I love it!! This project alone makes me want a CNC.
Doing inlays is a great reason to have a CNC! ☺️
@@MWAWoodworks lazy but can be good
@@rogerwatkins8557 lazy?
You ever try to program one of these things to get it to do what you want it to?
Not easy.
Lazy?
I think not.
That was truly amazing! Fantastic Job Matt!
Thank you for the kind words!
That turned out amazing!
Thanks brother!
Holy cow that came out great. What a great job you did! Thanks for the videos.
Thank you!
that looks really amazing! great work!
High quality build and nice tropical hardwood selection! 👍
Yeah I don't get to use all that brightly colored wood very often ☺️
ABSOLUTELY stunning! amazing job just earned a subscriber
Outstanding !! Your patience and hard work was rewarded with a beautiful end result.
Thank you for the kind words!
Proud to see our Brazilian purple heart on your US flag Board! God Bless USA
The purple heart is really the only option. Thank God such a wood exists 😁🇺🇸
Turned out FANTASTIC Matt! Love it!
Thank you!
keep up the great work, matt!!
Nice job. I wish I had your workshop, and all those tools.
Dang that’s super cool! Nice job, thank you for sharing!
You're very welcome 😁
❤beautiful
Wow. Gorgeous!
Great work. Thank You
Beautiful board and a wonderful job making it as well!!
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Thanks a ton for your support!
That is beautifully amazing!!
Heartbreak on that first union, but the project ended up amazing, nice work as always!
It happens. Gotta be prepared to try again☺️
Great idea, nice finish. Thanks for sharing
Thank you!
wow! that turned out beautiful!
Thank you!
That is gorgeous and a brilliant way to make it. I have just started in my CNC journey and will try this. Your remarks about the flag code "Us Flag code pertains to US flags ONLY and not items that are designed to look like the flag." are correct. Personally I would not cut on it... it's too pretty! Great job!
I don't think most people use them!
Beautiful board!
Thanks Brad!
Just Wow. Great job 👍🏻😉
Thank you!
"Absolutely Brilliant!"; as they say across the "Pond". And I shall add this kind Sir...
NO body can do that! NO Body! NOT even You! LOL!🤓😃
Sincerely. Incredible, awesome to the "nth" degree! Thank you.🤠
😂😂
HI MWA ur good at making cupboards but that cutting board is out of this world. weldone. love it.
Very kind words! Thank you! 😀
So beautiful!
Thanks! 🇺🇸
I feel ya buddy. I have the jet 16/32 jet drum sander, I hate it, it’s the biggest tool regret I have.
Very, very nice work.
That is beautiful!!!!
Thank you!
Great job looks beautiful 🤙🏼
Thanks 👍
Wow beautiful work as always. 👍👊
Hey thanks Charles!
Looks cool. Well done.
Thank you!
That’s looks great 👍 good job .. I like gluing with out gloves 🧤 I like removing my new skin from my fingers 😅 lol
🤣🤣🤣
Awesome job
Thank you!
Beautiful, Matt! Really amazing work! 😃
Unfortunately, I don't think I can find green, yellow or blue woods to make a Brazilian one... 😂
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thank you my friend!
Hey, there's a wood dye called "Unicorn Spit" (seriously, that's the name!) that has those types of vibrant colors. And it's water-based & nontoxic, bc it was developed for woodworkers who were in nursing homes, who don't have the same dexterity. 😍
Wow. Incredible work. The only downside is that it's so perfect that I wouldn't want to actually use it as a cutting board. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
Yeah I think most of the ones I've made end up on a mantle 😂
@9:04 You can actually use a hex key in the handle to add more clamping force.
Awesome!
Thanks!
looks bad ass!!!
Thanks!
That is an awesome job you did. Keep up the Great work.
I'm wondering what grit sandpaper you were using in the drum sander?
Would you share your inlay depth cuts?
80 grit paper 0.25 inlay depth
Nice!
Thank you!
Will you be offering the plans/files to this build?
Turned out beautiful! Hate you had to remake that union again, but I tee, the stars look better with the 30 degree bit.
Thanks Bruce! Yeah I don't mind remaking the union because I learned something out of it that will make my future inlays better!
Amazing job Matt! By any chance have you tried to work in a way to get the stars through some pattern? or was it too much work?
Very cool how you explain all steps, nice job!
PS: I love the work on the cnc, but I don´t have one hehe thats why I´m asking about another way
Very nice
Wow! What an amazing tribute to Old Glory! Everything about this was beautiful; from the padauk and purple heart; to the way you put together the stars on that Union. And may JESUS continue to bless you with wonderful talents!
Thank you!
@@MWAWoodworks You're welcome! I realized after I wrote my comment that I said "hearts" and it should have said "stars". Dummy me LOL
Beautiful work my brother!!!
Great board...
Thanks!
Awesome board!! Are the stars end grain?
Yup
Very nice.
Thanks!
Gorgeous!
I have a question, which may fall under, "so basic it's stupid."
Why do you use water to raise the grain, only to sand it back down again?
So that it doesn't raise again when you clean it
This is amazing. I wish I had a cnc
It's a neat tool for sure 😊
@@MWAWoodworks i run a cnc lathe its about 500k does nice work
On those tropical woods, will oil rise to the surface over time and contaminate food? Someone told me that once but I don’t know if it’s true
Very nice build. Question: what start depth and end depth did you use for your CNC program for cutting out the stars?
For the "female" I did .25 inches and for the male I did .15 and .15 that gave me a gap to cut everything off at the bandsaw
@@MWAWoodworks thank you very much
Very nice build. What CNC are you using?
I have a Onefinity Journeyman
Love the flag cutting board. I noticed a difference in hues for the light wood. How can that be avoided ?
Not sure it can be avoided. Wood is a natural product and has variations even in the same piece of lumber sometimes
Hi Matt. Love the channel. I recently saw a video from blackdogurbanartistry that recommended not using exotic woods like purple heart, mahogany, birch, pine ad some others because of the toxicity levels that can cause contamination in food. Have you heard of this or do you have any concerns about it?
Hey Matt any chance you have plans for this build? I checked your website and didn’t see them.
Also what CNC do you use?
I have a Onefinity CNC
It's interesting that you joint your edge before you run the face through the jointer (or at least that is the order you showed in the video). Why is that? I always thought you want to joint face first then use the flattened face against fence for 90 deg edge? Great job on this, I'm just curious about your workflow.
I think that was just editing. You're right you would flatten one face and then square up the edge
realy nice i need to find someone thats got a cnc
Thanks! A CNC is a must for this one!
I dreamed of having a drum sander for my boards. I bought a Jet 16/32 and hated it. I could not keep paper on the drum. I though I had a bad drum but sold it. Keep thinking I just got a bad sander?
Drum Sanders can be finicky for sure
Any reason why you re-did the inlay piece due to burning when you chopped off the end anyway with the tracksaw? (Or maybe I missed something in the process).
NOT criticising!, just curious. Stunning piece of work, beautiful piece.! 👍
The inlay only goes so deep. When I gouged the work it would have to ruin the inlay to get it flat again
Ugh, me want!
I have to ask I watched you on your festoon miter saw and didn’t see a lot of dust why is that. Can’t be just with your festoon vac hooked to it. I really appreciate all your Videos your make. Ty
That saw has fantastic dust collection
thats all fine and dandy if you have all those tools lol
Well, what can I say 🤷😃
nice
Hi that is a great board. But for me I have a small CNC but I can not get it to talk to my computer. So Need to find an expert near me to get the two to talk to each other. I have tried the Carveco software. Ron MKC USCG RET
How much to ship just the Union? I don’t own a CNC.
I don't sell them, sorry.
rounded corners that's why the other guy used a chisel and did every star by hand most were perfect a few might have some minor flaw, he cnc was a lazy way to go so he cut every star by hand and it showed in his finished work
I got all the stars perfect, no round corners with a 30 degree v bit!
@@MWAWoodworks with a cnc. he did it with a chisel , i run cnc lathes and also ran manual lathes, cnc is a short cut
@@MWAWoodworks is a 30 degree v bit a dove tail cutter? not sure what a 30 degree bit is
No it's a bit that's shaped like a "V" with a sharp point on the end. It's how you carve on a CNC. They come in different degrees 90,60,30 etc depending on how fine you want to get
@@MWAWoodworks yes i know about cutters im a machinist , ive been machining for 45 years so you used a 30 dovetail or a 30 chamfer bit ?
Anyone else noticed a visual affect where the vertical glue lines are? If you look at the maple strips it looks like it angles at the glue lines. Not a bad thing, just a visual affect.
Mat can you send me a cnc program for stars?
maybe you need a cnc drum sander????
👍
👏👍💪🔥
👍🇺🇸
Any plan to sell your files online for this? A 30 degree vbit it was?
Which files?
@@MWAWoodworks The star inlay. How on earth did you get 50 stars to mirror like that?
Well the star pattern on the flag is perfectly symmetrical so it's not hard. Just carve out the inside of the star on one piece of wood and carve out the outside area around the star on another piece of wood. I'm pretty sure I found the vector file for the 50 stars for free by googling it.
End grain?
Yup
why do the stars need to be cut like that?
wouldn't be easier to cut them flat?
No you can't cut them flat because a normal end mill can't make sharp inside corners
Bloodwood would be better then paduk. Paduk is to porus and not that hard bleeds into the maple
My experience agrees with that. The only real difference I've found is Padauk when oiled up is a brighter red where blood wood is a much deeper darker red. They both give the board an overall different look so I think preference plays a part there.
i saw a guy that did a flag on you tube that chiseled every star because he thought cnc was a cop out. his product was near perfect by hand, damn that guy was an artist with wood and chisel , here not so much but very nice anyway
That's awesome! Maybe one day when I don't have a full time job and three small children I'll have time to carve out all those stars by hand. That's a lot of chopping into end grain!
@@MWAWoodworks why are you angry ???????
@@MWAWoodworks 🤣
@@MWAWoodworks you need to take your meds. im journey man machinist and cnc machinist never heard 30 degree v bit unless it was a dove tail bit which would be 30 degrees in the opposite direction /\ like that one, like this \/ would make the sides tapered so they wouldn't fit into you straight sided mirror image , sounds like a lot of bs nice job for the final product tho if you need any machining language that's actually real let me know
I think you misunderstood. I'm not angry at all. I think that's impressive but I certainly don't have the time to spare to do that right now. I'm just glad to have a CNC
It's aight 🤣
Bahahahaha 🤣🤣🤣
Why are the light stripes not an even color?
The red stripes are also not an even color, it's just more apparent on the maple because it's lighter
Daaaaaaaaaang
For real
Did no one else notice the star abnormalities at 10:22? Seems like there was a mistake that wasn't mentioned?
You mean right after I cut the bulk waste off and before I sanded the rest of the waste? You're seeing inlay at various depths sticking out of the top of the inlay
The resaw blade makes it look disproportionate.
🙏🏼❤️🇺🇸✝️🇺🇸❤️🙏🏼
Thank you brother
now i do have one question it does look good. but what true American would cut an American flag with a knife??? wall art in my house for sure
I think most of these become decoration. Most people are too worried to cut into something so pretty 😂😂
@@MWAWoodworks more concerned in cutting into an American flag
@@rogerwatkins8557 use it.
If it starts to get a little chopped up with knife marks then sand them out and re-oil it.
I can appreciate the work that went into this piece, however to use it as a cutting board is disrespect to the flag. It might be better to put it up on a wall for display.
Most people do
United States code says the flag may only be used or displayed in a dignified manner. So that would be great on the wall, but as a cutting board I don't think so. Amazing work nonetheless.
Thanks for reaching out my friend. I'm very familiar with the flag code as I've been making boards like this for years. Us Flag code pertains to US flags ONLY and not items that are designed to look like the flag. Just like paper plates, swimming trunks or your iphone case, the code doesn't apply. Just want people to understand that. Have a good one! 🇺🇸
@@MWAWoodworks I'm a veteran so I'm not going to cut up a chicken on the US Flag. If that's how you want to make a buck go ahead but understand not being against the law doesn't make it right.
I understand. The veterans who have received my boards have loved them regardless of how they use them. People have opinions on both sides and that's fine.
Ya know...It's pretty good looking and you obviously went to a lot of trouble...BUT , The Stars and Bars of the US Flag does NOT belong as a cutting board! 208 years ago and ever since, people have sacrificed their LIVES for this symbol of Liberty. Make an attractive wall hanging if you like; not something to chop onions or slice carrots upon. Please , show some Respect .
Thank you for your input. I don't decide what people do with them. If they want to put them on a shelf or use them it is up to the customer. These have been extremely well received for years now, including those US military veterans who have received them.
Great Job
Is the G-Code (.crv) available for the stars?
Amazing work! Plan to use your tips and ideas to create my own... wish me luck. ua-cam.com/users/sgaming/emoji/7ff574f2/emoji_u1f600.png
