thanks a lot josh for including the linux segment! i was rather sad that u didnt include this for the spectre 14 but ill be getting one tomorrow anyway.
FYI, I got a new LNL MSI Prestige 13 and upgrading 6.12rc1 basically solved all hardware compatibility (otherwise Wifi and GPU were iffy) except for the Goodix fingerprint reader (a perrenial problem). Battery life manages to be quite good (

It feels like the Qualcomm laptops came at a bad time. Intel and AMD's competition has finally produced the great chips we wanted, so the benefits of Qualcomm's chips are no longer as attractive while their downsides remain. We are absolutely going to see the more premium Lunar Lake laptops soon (the Spectre x360 replacement just came out, for example).
Josh, your videos are great, they are very information dense while still being watchable and easy to follow, many other reviewers don't get that balance right. Was waiting for this review that answered my questions about the Slim 7i Aura., thank you!
A month ago I sell my MBA M1 and 3 days ago I received at home the Aura. As a Threadripper 3960X desktop PC user, when I don't need to do something powerful, the Aura is perfect for my needs. More than enough for daily tasks, quiet and it runs pretty cool.
I absolutely adore my MBA M1, but I am getting a Framework 13' as well for programming at work. The MBA is being made into a backup laptop. I think if you're an independent worker, it's good to have a backup laptop handy in case something happens to the main one :)
@@Winnetou17 I didn't go with a Mac this time because of the RAM issues. I run Docker containers and this is where the Mac pooped out. I'd have gone for an M3 MBA but they stop at 26 gigs of RAM. The MBPs are twice the price of the Framework I got. Other than RAM needs, the MBP seems overkill. Plus repairability of these laptops , upgradeability, and so on. For DevOps, I think Linux is still a better choice OS.
Really appreciate the linux test - the fact that it boots at all is great news and the issues that you're seeing usually get worked out within a couple of months of a new device shipping.
Great video Josh and it looks like Lunar Lake is incredibly promising for x86 for battery, performance and form factor Unfortunately the pricing for Yoga Slim 7i is all over the place outside the US. For example in New Zealand this laptop is priced at $4099NZD ~ $2566 USD, mean while if you compare against what Apple offers a base 14" M3 Pro 11 core MacBook Pro is $3999 ~ $2504 USD and the 16GB variant of 15" M3 MBA is $3199 NZD ~ $2002 USD With a pricing like this Lunar Lake is effectively dead in certain regions
That's an outrageous price in NZ! In Malaysia the 32gb 512gb version costs about USD1,432 before any discounts, less than the entry level MBA15 M3 8gb 256gb.
@PKperformanceEU Hi Tim Cook. Don't let the competition door hit youo n the way out! 😂 Seriously, the only complaints I have with this laptop is the RAM is maxed out at 32 GB (I use VMs, and 32 GB is just scraping by) and the lack of a dGPU. Though the latter point isn't an issue for the users of this laptop.
PC world and others disagree about the speakers, PC world says they are fantastic. other reviewers praise the speakers also, I think you should check what kind of audio you used to test the speaekers, because you are the only reviewer that has complained about the speakers., which is odd. I always listen to reviews about the speaker, because they are one of the more important features of a laptop for me. I just bought one, so I will soon find out when it is delivered whether everyone is wrong but you. I am so glad I checked out other reviewers before making a decision. They changed my mind about this laptop
I noticed that too, loved the review, but seemed to be some disagreement about speakers. Not as important for me, but would be a nice bonus. Let me know what you think. Also I heard reflections may be an issue, nothing that can't be resolved later with a screen protector but let me know about that too if you do come back :)
I heard somewhere that you need to change the pre configured audio settings and then they become incredible. So my assumption is that they didn't do it here,
I somewhat agree, I prefer IPS for productivity (research and writing), but OLED looks amazing for concent cunsomption or anything that has to do with graphical work. Also OLED only come with glossy finish that really struggle in imprefect lighting environments, while matt screens, though less sharp, deal better with reflections. With that said the new anti-reflective coating Samsung has on the new s24 Ultra and Tab S10 Ultra looks really good, I hope to see that on some laptops soon enough...
I look at my screen all day and prefer staring at the best display. Battery-life and longevity are fine on OLED. And no burn-in nor screen-door effect on my OLED panels.
Yeah Finally Someone testing Ableton for Performance ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ It's crazy how reviewers say "it's a productivity laptop" and don't test Music performance.
2:30 : In Windows, there's option to make power button unable to perform something, like sleep or shut down accidentally. 1. Go to "Control Panel" 2. Select "Power Options" 3. Click "Choose what the power button does" 4. When seeing "When I press the power button" option, set both on Battery and Plugged In "Do Nothing" Voila, now power button won't make this happened. Although It can be a problem if need to "Sleep" for some. I did said like this on previous videos. I guess someone has seen it or not. But that's what can I say
I think the s16 is a better laptop it weighs the same. It has a better 16-inch OLED, better ports, webcam, design, and speakers. It outperforms it and gets better battery life. I know it will be a little cooler and quieter, but that's it. I think the October heat wave is getting to you. But your spot on when you mention the P16. I saw a sale on it at Best Buy for 1699 for the 4060 hard for others to compete. I still think I'd take the s14 for a truly portable device.
In some regards yes. The low brightness in combination with the glossy display sucks, tho. It's also 400 bucks more expensive. Unsure I'd that's reasonable
Yea I really want to love the ProArt 16 too but being stuck at 60hz really is a deal breaker. Its a shame because at 1699 getting a 4060 dGPU, 32GB ram, an excellent 4k OLED screen really has the makings of a perfect laptop.
@marcopn1174 It's only 100 dollars difference at Best Buy! For the S16, 400 more for the Pro Art which is entirely a different class of laptop. As for 60 htz agree should be at least 90 but all laptops have downsides and the pros of this laptop far exceed that limitation. Pick one up and try it at 1699 it's the best laptop you can buy. I recently found out with g helper you can run it at 30 watts and for light use can get 15 hours of battery use.
Thanks for adding the linux segment! this is a high consideration for me when it comes to new laptops. Just an FYI, Linux (like windows) often downloads updates after first boot, of which can fix a lot of those initial hardware issues from the USB bootable.
In the uk, sorry and it was yesterday, thanks for review, was worried about getting one, but know made right choice after your great review, always value your reviews, best on the tube !
IPS is superior to OLED, especially a quality one like on this laptop. It looks as good (in some ways better) and doesn't have the flaws like burn-in risk, eyestrain, flicker. Side power buttons are a Godsend for anyone who uses the laptop docked with an external monitor.
Great review (as I have come to expect from Josh's no marketing BS approach) - can't wait till Lunar Lake become available for Framework laptops - might help aleviate the issues with intel battery life.🤫
80% of white-collar office works will love it. Full access to X-86 software, excellent single core CPU performance, good for photo editing, good for casual 1080p gaming, and excellent battery life for non-intensive laptop work. For the 20% that need heavy duty laptop work and full X-86 software access, go with the new AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 laptops. Also, the M3/M4 Max if X-86 software is not used for your daily intensive work.
I really appreciate your reviews that actually get in to the benchmarks but also includes the user experience side of things all the way to comparing it to other similar devices. Im surprised you didn't mention the features Lenovo offers with this specific laptop that standout from others (tap smart share) since I personally think something like Asus touchpad volume adjustment is practically a gimmick for something that's easily done with a button along with ceraluminum
~Crying in Brazilian~. The yoga 71 2-in-1 with the 125U simply doesn't exist here. Laptops with this new intel chips (lunar lake) will probably only come next year and will be very overpriced, and will take another few months until they get to a "normal" price.
Hi josh, with these new lunar lake laptops out do you still recommend the 13 inch surface laptop 7 (X-plus)? I’m a student using mainly office that wants excellent battery life and build quality. Edit: nevermind, just as I posted the comment the video answered my question hahaha. Keep up the great reviews!!
I always find it very interesting reviewers talking about the speakers of laptops. I never use them. What worries me, though, is those holes on both sides of the keyboard. I feel like they will get dirty and be VERY hard to clean.
Josh, I simply cannot skip your video whnever I open YT, I love your approach for testing new devices and how you keep it easy to understand every data presented. I would love to see your thoughts on the AMD version for this new Lenovo lineup (Yoga Pro 7, w/ Ryzen AI 365), I header it outperforms the Zenbook for quite a lot
Thank you so much. I've been hounding Lenovo for that laptop. I don't believe it's sold in the USA, that's why I can't get it but I'm trying to get someone in Europe to send it
@@JustJoshTech Yes, they are not bringing it to the USA again. More underhanded deals with Intel. Which is a good reason in its own right to never buy another Intel laptop. They are deliberately hurting the competition by limiting the configurations and even machines that come to the USA in order to protect their MarketShare. You should talk about this in all of your videos; so people don't get the wrong idea and think that Intel deserves anyones business.
Power button on side is not stupid, this is just lack of your undersanding why it is there. This allows to turn on device without opening lid if it is connected to monitor.
Josh's reviews are great. Simply his perception of "light" is a bit relative. As a long time owner and heavy user of LG Grams, I find he places disproportionately little weight... on the laptop's weight
This laptop goes for $2361(SGD) here is Singapore. After conversion, it is nearly 1800USD. Whats worse is that it is the same specs as shown in the video. Personally, i would wait until the m4 chips are announced, and then see whether i can pick up laptops with ryzen 8845HS or if im lucky a Ryzen AI 9 for $2000SGD For reference, 1 Canadian dollar=1 Singapore dollar or thereabouts.
Excellent recap as always Josh! Why is Lenovo gatekeeping the better oled panel for the yoga slim 7x and not putting it on the aura? I would consider this laptop but the inferior display is a deal breaker... Combine that with the poor speakers and this is not gonna cut it if your looking to steal customers away from the Asus zenbook s14/s16
I'm waiting for your review of the Zenbook 16 with Lunar Lake. My mum wants a premium Windows laptop, and if Lunar Lake can give more battery life than the Zen5 version, I'll get it! Plus OLED!
3:35 Omg I’M so interested in the deferent Oled panels used these laptops, a year ago I made a mistake and bought one which has I think the lower tier oled never again if I had known, I definitely wouldn’t have purchased that Asus laptop
Yes it can make a huge difference. I have a Lenovo Ideapad Slim 7 Carbon w/ 5800U & 400 Nit 90Hz 16:10 OLED and it is amazing. The other laptops I have seen with OLED panels are not nearly as good.
@@Jimster481 I have the vivobook s15 with 120 hz and 1620p Oled there is something about the quality it's good but the text seems sometimes unclear to me specially at night , there's buzzing noise coming from the motherboard when idle too and the colors of the display change when I go below 60% brightness , and trackpad sometimes flickers when resting my hand on the palm rest lol basically odd product that the warranty won't replace
I would love a review/ comparison with the Yoga Pro 7 gen 9 with AMD 9 AI 365. Coming both from Lenovo makes incredibly good laptops, I just need to figure out which one's the best
I think it would be really interesting to compare the Yoga Slim 7i Aura vs the Yoga Pro 7 Gen 9, since they are very similarly priced. Both of them are from Lenovo and with the newest chipsets from AMD/Intel. Where I‘m from the Yoga Pro 7 also comes with an OLED and I would be very interested in comparing these two laptops!
AMD will be the better choice. More power, better graphics, likely generally better thermals, definitely better longevity and the CPU doesn't come from a company that does underhanded deals to directly harm its competitors products.
I'm very susprised that you find the design boring as an old laptop, because the MacBooks are indeed very similar, but with an apple there. (Love your channel, Josh!)
Thank you Jost for this review, it just dissapointing that in this price range, Aura Edition has very mediocre webcam, speaker and especially the display is not the same quality with Slim 7X which is very brighter and has high quality color.
Apple is trash. The OS is trash, the hardware longevity is trash, the repairability is trash, the spyware is 100000% over everything else (hardware level spyware that is not able to be disabled).
Hey really appreciate the Linux review! A suggestion though, please specify which Kernel version you are running in those tests, and would be nice if you could test the latest Kernel version as those tend to have better support for new hardware.
@@JustJoshTech thanks for clarifying! If you do more linux tests in future videos please add the Kernel version alongside the distro, would help a ton. Keep up the great work!
In my country, this model is priced the exact same as the Vivobook 14 OLED, with the Ryzen 9 AI HX 370, 32gb ram and 1tb ssd. The vivobook is probably worse on single core performance and battery life, but it seems like a better deal. Am I stupid?
Would love to get the Pro Art for extra performance but the 60hz refresh rate is just too low, something slightly beefier than the aura while keeping its positives would be perfect.
Most recent Intel systems don't have updates in the Linux kernel for their wifi or touchpads. I suggest going to the package managers by doing a hotspot with a cellphone (making it into your USB router/USB wifi card) and installing what you need. For Intel wifi systems, it is usually iwlwifi
That doesnt help You cant even get it burnt to the ssd.. I've even tried to reformat the whole ssd. The bootloader needs certain firmware which is not provided, and you can't change the kernel from bootm
@@Username_Allocation_Shortage no, you generally change the kernel through some very specific bash commands and figuring out what repos have the kernel you want. I've done it with Fedora at least 5 times.
Depends on the level of video editing. If you are doing 4K with layers, I would buy neither, as you need a PC with a dGPU or more cores like in the MB Pro M3 Pro. Both of these are ultrabooks; you should not buy them if you are interested in extensive gaming or video editing.
Hey Josh, no mention of how AI runs or affects the overall performance of the laptop. Although still niche case scenarios at this point, MS 11 will just become more AI hungry as time progresses, like it or not. The lack of cores and lack of multi core performance in comparison to the Snapdragons right now might not make that big of a difference but 6-12 months from now, it may. Most people upgrade their laptop's every 3-5 years. You think these will hold up over that time period?
only problem with yoga series that you have missed (in this and all your previous videos) is the power button. It breaks easily within 2 years and is not replaceable. and I had to drill a hole in the chassy to power on the laptop.
@@JustJoshTech there's a repair shop guy on UA-cam named Salem techsperts, he also has faced the same problem. and in india after warranty I took my laptop to the service center they told me they can't fix it. so I had to drill a hole in the chassy.
Do you think the problem with the DJ program recordbox will be solved on all snapdragon devices within the next updates? For example on the yoga slim x7
That would really depend on the marketshare of Snapdragon laptops. Converting code to run on ARM isn't always easy so they would have to potentially invest considerable development time.
I hear they are selling poorly with high return rates, so I suspect devs are not rushing to update to WOA compatibility. I am still waiting for Bitdefender VPN and Google Drive; neither run at all on my X Elite.
Lenovo is really testing out with 2880, 2944 and 3072 resolutions. Out of those I find the 3072 is the most comfortable for 14.5, 15.3 inch displays with 200% scaling.
I don't understand why every laptop needs an OLED screen... a good IPS high refresh rate will be more battery efficient and if the resolution isn't crazy high it will look better...
I have a Surface Laptop 7 as my Windows PC and MacBook, which is IPS. OLEDs are great for phones and tablets, but they have too many downsides for laptops unless you mainly use them for watching video and gaming (not for this device).
Curious if you've thought about doing a rating system for laptops on your site, so each laptop is rated in a number of categories, including gaming, video editing, light tasks, battery life, heat, noise, etc so that people with multiple use cases can more intuitively make judgements on which to buy and where they can make compromises
We did originally but removed it as our rating system was outdated in 6 months due to new tech or better deals. It was confusing people. So occasionally we do use it in individual videos as they are at a point of time, but not on the website
My habit: Click on your video and give a thumbs up even before your videos load. Because I know your content will always be worth it. Highly recommended first to follow this guy. ❤
If you're not going to say it, I will: Snapdragon Laptops are dead (for now). ARM support will definitely improve, but I will never be able to use it as the programs I have to use are sometimes really old.
thanks for the nice video! love the channel :) I'm thinking about buying the new hp omnibook ultra flip. Would be awesome if you could review that one in one of your next videos!
Sorry Josh, but booting a Linux live USB with a stock kernel that does not have the Intel submitted patches is even contradictory, cause it was a clear fail before starting. It is like installing a clean Windows and not installing any driver. If you would install updates (for this you need to install the os) you would have a kernel 6.10 instead of a 6.8 You could have tested (with much success) a Fedora 41 beta, with much newer hardware support. Having a swappable NVMe drive, you could have a Linux distro installed in a drive, and plug it in on new computers to test Linux or re-install Linux. Anyhow, thanks for trying, but in this case it made little sense to run that Linux test.
For those interested in Linux support, there is a cople of reviews in Phoronix of the lunar lake 256v. One review of performance against other processors AMD/Intel(old)/Snapdragon and another of Win vs Linux performance. ;) But long story short, you need Kernel 6.12 for it to work. Very interesting/promising linux results anyhow.
I'm really unsure if I should get this one or the Zenbook S16 with the Ryzen AI HX CPU. (The Proart is too expensive) I do programming and currently own a desktop with a Ryzen 9 5900X, and I need a laptop for student work for college and for when I will attend university in about a year from now. Whilst I'm currently using my Laptop primarily for writing notes and occasionally coding so the Aura would be fine. But as I'm relying on sometimes quite time intensive Gradle build tasks on my PC and want to be able to do the same on my Laptop as well (as I don't know if I will have access to my PC because I might stay in an apartment near the university during the week and don't want to transport my desktop back and forth), I think I want more CPU cores and multithreaded performance? The biggest complaint I have with my current laptop is its battery life. Even whilst just writing on Word documents, that thing is dead in less than 2 hours and I can't even charge it with USB-C. I never use that thing without power saver mode. That's why I'm quite interested in Lunar Lake - but Zen 5 is also quite good and has more power. In my country the zenbook I would want (touchscreen, hx, 32gb ram) is about 1800€ whilst the Lunar Lake is about 1400€ - Which one should I get?
Asus products are somehow very overpriced outside of the US. Between the Slim 7i and the S16 I’d definitely go with the Slim 7i - performance isn’t as good on the S16 as on other Zen 5 laptops, also due to its very thin chassis
@@PlatinAviation Most products are more expensive outside of the US. As for the performance, I know, yeah. It's also only running on 30W, but I think it running more cores (and having more p cores) is quite a good argument for the Zenbook
Honestly the AMD system will be better, last longer and have better software support as well as support for Linux. These new Intel laptops are just like cut down versions of last years laptops to try to keep the temps and power under control.
Linux will probably work with the next versions like the Ubuntu coming in 1 week or so as it will have the new kernel (which means also newer drivers). You should test with that one.
Hey guys, I have a question - currently operate on: ASUS ROG Strix 712 Lu (2021) Intel i7-10750H 2.6 Ghz RAM 16 Gb DDR4 GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6 Gb The hardest task (but quite a lot of that use) is video editing. But overall like this machine from review! Will it give me same or better perfomance in video editing?
x86 is so close to making the ultimate MBA15 killer. This Aura Edition has slightly better display, better battery life, better keyboard, and is cool-to-the-touch. The Zenbook S 16 has far better display, equal speakers, good enough webcam. Both are lighter and have more port selection. The only place where both lose to the MBA15 is (arguably) the touchpad, but both vendors can do it because they've released laptops with haptic touchpads before.
At this price, in most countries, it actually competes closer to the MB Pro 14 M3 Pro chip (big discounts at the moment), so the Macbook beats it in nearly every metric with higher brightness miniLED, superior speakers, a much more performant chip, the greater battery life on medium-high workloads, better keyboard and trackpad, better IO, etc. That is before we talk about the M4 base model coming soon now starting with 16GB of RAM, and priced similarly.
@@andyH_England yeah but macbook is arm based and you cant game on it which means its glorified mobile phone chip for grandmas and hipsters not serious people so all othher specs are meaningless if it cant even do the basics
@@andyH_England no it does not. And it has discounts as well m3 is about to be replaced with more ai top speed. If you go apple get the m4 comparably equip at msrp this undercuts apple by a lot games and you can easily upgrade the faster add. Although I wish it had two for best performance
@@andyH_England In Malaysia this one with 32gb 512gb retails for USD1,420 before discount. MBP14 M3 Pro base model is much more expensive at USD2,360 and has only 16gb RAM. Not to mention that an upgrade to 1tb cost just USD50 while the same upgrade for the MBP14 M3 Pro base model is USD200. That big discount you talk about had better be really big!
you should also mention that the side "on/off" button is a common failure point in the lenovo yoga laptop, it is attached to the motherboard with a shitty plastic piece that tends to break easily and it's expensive to repair, such a bullshit. online you can find a lot of video about it.
honestly ive been waiting for the last couple of years for them to put the power button on top of the keyboard... Why put it on the side??? It is so painful
Wonderful review, as always, thank you very much. One thing I'm always confused about is when reviewers say that a laptop is fine for video editing, but might struggle with more demanding tasks...... I always thought that editing and rendering hi res videos is one of the most demanding things you can do? Or is it that those two elements are considered separate things - editing and rendering? I want to be able to edit and render concert videos on the go, and for it not to take an absolute age to render.... Would this laptop still be suitable for that? Am torn between this and Asus S16 HX370. Is editing more single core dependent and rendering more multi core? Thank you!
The tough thing as a reviewer, is that tasks like video editing or coding ... in fact most professional tasks... it depends on how complex your project is. For example if you are just using one set of 4K footage from a single camera with minor effects and color grades. No probs this will work. If you are doing what we do in our bigger videos where we may have 4 4K footages down sampled and played at the same time, while effects are applied.... these laptops will completely fall apart. So sorry to say, but it does depend
Thank you SO much Josh for taking the time to reply to me! Really love your channel, the quality of your reviews and the presentation. Keep up the amazing work! @@JustJoshTech

At this point the only way for Qualcomm to recover is if Microsoft can improve the translation layer for emulated x86

Unfortunately Joe Niche buys a Qualcomm laptop for the road and an Arc graphics card for at home ...
Microsoft wrote 85% of the translation layer, then patted themselves on the back and retired ...

So my assumption is that they didn't do it here,
Hey Josh (and team) - thanks so much for touching on Linux in this video, really appreciated! Your mom should be proud!!!
This guys reviews are great
Thank you! We love what we do and hopefully it shows!
I prefer IPS over OLED for better battery life, longevity, lack of burn-in, and I HATE the screen door effect on many OLED panels.
Yeah Finally Someone testing Ableton for Performance ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
It's crazy how reviewers say "it's a productivity laptop" and don't test Music performance.
Damn ... Just the 5s you spent on trying Fedora on this laptop was soo invaluable that I liked and Subscribed immediately ... Thank You
2:30 : In Windows, there's option to make power button unable to perform something, like sleep or shut down accidentally.
1. Go to "Control Panel"
2. Select "Power Options"
3. Click "Choose what the power button does"
4. When seeing "When I press the power button" option, set both on Battery and Plugged In "Do Nothing"
Voila, now power button won't make this happened. Although It can be a problem if need to "Sleep" for some. I did said like this on previous videos. I guess someone has seen it or not. But that's what can I say
Thank you for testing Linux!!!
Finally it’s here! 🎉🎉🎉
As always great! Thanks for the review especially for the comparison part with the competitors :)
@@gadgetsawol3614 yeah but dgpu means bad battery life, better to have desktop for heavy work and thin n light long battery ultrabook for travel
You'd hope so with that price difference 😄
@marcopn1174
It's only 100 dollars difference at Best Buy!
Power button is not stupid as it allows turning the laptop on without the need to open it. Those who dock will understand.
I heard that those lenovo side buttons break more often than the traditional button at the top not sure how valid that is though.
Agreed, and you can just disable the power button so it does nothing once the laptop is actually on.

Thanks for adding the linux segment! this is a high consideration for me when it comes to new laptops. Just an FYI, Linux (like windows) often downloads updates after first boot, of which can fix a lot of those initial hardware issues from the USB bootable.
I was waiting for this and about to ask when the review is coming, nice!

Great review (as I have come to expect from Josh's no marketing BS approach) - can't wait till Lunar Lake become available for Framework laptops - might help aleviate the issues with intel battery life.🤫
Such a great laptop. lenovo is killing it
80% of white-collar office works will love it.
Thank you so much for the linux segment, that is something that nobody shows
@Josh, you are reinventing the full form of SMT in every video. This time. :D. This time it was Symmetric Multi Threading.
Thanks for another honest review.
Thanks a ton Josh. I will be waiting for the new Yoga Pro 7 (AMD Ryzen AI 9) review in near future.
Great review as always, Josh! I'm interested in seeing which 16" models (other than the GB5P) will be available with these new chips.
Bravo good job josh 😊
I always find it very interesting reviewers talking about the speakers of laptops. I never use them.
What worries me, though, is those holes on both sides of the keyboard. I feel like they will get dirty and be VERY hard to clean.
In Sweden the only option is oled, and I prefer isp! Oled suck because of wight, glossy and burnin.
Yes burn in on a laptop that some people use up to 10 years is a no go!
this ips is glossy as well cus its touchscreen but it has better battery and no flicker like oled and no burnin like you say
I don't believe it's sold in the USA, that's why I can't get it but I'm trying to get someone in Europe to send it
@@JustJoshTech I saw that the guys from Hardware Canucks (Canada) got one after contacting AMD I think ;D
IPS is a feature, not a bug. Eye-searing contrast is not worth the crap battery life, screen door, poor brightness, and burn in.
Thank you for this. I really want a slim 7x build with a lunar lake CPU but its clear there are some differences in these laptops
I LOVE to see TIGHT HIGES on this 🙏🙏 thank you LENOVO
Power button on side is not stupid, this is just lack of your undersanding why it is there. This allows to turn on device without opening lid if it is connected to monitor.
Josh's reviews are great. Simply his perception of "light" is a bit relative. As a long time owner and heavy user of LG Grams, I find he places disproportionately little weight... on the laptop's weight
This laptop goes for $2361(SGD) here is Singapore. After conversion, it is nearly 1800USD. Whats worse is that it is the same specs as shown in the video. Personally, i would wait until the m4 chips are announced, and then see whether i can pick up laptops with ryzen 8845HS or if im lucky a Ryzen AI 9 for $2000SGD
For reference, 1 Canadian dollar=1 Singapore dollar or thereabouts.
Last year, they were cheap and nasty, and IPS were significantly better quality. Only this year we see quality OLED in these premium laptops.

Super nice video. How do you know which questions I am going to ask. You answered them all!
Hey really appreciate the Linux review! A suggestion though, please specify which Kernel version you are running in those tests, and would be nice if you could test the latest Kernel version as those tend to have better support for new hardware.
In our latest reviews we are using the newest version of Fedora to handle that. We are using the Beta branches btw.
I'd get the Aura. I think its a nicer machine. But it absolutely depends on your use case. The Vivobook you mentioned is powerful
That doesnt help
You cant even get it burnt to the ssd..
Yes
Zenbook S14 has OLED and Intel Core Ultra. Will wait for the 288V version to arrive and buy. 🙂
If I were to buy it for video editing, which would be better, MacBook Air or Yoga Slim?
I’d definitely go for the Yoga
Depends on the level of video editing. If you are doing 4K with layers, I would buy neither, as you need a PC with a dGPU or more cores like in the MB Pro M3 Pro. Both of these are ultrabooks; you should not buy them if you are interested in extensive gaming or video editing.
The air doesn’t even have a fan so you shouldn’t even really be considering it.
Wow. I haven't heard that before. I did mention it's placement
@@JustJoshTech there's a repair shop guy on UA-cam named Salem techsperts, he also has faced the same problem. and in india after warranty I took my laptop to the service center they told me they can't fix it. so I had to drill a hole in the chassy.
Once you go OLED there is no going back. Currently enjoying Zenbook 14X
Trust me if you use uncommon software avoid Snapdragon elite laptop at all cost, atleast today.
@@mrbobgamingmemes9558 Probably best to avoid it forever
I hear they are selling poorly with high return rates, so I suspect devs are not rushing to update to WOA compatibility. I am still waiting for Bitdefender VPN and Google Drive; neither run at all on my X Elite.
Lenovo is really testing out with 2880, 2944 and 3072 resolutions. Out of those I find the 3072 is the most comfortable for 14.5, 15.3 inch displays with 200% scaling.
I dont think i need more than 1600p on laptop . So anything higher is purely bonus
Thanks a lot for the review! How is the screen and reflection in the sun? There are so little good laptops with antiglare screens these days :/
I don't understand why every laptop needs an OLED screen... a good IPS high refresh rate will be more battery efficient and if the resolution isn't crazy high it will look better...
Well atleast for windows, better specs better chance of sale is what I've observed
I have a Surface Laptop 7 as my Windows PC and MacBook, which is IPS. OLEDs are great for phones and tablets, but they have too many downsides for laptops unless you mainly use them for watching video and gaming (not for this device).
Thanks for the review. As for the weight, Lenovo website states 1.46kg and Apple says MacBook air 15 weighs 1.51kg.
Yes we noticed that, but we weighed them ourselves and decided to match what we got!
What catch my attention is "Windows Activation watermark" there 😅😅😅
Curious if you've thought about doing a rating system for laptops on your site, so each laptop is rated in a number of categories, including gaming, video editing, light tasks, battery life, heat, noise, etc so that people with multiple use cases can more intuitively make judgements on which to buy and where they can make compromises
We did originally but removed it as our rating system was outdated in 6 months due to new tech or better deals. It was confusing people. So occasionally we do use it in individual videos as they are at a point of time, but not on the website
@@JustJoshTech I see, thanks for replying

I truly appreciate the Linux test. thanks
Sorry Josh, but booting a Linux live USB with a stock kernel that does not have the Intel submitted patches is even contradictory, cause it was a clear fail before starting. It is like installing a clean Windows and not installing any driver. If you would install updates (for this you need to install the os) you would have a kernel 6.10 instead of a 6.8
You could have tested (with much success) a Fedora 41 beta, with much newer hardware support.
Having a swappable NVMe drive, you could have a Linux distro installed in a drive, and plug it in on new computers to test Linux or re-install Linux.
Anyhow, thanks for trying, but in this case it made little sense to run that Linux test.
I am aware of this. We are already planning to do this in a specific video. I didn't want to delay this one
All I want is the Slim 7x with lunar lake.
the slim 7i is close, if that suits your needs!
I'm really unsure if I should get this one or the Zenbook S16 with the Ryzen AI HX CPU. (The Proart is too expensive)
I do programming and currently own a desktop with a Ryzen 9 5900X, and I need a laptop for student work for college and for when I will attend university in about a year from now.
Yeah I heard about that. Fedora 41 coming too. We will update for sure
@@JustJoshTech Good. I cannot wait for the new release (Ubuntu in my case), it looks like a good one.

The only place where both lose to the MBA15 is (arguably) the touchpad, but both vendors can do it because they've released laptops with haptic touchpads before.
much better display
At this price, in most countries, it actually competes closer to the MB Pro 14 M3 Pro chip (big discounts at the moment), so the Macbook beats it in nearly every metric with higher brightness miniLED, superior speakers, a much more performant chip, the greater battery life on medium-high workloads, better keyboard and trackpad, better IO, etc. That is before we talk about the M4 base model coming soon now starting with 16GB of RAM, and priced similarly.
