This is an absolute treasure that I have waiting to see again for 50 years. My childhood was dedicated to watching American Bandstand from 1970, 1971, & 1972. The years so very few performances have been preserved. What a dream come true.

I remember back in 1970 when "Indiana Wants Me" hit the AM airwaves. I used to sit by the radio all day hoping it got played. I must have called the radio station DAILY, sometimes more than once, requesting that song.
    R. Dean died at 82 this year back in January as a result of complications from Covid. Rest in Peace R. Dean, you will be missed but your music will live on.

    Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
    Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
    I wish I had you
    To talk to
If a man ever needed dyin', he did
No one had the right to say what he said
    About you
And it's so cold and lonely here without you
    Out there the law's a-comin'
I'm scared and so tired of runnin'
    Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
    Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
I wish I had you to talk to
It hurts to see the man that I've become
And to know I'll never see the morning sun shine on the land
I'll never see your smilin' face or touch your hand
If just once more I could see
You, our home, and our little baby
    Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
    Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
I wish I had you to talk to
I hope this letter finds its way to you
Forgive me, love, for the shame I put you through
    And all the tears
Hang on, love, to the memories of those happy years
Red lights are flashin' around me
Yeah, love, it looks like they found me
    Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
    Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
I wish I had you to talk to
    Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
    (Give yourself up)
    Indiana wants me
(This is the police, give yourself up)
Lord, I can't go back there
    (You are surrounded)

Thanks for sharing the lyrics to this wonderful song. It's really something when one is running from the law. One can't run forever eventually they'll finally catch up with you. This particular song is awesome one can run but one can't hide from the long arm of the law.

What a great song and a great song writer. They simply do not ( in my opinion) write songs now like they used to. The golden years of music is of the past. This is a beautiful, heart aching love song. RIP Richard Dean Taylor. ❤

This is the second interview I know about with him. He appeared in 1974 on BBC Radio One's Rosko's Roundtable at the time of his smash There's a Ghost in my House. He spoke about his Motown experiences and the other guests were stunned to hear that he played a major rol in writing for example, Bernadette. The interview is on a tape somewhere in my garage but I hope the BBC has not lost it. He was a remarkable man, if, as we see here, rather modest and unassuming. There are so many songs of his that will be remembered. RIP.

I thought Dick would ask him something along the lines of, "being a law-abiding Canadian, how did you come up with a song about a criminal on the run in Indiana, of all places"? Would be interesting to hear his answer ..

I think somebody told a while there are a handful of eps of AB from 1971-74 that ended up surviving the tape count is not many i know it was commonplace back then to erase the tape and use it again i think because tapes back then when were expensive(i hope that wasn't the reason) if the eps from that time period weren't destroyed or missing the surviving episode numbers would've been higher than 883 or 884

    • @wbchloe7168
      @wbchloe7168 2 роки тому +1

This is one of my tops on my wishlist. If the network gave the copies to Clark I knew they would have survived. I know possibly that Dick kept a lot of stuff even some of the set pieces. I read about a few surviving because they possibly previously stolen and returned. I read from some site but am not sure of it. This also might be an artist copy of performance not of the episode.
