Spielberg has Williams, Nolan has Zimmer, Burton has Elfman.
Carpenter has Carpenter.
Sergio Garcia Don't compare.
Carpenter also had Ennio Morricone in The Thing (and it is damn good).
No Carpenter had Howarth.
Yes !
@@bgonza2 Carpenter uber alles
John Carpenter is the film maker’s filmmaker. The guy who writes the script, directs the movie and then writes the musical score for it. And did most of his work back in the days before computers and CGI, making every bit of any of that process harder. We NEED more filmmakers like John Carpenter today now more than ever. An absolute legend.
John Carpenter is such a badass.
Witching Season Films I met him at a convention. Cool dude.

@@Ric_Roar John Carpenter and Wes Craven - I think they cause more sleepless nights than any other film-makers in the last 30+ years.

“In 1988, the crime rate in the United States rises four hundred percent. The once great city of New York becomes the one maximumsecurityprison for the entire country. A fifty-foot containment wall is erected along the New Jersey shoreline, across the Harlem River, and down along the Brooklyn shoreline. It completely surrounds Manhattan Island. All bridges and waterways are mined. The United States Police Force, like an army, is encamped around the island. There are no guards inside the prison, only prisoners and the worlds they have made. The rules are simple: once you go in, you don't come out.”…
Isn't it NOT Jamie Lee Curtis who does that recording, I think?

I don't think I've ever seen John Carpenter look happier than right here, grooving with this band. Kudos to him for this new phase of his career. An inspiration for how to spend our golden years.
He's focused having fun.
Conte Orlok he likes performing music more than filmmaking it's rumoured lol
If you loved that, you're going to love the Halloween 2018 score. Same artists as this video, as I understand it, and it's damn good!
Yes he looked like recognizing what impact he had on Filming & scoring.. "im the man !!" :-) Go on John for many years...
@@AndorrasB0X definitely a massive influence, he should be given a lifetime award by the academy.

When I was at USC, he came to my class. A student asked him "how do I become a director?" He said: "Go out there and do it. Why are you sitting around talking to me?"
What a talent. Yet more than a few people are talented. Some of his greatness comes from that just do it attitude.
" Why are you sitting around talking to me?" because if you make your own successful movies you'll end up hanging from a doorknob, unless you pay 10x more than your movies budget to the hwood criminals like weinstein to leave you alone
Not exactly helpful
@@gotham23usIt might not seem that way at first but when you start buying magazines, books and equipment and start making your own stuff....just like musicians and other artist....you literally start doing exactly what he's saying. I know it's cliché but it took me a second to get it when my music composition teacher said the same thing to me. And now I writes and compose stuff regularly

@@gotham23us lol he mean's make super 8 movies, make home movies, make small productions with people, go to school, collaborate, the film space while tough on the macro level to get into, it's surprisingly easy on the small independent level if you're willing to try. i've done it a few times between my teens to my 30's
An amazing guy. He not only writes, produces and directs his own movies, he also composes them too. Very unique.
Big John is the Man not only in movies but in music. This man is a genius so underrated in his own country. My little tribute to this great song if you have 3 minutes to spare :

I can only think of one other film maker who does that, and that was Chaplin.
In France we have Alexandre Astier who produces, writes, directs, composes, edits and plays in his own movies and tv show
@@SuperMarry23 DAVID LYNCH. Lynch works on sound design on all of his films. He will compose with Angelo Badalamenti and sometimes without.

No idea if Mr Carpenter or his family and friends read these comments, but I just wanted to say thank you for the hours, (no, make that weeks) of pleasure your films and soundtracks have given me, ever since 1978, when my local cinema in England showed a late-night double bill of Assault on Precinct 13 and Halloween. I was so thrilled that night, and 40 years later your work still excites and entertains. Thank you sir, for making such a delightful contribution to my life. All the best from Blighty to you and yours.
So ist es❗👍👍
100% agree
Well done, Old Son. My first VHS video rental came courtesy of my dear Maiden Great Aunt Maidie who in 1982 spent the considerable sum of £4.99 from her short pension on this for the weekend whilst my pig-ignorant mother was away whoring her worthless self. We enjoyed it greatly despite my Aunt's gentility because she who spent time fighting Hitler and Togo knew where the World was going thereafter. She had no love for the Yanks who spent their time undoing the Empire that she spent her youth battling for, and she hoped that some Churchillian hero would come again to save the world from itself. I am pleased that she enjoyed this and such other revenge themes in her time.
Same here. Could not have said it better...
Coiudn't agree more!
Amazingly talented artist. A living legend.
liprandi ahahah che figo trovarti qua, grande!! ✌
Living legend for sure. Seen them in Glasgow it was entirely live that is pretty good going. Considering I also seen jarre in Glasgow and was clearly all playback. John Carpenter concert was the est concert experience I ever had. I love all his music.
One of the rare takes where the live version is better than the recorded.
Are you serious?
The duke of new york disliked this video. because he is A number One!
Well played.

And he disliked it 18 times.
Was A number 1 until our British President Pleasance took him down.

Do we need a Remake of this Movie? Nope!!! No Director, no Camera and no Technique can catch or imitate the pure grittiness of this Original! It's a World Heritage! 🐍

This Live Version is The Best Version ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊😊
My skin feels cold, my nerves prickle and I am again a child in the dark movie theater listening to this piece while mind-blowing images cover the big screen.

"You're the Duke!"
"You are number ONE!" 👍
One of the greatest film scores of all time. Periode.
haha John playing the synth with one hand in his pocket. so fucking cool 1:04
Amazing!!
Loved this piece since it came out in 1981. I was just a child back then bewitched by the simple melody joined to a most impactful sound. This new version makes it even the more powerful. Thank you John Carpenter: you've given us masterpiece movies matched by unforgettable music ❤
John Carpenter... you're the Duke. You're A-Number-One. 💚
“‘The Duke of New York’, that’s who!!! Once you see him, then you’re dead!!”
I absolutely LOVE this. Carpenter you made this the best ever movie theme!!!! 👍
John Carpenter should belong in the Pantheon of Americanism. They Live and Escape from New York/LA are anthems of radical liberty.
Can you imagine being Cody? Making badass music with your dad.
forgot how much I loved this theme.
This goes out to every hard working man and woman who put in a long days work working tirelessly just to feed your families doctors nurses police firefighters ambulance drivers emts may your work never go unnoticed .
You got to respect a man who not only writes and direct his film BUT ALSO makes his own music for the film as well. I don't recall a director who has does all three with their own films. Hats off to you Mr. Carpenter, Rock on!
Only other director who does similar that I know of off of the top of my head is Robert Rodriguez.
I remember when I first watched that movie as a young teenager. The music immediately pulled me into the fiction back then, it still pulls me to another place today, after all those decades. John Carpenter is not just one of the greatest movie directors of all time (right up there with Sergio Leone, Ridley Scott and Stanley Kubrick), he's also one of the greatest modern composers (right up there with Ennio Morricone, Jeff Wayne, Vangelis, Tangerine Dream). His work has always been a great inspiration. Thank you.
This is beyond a shadow of a doubt.......THE MOST BAD-ASS version of Escape From New York that I've ever heard!!!!
I watched the Movie last Year, here in Hamburg, Germany in the Cinema...great!!!!✌✌✌
They opened with this in Helsinki and it was probably one of the best things I have ever heard live. Magic!
Mahtavaa!
His themes are as epic as his films. He is truly a multi talented man. I went VIP to his concert at the palladium one year.
I was the idiot who yelled kick its ass from the front row when he started playing songs from Vampires. 😅
I got a picture with him during the meet and greet
Seeing this live during his tour was iconic. ❤
The rule is simple. Once you go in, you don't come out.
This is everything. Seeing Carpenter rock out next to his son and being widely accepted as an incredible creative soul these days... he paid his dues and he deserved the fame and glory.
pure gold, gentleman
This is an amazing version, love seeing them grooving together.
Never change John, never change...

Gestern erst die Klapperschlange im Kino sehen dürfen. ❤️ War wieder wunderschön die Musik zu hören.
This new version is so terrific. J.C. leaves me speechless every time. Awesome!!! Can't wait to see him live.
Saw John Carpenter at San Diego con one year. A question was asked about his music. He replied I don’t know why you all like it, it’s just basically 2 keys. Guy is super humble and has created some of the most iconic music of the 80’s and 90’s.
I can't describe how happy it makes me to see and hear this!
I don't know what to say, you are the best talented master ever. Thank you, Mr. Carpenter.
Kurt Russel as snake plissken ❤❤❤
Hell yes
This man was ahead of his time the only other composer that can pull so much emotion out of a couple notes is Hans Zimmer. But Hans didn't direct some of my favorite movies from my childhood. JC is the deal.

Oh My God! This is Wonderful!

One of the best Instrumentals of all time! Not only in filmhistory but also in the musicindustry.
This brings back memories. Seeing this in the movies when I was 5 had such an impact on me. The music and the story blew my adolescent mind away . One of the best movies in its day. Im sad to say the the sequel did not bring justice to the franchise. Maybe there is still time for a Return to New York to end it right.
Carpenter is one of a kind, amazing director, producer, writer and can play numerous instruments, and most importantly, he's down to earth, been a fan since I was a kid since I grew up on the likes of Escape From New York, The Thing, Christine, They Live ect
Greatest film maker of his generation.
Outstanding. I can picture Snake Plissken strutting hearing this. Now I gotta go watch the movie again.
