"There's a lot of bitch in every woman, a lot in every man"

"When a man gives his opinion, he's a man. When a woman gives her opinion, she's a bitch"
-Bette Davis
The year this came out, my friend was holding a "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" party and he said, "Everyone will dress up like Priscilla!" And I had to remind him that Priscilla was actually the bus.
loveee
So you came in full on club kid realness as a bus. Fabulous.
Australian Info Dump! In the last scene their first costumes are all Australian native flowers, then their emus and the third costumes are Australian Frilled-Neck lizards 😊
Before they shot this movie Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce actually got up in drag and went out on Oxford Street to the gay bars in Sydney. Apparently all the local queens were sizing them up and they got so drunk that Hugo Weaving threw up in the cab.
Also last point, the rural town Broken Hill, that they first stop in is where they filmed most of the movie. Every year they have a big drag festival there called the ‘Broken-Heel’ festival.
Anyway it’s one of my favourite movies and it’s so wonderful.
You left out my favourite parts about their night out in drag! Guy Pearce became obsessed with drag because he could go out and not be recognised. So he became extremely obnoxious and nearly started fights with several other Queens! He was also extremely flamboyant and flirtatious and let everyone in the gay bars feel his abs. At one point, however, he forgot he was in drag and began to hit on a young woman! The director had to escort him away as the woman became very confused.
How Hugo & Guy behaved that night reflected how their characters acted when they were drunk in Broken Hill. All the way down to Guy helping Hugo onto a bed and Hugo tapping his finger on his chest as he was passed out and as Guy was starting a fight in the background lol.
Also, Terrence Stamp apparently forgot he was in drag and started hitting on women
Holy shit Andrew has ascended to a new level of Gay with those pants. He's now a Super Saiyan Gay. I tremble before his power. I love it.
Brendan Moss those pants were the first thing I saw... like DAMN!!!!
How dare u, its called super Gaiyan
There's such a thing as an ascendant Gaiyan?
Fun fact: I went to see the stage production in Melbourne a few months ago and in the program they said that the thong (flip flop) dress was a plan B. The original plan was a dress made of American Express gold cards but the company wouldn't give permission to use it in the film so they threw together the thong dress! The costume designer wore the gold card dress to the Oscars!
When you said 'Australian movies don't get enough credit' I had the dumbest smile on my face. It's nice to hear that Americans are also enjoying our movies.
Ok, I'm going to be your old gay for a moment. I went to a lot of "local bar" drag shows in the late 80's and early 90's and they almost always end with the hosting queen (and sometimes some of the others) snatching their wigs. It seemed to be a way of showing at the end of the show that they're still guys and if you were fooled, HA! Pre-Drag Race it was definitely a thing. Even on RPDR, you can notice that the first few seasons have quite a bit of wig snatching. It wasn't until Milan ran it into the ground that it became somewhat taboo and then Roxxxy destroyed it ever being a thing again with her double wig. :-)
Guy Pierce is the perfect example of how men are like wine... and excuse me WTF is this movie😲😲 and why I haven't seen it? I'm fixing that IMMEDIATELY!
Imagining David Bowie or Tim Curry in this movie is a whole rollercoaster
I’m a young gay and thank you for putting me onto this
That is absolutely terrifying, I literally just finished watching Priscilla on my phone on Netflix. Then the notification. You guys are gonna get me evicted one day for these SCREAMS.
You guys should do Kinky Boots! Also road tripping drag queens needs to be a genre
*very katya's mom's voice* it isn't ?
Agreed, that there is a need for an official road-tripping-drag-queens film genre -- and if there are more examples thereof than _The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert_ (1994) and _To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar_ (1995), I'd love to know about (and, of course, see) them, because, alas, a mere two movies do not a genre make.
The "on-fire dilophisauraus" is a frilled neck lizard ;)
The way you say emu is hilarious.
Love from Australia 😘
How about “Mount Uluru” 😭
Best way to call a frilled neck lizard
Andrew serves the LOOK, Avaryl serves the Knowlaaaaaje!
R S I was mesmerized by his pants every time he was on screen xD
Woodworking sounds amazing.I would watch this movie.
Tonka Babić see you in the line to buy the tickets 😉
more aussy movies like Muriel's Wedding
Ali Liv both in my weekly VCR viewing when in high school-survival, inspiration & life goals! Me & my best friend would rotate each movie multiple times a week!
Strictly Ballroom please and thank you!!!
all i wanna see is a mash-up of MAD MAX: FURY ROAD and PRISCILLA and see these amazing drag queens in these fierce gay war vehicles doing a lipsync across the Australian wasteland.
The title would be Mad Max:Drag Strip
I love that the crew hid in the bus while filming on the road :-D People was hiding in the tanning bed and under clothes.
A few months ago I was fortunate enough to see the Priscilla musical in Melbourne and they had replicas of all the outfits from the film. The whole production was really really good. It's also worth noting that as everyone was making their way out after it had ended, off in the distance in this massive crowd someone could be heard saying "Miss Vaaaaaanjie...".
Spudzilla5656 wait when was this ???!! how did i miss it omg
When I traveled to Australia, I did a special day trip to Kings Canyon so that I could stand on that exact spot and try to recreate that scene - it was a very long, hot and sweaty hike there, but I did my best to look fab!
The queen at the end of the film who lip syncs 'Save the Best for Last' is Tim Chappel who along with Lizzy Gardiner won both Oscar and Tony awards for the costumes ♥️🐜
They need to do a Priscilla Queen of the Desert-inspired runway for Drag Race next season.
I had been upset all week coz I was worried that you guys weren't going to upload anything on Thursday as there was no drag race episode but then this notification popped out and I audibly screamed "OH MY GOD I CAN'T BREATHE" at the top of my lungs
Fun Guy Pearce fact. As a Teen, he was the under 18 bodybuilding champion of Australia and though he's in his 50's people say his arms are basically the same as in this film
As an Aussie... in the final drag montage, they’re not dinosaurs, they’re frilled-neck lizards!!!
This brought me joy tonight. Guy Pierce and Michael Fassbender in a log cabin in the woods... yes! I could watch them both watch paint dry.
Yeah!!!!!!! You stayed true to drag Thursdays! What a treat!
I am soooooo excited you guys did this!!! When I deployed to Afghanistan my truck's name was Priscilla Queen of the Desert (:
Uluru was actually the first choice for this scene but it’s protected by the government so they weren’t allowed.
It's a sacred site for first Australians and climbing it is really disrespectful so I'm so glad the didn't.
I WANTED ALL OF GUY PIERECE"S OUTFITS
Love this movie, you and pride month.. love, hugs and positive vibes from Czech Republic.. I'm hammered and Guy Pierce can get it anytime
Kuba Sotornik hello fellow hammered Czech person
Hi! Hammered Czech people stand together! Love meeting another Czech viewer of MovieBitches!
My favorite part about watching this channel is seeing how many times you say "we'll talk about it"... I love you so much!
Whenever friends and family tell me they want to see Mamma Mia, I tell them to go watch this movie instead. :)
Definitely telling my sister that
Im new to the channel and I just wanted to say that you guys are fabulous! I would love a ticket to Fabulous Cunt Island!
Adrian Mateo: you need to binge watch. You will not be disappointed
^^^^^^^ yea i've watched all of their videos. sometimes i find one and watch it like 15 times during the week. they are amazing.
I don't always agree with you guys on everything, but the day you upload a Romy and Michele RetroReview will make my year. P.S. Lisa Kudrow should be the first female President of the USA... THAT IS ACTUALLY ELECTED 🙄 #iwannaSEEthat
Hugo weaving looks so much like Morgan McMichaels in and out of drag
Yaaas I know you saw my tweet ;). About time this homophobia ended and we got a Priscilla review on this channel. Love you guys!
YAS no drag race review but this does the job 💕
'First things first, Guy Pearce can GET IT'
I was on board with this review from the first sentence.
Just FYI: the dilophosaurus looks were actually based off of frilled-necked lizards, native to Australia.
The More You Know🌈⭐️
That's so weird that the Meryl Streep movie is called "A Cry In The Dark" in the US. Over here in Aussie it's called "Evil Angels". You have to watch "The Castle" and "Last Cab to Darwin".....amazing examples of Australian cinema and Michael Caton is the freaking best!!
you're in an exclusive group of 2 people that I actually listen to when they tell me to watch the movie first. Thank you for so much
you've been liking my comments recently and I have no idea why, it's not like I'm all that reasonable. But because of that I hope you'll see this, you're both too good for words and deserve 3000 times more followers
Cosi is another fabulous Australian film. A man working at a mental institution gets roped in by one of the patients to put on the opera Cosi Fan Tutti. Hysterical and heartwarming.
I JUST SAW THIS MOVIE FROM 12:30 TO 2:15 A.M. AND I LOVED FOR EVERY SECOND OF IT!!!!!! I fell in love with this film from appearance of Hugo Weaving and Terrence Stamp in the credits. AND THE COSTUMES!!!!! HOLY SHIT, THE COSTUMES!!!! Safe to say, my gag reflex got a powerful workout because of these costumes!!!!!! I had to pause every 10 mins to truly marvel at their glory!!! Totally deserves the Oscar!!!!
This movie is like dark dreamscape drag but still very grounded in Australian roots. It’s so extra and I love it! Y’all have very similar tastes in movies as me. It’s so nice to see movie reviewers with an appreciation for ridiculous excess, twisted comedy and just plain fun in films.
Pride month just keeps getting better. So many people are discovering Priscilla thanks to you guys. I'd love to see a Hedwig and the Angry Inch review but maybe it's too…sad…at times?
My boyfriend and I just broke up, so this was everything I needed. See y’all next week for drag race! 💖🌈
I'm so excited. It's in the other room on my bookshelf. As soon as your review is over I will retrieve it and along with my box wine and one of Oregon's best "edibles" I will retire to the media room/bedroom and I have no doubts I will enjoy it like never before! T.Y.M.B
Yay for showcasing Australian cinema! Priscilla is an absolute classic. You did the film total justice. Muriel’s Wedding was also released in the mid 90s and is just as entertaining and iconic. Thank you!
And I should’ve watched until the end before commenting because you mentioned Muriel’s Wedding... and My Brilliant Career. Bravo!
Double movie review for Mamma Mia 1 & 2 bc Colin Firth, Cher, ABBA, reading everyone's singing (oml the singing) , oh and more Colin Firth and Cher and ABBA
Loving you guys living for Aussie films! 😍
I’ve been wanting this review for so long IM SO HAPPY
Holy cow!! The movie theater in my neighborhood JUST had a special screening of Pricilla!!
Have you both seen The Crying Game? - I'd love to see a review of it!
Andrew in these shiny leggings! Love it
How are you guys not in the millions of subscribers, you absolutely are a review channel everyone should enjoy!
The scene on the bus where Patti Page's "I Don't Care If The Sun Don't Shine" is playing is my absolute favorite!!!
As an Australian, I love you guys too
p.s I've seen this movie countless times and saw the stage show of it for my birthday this year and ohhhh my god it was the best thing ever.
You guys uploading a review to one of my favourite movies made my day tbh
the first time I saw this movie I was around this time last year on an 11 hour flight (I remember because they had an LGBTQ+ section in the library because of pride month which I more or less just put on and let run) and the look on the face of the guy sitting next to me those few instances our eyes met was just plain priceless. That bewildered interest. That "welp, this sure is my first time seeing this kind of thing, but I completely lost interest in my own movie and am loving this, though I'm not entirely certain why" look.
Epic review!! Love this film sooo much... I'm excited to see it live in Sydney in a few weeks after my exams :P Would you want to review any other Oz films e.g. Muriel's Wedding, Strictly Ballroom?
Aaaaaah, one of my favorites! Bernadette is among the movie characters I most wish were real, and Terence Stamp did a beautiful job portraying her, though I'd also have accepted Bowie. Also, those are some mesmerizing pants, Andrew.
The drag queen in the end credits is the costume designer (Tim Chappel).
This movie makes me so proud to be Australian! 🇦🇺 🏳️🌈
And then I saw Andrew pants 😍
That AJ and the Queen bit actually aged well, depending on the point of view...
I watched this over the weekend in the hopes you guys reviewed it! 😍
I have been in a fit of joy this entire review. I was wondering when you'd review Priscilla! I'm Australian and I've grown up with this movie, seen it countless times. The stage play of it is touring Aus again too. I'll be watching this review over and over. And yes, you should come to Australia for Mardi Gras (Sydney Pride) it's the most extra thing imaginable! And absolutely do a retro review of Murials Wedding! ❤️ You both xo
Guy Pearce is laughably fit. He is comedically tone. I'm saying he somehow slides right past attractive into ridiculous. I'm saying I can't stop laughing at his ass and Hollywood has never known what to do with it.
Living for this. For all of this.
Thank you for doing an Australian movie justice from an Australian who grew up on this movie!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Have been waiting for this moment in time-- a retro-review of ''Priscilla''! You guys are the absolute best!
When you were talking about Michael Fassbender and Guy Pearce being in a movie together, I just realized that they have been in a movie together. Unfortunately that movie was Prometheus. 🙈🤣
Totally forgot he was in that movie! Well Guy Pearce's character gets hit with Fassbender's android head so some physical contact was made. How's your head? ....painful.
Thank you for doing this film, it's one of my favourites of all time. It made such a huge impression on a young closeted me when it was on TV years ago and it was emotional hearing your reflections on it! Thanks for your amazing channel!
As an Aussie myself, I am LIVING for your review of Priscilla! It is definitely a fab Aussie classic! Thanks to MB I will now refer to Frill Neck Lizards as #onfiredilophosaurus!!!! Love you guys!!
I've watched this movie countless times. Sooo fun seeing you reviewing it! It's a big gay classic for sure. I think it introduced me to drag. Been thirsting for Guy Pearce since the day I was born.
Fun Fact!!! Originally the Flip Flop dress was supposed to be made of AMEX card but Amex told them no, thus they regrouped and thought about making the costumes out of things you could get anywhere. When it was up for the Best Costumes, AMEX gave the costume designer enough gold cards to make a dress for herself to wear to the awards. The cards were actually all valid, working cards and expired the next day.
You guys should totally watch and review FX’s new series Pose. The pilot was fkn amazing
I haven’t even watched this review yet and it’s made my day
40:35 They are called frilled neck lizards. It's an aussie animal.
can we talk about what the costume designer wore to the oscars though!!!
But I'm a cheerleader?
Such a brilliant film! Every performance was amazing but for me Hugo Weaving really stole the show.
I’m so happy you guys reviewed this. Love it!! #FunTrivia: Did you know that the musical version wasn’t allowed to sing the ABBA songs because of copyright to MamaMia. So they changed ABBA to Madonna.
Sparkle pants are my new summer look!
Do Paris is burning
OMG, YES! One of my most favourite movies ever! Thank you for this magnificent treat.
Before I tune into the video...I just wanted to ask have you guys seen the new TV show Pose & will you be doing a review of it??? 😱 spoiler!!! I got my life & if you haven’t seen it you gotta tune in.
This is one of the best gay movies of all times.... I haven’t seen it in so long. ❤️ that you ❤️!! 🌈 rainbows oh my!!
it would be so fun to see your review of another Australian Classic "BABE" I watched recently and never realised how dark it is. But being Australian it handles it just right.
When I saw the thumbnail I almost shit myself
Oh I'm so happy you made this, I was afraid there wouldn't be anything this week. I'm a scoutleader every thursday evening and When I get home your reviews are usually up, so I get dinner Ready, sit Down to relax and watch it while eating. It's almost a little thursday ritual for me :3
Nice to hear you like 'I've Never Been to Me'. That song has spoken to me since I first heard it in the 1980s, though I never understood what it was saying. That is, I never understood it until watching Priscilla not too long after transitioning. Then I realized that until then for all my life I had never "been to me", and it is fitting that it was two drag queens and an aging trans woman like myself who helped me to finally understand that I had finally arrived at me. 😀
"Michael Fassbender and Guy Pearce in the woods renovating a house"...So basically the Money Pit but with Gay Sex; LOVE IT!
Please retro review The Money Pit; I really want Andrew's Fix it staring Guy Pearce and Michael Fassbender.
I speak on behalf of all Australian's to say, we love you too
This may be a day late and a dollar short, but Strictly Ballroom is a delight if your not familiar! Ausies have so many diamonds in the rough!!
*you're :)
I remember the first time I saw this movie and I loved it. It's just a classic and it's so Aussie it hurts (in a good way, of course). Kudos for doing this review!
I think it’s fair to establish that with the finale performance montage, it was all performed on the premier night, but it was a compilation of the three shows they performed on that single night. Cause I’m the beginning of the film, Mitzi establishes that it’s two to three shows a night, so this is what she meant.
TL;DR: the finale performance at the casino is a montage of the three premier performances that happened on opening night.
Also about the glitter and the cake:
I think the glitter is meant to be a motif that being in Drag is a magical mystical thing for Hugo weaving to be in. Where this glitter comes from? Probably came off his costumes or fell from the ceiling or suitcases; just coincidence.
And the cake; you can buy pre-made cakes from the shops; it’s probably where they got it.
You are forgiven the accents because of the blue tights! My top ten of movies , been waiting for you two to review . so glad you liked it!
so can we just agree that the entire casts of S10 and AS3 are homophobic for nobody doing 1. the flower afro for the flower runway on AS3, 2. the ponytail pom poms for the wigs on wigs runway on AS3, or 3. the emu headdresses for the feather runway on S10.......
i mean... when you tell me that I can see it and appreciate it, but it didn't come across at all on the show
100% here for your assessment of Australian film. Australian comedy telly is the same! Get into it if you haven't already. :)
Did you all see the stage show when it came to town a couple years ago. I heard it was a hoot.
Also how is it Guy Pearce has not aged.
"a cock, in a frock on a rock" has to be one of the best movie lines 😂
