      It’s very impressive but do it in an H Pattern car and find those gears when down shifting. This is a sequential.

    as other have said he doesn't have to for either but clutching your down shifts allows him to heel/toe which in turn allows him to match the wheel and engine speeds with allows him to avoid shift lock under braking with allows him to maintain control which allows him to not crash, also you dont have to use a clutch even on a synchro box just minding the throttle

    @1995MattyD Having said that, I can't hear anything like what I used to hear in F1 when they had traction control. What impresses me most about this video, after having the telemetry and being able to see his footwork, is Akira Mizutani's driving. He is very smooth, consistent, and patient. I think it's his car control and footwork that are the biggest factors in controlling wheelspin.

    I actually race cars. I'm just saying that he is not using 'tiptronik' it is simply a sequential racing transmission. The reason he doesn't have to use the clutch on up shift is because the ECU is programmed to cut the ignition when he shifts, but while downshifting you have to clutch and heel and toe.

    • @zoltrix7779
      @zoltrix7779 6 років тому +5

      The reason you don't need the clutch is because the transmission has dog engagement. The point of the ECU cut is so that you don't need to lift the throttle during an up-shift. Without the ECU cut, you just need to slightly lift the throttle whist pulling the gear lever.
      And its got nothing to do with a sequential shift pattern, all this can be done with a H pattern dog box too, but that's pretty old skool nowadays.

    I read somewhere that Porsche uses engine ignition electronics to act as traction control. There certainly seems to be no tire spin at the start even though it looks like he just nails it.

  • @opmike343
    @opmike343 11 років тому

    More or less. But keep in mind, you don't have to use a clutch when downshifting a motorcycle either. All sequential gearboxes want is to be un-loaded before they are shifted. This usually requires a quick rolling off of the throttle when accelerating or a quick rolling on of the throttle when decelerating. Using either technique (when appropriate) will allow for a clutchless shift.

  • @sasssgy312
    @sasssgy312 3 роки тому +1

    Can somebody tell me why you need the clutch in the first place when you can shift without using it? I mean if you go alll the modifications to do all that work, then why not just add rev matching?

    Even though you might be troll bait I'm gonna reply. Whats so hard about it? You may be shifting a hundred times slower than a machine but if you have syncros to deal with you just have to slam the crap out of them and be good at rev matching. How good are you at downshifting dependably? Have you ever driven on a track?

  • @severrnijKGU
    @severrnijKGU 12 років тому

    well met sir. Ive driven a 78' 911 on Roebling a couple of times. the thing has a slop box of a transmission. That's my dad's car. My car is the tacoma, a truck transmission, really obstinate. but sometimes you match up just right and everything feels like butter. I was just saying that its possible to row down quickly even with syncros. /watch?v=klMur6TPkrM i learned from this, this is me 20% of the time if i had no syncros. :)

    • @SergeantMassonFan
      @SergeantMassonFan Місяць тому

      He Doesn't Use The Clutch On The Upshift Because It's A Dogbox And Dogboxes Allow Clutchless Shifting,On The Downshift He's Using The Clutch To Be More Precise With The Rev Matching And Prevent The Rears From Locking

    you can do this if you single clutch downshift and have a wallet thick enough to replace synchros often. gotta have high horsepower and a very responsive engine that spools up quickly. 6 gears is ideal for most fun on the streets. you need proper hand positioning for the pattern. BTW he's using 'Tiptronik' the only reason he's using the clutch is to baby the transmission. i learned to shift the way i do from videos like this this is how high i set my standards..even though i drive an 04 tacoma.

    the shifting, not the drifting or handling of rotation that's kind of dangerous on the streets with a pickup, nowhere to go. the tacoma is one of those "if you can be smooth in this, then..." cars, its totally not meant to do what I do with it. I believe that shifting on the streets is completely different than on the track. In some aspects its harder. On the track is hard in its own way. The two only agree in some aspects.

    @nialirwin1192 9 років тому +1

    timcomeau Also, tenths of a second? That can be made up by being smooth and not thrashing the car. The only time I use left foot braking is when late braking, and late braking is only useful in overtaking, because you're going to have to slow down to the same speed as the guy you just passed for the corner anyways, so really it may SEEM like you've gained time, but in all reality, you probably just did the same lap time as you would have if you just did heel toe and were smooth. Instead, you wen't into a corner way, way hot, had to slow way, way down, and hopefully you can still salvage your fastest line.
