In the end, movies and TV shows are stories full of emotions and excitement. Why can't it be full of reflection as well?
History is not boring. History is a treasure - a beautiful (and often scary) treasure.

This channel is successful for lots of reasons, here's a few:
    1. The videos are just really, really high quality; they're very professional and yet have the purity of being someone's labour of love and not just a job, and that's priceless.
    2. The presenter conveys genuine enthusiasm, and not the fake excitement that's rife throughout UA-cam. Same goes for the humour, it comes across as one man's own sense of humour instead of pandering to an audience.
    3. The commentary is very informative and salient, there's very little waffle and any little detours from the subject at hand always feel justified by the time its brought back on-topic.
    4. The opinions given in the commentary demonstrate a consistent level of integrity that underline all of his work, and this makes the viewer trust the information source.
    5. The format of the videos are such that you come to understand the subject matter the film is dealing with (enough), so feel more informed and included in the dissection of the historical accuracy that comes after. This is key, as without it, it could otherwise become aanother petty, boring, know-it-all video essay that UA-cam has plenty of already.
One of the most heartening and uplifting things about this channel is the fact that it has been so successful, and this inspite of the infrequent uploads and tiny production team (virtual one man show). When I saw the tiny amount of videos, lack of clickbait, combined with the fact of it being a historical channel, specifically about historical films, and mostly 20 minute+ videos - I'd assumed it'd be doing well to have 100,000 subs.
It blew me away that it has over 1.1. mil, what this shows us is that quality still trumps quantity. If you do something well, really well, with care, attention and passion, it's enough to win over a lot of people who aren't already 'History Buffs'.
It's a timely reminder in an age of dumbed down content, short attention spans and on-tap entertainment consumption, that there's still no substitute for expertise and quality. Major props to you Nick and congrats on such a great milestone for your channel!

History is one of the most exciting disciplines of all time. Frankly, it is the discipline that unifies all disciplines together. You just have to find the right way to show it to the public. I am glad I am an academic historian.

Norman Wilson‘s book, a history in crisis shows how awesome the history is as a discipline. It is both an empirical science and a well practiced art form with literature and texts. It encompasses everything. How can that even be boring?

I have said it before Nick a lot of studios would do better for their product if they let you research it so they an tell the best story possible. I look forward to more fun and informative videos from the channel. Thanks a million.

That means you got one of those awesome GOLD trophies when reaching 1 MILLION!!! That is sooo cool man!! I remember stumbling on this channel when I wanted to see your views on Gladiator and then I instantly became converted. Thank you sooo much for making this channel and sharing your love and thoughts about history and historical movies, because you're right, The History Channel isnt what is used to be. It has grown in a reality show with a bunch of stupid conspiracy theory shows and "swamp people", which has nothing to do with history. This channel has stayed TRUE to history and thats why I always love tuning in. Sign one of your biggest fans, Peter!!!! A lover of Napoleonic history :) PS--- You should make one on 1917!!! loved that movie.

It's true, it's frustrating how infrequently you upload new videos, but the fact that when you upload your videos are of such great quality, makes it worth the wait! Especially if it's about a movie I have never ever heard of in my life. So keep up the great work!

I've always had an interest in history. Maybe it is because I never went to college so I didn't get a chance to study the more detailed subjects of history other than US and European history. There is so much more to know and learn about all over the world and I have used UA-cam to educate myself on other events in history. So Nick, you don't apologize for infrequent uploads. Quality takes time. Take your time and do it right. Thank you so much for educating me a bit about subjects I don't know much about and peaking my interest in those that I do.
