  • With the increase in electronic security, running cables is now part of many locksmiths daily work, CCTV - Access Control - Intercoms - Electric Strikes just to name a few, so when you need to run a wire up a double brick wall cavity it can be a challenging task. This is one of the harder cable runs I have done this year. This is just an example to show some of the techniques I used to make this possible. Currently, we do not offer electronic security, but if you are in need a locksmith
    service please see our website.

    Hey mate great job.. Good old string is best in most jobs for me.. Lol. But to make it a easier process instead of using wire to hook/fish it out.. I bought a flexible strong magnet about 500mil long meant for fishing out the string with some metal chain at the end of it.. Takes like 2 seconds for the magnet to catch the string.. Heaps easier and less stressful.. Thanks for the vid!

    Frustrating as fishing can be I actually enjoy it the bore scope is a brilliant solution to help with that and you've inspired me with my brick walls inside and out so double brick too to do some poe ip and NVR security cameras. I for sure will not be tackling this without a bore scope myself 😂 you're in Australia 🇦🇺too I can tell can I ask what models you went with and what NVR or whatever else you used ? Hope you enjoyed the well deserved beer 🍻 cheers Jeff

    Big job m8 and like you said you could of done it the easy way but no stuck with it.. and its sweet heaps better than the easy way by far and you won the battle and it does look a hell of a lot better than doing it the easy way and its just not you at all your a perfectionist which is so hard to find these days just wants it right not a half hearted effort and that is a great thing and drive to have

    Why not just drill the hole straight through the wall with your conduit in the closet like the other wires?

    Is that a drainage pipe next to PowerPoint?

    • @DrLockShop
      @DrLockShop  3 роки тому +1

      No its an air fan, suck bad fumes out, but its 1/2 finished, used to remove smoke / dust / and draw fresh air into the workshop.. and yes its the same 90mm PVC pipes they use for drainage, but much cheaper then the flexiable stuff most people use

    Just attach a wire coat hanger with tape to the cable and push threes the hole… your way looks like a hard work

    .......Does that 200mm PVC pipe terminate right below the ceiling? Also; why does that PVC pipe terminate right below the ceiling?
    Edit: I think it’s only 150mm.

    • @DrLockShop
      @DrLockShop  3 роки тому +1

      its 90mm close up, and no it went the other direction before , its just sitting and waiting to be finished, its just an extractor fan

      Dr Lock that looked WAY larger than 90mm from my perspective - granted, that perspective was from the floor, after several whiskeys. Regardless, thanks for the follow up. I was genuinely curious.

    Might have been tempted to pull the cable down to avoid the weight of the cable on the string being at 90 degrees when trying to get it out. A hanging cable might bend better when there's no weight on it. Maybe!?!? Got to do a power supply for a doorbell so I'll be the one cussing later on today. :-)

    You mention pride in your work yet you have extension leads and power cables hanging down I don't see the pride just a mess. It only takes someone to cut the outside cable and your camera is dead. You could have screwed a metal box next to power and stuck a £20 egloo ip camera in it assuming the workshop is near wifi. If you had ran conduit up the inside you could have ran all those extra cables inside it also cable tie the extension lead behind the monitor and if your not going to use conduit at least shorten the cables and wrap them all together. The right way to have done this is run trunking ceiling to floor next to the monitor and feed all the cables into it and mount the camera next to the trunking. Reality is once inside they can Rip the camera down so cable security is mute

      The cable puller dose not drop straight down like string with a weight, I do have another tool that is much the same, but the old string seems to work best for me

      Dr Lock mate, I’ve worked on IT for 20+ years, and have done a lot of the required cabling for SME. The number of times I’ve tried to use a cable puller, and it’s not worked, I couldn’t count on a dozen hands. Sometimes you’ve just got to persist, and I genuinely appreciate the fact you showed that sometimes, shit just does not work the first time, or the second, or even easily the third time. I could feel your anxiety each time it broke the line. Your videos are great. Keep them up!!
