the case of a new hope) took the original opening crawl out and replaced it with the 36 mm film version.
