I was at that taping of American Bandstand in 1984. Me and three other friends were dancing in the background having a great time. I was lucky to meet Terri Nunn after their performance. She was a cool chick. Dick Clark was very personable talking to us dancers during commercial break.
I also saw her at EPCOT half a dozen years or so ago and I hadn’t seen Berlin since they played Kings Island on my high school Grad Night in 1986. And yeah, she’s still got it. Was very engaging with the crowd. Her voice is still in great shape. …And she’s still smokin’ hot!
Terri Nunn auditioned for the part of Princess Leia in Star Wars - the videos of her audition with Harrison Ford is online. This song is so very Giorgio Moroder. The beginning is very similar to 'Rush Rush' that he did with Debbie Harry, he also used the sitar on 'Never ending Story' and the tempo here is similar to 'Thief of Hearts' that he did with Melissa Manchester.
Wow! This really takes me back I got goosebumps this band was very very good and way way before their time! She had everything a beautiful voice and gorgeous
So true.. If you are familiar with the recording, it's not hard to figure out they are lip-synching… 😂.. She was an actress as well, and you can tell..
This is not a question of their quality life I know they’re great, but I have a question for anybody of a technical background at the time. Is it true that used to make bands play with the album track when they played on TV? Somebody told me they couldn’t project live music through TV very well back in the 80s. during the performance, she holds the microphone a little bit away from her mouth, which is something a singer would never do. Then the keyboard is a little off time. Is that what they used to do with American bandstand is broadcast the album track?
Live music almost always sounds a little different than the album track - sometimes there is a backing track to fill in the sound. If you think about Ed Sullivan back in the 60’s some of the popular bands had recorded their album with Phil Spectors Wall of Sound (Tina Turner singing River Deep, Mountain High is a good example). To replicate that or Sonny & Cher and MANY others, would be impossible. The early years of The Doors, a four piece band, played live. There is one episode of Sullivan where the Mamas & Papas sing Creque Alley - right before they start, Cass says ‘cue tape’. There’s another performance where Michelle Phillips starts eating a banana mid song. Some sing to a track, others lip sync. My guess with shows like Bandstand, geared at a certain target audience chose to not vary from the album track. I don’t remember the ‘technical’ explanation I had heard 40 years ago, but as far as the consumer end goes, if you appear on Bandstand or the like to boost album sales, you play the album track. I worked in the entertainment industry for over 35 years. My husband worked in radio in the late 70’s/early 80’s. One thing we have in common is our deep love and knowledge of music. I’ve seen Berlin live many times over the decades. They are a great band - one of my 80’s faves!!
Hard to fathom this is the same woman that sang " take my breath away " from dirty dancing. I don't blame ya if ya doubt me. I only learned that fact very recently myself.
Sounds very close to the album. As its a TV show, this is all a backing track or whatever right? Maybe its her real vocals with fake band? (Fake as in recording is playing)
@@5100yes Cool, yeah, figures... Not too disappointed, that's just how they did it for those types of shows. Still a fun performance piece I guess. Was mostly just asking because I'm putting together a youtube playlist of my favorite live performances, and I think I'll be keeping these kind of backing track appearances off the list.
@@5100yes Agreed! Ha, yeah I got a good start on that list. Heavy on 80s, but some 70s and 90s too. And of course that epic Phil Collins performance from 10 years back or so... (If you haven't seen it, see it ha.)
I loved Berlin, all my friends were "too cool" to like Berlin it would ruin their image of being "hardcore" only listening to Judas Priest, Black Sabbath and all the "real rock". Judas Priest, Black Sabbath are good but I always liked a much wider variety of music.
So funny I thought she was going to sign the song sex .well no worries I loved all of Berlin's songs before top gun.I just hate thay broke up after Top Gun

Cool ❤
The good Ol days
Epic!!!
So are the other guys John Crawford started the band.
John Crawford was in the band.
Terri Nunn is a very big 80s rock legend with a commanding voice 👏 🙌 👌
Just saw her at Epcot. Still got it.

She has an amazing voice. She looks amazing today in her 60s.❤
July 2024 and I’m still in love with her. Great band.
Berlin was an integral part of the early 80s new wave scene in Los Angeles.
Take me back
Was in 9th grade in early 1984. Great music and and fun times.
Love Terri Nunn !!! She is forever !!!

It was such a great time!
And great to reclaim it.
Terri rocked it. She looked great. The robotics not so much but she was and still is amazing!
Terri Nunn is amazing. I have seen her on the 80’s Mudic Cruises. The band and Terri work as one. Love ya Terri and Paul…🤗
Saw her last night. Amazing!
Berlin I love you so much you beautiful German goddess ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
You think her name is Berlin?
My Favorite Band !
this was alalways my fav song rm them😊
Lip syncing is usually really boring to watch but man is Terri Nunn super charismatic with her stunted, robotic way of moving during this song

Great rare video! Great Song.🔥🌟👑😃👍

Yes, a lot of the time, for various different reasons, especially depending on what type of show it was, and when, and where it aired etc
Bandstand was always lip sync.
I Love Terri
I'd like to be there 😍
Essas bandas New wave anos 80 eram Berlin,Romeo Void e tantas outras fizeram da época com músicas muito legais 😎
Kick ass.
Am i the only one that hated take my breath away but loved the other songs by them.
Nope. That song is hot trash among the bands many fantastic songs.
Very pretty!
Nice Video
Dave Diamond 💎

Take My Breath Away is from Top Gun, not Dirty Dancing.
@@danielmaher7108 You are so right. I knew better but guess I got confused for a minute.
I do doubt you, because it was Top Gun dummy
Matt Reid doing the Matty dance, just awesome!
Giorgio Moroder colaboró con esta canción por eso tiene ese estilo algo parecido al OST Scarface.
I think this might have been on the Top Gun soundtrack?
No. Take my breath away was on top gun. Big #1 worldwide hit. 😃
Terri aged well. Very well.

I think its fake .. I saw a Janet Jackson one (AB) and the Microphone was so far from her mouth most of the time .

Great song even if the beginning sounds like Debbie Harry's Rush Rush.
6th grade
A jennifer Lopes, Shakira e Bionce são melhores que essa anita
Looks like she has huge eyebrows.
She is lip syncing here something she hates to do
What a goofy looking hairdo with the Groucho Marx eyebrow look.
The sound is amazing she stays true to her sound either on the video or live she sounds great
