    I'm less of a movie buff and more of a gamer so I'd totally watch history buffs reviews of historical games.
    and for you and your channel, it might be a good thing to cover more than just movies, while there are many historically inspired movies, you can only make one video/series each, adding games only means less risk of running out of options later on.

      Even from one single game you could do several videos, for example, the many campaings that you could find on the Age of Empires saga (at least the II and III have different campains throught history). I would really love that and I know that many paople would too.

      I would love to him do a review of the game called Kingdome Come Deliverance as it is known for being so very detailed and is laborious for the player and developers. Since he reviews movies all the time I don't think he would be able to spend the 70-ish hours to complete the game in full

    Romance of the Three Kingdoms doesn't get enough love in the west and I understand why: There's almost never a focus on it in shows and movies with the exception of games and they always do Great Wall movies or Mongol invasions but this looks interesting. I'm more of a fan of Total War: Shogun 2 myself but I might give this a try.

    • @-Zevin-
      @-Zevin- 5 років тому +32

      The Three kingdoms period is fascinating so i do hope you give it a try. It was a crazy time historically, with the almost century long conflict claiming the lives of almost 50% of the population of China, with a death toll in the tens of millions. This makes it one of the greatest losses of life in human history as a percent of the population. Even eclipsing ww2. The scale of the conflict is mind-blowing for the time period, absolutely dwarfing anything in Roman history for instance with the size of the armies and battles.

      RedTeamReview oh boy.. Barefoot asian peasants fighting with sticks in total war.... they should have done medieval 3. But "MuH diVerSitY" so here have a total war set in smelly backward ancient china, where you can make armies of rice farmers in wicker armor and pointy hats. I guess seeing how they made it look like a shitty mobile game for filthy casuals I'm sort of glad they didn't do m3tw.

      @Chudea 5 років тому +11

      To clarify... TCA invites popular youtubers, supplies them with good video footage and expects promotion videos for their newest product. It's nothing more than advertisement for an upcoming game with a pinch of historical information to camouflage it among the actual content of this otherwise great channel

    • @GriffinPilgrim
      @GriffinPilgrim 5 років тому +9

      A pretty poor camouflage; Nick states upfront that he was invited by CA and then gives his own impression of what he saw, making sure to state what he actually experienced and what he was merely told about. It may attract people to the game, sure, and certainly the hope of that will be why CA does it. But ultimately Nick made the video and gave his own opinion. If it had been negative CA would have had to live with it. Unless you have credible reason to suspect he was in someway forced or coerced into giving a positive impression then this is just another video and its positive impression no less honest than that of, say, his Waterloo review. Or are youtubers only allowed to talk about things they dislike now?

    I'm SO glad that you took the time to do a game review! I fell in love with the Three Kingdoms Era and the Sengoku Era in Japan BECAUSE of playing games my Sengoku Musou and other embellished games. I love comparing games that cover the same time period from different companies because they tend to focus on different people (Koei for example is very pro-Oda Nobunaga/Toyotomi Hideyoshi while Capcom seems to favor Tokugawa Ieyasu.)
    I don't know how practical it is for you but I'd love to see you touch on games and where they excel or fail historically. Assassins Creed? Other Total War Games?
    Also PLEASE review the movie Red Cliff!

    So awesome, Dynasty Warriors inspired my love for history, I bought the Romance of the Three kingdoms book when I was 14. It was very heavy but it inspired my love of history. I have actually reccomended you watch Red Cliff before. I am from Saratoga in NY where the battle of Saratoga happened, and visited Gettysburg's twice now. I love The Adirondacks and took History classes on it and very much love Native American history aswell...this all stemming from Romance of the Three kingdoms so I owe it a lot. Don't think I ever would have found your channel if not for it.

      You should check out the 2010 tv series three kingdoms by far the best interpretation of the story i've seen so far every actor just fits their role so perfectly also did you hear about that dynasty warriors movie they're making looks like a cheesy good time

    • @MegaMerlin2011

      REALLY?! A TV show!? I'm trying to remember if I've seen it. I saw something in 2011 when I was holding down an apartment in Shanghai and bored out of my mind. I heard there was supposed to be 3 new movies better than Red Cliffs, but I've only seen the 1 with Donnie Yen when he plays Guan Yu during the time Guan Yu temporarily works for Cao Cao. Three Kingdoms is an AMAZING tale equal to the Iliad with numerous god-like historical officers.

    • @Reacted1991
      @Reacted1991 5 років тому +1

      god i hated that guan yu movie like the action and everything else was fine but he didn't have have that epic beard it isn't guan yu without the beard that ruined the whole movie for me but ya the series is eacy to find they have every episode on youtube just type in three kingdoms and whatever ever episode number you want to watch so for you or any new comers you'll type in three kingdoms 1 it also gose by war of the three kingdoms depending on who uploaded the videos the whole thing is 95 episodes so it's perty lengthy but really good story but there are plenty anime's out theres too as for movies the only really good one i've seen there is one called Three Kingdoms Resurrection of the Dragon following zhao yun but i just didn't like that one then theres the assassins witch follows an assassin trying to kill cao cao near the end of his life there are three animated movies witch looks really good but i've only been able to find the first one really red cliff is the best rotk movie i could find the only one i could think that tops it is that 2010 series i mentioned

      xxFalconArasxx well why not mainly my interest in greek mythology comes from god of war and then i started you research the real mythology and the dynasty warriors games are what drew my attention to the three kingdoms period like sure alot of these video games could be as historically accurate as Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter but for alot of us they're what draw our attention to the the real history or mythology's they mite be based off of

    Napoleon: Total War had spies, spy training and spy networks. Empire: Total War had Agents who could be used as spies, also.
    Needless to say, I don't think it's the first time in the TW series that you've been able to use spies, it just sounds like they'll be more developed than in earlier TW titles.

    • @Develpup
      @Develpup 5 років тому +15

      Dude, you and everyone else that has thrown the whole "Total War had spies before." Yeah, they did. Not like this. The spies were hardly needed in past games. Now spies can literally be your general without you knowing it.
      To me and many others, this is new stuff. They're more useful now.

    • @jonathan4554
      @jonathan4554 5 років тому +1

      They might be implying that you can spread false information like you'll see some phantom army in the world map only to discover that it was not a real army when you engage it therefore wasting your time and energy paying attention to it. Or maybe they finally have the feature where you can betray your allies and switch sides while in the middle of battle.

    • @GriffinPilgrim

      Agreed, LUDIO. It sucked. Comparing this garbage to the Band of Brothers is an insult to the latter. Not only because it had historical inaccuracies, but because it also sucked from the storytelling point of view. Characters randomly bumping into each other on, because Eastern Front was in fact a very small place (sarcasm). Characters' behavior was sometimes very inconsistent, especially considering Charlotte, the nurse. And the propaganda... mein Gott. Only real antisemites in these series (except for few nazis) were Ukrainians and Poles. Germans were just "misguided", apparently. Propaganda in this aspect was just Jud Süß levels of bad.

I don't want to sound naive with foresight, but I'm fairly sure that the release date will be announced before the end of the year or at the begginning of the next year, otherwise they wouldn't even bother to do all that for Gamescom

    I am very afraid about the historical mode. In my opinion they haven't shown anything historicaly correct yet.
    The combats are extremely unrealistic, even between simple soldiers. There is no longer killing animations so you watch thousands of men killing their ennemy by sending wind at them with their sword.
    The game still looks amazing if you don't mind about History, but to me it is the main reason I place interest into Total War games. And I truly think the historical mode will just be a different UI and general system, but that the battle will still look the same.
    We'll see anyway, I really expected you to talk about this. To what I understand, at the current state this game is not a historical one.

      You could argue that killing animations killed the historical accuracy in other games.
      No historical battle involved every single soldier splitting off into duels with another single soldier like in Shogun 2 or Rome 2.
      I guess its personal preference, but I'm fine with leaving the fancy one on one animations to the generals.

    I think reviewing the occasional historic video game would would be a nice addition to the channel. I understand that your focus should stay on TV and movies, but once in a while reviewing a video game would not only bring variety, it would introduce some interesting discussions about history and its use in video games. For example, I've never played Rome: Total War, but I'm told it is generally historically accurate and can be used as an education tool. You're my favorite history channel on youtube and I think your perspective could add a lot to this discussion.

    I don't know how familliar you are with martial arts.
    But it seems to me the prevalence of swords is unrealistic.
    With a spear you have a massive range advantage over a sword.
    But spears don't look cool, so they're less good in games.
    And in large numbers spears are even better.
    The only time where swords where prevalent was by the Romans.
    But they would use spears all the time as well.
    I don't know how useful it is to review games.
    The most important aspect of that would be to discuss the realism of battle mechanics.
    You seem to focus on accuracy of the stories told.
    When it comes to games I couldn't care less about the accuracy of the story line.
    If you do a review that focuses on this aspect, make sure you make that clear.

      yonderthegreat, I'm talking about how fast paced the battles have become, gameplay mechanics not actually historical accuracy, I just miss the slower paced battles that made me fall inlove with total war, a few stones from a trebuchet now knocks wall down, units automatically have ladders instead of building them, units movement speed is way too fast to name a few. I miss the times when I actually have some time to watch units fight and admire the battlefield.

    I feel “Communist” was the wrong word here. “Totalitarian” would have been more appropriate. Communism is a economic system based around the elimination of social classes and the equal distribution of wealth among the labor force. Totalitarianism is a government system based around the total control of the population, often primarily through fear and heavy policing of any dissenting opinions.

    • @noahmasi9368
      @noahmasi9368 5 років тому +4

      Timmy Wotsit Not really. Marx’s idea of Communism was about laborers coming together to institute reforms more favorable to the working class, over a number of years. Totalitarianism is usually instituted fairly quickly and involves rapid militarization and absolute control over the population by the government, typically a single party dictatorship. Sure, many dictatorships have been “Communist”, but they usually don’t actually follow its tenants that closely. Places like North Korea and the Soviet Union has more in common with the Third Reich than anything to do with Communist ideology.

    • @Bakuninite
      @Bakuninite 5 років тому +1

      I wouldnt be so quick to throw the USSR and the DPRK under the bus like that. For starters, neither of them took it upon themselves to wipe out an entire race of people and conducted industrial genocide. The Third Reich very much stands on its own on that one, and no matter how you regard Stalin, you should make a distinction between the people who started the holocaust and the people who ended it.
      More importantly, both the USSR and the DPRK are countries with decades of history, and within that, there is a lot of ebb and flow. Life in the USSR was incomparably different in 1926 to how it was in 1936, and both of those were very different than life during the Khruschev Thaw, or the Brezhnev-era stagnation. Even North Korea has had quite a bit of fluctuation. Hell, during the Korean War, it would not be a stretch to say that North Korea was actually the much nicer Korea (Look at what South Korea did on Jejudo for example). Of course, by the 1970s, they had a full blown cult of personality, and the 1990s were a particularly troubling decade. There does seem to be some improvement in the last few years, though.
      My point in all of this is that all Communist countries, but especially long-lived ones, are complicated societies, and simply writing them off as "totalitarian" does a disservice to the actual history.

    This is definitely not your forte. I was looking forward to this game until it was obvious the focus was on fantasy and drawing the warhammer crowd and historical crowd together. Somehow the total war games of late have seemed more game and less wargame. Hope I am wrong. The direction I would have wanted would have been more realistic mechanics and less Hollywood as the game matured. Instead we are not only getting compromises and ridiculous game mechanics, we now get a focus on outright fantasy. I wanted to learn more about Chinese ancient warfare through this game. I don’t trust them at all anymore.

The problem is that the Historical-mode will simply be the Romance one but without the generals and some mechanics. But the rest of the gameplay is going to be the same for both, same as the combat, units and tactics. So even if you want to stick to the Historical-mode, you will still play the Romance version, simply without the characters. I hope this clarify the argument Destraex Destraex.
