The Chariot Class: The Love Boat in Space.
That is one interesting design!
As an aside, I can see Admiral McCoy being strongarmed into Captaining this ship full of diplomats and balking at a crew member about shooting the delegates saying, "I'm a doctor, not a murderer! ... But, as a doctor, nothing prevents me from anesthetizing them in their sleep. Damn, that feels good and long overdue!"
What am I a doctor or a Moonshutle conductor
or he could force to attend a medical seminar of reproductive organs and mating practices
LOL The ship of Ironies has one more irony thrust upon it ;)
@@UniversalChallenge4454 - Run by The Doctor from Voyager!
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios - Yeah... But, it's tempered Iron-y.
Seeing this makes the USS Nog from Discovery make so much more sense and less out of place. I can totally see the Chariot design being a precursor to the Eisenberg class.
Ahhhhh lineage ;)
The Chariot class would make an excellent hospital ship, trading luxury for cutting edge medical equipment and bedspace, a troop transport for Starfleet marines supported by extensively refitting the secondary hull for barrack space and larger bays for shuttle/dropship deployment. Mass personnel transporters wouldn't be advisable in strategic or emergency situations due to transporter scrambler technology or other conditions that make transporter use hazardous.
One other use for the Chariot class would be as a 'mobile starbase' arriving at planets requiring extensive diplomatic resources for long periods while a more permanent structure is built.
Typical Federation Council hubris on display at Warp 8. Excellent job, as always.
Absolutely, and thank you :)
I absolutely love your fun videos! The only tiny point I kept thinking here is that I don't feel (in my head canon) that this unique design would have been abandoned so quickly. It is actually fairly unique for its time, especially as a pure diplomatic ship with a strongly recognizable silhouette. In my beta canon, I'd probably have it live on a bit longer due to its inherent functionality with non-humanoid species and its ability to be easily identified so as to not become a target of some species. Either way, NICE job and what a beautiful ship! Thank you.

LOL
One of my favorite classes of starship, for many years. Thanks for making this video. It is an amazing ship that deserves to be rendered in this fashion. Great job.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for stopping by!
I love this ship design. It is so different yet with so many familiar elements. Thanks for creating this story for her!
This has always been one of my favorite fan designs; it is as unique and innovative to the long-established Starfleet ship aesthetic as the original TOS Enterprise must have been to conventional sci-fi design of its time. I would gladly watch a new Trek series in which the new generation of Enterprise was a ship of this class.
Sadly, I know I'm very much alone among the majority of Trek ship nerds who hate this ship. And considering the history you've given it, I'm guessing you're one of them too ;)
Actually I LOVE the design, I simply allow my imagination to take me to a story that is logical given it's design!
This is the Malaise Era for starship design😁
LOL
1) As a member of that "vocal minority", I can say we were redeemed with the creation of the Sovereign class. LOL.
2) This ship reminds me Star Wars: The Clone Wars Satine Kryze's New Mandalorian luxury liner, the Coronet.
1) Agreed
2) Never seen Star Wars
Fun fact. The Chariot class predates the Mandalorian Luxury liner.
@@Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent By one year ...... depending on the source, and if one can trust said source. 😆
Heh, love that it is based on the Ambassador class design as an FU to the Federation Council.
Thank you ;)
Omg this needs to be canonised in lower decks. I'm thinking of how mariner gets demoted
LOL
I would hire TriA on the spot for any ST series!
Council: we want our own ship…
Starfleet: oh…. I see!!! Umm, nothing is impossible….We could look into it!!!
Council: Right, about that hesitation…you know that new ship you want approved????
Starfleet: yes!!!! Why???
Council: We can say no if we want, now think carefully about what you say next.
Starfleet: great idea!!!! Your own ship!!!! Your so smart!!!! If only we thought of it first!!!! Lets get to work!!!!
Council: Good answer.
This was great fun. I honestly had never seen this ship before, but what a hoot. Having been in the Army and done work with national and international governments during that time, I can see the mindset of high level officials wanting to feather their own nests at work here. So. Plausible. 🤣
Thank you, that actually means a LOT! :)
One of my favorite classes of starships. Your take was interesting. I always heard it was a tug vessel. I definitely like your narrative better. Nice work.
One of the most lovely ship, I fell in love with when I first laid eyes up the class.
It's a GREAT design :)
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios oh yeah. I bet she can handle they're own in an fight. Plus, it won't blow up like a certain science ship we know and love. :)
@@blindscience1701I remember seeing it online, and it was so unique but it took a while before it's aesthetic grew on me. To me she always looked more like a battleship given the silhouette, but definitely a lovely ship
I love the basic notion that these ships were equivalent to that of a Royal's mighty but overly-extravagant castle. I always consider alternative realities based on basic development decisions, and I could imagine one where this class brings about a Federation ruined by old ways of class divides. Imagine just how quickly they would have been defeated if they didn't let go of the luxuries of this period and returned to designs and technology focused on protecting it's ever-expanding territory; they wouldn't have survived the Dominion War.
Honestly in a replicator age there's a certain point past which more austerity really doesn't mean better performance or expense savings. You could as easily panel your corridors in convincing oak finish as in blandness. (Actually I always thought a ship as big as the Enterprise D mighta mixed up the color scheme and artwork a bit more, ...it's huge in there.)
To quote The Tubes: "She's a beauty," but the design to me has always made me think of a sword and shield. The cross-shaped neck and "fin" extending out with the the wide nacelles almost seems very sword-like while the saucer has seemed like it was both a melding of the Galaxy-class and Sovereign-class saucers or akin to the ovoid saucer of the fan-made Odyssey of the Allegiant-class.
Design: We have a sword on the frontier
TAS lore: The frontline flying embassy
I love the star ship 🚢
Personally I love it too :)
It makes perfect sense. Ambassadors and VIP's deserved their own luxurious class of ship to move about the galaxy. Even the Galaxy Class served as a good representation of Starfleet and the Federation. The Enterprise-D being a good all around ship...as both diplomatic and powerful. I had no idea of the Chariot Class u til this video...especially the fact that only 6 were ever made. Good models as always...and the story fits the time period.
Saw this class on Trekyards for the first time. Was so alien yet cool. Love it!
Made my own version for my GC3 game as armed utility vessel to replace the earlier classes when my Federation advances more in techs & weapons.
THE LOOOOOOVVVE BOOOAAAT!! Sorry. I'm sorry about that, I couldn't resist.
I thought the same thing
LOL Love it :)
@@donaven42 👍👍👍
That is one very fascinating design I can see where it gets its ambassador class lineage in the secondary hull. In a way it almost looks like a different version of a California class saucer section. Very well done model. I had seen it before but this makes it feel like it actually does belong in the fleet
Thank you Rick :)
I remember when I saw this pop up on the Trek Yards Facebook page years ago.
I, like many, didn't like it at first. But, it's design, and practically have grown on me.
The shape of the drive section is unusual, but not hideous. Some minor adjustments and this could have been a real winner. The saucer section is really great.
Agreed. If you remove the "fin" from the secondary section, this would make a really cool starship. Really, really like these nacelles. 😁
I actually really like this design.
It's a fantastic fan design!
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios Would love to see it come to STO.
I all ways look forward to your videos they are really good to listen to
Glad you like them! Thank you :)
IMAGINE the FOOD... "Yes please, I'd like Klingon Quail eggs....how many had to die for those?...Excellent!, I'll take a dozen"
Love the "wreck" areas in the captioned text. LOL
LOL That's all on UA-cam as it automatically generates them!
I really enjoy each and every one of these wonderful, brilliant, inspiring, insightful videos on various Trek ships & topics. I thoroughly enjoy the 25th Century Starfleet Spacedock One. She’s my personal favorite stardock, because I think she’s cool. The 32nd Century Spacedock, I’m still trying to wrap my head around. I do like the fact that she can move like a regular starship, but I prefer the 25th Century one instead
I would call it "The Emperor's new clothes" in starship form, but it sounds like the damn thing actually worked.
Weird design. Great Video. Can't wait for the next one.
Thanks!
Thank you very much for this nice Information Video
You are always so very welcome :)
Literally the personification of elegance and waste of resources for a government ship. It is one thing to parade around your territory in a military vessel. That's one thing. It's another when you specifically build a vessel specifically for luxury, part of your military branch and with government dime :P.
Still, the fact they are in mothball gives them a possible chance of redemption.
Chariot class: Starfleet's middle finger to the Federation Council
These Are Truly Enjoyable Even Tho Its Just Made Up. Keep it up good job
Thank you, Ill do my best :)
Makes me think a dimensional rift and some klingon ale got a galaxy and sharlin [sp] in the mood.....
😁
I have to say, crewing a potential warship based on essentially "hospitality skills" seems like a bad idea.
"I'm trying to sleep, why do those torpedo launchers keep making noise?!"
Reminds me of the Eisenberg class from Discovery or the Destiny Ascension from Mass Effect.
Lineage ;)
Star Trek needs more ships that are taller than they are long.
Not quite sure if I like the design or not. It's interesting to say the least but the story you put together definitely helps the design make sense. Awesome video as always 👍
Thank you, I try ;)
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios you got my approval. Not that it matters but you got it 🤣😂. You definitely have one of the best UA-cam channels for everything Star Trek. Keep up the great work. Be blessed and be well my friend 👍
It's a nice design. Unusual and different but nice.
Thank you! Cheers!
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios Same. Bottoms up.
Maybe an unknown Federation member species was in charge of the design aesthethic. That's my headcanon.
Maybe!
Crewed by (best/top) Starfleet people, easily identifiable, under armed/shielded for the time. Sounds like it was any foe's "destroy first" target.
The intelligent admirals would be on the old Miranda to the upper back providing escort duty... "Nothing special about this ship, just a cargo hauler."
on of the interesting fan designs
Indeed :)
I love your channel ! Thank you .
You're very welcome Ky :)
I think it would be cool if the bottom finn had a water bulge in it for like Xindi Aquatics or similar such species. Yes, it says it can accommodate them, but what, fill the room and hallway with water? They need swimming room!
The vertical galaxy classic
It sounds like a CRUSE SHIP in space
I have no words.......Great video and fantastic story as always. Ship design is unique I just cannot decide if the ship names should be after comedians or spoiled teens. Nerd approved.
Thank you very much! LOL
Well that is, umm, different as starship designs go. Just being tongue in cheek, but it should have been called the "Nemi" or "Sybarite" class. ;-)
When did Starfleet get into designing variants of Star Wars B-wings? All jokes aside, though, interesting story as always. 🙂
Looks like a space dragon.
This ship looks like it wants to drop bombs on imperial dreadnaughts.
It really needs a third impulse drive near the bottom of the fin.
THAT IS ONE " F'N UGLY " SHIP !!!!
U.S.S. Stumpy Duck, lol
I read somewhere that it was a tug. To tow in starships
Given it's strong diplomatic purpose, the Chariot Class could've been recommissioned as a Civilian Starship that provides Luxury Cruises throughout the best and safe parts of the Federation.
Is this a fan made ship? Iv seen the image before on Google.
Indeed it is!
Like the design. Since it shows, space has not atmosphere, no up and down.
Nice story, but I have a different one. I like that secondary hull shape and big hangars in saucer. My first thought was this is some kind of engeenering/mobile dock/reapir ship, and even combat rescue for disabled ships. Those dobul-warp naceles looks powerfull and can create big warp bubble, to tow ships with high warp speed. In lowers section of secondary hull, Chariot should have powerfull tractor beam emitters. Big hangars/cargo bays with industrial replicators, to do "field" repairs. And maybe starbase repair/constructions. In general, ship for those Federaition miracle workers ;)
Man, now i really wish they we could see a Trek where you have Starfleet ships, and then a "Federation" style ship. Really play with the idea that the Fleet is not the Feds and vice versa.
so basically the starfleet equivalent of babylon 5s earth force one.
Love the design... Was this a fan design?
Thanks for the links, I've been trying for years to get a mesh
E-gad! Do U fly it or throw it...lol. good thing it was based on the Ambassador class. Now the NCC 1701C isn't the ugliest. Many thanx.
Love this ship! Should be an Enterprise ! It is different and that is why I love it.
Interesting design, I'm not opposed to it as I think there can be other starhip designs in cooperation with other aliens but man... those impulse engines just are way too high! Should be mounted in the middle.
The design is, as it is :(
Is this a late April Fools Day entry?
LOL :P
I like it
It's a great design tbh ;) Very imaginative :)
Star Treks version of Slave 1 or B Wing
Interesting lore. Though I must say that, every time I've seen this design so far, its been a carrier vessel for Defiant class starships.
I still love your video, btw.
Well a) It's far to small for that and b) That really doesnt make much sense... But to each their own ;) It's all in good fun after all :)
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios They weren't carried internally, but "plugged in" on the back of the hull. Unfortunately, I can't find the diagram.
Still doesnt make much sense! :P
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios I don't disagree. It did look funny to have for the Chariot class to carry fully warp capable frigates.
Yes, especially since the class itself is only 3x larger then the Defiant class :P
Does look kind of ungainly but I suppose it's a way to give lots of passengers nice views and privacy without getting crazy with volume.
Decadence at it's finest!
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios As a scavenger and restorer of many things retro and unwanted over the decades, I think things don't have to be expensive to be tasteful and well-made, especially if you can replicate anything, presumably. :) I mean, a replicator probably doesn't care whether or not it's replicating masterpieces of Scandanavian design or Ikea particle board. :)
It was my understanding that the Chariot class was supposed to be a ship tender for a squadron of Defiant class warships, which is why it has a docking port for them on that keel that projects from the underside of the engineering hull. The idea is that you send one of these out with the Defiants to provide repair and resupply for the ships and more advanced medical and r&r facilities for their crews. That way you can keep your warships on station for longer periods. The Chariots are sort of a mini, mobile starbase.
Well you would be incorrect if thats what you thought! ;)
Atolm would be proud to see his design featured.
Who is Atolm? This starship class was designed by Chris Reyes and the 3D Model made by Alex3D...
That ship I UGLY ahahahahaha
Six ships of the class, rather small hun?
guess even the future needed decadence.
Anychance for space dock vid
The only good a ship this big and audacious would have been good for would have been a rescue mission like the Romulan one in parcard
And id bet all 6 were actually participating!
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios Then likely were demolished during the attack on Mars unless they were being housed at Earth Space Dock and being fitted for Romulan and Remen VIP's and higher members of Romulan society..
Space Uber..
It's not the best looking design but I'd say it's perfectly acceptable for its intended purpose. Guess the design just kinda irks me just like single nacelle and detached nacelle designs even tho I can appreciate the thinking behind and even necessity of said designs.
I'd like the design tbh I'm shocked your covering it
What? Why?
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios isn't well know i think trekyards are the only people before you to briefly cover it i mean the ss valiant has more info then the chariot its that unknown
I would debate the point , that chefs where not needed as replicators on many occasions are quoted as not having the right taste , or texture.
Hmmmm first off, why did you like your own comment? Second, That's a matter of opinion, rather than fact... IE The other day we had a lasagna party, I loved the taste, while my business partner hated it! You cant use personal opinions as proof! There has also been MANY times when people LOVED what was made in the replicator, so basically, you've got nothing to debate with lol
I hate the look of the The Chariot Class class... The bit that hangs from the bottom below the naycells makes it look bad... I think it would have looked allot more better if they had the hull extending to the rear like the rest of the Federation's ships that all are long... But I am guessing the odd shape is what makes it stand out so clearly as it is unlike the rest of the ships.
LOL well to that I say, to each their own ;)
Do a video on the buran I mean that starship.
Sorry what?
I think it’s funny how the Galaxy class gets dogged on for being a luxury cruiser, while this is literally just that in its design.
The difference is THIS IS a luxury liner, the Galaxy Class is not supposed to be! :P
The 6 star Hotel in space this is the second stupidest ship ever made behind the other one
To each their own!
I'm not feeling the design. Got to be that "appendage-like" bottom of the secondary hull. Rather like the keel on a boat - this is like a huge keel. Graphics and video - awesome job. .... Just as a Trekkie, I'm blah on the design.
I don't agree with the bottom
Well to each their own ;)
All you smarty people stop making video games and science fiction, get busy, and invent the FTL warp drive already !
Lord, it's hideous
LOL Too each their own LOL
You should stop having to say "a bit of Starfleet fun" and just say it's a bit of my genius, far superior to the crap CBS is pumping out. You'd be a huge part of my writing dream team if I was in charge.
That is one Ugly design!
Is that a tumor on the drive section or the remains of a moose's nose? I'm sorry, but That is just weird.
I'm assuming the designers took a lot of illegal drugs. Along with spending a month drinking any and every kind of hard alcohol before designing this ship.
This design makes the ships in Cosmo Warrior Zero look decent. Those are some ugly looking ships.
A realy creasy design.
Creasy?
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios I mean crazy.😉
