Hey Boys, Great get. I am an old safety officer for the Department of Defense, and i'd like to pass along a small bit of safety that may save your lives if you decide to raise the cab. A while back a seasoned soldier was crushed by the cab while he worked on the stuff under the cab. Since that accident the DoD has mandated a "T" handle device that braces the cab from loosing hydraulic pressure to hold the cab up. So if you ever decide to lift the cab please find a strong device to place between the raised cab and a hardened spot to prop the cab up while working under the raised cab. Scott Medford, Oregon
Yep... Just like all of our fire trucks. You raise the cab to a point and a bar automatically locks into place. Do what ya gotta do under there.. Pull the cable to get the bar out of the way and lower the cab.. 😎

I want to make a few recommendations for you guys. 1. This is a stripped down mobile command post. This thing has the power generation capacity for computers and tech. Strongly recommend figuring out your own Wifi for this vehicle 2. Light placement is tactical. Keep the blue lights, be concerned about overloading it with lights. 3. This definitely had the capacity to mount firearms of several kinds on it. Check with your state laws on those 4. Do not mess with the exhaust: If you are building a bug out vehicle you will need to be able to not be heard or not heard as easily. 5. DO add beds and what not. Also see about more gun storage 6. A refresh of the paint is definitively in order to bring it up to modern camo standards and i agree the Forklift in the same camo would just scream America. 7. Have a lot of fun with this!!
Yeah the blue lights inside are probably there for night time ops. We usually use red lights at night for light-discipline, but I imagine blue lights might be useful for differentiating the command post. This is a really nice truck!
I'd make the interior super nice with plush and modern amenities like those multimillion dollar underground bunkers built in old missile silos. Cut a doorway from the cab to the back, install a roof mounted air conditioner and also build a deck on top with pop up guard rails.
To clear up a few questions you guys have and give some brief info: This is in the US Military family of Medium- size Tactical Vehicles (wiki it for more info), they're used in a myriad of configurations from cargo moving/ hauling to mobile communications, to mobile hospitals (more like general triage until CASEVAC can get them to a proper base hospital). The "circular cut" in the roof of the driving cab was for fitting the coaxial ring mounting system for a weapons turret (commonly a .50 caliber M2 machine gun or even a MK-19 machine grenade launcher, sometimes additional radar or communications arrays in special configuration), the large thick mounting rings on various points on the vehicle are for linked extraction by large Engineer's vehicles were it to get damaged or stuck and need towing/ pulled out, for securing in transport aircraft, or even for loadmasters to secure lines to for airlift (empty load) by something like a Chinook Helicopter. The M-16 series of rifles were the US Military's primary fighting rifle system before switching to the more compact M-4 variants used commonly now, a full-sized (18in. barrel) fixed stock rifle chambered in 5.56 NATO, it had four main variants (A1, A2, A3, A4), I used an M-16A4 in part of my service, that had a burst fire selection apart from semi and safe. A3 variant had full auto selection (you can wiki the series for more info). Every crew member had an issued rifle so there had to be stowage for them all, hence why there's multiple mounts on the back wall of the cab. You guys are really going to have to do a lot of research, the maintenance manuals used by the Military for this model type may be downloadable in PDF form or even found in hard copy at a military surplus store or online at like ebay or something, but i'd really also recommend you consult with current or prior servicemembers who worked on these, they're going to be able to share invaluable information on servicing them. Military vehicles are a whole other bear to civilian vehicles for many reasons. Good luck.
You guys are really taking me back to my Army years driving and repairing that vehicle. It's an LMTV (Light medium tactical vehicle), it has the CTIS (central tire inflation system) which inflates and deflates the tires even on the move, the roof of the cab can be removed and outfitted for a Gunner, the left headlight and right rear tail light has the blackout lights for night driving. It's not bulletproof because it's not up-armoured, the cab lift and spare tire craddle both operate on the same system hydraulically to lower and raise and you can do it manually if the system fails. You can't go as deep as the exhaust pipe or you'll stall the engine, and the headlights can be upgraded. I worked on and driven those for 20 years
Back-in-action mode, did that vehicle have remote comms and/or relay capability? Those two connections on the passenger side at the rear look like Russel-Stole recepticals. Usually for some POTS lines and a data connection. Those rings on the top look like they would anchor a small SAT dish. Just some thoughts. Awesome buy goonz.

Nice LMTV. I used to drive a 5 ton version. There is a lot of cool stuff on that truck. Be sure the pin for that cab is in place everytime you drive, the cab can flip forward and ruin your day. That hole up top is for a turret.
Be sure to run the numbers to make sure the Cab holder has been fixed as well. Having that thing drop back down on you while you're tinkering with the engine sucks. Ask me how I know.

Being in the military and driving this vehicle because it's my MOS, is amazing to see you guys have one and cant wait to see what you guys do to build it up. Love the channel!! P.s that giant circle in the roof is the gunner hatch!! That vehicle is set up to be a units CP (command post)
They said they were running out of room for cars, so they fixed that by getting 2 trucks, then fixed that by getting a monster forklift and huge military truck.
DJAnarkros DJ & UA-camr we used to use “simple green” on everything 20 years ago in basic. I never seen so much simple green in my life and never have since. They loved that sht. It did work well.

Won’t be long before one of the big networks tries to get y’all on a show. You have the personalities and enthusiasm for it.
F the networks. All they want is to stick their greedy hands into the pockets of people gullible enough to sign on the dotted line. Then they own you, your brand and probably your channel. They will tell you to jump and you answer better be "How high?", before telling you to get down and give them "50" and I don't mean push-ups.
@The Lovely Lover Lisa Page they can drive legally a truck but don't know what M16 is?? WTF. Hell even I know what M16 is and I dont even live in America.
I almost fainted. I have been saving money to be able to buy an M16. They are probably twice the price of that piece of metal they bought. Military equipment is always fun to buy.
Guys, drive that over to your nearest American Legion, ask the Vets about that. When doors are open the black lights come on, close them the white interior lights go on. Over the cab you have a machine gun turret that was removed. Large side hooks for air mobile transport the chopper picks it up. Your AR 15 can fit the M 16 racks. The box isn't bullet proof neither are the push out windows. A generator hooks in to that fuse box. Inside the cab you have an ammo box and bag storage for gear. Have fun with you build!
Gunner? I don't even know her, nyuk nyuk. A 50 caliber on a pivot would be nice up there. If this was a communications vehicle the back top panel may have been designed to fit a 2way satellite system as well.
This reminds me of the Oshkosh HEMMET I drove in the Army. Very nice! By the way, an M-16 is made by the same people who make the AR-15. "AR" stands for "Armalite Rifle" (not "Assault Rifle" as there's no such thing) which is the name of the company that designed them. The AR-15 is the civilian version. The only difference is the M-16 has 2 more fire modes: Auto and Burst which fires 3 rounds. Most modern rifles are designed after the AR platform. *EDIT* After seeing the back of the vehicle, I recognize it. What you guys have purchased is a Mobile Command Center. We had these in Desert Storm. I was in artillery, and what we used them for was commanders would sit in the back and receive fire missions from an FO (Forward Observer). They'd receive coordinates to attack, and they'd relay those orders to the artillery units from those vehicles. They would also communicate with other command units in the rear of the front lines to coordinate movements. The interior of the rear cabin was setup like a small office with desks and chairs as well as communications equipment. The external couplings you saw on the side were for satellite transceivers as well as a connection for a gas powered generator. The "military sunroof" is where a turret ring would be installed for the person in the middle seat to use. It would have a .50 cal Browning machine gun mounted on it. That's why the middle seat in the front cabin is a little higher up. It's also used as a platform to stand on if the turret is installed. Very nice purchase!
"it's like a Cadillac on wheels" ..... OMFG!!! LOL!!! thanks for bringing some bright light on these recent dark days boys. your content is so entertaining and takes us away from the worlds awful news for 25mins at a time. bless you both! big props from Toronto Canada
I work ok these every single day in and day out have any issues just email me I have all manuals and lists and checks and parts listing everything you need for these.
is it a 94 model? it looks kind of old for 94. I used to drive Unimogs in the australian army. I was kind of expecting this to have transportal hubs and axels for more ground clearance like our mogs, but was surprised to see this with just regular solid axels. Also that interior looks like something much older than 1994. Also goonzquad, those lights you were talking about are called “blackout lights” these are a really dim light for “blackout driving” (driving with night vision goggles), we also had like a black plastic flap that would flip over and cover the speedometer and other gauges so as to not be too bright so you couldn’t see when you were driving with nightvision on. Take this thing off road, not sure the specs on this vehicle, but our old mogs could climb a 60% gradient (which is impressive) They were a piece of shit on the highway, but sensational off road. Also the hole in the roof for us was called a Capola (spelling could be wrong) and as others have stated, it was for having a gunner stand up and be able to put rounds down range from.
Made in US with Steward and Stevenson but engineered by Steyr in Austria, and sold to the US-Army. Here it‘s name is Steyr 12M18. Greets from Graz, Austria
"These are Military Grade batteries" What they don't know is that it means these were built by the cheapest bidder. If people really knew what Military-grade was. lol.
Exactly. The government buys stuff from the cheapest contractor. My dad works for the government and wants to be a contractor because he knows hoe much they make. You dont do anything except order something through the company like GE because they cant but straight from a big brand company
I was in an Army Reserve unit as a mechanic once upon a time, so I have some experience with this type of vehicle. The series parallel arrangement for the batteries allows the 24 volt starting system to have a lot of extra starting voltage and current in cold temperatures. The bad part about the series parallel setup is that they self discharge faster than a single series setup. Just sitting one month, these batteries would be fully discharged. The single series 24Volt systems would not be completely dead. If this were mine, I would set up a little trickle charger on each battery (harbor freight sells them for cheap) to keep them topped off when you aren't driving it unless you drive it every few days. OR, You can set up a 24V solar panel with charge controller to keep them topped off. Otherwise you will be going through a lot of expensive batteries.
“I know what MILITARY GRADE MEANS hahaha look at my superior intelligence internet , military grade means easily mass produced all over the states , so everything is made STUPID SIMPLE , and military grade means bulletproof (brand new ) why would they make military grade jets and boats if it’s just cheapest bidder , yeah cheapest bidder on a trillion dollar contract suck one baby !
Yalls enthusiastic personalities are more infectious than the Corona Virus!! Lol You guys are amazing. Want to thank you so much for what you do. You bring joy into lives.
You gotta love these two they are like kids at christmas time seven days a week, yea its a command center vehicle for the wild at heart. It will serve you well good for almost any out of pock thing you can think of, have fun and enjoy it like you mean it.
the 'sunroof' is where they mount a gun ring if the mission needed one, either a 50. cal or an M-60 crew-served weapon. there are connections for a large generator to power it and all the radio equipment that normally would be inside. you can get the Generators through military surplus.
Coby Osbourne how am I lying lol I hold a 91B mos lol it’s a bit older machine but I have the basic knowledge and can steer them towards the TM that will break it down step by step for them
Man, I though for a minute I was going to watch another sequel of "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure".😆 Stencil these letters on the front of the cab , J.E.E.P. , Just Empty Every Pocket and have fun. Excellent
Hi, I recommend putting a second tank of diesel, there is space available and it is not expensive, just take precautions to prevent fuel theft. with 550 liters of fuel that truck could travel more than 1600km, but before I recommend you check the fuel injectors, the passage of time and the habit of the military of using fuel generates many problems
These trucks are probably the 2nd best piece of equipment in the Army. First would be the HEMTT. Though the Osh Kosh version of their truck is better for reliability. I want to get this exact truck when I get out for an overlander / camper.
You guys have now hit the big time. The locals seeing you driving around in that truck probably think the military have taken over and we are not far from the end of civilization.... well done guys!!😎 This is the best!!!!
Hey fellas that fog light you was talking about at 9:50 is actually a infrared light you can see with night vision and if u need help I was a mechanic on these for awhile feel free to ask away
BTW UNPLUG YOUR CONNECTOR ON AUTO AIR INFLATION FOR WHEELS UNTIL YOU NEED TO USE IT OTHERWISE IF YOU LEAVE IT PLUGGED IN ALL THE TIME IT WILL BLOW YOUR WHEEL SEALS. IF YOU JUST PLUG IT IN WHEN YOU NEED IT IT WILL WORK FLAWLESS
M-16's are what they used when that truck was in service. Today they use improved M-4 variants. The AR-15 is the civilian-use equivalent to the M-4 with small differences like no full-auto option.
Yeah I was pretty surprised some seemingly good ol boys from Georgia don’t know what a m16 is. Or what that gigantic hole in the roof is 😂. Some would say that’s what’s wrong with their generation. They seem humble and eager to learn though so I can’t knock them. Also military still uses the m16 quite a bit in fact I’m pretty sure that’s what most are issued still. I know the navy still uses them for a fact. Saw one today.
I’m currently deployed and I spend a lot of time in a truck exactly like that. They run well, but they are top heavy so you have to be careful. Make sure you get a chalk block for the tire because they like to roll away
Nice truck! The cab derived from an Austrian company named STEYR, the same company that builds the STEYR AUG rifle, the Austrian Army had a truck called the Steyr 12 M 18 in service, 12 metric tonnes and 180 hp with 9 speed manual! Stewart & Stevenson used this cab for these trucks, frame and drivetrain are totally diferent, but they have an excellent reputation! Before filling up the fuel tank I would suggest to drain the fuel and inspect and clean it, maybe replace the fuel lines and filter of course - An M 16 rifle is the predecessor of the M 15 and M 4 rifle series ! Keep up the great work guys!

Next episode: Rebuilding a Fighter Jet!
The cut out on the roof an the middle seat is for the Gunner. A machine gun would be mounted on top.

That middle seat should fold down to stand on.

I work ok these every single day in and day out have any issues just email me I have all manuals and lists and checks and parts listing everything you need for these.
Would you call this example "mint"?
is it a 94 model? it looks kind of old for 94.
@@stuey7777 Well to be fair, Unimogs are Mercedes and are expensive af. These might be decent trucks, but no Unimogs.

It’s basically just that if it has been in the military or someone in the military own one it’s considered military grade
Lol for real! I love seeing the memes we all make about things being “military grade”

M-16's are what they used when that truck was in service. Today they use improved M-4 variants. The AR-15 is the civilian-use equivalent to the M-4 with small differences like no full-auto option.

Stewart & Stevenson used this cab for these trucks, frame and drivetrain are totally diferent, but they have an excellent reputation!
