- We are now on our 6th day of PIP watch! The day at Big Bear Valley has been beautifully sunny, with a maximum of 47°F temp during the day.
My errors in this video may be opportunities for you to test your knowledge who is at the nest, who is at the nearby tree, what time were the events (minor/major) happening, etc.
I need to apologize to you for neglecting, missing to insert captions in quite a number of frames/clips. I got distracted by my day job 😆🙏🏼. I will also be in absentia tomorrow (03/06/24) but will do my best to catch up... may probably end up just highlighting major activities when I get home.
Today's highlights in summary:
1. Shadow arrived early before or at exactly 6AM, Jackie perched at a nearby tree. She chortles to Shadow and he responded softly.
2. A lot of PIP checks by the LiveCam-1 operators, every single opportunity when J/S aerate fluffs and roll the eggs.
3. Jackie LEFT THE EGGS twice! 😱 I was at the edge of my seat holding my breath!
4. Shadow brought Jackie a gift. As always, she gives her adult squee-squees 😁.
5. Jackie made me laugh around 5pm-ish... I am not going to tell you what it is. Hint: I duplicated the clip - normal play, slo-mo, and closeup.
6. Jackie gave us all this very beautiful stare with her head tilted. I hope I did get to insert that clip 😵💫🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼.
7. Not sure if it is just my imagination, but I am hearing a lot of faint tiny chirps in the afternoon, just before Jackie bolted out of the nest.

Just like you, I am a simple, insatiably-obsessed "auntie" to J&S. They have been Abba Father's gift to me when I was going through my chemo therapy. That fire for these two has never been quenched, hence, sharing that gift of learning about their behaviors, traits, and just be left in awe of their presence and fierce, steely, and majestic eyes with you. That would include the goofiness as well (Jackie did it in today's video) 😊❤️🙏🏼.

I was so heart broken when their eggs didn't hatch I cried. But they are strong and they will prevail. I love them and I truly appreciate all the effort and work that is used so we can watch these magnificent birds.

Stumbled last week on this channel & as I live in Edinburgh Scotland think we have a few golden Eagles in the Highlands protected birds..These 2 birds magnificent! Does shadow sleep nearby & do they ever share a nest when no eggs? This is a education for me as can't remember getting taught much about wildlife in general at school. Maybe because we don't have wildlife like this? Wish I wasn't in the city as love the countryside..Anyway love watching these 2 can't stop since last week! If only all humans are is caring! Fantastic upload..Love from Scotland 🏴🦅⭐️
Greetings from Maine! My family is from Lochearnhead and I've been there back in 1997. Trip of a lifetime! Read up on these amazing eagles! They mate for life and tend to the keep up of their nest until another year goes by for another set of eggs. Usually two.

They only use nests to brood. Otherwise they sleep perched on a branch.

If you watch 'wideview cam2' (something like that) the tree on the left of the screen is the nest tree and Shadow hangs out on the tree on the right of the screen. When they're not brooding they both hang out in that tree as far as i can tell. They even mate in that tree.
So grateful for your video summaries. I started watching on Friday or Saturday and now, like so many others around the world, I’m entranced. However this should turn out, our time observing and admiring has not been wasted. Seeing the beauty of these eagles and their natural parenting skills has been remarkable. Too bad humans aren't wired the same way. So many lessons to be learned. It's been an awfully snowy season.

Hi @byronallen3868, I believe it was close to 50 or 52 days. Shadow wouldn't give up brooding on 2023 eggs.

live camera hasnt been zooming in the last few times the eggs have been left alone. theres a storm coming in, for one day only should be sunny this weekend. hope for the best. after seeing jackie screeching so much... its sad.
Yes it's been frustrating that they turned off live chat for some time now. As well as like you say they're not even zooming in on the eggs anymore. Hearing Jackie screech OFF CAMERA was new to me and just felt very sad. Yet don't know what to make of all these things, trying not to jump to negative. It's hard when those 'in charge' of this community have gone silent.

no clue. Sandy Steers (FOBBV Exec Director and biologist) explains in her TV News interviews that there might be the ravens, visiting eagles who are flying too close to the nest.
I’ve been trying to find a live camera with comments, but cannot. I just found one video where it shows them live, but there are no comments and there are only two eggs now not three. Does anyone know what happened?
Nobody knows what's really going on, especially now that the mods have all gone silent and don't seem to be zooming in on the eggs. It's sad cuz it leaves everyone just fearing the worst. Really hope they open up live chat again or make some statements.
FOBBV turned off the live chat for now. I think they just want the space for J&S at this time. I understand viewers only want to express their concerns. FOBBV will reopen it again soon 🤞🏼

Question: I thought the night cam was infrared? There definitely seems to be a light as there is clearly a shadow being cast from a light source. You can see it on the last shot of Jackie in the nest and her body is casting a shadow, as well as the tree branches.
Great question, @SRtruth. I am not a techie so I am clueless if IRs can cast shadows or not. I will believe the professionals though. They have IRs in every eagle Cams, and do not seem to bother the eagles.

Jackie squees, twerps, and chortle on Shadow a lot. Just like what Sandy Steers (FOBBV Exec Dir, biologist) says - Jackie is the boss, but Shadow also have several tricks up his (sleeves) wings. 😊
Poor Jackie she's very agitated this afternoon, not like her to leave the eggs for so long 7 min they were in the shadows, wind and cold....I wonder if she knows something is wrong, poor Shadow doesn't know what to do....gosh I hope everything's ok
The same behavior was observed last year with the failed clutch. Jackie was the first to say ok were done. It was Shadow that held on for another two weeks?

Isn't it? Sandy Steers, FOBBV's founder and Exec Director who is also a biologist explains in her TV interview that visiting bald eagles would at times agitate Jackie. So she may be seeing some flying overhead. I also observed Shadow being melancholic, low energy. With Jackie's noted *sneezing* in the morning, I can confidently guess that Shadow may be under the weather 😢. Thank you for praying with us for our precious couple and their three wonderful eggs. 🙏🏼❤️

It sounds like she's (adult) "squeeing" to Shadow for the incoming food gift 😁. Notice juveniles have the same "cry" when parents are about to food drop 😂. Search for E21 and E22 (2023 SWFL Nest), also Jackie and Shadow's 2022 offspring "Spirit." They squee for their doordashed food 😁.

I see some small wholes in eggs how long will it be before then break open egg
If you read the chat there are links that explains what a PIP looks like, why they roll the eggs periodically, it’s fascinating!
If there really is a hole and can be confirmed a PIP, we can expect complete hatching up to 3 days from the first day of pipping ("hole" crack coming from inside).

My observation is I hope this pair have some eaglets to raise this year. I love the pair but I dislike the live chat and really find the overbearing, authoritative moderators worse than kill joys.
Thank you for saying this latter part. You’re so right. Now sometimes I understand it’s hard for them to keep up but omg yesterday they literally closed the chat because people were getting nervous about the eggs. And not just for like a few minutes but a while! And then when it opened people were thanking the mods?? I’m like huh? Very weird at times! Same weirdness on IG fan pages, comments get deleted left and right! SMH. It’s a pair of eagles not top secret stuff! People really need to chill and take themselves less seriously! Glad I’m not the only one interpreting things this way.
I understand, @ef2512. If we count the ratio of 3 volunteer admin/mods versus the over 50k viewers, I can see why they would clamp down the overwhelming surge of reactions, comments, etc. I can feel their hard work. Monitoring the LiveCams and LiveChats is extremely hard - cannot even have time for bathroom breaks. 🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼
@@Tavisola-SWRCARealtor I'm sorry but I don't see their work as "hard" and many of them aren't even in California. They say things as if they are fact when they aren't but if a commenter says something they don't like they block them or tell them to stop. Case in point was the "reed" from last season that everyone said was twine and when it turned out to be "twine" the mods acted like they never said it was a "reed". When called out in a joking manner, they blocked me. Now shutting down the chat knowing how many viewers are watching, waiting and love these eagles is so incredibly mean spirited. They remind me of mean teachers no one wanted to get.

Hi @havinfun5273, I inserted the eggs' hatch, pip, and 45-stretch dates in the intro/1st frame of 03/06 highlight videos so we do not panic on their viabilities. Sandy Steers (FOBBV founder, Exec Dir, and biologist) also noted in her Fox11 News interview that J&S' eggs usually hatch between the 39th and 42nd day, so we can all come down for now and keep praying for their successful hatching 🙏🏼.
