I always liked this better than the original, personally. I didn't even know there was an "original" version, I was kinda shocked when I heard it. It was scary.
My god does this sounds fucking delicious it's so "syrupy" and smooth. People in the comments are 100% right, if I wanted something that sounded like the original I'd listen to it
I've thought about this song like twice a year since the 90's and never can resist coming to listen to it again when I do, haha. I think this might be my favourite cover of all time.
im a Zep , Sabbath, Cure fan among other great bands. i bought a Cardigans album and found this song. i love this interpretation and it grooves. love this song . stoney 420 have listened to it many times . great vocals great music arrangement.
I always thought iron man when sung by Sabbath was a dark song about a murderous iron man... but this song makes it sound like a depressed angry iron man getting revenge for abuse XD love it
I heard it was about a man who went to the future, saw the destruction of mankind, went back in time to prevent it from occuring but no one would listen to him so in his frustration he caused the destruction he wanted to prevent. Edit: I think this is literally what the song is about so I'm sure it's up to interpretation on it's true meaning. d:
@@joshuafogg6600 Nothing to do with Tony Stark, but what you may have heard of as The Iron Giant. So, pretty much as @Blake Martin says, a depressed angry iron man getting revenge for abuse. Ted Hughes was pretty weird.
Always dug this cover. People who get all bent out of shape over it are just closed-minded. This, and their cover of Talking Heads' Burning Down the House (a duet with Tom Jones) are fascinating! This is coming from someone who grew up listening to all of the above! BTW, Ozzy gave his stamp of approval on this too. Nice vintage Iron Man cartoon footage! I'd forgotten how cheesy those 60s cartoons were! This is hysterical! I wish I had some weed to enjoy with this right now! Maybe tomorrow night, LOL!
yeah now everyone on youtube is trying to do screamo or slow sad versions of songs but they arent transformative. its just a cover of a better band... This however completely changes how i feel about "Iron man" His vengeance seems like a tragedy in this song while Sabbath is more like this guy is fucking metal watch out for him lol
This actually isn't too far off from how Iron Man would sound had it been a theme song for the original animated TV show. It's almost a perfect 90s take on the same concept behind the lighthearted theme from the original 1960s Batman show.
Has he lost his mind? Can he see or is he blind? Can he walk at all, Or if he moves will he fall? Is he alive or dead? Has he thoughts within his head? We'll just pass him there Why should we even care? Oh, Iron Man He was turned to steel In the great magnetic field When he travelled time For the future of mankind Now the time is here For Iron Man to spread fear Vengeance from the grave Kills the people he once saved Nobody wants him He just stares at the world Planning his vengeance That he will soon unfold Nobody wants him They just turn their heads And nobody helps him Now he has his revenge Heavy boots of lead Fills his victims full of dread Running as fast as they can Iron Man lives again!
Watch the scene from "Less Than Zero" when Michael Bowman makes Robert Downey JR. suck guys dicks to get his drugs, then listen to this song. 🤬🤬🤬⚔⚔⚔⚰⚰⚰
The song reminds me of Pumped Up Kicks. Not because it sounds like it but the concept of doing a happy upbeat rhythm with dark lyrics. While I prefer the original, I find this unique
That's actually a fantastic cover. I love the Trip-Hop/Chillout element to it, it's a like Portishead meeting up with Alanis Morrissette and deciding to do a metal cover. Just because something doesn't sound like the original doesn't mean it's bad, how narrow minded is that anyway? Same goes for the Ministry cover (which is also good). AND; I hate saying this, but I know some comments are inevitable... Before I watched this I was watching wall-to-wall Immortal videos, and I've seen Sabbath live. Just in case some dumb shit thinks about saying I'm not into Metal/the original.
I'm sorry but I completely disagree. I will admit that I do not like this type of music in general and am a huge fan of the original by Sabbath but honestly I can't find anything about this cover that has any redeeming qualities. it does not even have the slightest nod to the basic riff that defines the original. covering a song does not mean deconstructing it and getting rid of everything that makes it what it is and just using the words to an almost completely different tune. it doesn't have to be a perfect copy but it is supposed to at least resemble the original. this so completely fails that it isn't even funny. I am sure even Weird Al Yankovic doing this song as a polka version would be better than this.
Daniel Manetto no Daniel I know plenty about music. possibly as much if not more than you do but my personal preferences do not align with yours. just because my opinion differs does not make it any less valid nor yours any more valid. everybody has their own opinions and preferences and everybody is welcome to theirs. and insulting me doesn't make you any better than me.
Driving back to Austin from the coast and was scanning the dial for some music. The sun was almost down and the windows were when I came across this song, I listened and tried to figure it out. I loved it, sorta, the firs time I heard it, but I knew it was important. And it was, the soundtrack of some weird times in my timeline.
This version is over twenty years old... It's surprising that so many people don't seem to be aware of it. The Cardigans are huge Sabbath fans, they've covered them more than once.
YO! this... my dad showed me this exact cover as a cover when I was like 10 or whatever, after he showed me black sabbath. I can't believe I found this! Holy shit 15- 10 something years ago
of all the metal tributes to this song and i mean theres lots, ths is by far the best and this cover belongs more on nativity in black tributes more than the other two covers,,
This has that lo-fi/chill vibe that's been quite popular of late and think this cover came out in 1996.
the style is very definitely trip-hop a la portishead, which was very big in the early nineties, and which the new lo-fi borrows from
girl dont disrespect this cover like that. wayyy more layered than the "lo-fi" songs that have recently come out.
That reversed keyboard in the right leading into the guitar strum in the left is pure production genius. I’m definitely gonna steal that technique
yeah it took me a while to even comprehend what instrument i was listening to lol it blends so well
I'm a HUGE metal fan... This cover is absolutely mind blowing it takes a lot of skill to completely remaster a song like this... just purely amazing!
I always liked this better than the original, personally. I didn't even know there was an "original" version, I was kinda shocked when I heard it. It was scary.
@@paulaharrisbaca4851 Black Sabbath was goo. This is better
Covers like this are necessary...
completely changes the context of the song. goes from scary and evil (Sabbath version) to melancholy and sad. i love covers like this
@@vannjunkin8041 no it's not this version of the song sucks
I'm a lifelong metalhead and this is fucking brilliant. It's the essence of what a cover should be.
Nikki Ourand Lambert me too
This is not a cover, this is a remake. As in this band re made this song to their liking
the cardigans are simply a genius band. ppl don't get it..
try listening to emmerdale..
Nina Persson alone is underrated.
My god does this sounds fucking delicious it's so "syrupy" and smooth. People in the comments are 100% right, if I wanted something that sounded like the original I'd listen to it
Tony iommi said the cardigans version of “sabbath bloody sabbath” was his favorite cover of any Black Sabbath song.
Thanks GOD!!!
Thanks for the heads up... I'll dive into that rabbit hole
Love this, Oddly it became the primary lullaby for my son when he was born. Mainly because I'd heard this version and knew the words.
This is one of the weirdest, most beautiful things I've ever heard.
I love the visuals to go along with the song. Its a wonderful mashup
So when Iron Man gets rebooted in 2030. We’re all here for this.
Forward thinker
I imagine this would be the perfect song to play while Iron Man is giving you a lap dance
I wouldn't have it any other way. In fact it doesn't even need to be iron man. I just want a sloppy toppy to this song
Ha! Got you're probably right
Rolling 🤣 😄 😂!!!
😂😂😂

Puts a whole new meaning to Tony's alcoholism.....
It's about the Antichrist, straight out of Daniel and Revelation. Nothing new under the sun.

Love how the Cardigans made it their own. \m/
I love Black Sabbath, like The Cardigans, and my name IS Tony Stark, but I've only just found this !! Never knew they'd done this cover :)
oH MY GOD. I officially love this
I'm loving the cover and how surprisingly well it goes with the video.
Lifelong Sabbath fanatic and Cardigans covers are some of my favs. You cant rock harder than Sabbath, so try something different, right?

mucho appreciation for taking an AWESOME cover and making such a creative video. I love it.

My favourite cover of any song, totally reimagines it.
