We upgraded our memory foam mattress in our self-built camper van to a custom-made sprung mattress which gives us a much better night's sleep and is lighter than the old mattress so we saved some weight as well as a better night sleep.

Not sure mate they would be the best people to talk to about that but I know from putting it in the van it’s lighter than the older memory phone one

The flat i am living in had a mattress on the bed , i swear it was trying to kill me , got a matress that cost a fortune , but oh my god the difference , it's brilliant , a good matress is massivley important to a good nights sleep :)
A couple of ratchet straps would have helped you no end both with removal and installation of the mattress

That sounds like me. I tried to have a mattress that was full memory foam, great reviews etc Had mega back issues with it. Swapped to hybrid and it's been much much better. Although still think need a full spring mattress.
Nice looking mattress and the prices seem fair. I was watching and said I'm surprised you still had your jacket on and with that you removed it lol.
I’m the same mate. I’ve gone for a spring mattress. Originally I cut one down by about 300mm to fit width ways but now I’m reconfiguring the layout to have a full size double mattress in that you would have at home so I can have more leg room. Big of a pain in the ass but want to sleep comfortably so worth it in the end.
Glad you said it’s not as heavy as I’m getting concerned about weight as I’ve just had my van weighed and it came back as 2800kg and I’ve still got the kitchen/shower and some other bits to build🥴.

Wow, what an upgrade! I'm curious about the process of customizing a sprung mattress for a camper van and how it enhances your sleep quality and travel experience.
Should have put a ratchet strap round it to bend the ends in…would have saved you all,the effort…I’m in your camp with regards sprung and foam mattresses…good upgrade 👍

Have to admit mate we had the same feeling . We allwsys had t4s and rock and roll beds so when we built the crafter I was like where the hell we getting a spring mattress . Wish I’d have known back then what I know now . Good luck with the build buddy

🐦🔥 When you said you're both tall, how tall is that? Looking at the size of the bed, I would have thought side to side would have been better. I definitely wouldn't be able to fit in it, I'm 6'8! I'd have to go corner to corner 😆 🤣

We are not tall at all 😂😂😂 Neil’s 5”6 and I’m smaller again so ….. if we had side pods it would work but as we don’t we had to make a solution that works for us 😂😂

Sprung always wears though and the springs poke you. The trick to memory foam is buy a thicker one or glue two together with fabric glue, then buy a waterproof zipped cover and a zipped fabric outer cover.
Mine is now 30cm deep and with the two covers doesn't get too warm or cold and has the right level of padding.
You want it firmed add more padding, want it softer take some away,.
Last mattress was two types of foam as stated in the video and wasn’t right for us, but each to their own
