  • The Mazurka is considered Poland's quintessential national dance. It comes from the region of Mazovia near the capital Warsaw. It's the birthplace of Frederic Chopin, whose Mazurkas for piano helped him win international fame.

      What a composer does in a composition like this, is imitate the sound and rhythm of a folk song, but at the same time actually makes up a completely new melody, as if this music exists in traditional.

    I'm sure the dance is called Mazurek... ;-; I heard this for years not what this is called in the video. I might be right might be wrong. But it might 80% be what I said.
    You say mazurka when it's "the dance of Mazurek"
    Then you say mazurka. For example.
    "taniec mazurka."
    Yet when it's by itself you say Mazurek. So you should write Mazurek. Hope you know what I mean. Thank you for listening

    That last mazurka sounds like Chopin's Op. 33,#2. Is it really Chopin, did he just arrange it, or is it an arrangement of Chopin's original?

    • @alh6255
      @alh6255 7 місяців тому

      This is a folk dance and an original folk melody from Masovia (the region where Warsaw is located). But Chopin was strongly inspired by Polish mazurkas, kujawiaks, obereks, polonaises, and these are often intertwined.

      England's traditional dances are flourishing. There's several forms of Morris dance being practised around the country. Clog dancing is rarer, but still exists. The most prevalent form of traditional dances are the folk dances done at ceilidhs. You can find folk dance and music all o er the country.

      @Marzena The name Masurka originates from the Polish term "Mazurek" and is quite a common name of the folk dance in many languages. You can find an interesting article here: polishmusic.usc.edu/research/dances/mazur/

    • @marzena5931

      DW Euromaxx There isn’t such a thing as Mazurka among Polish dances. There is Mazur, yes. “Mazurka”, a term used by several composers, is a stylized artistic concept drawing on Polish culture, and not a real dance existing in Polish tradition. It encompasses a whole slew of musical ideas associated with Polish music - anything from Kujawiak to Oberek.
