Just listened to the Against The Odds podcast featuring their story. I do hope he had people there for him at the end so he wasnt truly alone in this world as the interviewer pointed out to him

@@jaydee6361. Hi there jaydee. I, like the others here, listened to the podcast Against the Odds, too. Producers are “Wondery”, look for their title with ATO, if you have a podcast site you use or look them up for their app. It is Season 35. Wondery have very good shows.

What a humble man he was. Many would probably despise the experience or be mad. Not Maurice, he felt blessed by it all. Just amazing.

Maurice and Maralyn are heroes of mine. I have their book, and live aboard a wooden boat with my family. This Doc brought a tear to my eye - thanks so much for making and sharing this.

I read their book when I was maybe 10 years old and felt captivated by their story. Still remember them catching the flying fish and the pain when they had to kill the green turtles just to survive. I'm 50 now and first time ever I've seen the couple of that beautiful survival story.
Rest in peace, Maralyn and Maurice. Thank you for sharing that part of your life and also for Mr Cerezo for this beautiful video.

Its so nice to find people that already knew them! We also loved the book since we were young. This old tale was just like a beautiful fable. Alvaro Cerezo always wanted to meet Maralyn but sadly she died in 2002. At least we could get Maurice to tell the story before he left.

I read this also when I was young, and my 10 year old lad read it too.
In tears at the end of this. So sad he was lonely. Who wants to bet there are two happy whales out there.

A beautiful new book has been written about them, their lives and their experience. It's called "Maurice and Maralyn" by Sophie Elmhirst.
It really helps to understand their lives and their relationship (/love story) in a way that Maurice himself would struggle to convey in his books. It's also very eloquent on his later life. Highly recommend

Beautiful documentary story. I read the book about 1995 after inheriting the penguin book from my grandfather. I’m going to recommend this video to all my English students as the pictures and images are perfect for picking up new vocabulary and it’s so interesting of course, and perfect length for them too. The subtitles are good too apart from occasional blunder.

They were really lucky not having found a "curious" big shark instead of whale or also a good sea-storm or squall ...
He said they don't believe in God , but what if simply a longer time at sea that did not allow the material of the raft to resist any longer, and then I want to see if a prayer of impetration or terror did not come out of him/them..
