Does the Summit Hydraulic 6 solenoid multiplier attach directly into the 3rd function/rear remote on a JD 3046R? Then using a combination of the electronic control box included in the kit and the 3rd function button on hydraulic joystick I can choose and operate 1 of 6 hydraulic cylinders? I now understand that I have an option of using hoses from the front to the rear without the additional $1500 dealer was gang to charge for the rear remote. Not sure which way I’ll go but I like options and even better, understanding them!
Thanks for clearing this up. I'm new in this tractor stuff. But you been a BIG help. 8 months in ownership and need to get a graffel now. O the power of attachments. Lol keep up the great videos.
You're right. It gets confusing. I bought an ATV trailer with a hydraulic lift. My 1025R has a 3rd function. So, dealer says impossible to run the trailer off Power Beyond. Watching Outdoors with Morgan, his RK had a 2nd lever for the rear hydraulics. My head hurts.
Courtney, you brought up about the additional hydraulic circuits having value on a tractor. Someone considering a new or used tractor and concerned about the cost of additional hydraulic, should also realize that not only the advantages of using it, but also the additional hydraulic function/s adds value to the machine come take-in time. May be more dollars up front, but well worth it in usability, and resale value. Hydraulics are a wonderful thing!

When I was shopping for a compact tractor approximately 2 years ago I did not understand tractor hydraulics. I thought I was going to get a grapple right away. I told the dealer I wanted loader mounted 3rd function. He talked about running the hoses from the back to the front and that sounded like a cobble job. I ended up with a 2025R because Deere announced a loader mounted 3rd function kit with loader control mounted buttons. Dealers certified welder also cut down my ROPS to fit into my trailer. I also did not under stand power beyond. I like my 2025R but if I was doing it again I would have a large 2 series.
That was an excellent explanation!!! I recently added 3 factory rear remotes to my Kubota L3130. Navigating the factory parts listings and terminology was an exercise in futility to say the least.
Doing a kubota website build, and having no explanations on any of this and their many options...frustrating to say the least. This was great, thank you.
Excellent video. I will be adding a Summit rear diverter kit once I get my new tractor. With the top and tilt I am adding, it leaves me with one more slot, so the diverter will be a great addition.
This was informative. I've had good luck with my WR Long 3rd function kit. It only runs up front but it would be cool to have lines running out the back too.
Thanks for a clear explanation. I am new to tractors and (was) very confused about "3rd function" and "rear remote" and about hydraulics in general. You helped a lot. I will probably buy a diverter kit from SUmmit based on this video, so they should value you.
2025r with backhoe. When backhoe off, do they make a kit to use rear hydraulics as a third function. Can you just mount another control valve and hoses so have rear as third function
The circuit for the backhoe is called a power beyond circuit. It can be used to power a diverted valve or block like shown in the video. Search for power beyond kits.
Another very instructive video. I agree, while it is common for a tractor to have a 3rd function up front for a grapple, it is no different than having a 3rd function out the back instead for a hydraulic top link. Adding a hydraulic tilt means you need a 4th function. The cheapest way to get a function out the back is to manually swap hoses with the curl/dump connectors. That is how I currently run my side shift flail mower. But if I needed to use the bucket I'd be out of luck. That multiplier looks interesting as I have a rear connection for the backhoe.
I've found sometimes the easiest way to figure out what you need (with many things in life, not just tractors) is identify what it is you want to do (the end result) and work backwards to identify what you need to accomplish that result. And once you've identified that process or parts, look at them to see if they incur any hidden costs (limiting the functionality to do something else) or benefits (say a tool that meets today's need, but can serve other functions that would be needed in the future. Then, obviously, factor in costs.
So... if ya confunction several functions together, you can expand diverters off any junction of conjunctions? Think I have it figured out now, except for the solinodil thing...diverter valve right lol. Good video of explaining it all GWT... The 3rd function should be standard on these CUT's .
I really wish i spent more time with my JD buddies back in the shop when they was messing with stuff like this building stuff for the state weather it be awesome mower kits or plowing equipment. I see thay tractor and think about a spilt blade for the front and how absolutely epic that set up would be for plowing ! Soooo cool all the equipment we have these days. Absolutely 100% agree with ya on the 3rd function deal as well. Hell it's taken them forever to even put remotes on smaller tractors and mist expensive ass ones still don't have them 😬 pretty cool and TBH idk why the hell they wouldn't sell em anyway with ones for the front and two in the back. Kinda like how the orange dudes had stuff set up on the front so ya could just rock a blade kinda like the beefy JD lawn tractors had in the day. Always thought it would be handy and hell for how much they cost would be a easy sell. Now a we have powerboxes as more equipment becomes available for tractor use that we would have taken for granted on the skiddys. Always cool the amount of power a hydro circuit can have with even a small amount of pressure. Really feeling for my new buddy down in the woods doing some building 🤦🏼♂️ he has a pretty decent tractor with a loader but no grapple and boy he sure could use it RN with the brush
Have a question I have not really seen answered here or anywhere else, Wanting to install one of these on an older tractor using its circuits to run the front loader. So my 3 circuit box I would install would power the loader main lift, flex wing main lift, and flex wing wings. Hay cutter and so on. When I decide to switch circuits I need the previous one to hold pressure as its holding something in the air till I go back to it! I reached out to summit and they confirmed the solenoids are continuous duty so you can leave then switched on, but nothing on switching under pressure?
Great video but as a new tractor owner I am a little confused, So is power beyond a possible 3rd function? Can you add a controller switch and use it as a 3rd? Maybe for Top & Tilt or even a grapple?
@@GoodWorksTractorsThank you for getting back to me. Is that a good way to go or is there a better option? I need to be able to use my backhoe as needed but I would also like top & tilt option at times as well, my tractor came with a front 3rd option for my grapple. Also, will you be having merch with your new logo soon?
Thanks mate! These vids are an incredible resource for newbs like me. I’ve inherited a compact JD 2305 (which happens to be one of only two Deere’s that you recommend against 😂🤣) somehow I knew that was coming when I started watching - oh well, gift horses and all that…
Yeah just to had to the confusion you also have the rear connection to the backhoe that is calle the power beyond. I also wonder if there is a practical way of using it lets say for the rear snowblower controls. I did see a guy use it for a log splitter since it has its own control valves.
thank you again for the very informational video. I am in the process of buying a compact tractor and to be honest, with all these brands and models it is not an easy decision to make. looking at the 3038e, the LS mt240 the mahindra 1635... slowly going towards the mahindra has my LS dealers are prety far appart in my region in Quebec Canada . Keep up the good work xxx
Thanks for the great explanation. Cleared up a few lingering questions I have had. Have been wanting to put a third "circuit" for the front and back on my RK24 and TC33D for a while but unsure of what and how I wanted to do it. I'll use "GWT" at Summit for the diverter and multiplier. Thanks again.
Can the third function be hard piped to the front & the rear to quick couplers. Such that when this function is being used on either end to the tractor the quick coupler on the oppsite end will not leak?
I don’t care what anyone else says you have information that is useful and usually puts a smile on my face at the same time. Do you offer any financing or do you go through a local finance company? I am getting all my ducks in a row because I have about 1 year until I am seriously looking to buy instead of researching what will fit my needs best like I am doing now. I am pretty sure I will have to go with a 1025 unless I find a great deal on a 2 or 3 series.
Haha, I appreciate that sir! I do have financing, but only available in certain states right now. Hopefully by the time you're ready, I'm back to normal with financing available in all of the continental US.
I have an older Farmall which has "one way" hydraulics. (IE: It provides pressure to "lift", but when you select "lower" it just goes to basically "float" and lets the implement down by gravity) I've always wanted to find a way to take that one way flow and plumb it into some sort of diverter valve to allow adding two way remotes.
I just bought my dads JD 4100. It has 2 circuits built in for a front end loader, which I dont have. Any reason I cannot have some hoses made and run to a manifold in the back where I can add an adjustable link and tilt?
Love you’re videos. I wish I had found your channel sooner.. rep for my JD dealer out here sold me a 2025R When I really would have done better with something larger.. now I’m stuck and limited, live and learn I guess!
Great video, I wish you would have done this a year ago. I use my 3rd function for my front snow blade angulation and when needed, I ran another set of hoses to the rear of my tractor to act as a rear remote. So I have to disconnect the hoses that go to the front and connect the hoses that go to the rear, but it is well worth it to be able to control my hydraulic top link. Now if you can explain the different Hydraulic coupler to me :-), I am always unsure of what couplers I really need.
Question: I have a Branson 2515 with a backhoe. When my backhoe is off, I connect the 2 lines to each other to complete the circuit. I want to add a hydraulic toplink for use with my box blade. What is the cheapest, but correct way to accomplish this? Being a new tractor owner, I would think that I could run those 2 lines to a control box (with a control lever), then run 2 lines to the hydraulic toplink, however I haven't seen anything on the market that would do this. Any advice?
I am looking for some rear remotes and a third function for my Massey GC-1720. I like that multiplier you have on the back. I'd like to get something like that to fit on mine. I'd be using the hoses from the backhoe while it is off, but it has 3 lines. What is the third line for and do I need to hook it up if I am using a multiplier bank? I want tilt and level for my box blade mostly, so would like 3 or 4 extra circuits.
Thank you thank you thank you thank you sir! I am looking at buying a tractor my first compact tractor ever. I am telling you I have not a clue what the heck everybody's been talkin about. Just help me understand it way easier. My next question to you is if I bought one with a rear remote do they make something smaller like the diverter you got on the back of your 4066r that will give me a few more functions without giving me 10 function? I think I know the answer to that is yes because I've seen it in a bunch of other videos you had on other tractors. But I'm not for sure if it was the same thing I like the little box and being able to wire it I can do all that myself what would something like that cost on your 4066r? Just a rough cost of materials I can do all the plumbing and wiring. Ps. Sorry about the last questions I asked that before I went down to the comments. It's in the comments right there I went to Summit website that is awesome so simple to find and really affordable I thought. For the fourth circuit would be for complete circuits correct? Or would that be two functions?
Any idea where I can get a power beyond kit for 3032e. I’m looking to install a snow blower on the 3 point. Also I have been looking at the rear remote kit from summit
After some reflection, I think the confusion over what constitutes a "third-function" comes from the manufacturer's (Summit, WD Long, etc.) of the "third-function kits" and their choice of description of their product. These kits are all labeled as a "third-function kit". All of these kits add an addition hydraulic circuit, and these kits tap into the existing loader circuit to add this circuit to the front of the loader (what you called "grapple-ready" - yet another term to add to the confusion, though it does more clearly describe it). Perhaps what these manufacturers should have called this kit is a "loader 3rd-function kit". It would then specifically apply to just the loader, and there wouldn't be this confusion. It clearly reflects that it is adding a 3rd function to the loader. About the JD that had the "III" on the label. That "III" would only apply if the loader is standard on that tractor - and it assumes that you start counting your functions with the loader, then move on to the rear. I can see counting the total number of functions that you have; the problem comes in when you start assigning numbers to any specific one of the functions.
Just thinking key word is beyond, so it is just hydraulic flow for an implement beyond the tractor that has it's self contained circuit control. It may be a levered implement (backhoe) or something that may have electronic solenoid circuit control.
Good question. Yes, you need a control valve (stop/start flow) in between the tractor and attachment. To be honest, I'm not positive if the multiplier would work with PB. Although many do install a traditional hydraulic valve on their PB, so leads me to believe it would.
Good explanation. To add even more confusion i did something a bit different on my 1025R. I added power beyond which provides constant fluid to an additional dual function SCV that came with an implement i purchased. Poor mans way of getting 3rd & 4th function or maybe we could say 2 sets of remotes which can easily be removed if desired. 🤪
I have been looking at Summit for a front 3rd function and a rear 4 outlet hydraulic set. I have a 2009 2520 John deere tractor and they do not have a kit to match my model and they are not sure which present model would match my 2520. Is there a kit that would fit my tractor on the kits they list? I don't want spend the money and find out it does not fit. I do not have the Power Beyond kit and do not have a need for it.
Are your 4th and 5th SCVs mechanical levers and fully independent SCVs? In my 3320 (factory cab) the kit I've found on the JD parts website points to the 4th and 5th SCV option actually being a diverter from the loader joystick, whereas the open station can have a ROPs mounted independent 4th and 5th. I have open slots in the control station plastic trim (which looks very similarl to your tractor), so I'm wondering if there's an option for additional SCVs that are not diverted from the loader joystick.
Open center are poor at multiple simultaneos functions. But a closed center pump with load sense can cost $$$. Big machines like excavators use closed center. So they can boom in, gather and curl at same time with good control.
Where did you get your 3pt tilt/raise/lower ram and will it mount to bigger tractors? Thinking that would be really good for putting a dipper on the back of a tractor for steep hillside usage ;) Even for digging in around barns where hillsides are an issue.
@@GoodWorksTractors That was the three point lift arm ram? Not the top link... Do you have a part number for it or know of anyone else making any? Thank You
@@GoodWorksTractors I found your other video with a part number for the tilt/top link kit. Also saw you using it in more detail. This tilt setup wouldn't work for me. Do you know if they make on about twice the length? More for a mid or 100hp tractor?
When I was introduced to all this at the dealer I learned 'third function ' as being exclusive to the front and with couplers at the end of the loader. The rear connections were called rear remotes. If you don't use that terminology I would ask what you call raising the 3 point? Isn't that a function? I guess it's only half of one.
Maybe I am too old, but whatever happened to good old fashioned spool valves that were ganged together? If you needed more you just bolted on another spool and ran more lines/ hoses.
A True 3rd Function has it's own circuit of fluid, unlike a diverter kit that robs the hydraulic flow from another function. So with a true 3rd function you can operate both functions same time unlike a diverter kit. Did you say that already, lol?
I’m thinking of a 1025R purchase. Has anyone installed a Summit diverter circuit and then installed a mechanical diverter on the “3rd” function? My idea is to mechanically divert the hydraulic flow between a loader grapple, for example, and a rear remote I would install for snow blower chute rotation. Wondering if anyone has a kit like this. It would be fairly easy, just some more hoses and fittings.
If you only have 2 hydraulic circuits on your loader, and you add a rear remote then I would say that rear remote is the 3rd function. If you have your 2 loader circuits plus a rear remote and then add an additional circuit to your loader I would argue that's a fourth function. But maybe people by calling it a 3rd function aren't counting anything but the functions on your loader. No matter how many other remotes you have. I have a feeling that's what people are getting at.
Great video good sir! So many get confused by this! Especially when they cannot use all three circuits at the same time and wonder why. 🙂 Solenoid!! 😂 Love the brotherly interaction! Have a wonderful weekend!
I actually just priced the factory deere 3rd function for my 1025r its $1000 for parts to make it "grapple ready". $1500 for the parts and to have my dealer to install it, but many people have to me that you can install it yourself.
It takes a trained JD technician 7-8 hours to install the JD 3rd function on the 1025r. It's an absolute nightmare of a process. You should see the amount of disassembly required. If they are only charging you $500 to install it, then you're getting a deal. I'm not aware of anyone tackling that install themselves.
@@GoodWorksTractors dually noted! Thank you! I have several around where I live that have done it. Said it is ALOT of disassembling but nothing someone mechanically inclined couldn't tackle tho, so I've been told
I'm confused now lol. I didn't realize how many options there are for tractors plus there are multiple ways to get them. Then I looked at how much tractors cost but there are so many uses and ways to configure them it's no wonder you need a degree to figure out how to spec them out.
Okay, forewarning: “old school” factory 3rd function question here. MACHINE: New Holland Lx565 (i.e., the “x" stands for came standard with “auxillary,” or 3rd function circuit flat quick connects mounted on left boom arm from factory, Serial Number 39115) skid steer with hand (steering) and foot (left = boom, right = bucket or curl) controls. IMPORTANT NOTE: the auxillary control (3rd function) is operated by tilting the right handgrip downward toward one’s right thigh (can be locked there with a slide pin) AND mechanically opens and closes a third spool on the control valve under the floorboard, i.e., 3rd function is NOT electrically operated through a solenoid valve. QUESTION: to add a fixed arm backhoe attachment (i.e., skid steer steering does backhoe swing; skid steer boom does backhoe up/down (kingpost or boom); skid steer bucket (curl) does backhoe “elbow”(dipper) and the backhoe bucket cylinder comes with an electrical plug that later model joystick operated units have a receptacle for (which Lx565s lack!), can I operate (i.e., with FULL feathering capabilities) the fixed arm backhoe attachment’s bucket cylinder simply by rotating the Lx565’s right handgrip (WITHOUT locking in place), or do I need to add an extra 2-way hydraulic valve in the auxillary circuit (i.e., and lock the right handgrip rotated down toward my thigh)?
Heck our John Deere dealer charged us $4,800 for installing the 3rd function on our new 3046R with cab 3 years ago. A couple of months ago the 3rd function quit working and cost us $380 for a JD dealership to fix it and it lasted about a month and quit working again. This tractor has been nothing but trouble from day one. With a FEL and a shredder mower i don't think it is worth the $53k we paid for it.
I have been working with farm tractors since before hydraulics were common. At first they were referred to by the number of SCV they had ie single valve, dual valve etc. Remotes were the pair of couplers that corresponded to each valve. If they were behind the rear axle they were rear remotes. , ahead of it front remotes. The total number of remote pairs determined the number of functions. Doesn't matter if the function is controlled by a diverter or by a SCV it is still a function.
Hello Courtney that was really awesome video we loved it. But now do the video in "English" this time rather than Hebrew I think thats what we heard ?.... Keep up the great work we will be buying products from Good Works tractor from time to time. Godspeed !
good but slightly confusing explanation. But ya do have to use the proper terminology in order to talk about it and make sense. Thanks again for what ya do.
Ok I think I got it now, with {diverter valve} you cant grab and curl same time, but with a {3rd function} you can. Therefore I want to grab and curl same time so I need a {3rd function} set up..........

You would need to install a double acting control valve in order to utilize Power Beyond.
I'm not aware of any better options, but perhaps the guys at Summit know of one? Hopefully more merch in stock soon! Thanks for following along!
The Whistlindiesel hat love it
I noticed that also, read comments before saying it myself haha
Haha, that guy is great
So what would you need to run a auger on the front end loader where you still need the 2 bucket controls while also spinning the auger
I really enjoy and learn a lot from your videos. This has nothing to do with your show but, what brand of shirt/jacket is that and where can I get one
Great video, at this time I don't feel that is something I need right now but wonderful to know or help someone else with.
Love you’re videos. I wish I had found your channel sooner.. rep for my JD dealer out here sold me a 2025R When I really would have done better with something larger.. now I’m stuck and limited, live and learn I guess!
Awesome video, I'd definitely rig something up to cover that multiplier. Great explanation
Great explanation. Can you clarify “power beyond”?
Question: I have a Branson 2515 with a backhoe. When my backhoe is off, I connect the 2 lines to each other to complete the circuit. I want to add a hydraulic toplink for use with my box blade. What is the cheapest, but correct way to accomplish this? Being a new tractor owner, I would think that I could run those 2 lines to a control box (with a control lever), then run 2 lines to the hydraulic toplink, however I haven't seen anything on the market that would do this. Any advice?
Good question and I'm not positive of the answer. I'd start with a conversation to summit-hydraulics.com and see if they have what you need.
@@GoodWorksTractors Will do, thanks for the fast response. Love the video's!
Can you show us how you mounted that 6-way multiplier on your 6066? Inquiring minds want to know...
Yeah, need to do that at some point.
I bought the summit diverter kit. My question is is the load lever on the loader arm adjustable to keep it from rubbing on the new line fittings
Question I have a Kioti ck2510 with power Beyond could I use it for the 3rd Function
How do you do it? Another great explanation. I have ordered the Summit Diverter kit for my 1025R. Thanks for the 5% and the lessons on tractors. 😎
Very good info. clarified it well and helped me understand what it's all about. Thanks
Can that 6 circuit control be connected to power beyond? I would think so...
i was going to ask if power beyond is considered 3rd function.
No it can't because there is no control over each circuit...
No, typically not because it is continuous flow. Nothing to stop or start the the circuit once connected.
I just received my Summit Hydraulics diverter kit for my 1025r. Looking forward to installing it. Thanks for the 5% off! Keep the great videos coming.
Another great video! Is there anyway you can add one of those hydraulic multipliers to your power beyond?
I could not find that 6 Hyd. Multiplier manifold from summit hyd. Where did you purchase that whole unit ?
Good explanation and nice presentation
100% agree. Thank you for the explanation and tips!
your explanation seems reasonable.
I have a power beyond kit on my 4310 , can that be used to power the kits without doing new piping from the tractor
Hey! What kind of tires did you have on that 4 series?
I’ve been trying to find a “versa tire” equivalent for my 3039r
I have been unable to find the part number for a John Deere 3025E 3rd function can you please help me.
I wasn't aware there was a 3rd function kit for it? I'm not a Deere dealer though and don't have access to their parts system.
Where did you get your 3pt tilt/raise/lower ram and will it mount to bigger tractors? Thinking that would be really good for putting a dipper on the back of a tractor for steep hillside usage ;) Even for digging in around barns where hillsides are an issue.
It is a John Deere part, but I bought it with my tractor.
Good stuff man!
Another great video. You are a wealth of great knowledge.
Very well explained. Keep up the good videos 😊.
Very well said. Good job.
I think that was a plenty detailed explanation, thanks.
that multiplier is awesome! just made that 40066r even cooler!!!!!!
Thanks, for clearing that up.
Excellent description! Thanks!
He did say that 😉
Nicely explained. Semantics can be confusing and the source of arguments! LOL
Seems doable to me!
Clear as mud! 😂👍 Thanks for watching!
I'll ask the dumb question - Does adding all these extra valves and hoses require additional hydraulic fluid?
Just enough to fill the empty space in the lines and valves. So a little bit, but not much.
People will take issue with anything you say or do. Don't worry about it.
Great video good sir! So many get confused by this! Especially when they cannot use all three circuits at the same time and wonder why. 🙂
Solenoid!! 😂 Love the brotherly interaction! Have a wonderful weekend!
Great video.
Ģreat explanation, very thorough.
Please do a video on ways of converting a pin-on bucket to a removal bucket. I love my John Deere 955 and wish it had a removal bucket. Thank You!!
Great video
good explanation
Thanks!
Great explanation good vid, job well done by the videographer...😂😂😎👌
I have been working with farm tractors since before hydraulics were common. At first they were referred to by the number of SCV they had ie single valve, dual valve etc. Remotes were the pair of couplers that corresponded to each valve. If they were behind the rear axle they were rear remotes. , ahead of it front remotes.
The total number of remote pairs determined the number of functions. Doesn't matter if the function is controlled by a diverter or by a SCV it is still a function.
Great video, perfect explanation. Never knew you had a multiplayer which could run so many different functions from the cab. Thanks so much.
Yeah, that multiplier is cool! Thanks for watching!
Hello Courtney that was really awesome video we loved it. But now do the video in "English" this time rather than Hebrew I think thats what we heard ?.... Keep up the great work we will be buying products from Good Works tractor from time to time. Godspeed !
Thank you
good but slightly confusing explanation. But ya do have to use the proper terminology in order to talk about it and make sense. Thanks again for what ya do.
Ok I think I got it now, with {diverter valve} you cant grab and curl same time, but with a {3rd function} you can. Therefore I want to grab and curl same time so I need a {3rd function} set up..........
you got it!
