6-22-2022 Flying Fish and Close Encounters

- Yesterday was a busy day for Spirit and her parents. Her 1st fish was delivered to the roost tree, and we thought we might get our first glimpse of Spirit eating out on a branch… but Spirit was so occupied in going after Jackie’s ankles, the fish got away and fell to the forest floor! Spirit was shocked, flew around to several branches, searching for the lost fish and yes, she had quite the hissy fit that lasted for some time.
Not to worry, Shadow came through delivering fish #2 to the nest, it's safer that way! It appeared this time Spirit may have tried to intercept the delivery mid-air but was unsuccessful. She sure is learning all the tools of the eagle trade.
Another afternoon snack flew in, yes fish #3, Spirit grabbed it up and in beautiful form, mantled it just as she should! Shadow has sure learned some fancy footwork, keeping his ankles safe from his perfectly aggressive daughter. We are sure he is proud of the progress his fierce and majestic eaglet is making.
Ending the night, nature put on an impressive light and sound show, we captured some of the more impressive strikes from the wide view cam… lighting up the sky and the nest tree beautifully. Spirit came through the storm just fine, we spotted her this morning, perched under the nest.
* Spirit may attempt to hunt while she is still in the area, though will likely have poor results. Hunting skills take a lot of practice. Spirit will follow Jackie & Shadow around, watch and learn. She will learn to hunt by trial and error and rely mostly on scavenging and stealing from others for the first year while she perfects her flight and hunting skills. - Розваги

This eagle family means so much to me and thousands of others like me. I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma and breast cancer in June of 2020. I discovered Jackie and Shadow that fall. I was watching in early 2021 when their egg was broken and we could see the poor little beak sticking up, which would eventually would become part of the nest. These beautiful birds weathered every storm together. I was overjoyed when we finally hatched Shadow and held my breath every time she would get near the edge of the nest as if she were my own toddler. You got me through 14 chemos, 2 surgeries and a year of maintenance treatments to now cancer free. Thank you God and Thank you Big Bear Eagles. 💜 ❤️ 💜 I check in every day to try and get a glimpse of you. I await your return ☺️☺️☺️ 💋💋💋😘😘😘

Thank you so much. I've been laid up with a new knee, so seeing the young eagles all over the country lifted my spirits,
I had knee replacement surgery 5 yrs ago. Not fun👎🏽 Im supposed to have it done on my other knee but I been putting it off. Not my idea of a good time LOL
Physical therapy was OUCH🤕. Hope ur feeling better soon. Just gotta make sure u do ur exercises they teach you. It will eventually get better

Same here. 12 weeks post total knee replacement. Watching these eagles has been a joy and a great distraction,
Spirit looked disappointed she lost her fish in the roost tree then had a typical teenager temper tantrum until Shadow saved the day and delivered another fish.

THat lightening was crazy!! The storm didn't make it here in San Diego, we were expecting it but Im glad! Thank God Our Bald Eagle family werent harmed❗️I have heard being under a tree is dangerous during a lightening storm. A lady in Pico Rivera was walking her 2 dogs & all 3 were killed by a lightening strike⚡️ 😔
We dont have many lightening storms like that much at all thankfully.
I must say...Spirit is a very demanding lil girl. Holy moses!! LOL. Shadow sure knows to keep his tootsies away from her LOL. Such a super daddy. I just Love him so much🤗

Spirit has such a strong screech and then there's opposite over at Catalina West End is Sky and his sweet soft sounds lol.
The females seem to have higher tones I noticed and the males tones are lower 🥰

I just love what you capture in video and appreciate the time you put into doing it. Thank you. On another note, I have so much respect for Jacki, Shadow and all Bald Eagle parents… there instinctual commitment to their young even as the young get older and bite talons (and other body parts), the parents continue to feed them, teach them, protect them and care for them. Absolutely amazing.

Her first storm☔
Hoping all will read this and contact the mayor: Fireworks planned for July 4 at Big Bear lake.
I contacted the mayor pro tem Bynette Mote. She believes since Spirit fledged and in the name of patriotism, the fireworks (30-40 minutes) will go on as planned. Spirit lives in the forest now, where her parents still provide all food for her. I read Jackie & Shadow will feed her 4-12 months from fledging.
I know Spirit will be terrified if the noise and fireworks. Does anyone else agree with me? Fireworks are terrifying for our blessed veteran's and victims of war. And eaglets.

Gese. She is something else. She will definitely survive this one. But she needs to start getting her own fish, because she is too over the top. They can't even deliver the fish without getting attacked even one second now. It's too much. I hope this is just a survival of the fittest instinct and NOT entitlement. Don't know if this what all eaglets do.
