    I'm quite stunned, actually! What a brilliant alternative or supporting method to already powerful set of features for making and refining selections. Thank you so much for making these tutorials! Keep'em coming!

    Brilliant! I didn't know of this method of fine-tuning a difficult selection. Thank you for this...

    Hi, both images in this demo are pixel layers not image layers, just some feedback - would be helpful if you point that out, thanks for the handy tutorials.

    Thank you for another method of creating an exact mask. I put that tutorial in bookmarks. ✅

    Does not work for me. I am guessing this is because in my picture the background has 2 colors, one darker and the other lighter than the model's hair. No matter how I manipulate the live luminosity mask , no actual masking is accomplished. Maybe this only works for clear cut cases of light hair / dark background and vice versa?

    • @takebetterphotos8132

      Yes luminosity mask only works for clear distinction in brightness. In some cases perhaps refine selection or channels will work better. I'm coming out with one on channels soon.

    You picked easy pictures, contrast was like 2 colors, hair and background, easy to make separation.

      Actually I had trouble with Affinity's refine brush getting a precise enough mask with these photos. That's why this alternative solution.

    When you are painting white on the mask, why is it only adding white where the pixels is not empty? When I do the same, my brush is painting outside just as well ruining all my masking in the luminosity mask.

    • @takebetterphotos8132
      @takebetterphotos8132  6 місяців тому

      Not sure what you mean by painting outside, but I am painting on a separate empty mask not on the luminosity mask itself.

      @@takebetterphotos8132 At approximately 5.15 in the video you are painting white on the second mask, but still, you are not affecting the totally masked pixels from the luminosity masked pixels. When I do the same, I get the background demasked... I see that you in the second sample makes a selection to avoid this.

      @@takebetterphotos8132 Yes, i'm getting the same result/problem. When i start painting with a white brush onto the empty mask (which is inside the compound mask and above the luminosity mask, it starts bringing back the original background of the original image (which the luminosity mask just got rid of). The white brush on the empty mask is not only painting over the results of the luminosity mask (like it looks like it's doing in your video) - making it full opacity...it's painting over the full original image again. Does that make sense? I've watched (and followed) the video a few times...what am i missing?

      @@takebetterphotos8132 I get the same thing..when I paint on the empty mask layer to fill in the transparency, it is over-painting past the subject and bringing the background back. How are you telling it to limit the white brush to only be on the subject? I'm aware I could select the subject and paint within the selection as you do in the second example, but in the first, you don't do that...How is it limited to just the subject?

    AF 2.5.2 Great video, but when I right click on the mask icon, I don't get any pop-up at all? I have to go to the menu item Layer > New Compound Mask Layer. Is this a recent change to AF, or am I doing something wrong? Tks.

      Are you using the mac version? I believe the windows version supports right click to get the pop up, while mac supports click to get the pop up. Both should have a popup without needing to go to the menu. Have to make that clearer in the next video. Thanks for the feedback.

      Try Option + clicking on the mask icon.
